Mind for a summary of differences from Xda Live and Vanilla?

This new updating also has no the attitude to Xda Live or Vanilla. Therefore to compare mine Rom with XdaLive it is incorrect.

p.s. I at all did not establish to myself XDA-Live and Vanilla. Therefore I can not compare. TyTN has appeared at me only yesterday :D
p.s.2 i made this rom with native HTC soft and customization. No extended soft was installed

I am merely asking of the differences. I did not say that yours is based on Xda Live. It's like I'm asking, what's different in a Lamborghini Gallardo and a Ferrari Enzo. You're saying you can't compare them because they're not the same brand. So what's different in the Xda Live and your ROM?

Only thing newer is the Rom version...but what exactly is different i'm not understanding. "this new updating also has no the attitude to xda live or vanilla..." WHAT!?!?

Lvsw, thank you very much for this ROM. The Dialer screens has "Video Call". Is that
a) the dialer from WM5, or
b) the new WM 6 dialer (like XDA Live and Vanilla have it)?

Thanks again! :-)

Replace with this you will get back the dialer skin but is still WM5 dialer skin with smart dialing.

schriss,

My WM5 Cingular 8525 has always scrambled video with Core Player when attempting to use the ATI driver. I use DirectX and it doesn't slew much at all. One of the tricks to get back to Kansas, as it were, is to 'open with' Core Player any non-video media file you have (like an MP3). Then you can set it to DirectX or whatever. I will get adventurous again after WM6 is installed (I am timid here to be sure as a new owner).

everyone else,

I will seed the 4 piece torrent overnight...

Not sure if anyone cares but here's my 2 pence worth:

I had XDA-Live + PDF version installed before:

- This version - just a certain something seems slightly more stable. Is this still a beta ROM? I don't know.

- Obviously it's missing all the work the fantastic team have done with XDA-Live, however most of it you can download - Except Remote Desktop - it seems to be missing. If anyone knows better, please let me know however in the post above I have attached a cab that should work.

- Office shortcuts not in the start menu but you can easily move this - not a problem as such.

-I've installed Tom Tom Navigator 6.100 and works fine.

-HTC 'green' theme is included - looks the same as it did with the WM5 roms - quite like the look actually. This is installed via ext rom - you can see the old one before it installs itself.

- The same keypad/call history skins missing problem exists here too.

- video calling appears to be ok - haven't tested (lack of 3G coverage in my house) but the app kicks in fine and I can see myself.

-voice dialing is in there too (can't remember if the icon was in XDA-Live or not).

-Coreplayer still throws a wobble unless i set video driver to GDI.

- I've fully loaded my up with software with only 5mb storage space free and it's starting to run pretty slow (in comparison to a fresh install) - still quicker than WM5 though.

- I'm in the UK so I can't test PTT etc..we don't get that stuff.

As reported by others I must also say that the ROM feels solid. Can't mention anything i particular, perhaps it is the good old green theme that gets to you ;)

I can confirm that video calling works.

I tested the RDP cab, and it works flawlessly; I was able to TS my server without any issue.

This roms run quite well, but it as most of the "shortcomings" of the XDA: still no "turn wifi off" in connection bubble and no integrated sip client.

I reseted my device in order to cancel the customisation and I still have a very little issue; I miss the shortcut of the voice recognition in "setting". Is there a way for me to manualy setup it?

Thank you

I never unlocked my ext rom so I don't know how it will behave but yes it autoruns like one from a provider does through the config.

Voice Speed Dial is Cyberon

Glad to hear the Remote Desktop cab i posted works good. Thanks for the toggle vibrate fix! much appreciated.

I unlocked my ext rom and I noticed it was empty. The customisation may be stored in the ROM itself.

I also found the solution for the missing shortcut for voice dialer settings. Just add a shortcut to \windows\cdvsettin.exe in \windows\start menu\settings

THIS ROM BRICKED MY PHONE!!!

Hahahaha...nah, I am just being an @ss. Playing on the fear of the noobs.

Anyway, the ROM in fact seems a little more stable. It runs well. I am currently tethering through it (3G) and have no problems. I have installed a few apps here and there. Nothing over the top just Gmaps, Bandswitch, and I still have some most of my apps on my Storage Card so I have tested a number of them and they all work without problems.

Also I took the liberty of installing Windows Live Messenger and that works without any problems.

I do like the green Vista-ish theme and I like the speed in which it works. I am going to install a few more apps but I really have resolved myself to keep the ROM clean, at least until XDA .30 comes out.

Or something else pics my curiosity. However, this is a great ROM. Really good work was done and it does have a more finished feel than Vanilla.

If you know how to upgrade and feel like trying a very polished, albeit, no frills ROM, then I recommend it.

Kudos still to kyper (I know I've spelt that wrong somehow... ;-) but this is a better version of the OS.

First thing that I like more is the untouched boot screen ;-) Call me awkward (and I know I am cos the screen is only on for a few seconds :) but I prefer it without the XDA Live branding on the startup - don't know why but things like that irritate me :)

Second, the available memory after the build is almost double what it was with 0.21 for me....

C) I like the green WM today file :)

If kyper (sorry....) uses this one to do his work on (and leaves the boot screen alone ;) I'll stick it on, otherwise, I'm staying with this one for a while :)

I'm expecting 0.3 anytime though :)
Cheers guys!

Hi,

Did I get it right ? If I uprgade to this new ROM, do I have to re-install everything again ? Just upgraded yesterday to XDA Live -version and spent all day installing and fine tuning...

I did a spb restore from the xda live .20 rom to the lvsw rom and evetything intalled and worked fine except for a traymanager.exe error that occurred after every soft reset. I'm sure i could've solved that problem, but i just didnt have patience at the time. Plus i had to remove some shortcuts from startup and program folder becuz they were not emedded into this rom. Otherwise im sure it wouldn't conflict too much!

The MS Office folder is there if you remove it from the drop down list on the start menu from the Today screen, that is normal behavior as the Games folder does this in other WM setups. Settings...Menus... uncheck it the box.

This is a very nice rom, but i stuck with xda live, simply becuz it wasnt that much of a drastic change for me to reinstall and configure when i have a simple restore under xda live. I like the the xda screen and customizations the same as lvsw. I hope kypher continues to stay true to his formula. I like to have a variety of roms to choose from!

A few observations:

ROM Version is slightly Newer but the OS Version is EXACTLY the same as WMXL Base before it was edited to allow BB Connect & GoodLink/Mail to work.

I don't see a point in changing the Base of WMXL to this Rom but I will disassemble and compare this Rom.

Next version fo WMXL will be a cleaner OS than v0.20 but the WMXL Splash will remain as it is not my personal branding but rather tipping my hat to XDA-Developers Community.

It is good to see a variety of WM6 Roms, let's not start knocking anyone's efforts in any of the WM6 Roms. They each have their pluses and minuses.

The Moderators are working on getting us a WM6 Forum so that we can seperate WM5 Development from WM6 Development.

The beiges problem i find with XDA 0.20.1 and Vanilla. Is stability. And with 0.20.1 version lack of ram if i lunch big game or application it eating all ram and lot's of times crashes. Couple days i wasn't running anything but one game and it was fine and than i open system manager be for i did that i closed game and cleared ram form programs and i open SManager and it started all kind of things so i had to reset phone. And in past couple days i had to do that alt.

If anyone is worried, download the entire file and then nbhextarct it to be sure you get the OS only, and then nbgen it back to a RUU, this is not rocket science now that the tools are all on the sticky pages.

Dear lvsw,

this is the Config.txt from your great ROM:

LOCK:Enabled
EXEC:\Windows\cusTSK.exe \Windows\HTC_Default.tsk
EXEC:\Windows\SetHSDPA.exe /Enable
CAB: \Windows\CommManagerRes_20070310.cab
CAB: \Windows\MMS35_OMA_CP_PPC_060717.cab

Some of the listed files are not in your ROM. Did you remove them? Are they not needed? Or were they missing already when you got the ROM?

My few notes

- Comm Manager skin is blue (didn't change from ROM version 2.05 and I really hate that color)

- Dialer skin is black (I wonder how this happened)

- On Text/MMS Messaging when using the phone landscape
the left soft menu button is "Delete" where it used to be "New" This really bugs me, since now you have to klick right menu and then enter/ok to start typing a new message.

- It's faster than the previous 2.05 (especially when you explore the \Windows -folder).

- When connecting to ActiveSync, Outlook gives Unspecified error (a small window, not sync error).

- Has 3G icon instead of U

- You have to have ActiveSync 4.5

- When you have security password enabled and connect the phone to active sync, it will say phone is locked, even it isn't. Only way to get rid of this message is to save the security password on the computer.

- Spb Backup 1.5.5 fails to create a complete backup
(Can't unlock file \Windows\compimeh.0409.dat)

Goodlink client (4.8 in my case) won't install on WM6. It just quit saying that it's not compatibile with my device. You can in anycase avoid the problem like I did:
- with WM5 use the internal backup of goodlink to store everything on an SD
- upgrade to WM6 and use the exe GLRestore on your SD Card to restore Goodlink
- let the restore finish and resync with GL server and you'r done :)

I'm using since yesterday and it's definitevely much more quick and responsive with WM6 than with WM5 :)

LVSW THANK YOU SO MUCH!! with WM6 my tytn doesn't even look like the same device!! no freeze and speed and responsiveness of the device is awesome! can anybody confirm what's the best version of TomTom to use with it?

In tried to update (OS only version).

I copied SSPL-HERM.exe to my device and run it.

Standart bootloader prompt appeared on screen, ended with ".ds"

I reattached usb cable -> message USB device unknown, therefor no update (Update ended with error)

Any idea?

Same prob. I just soft reset the phone, then ran the update while connected in activesync. worked fine.

2. Does the battery work a long time till the device turns off?

Dunno about the problems with the other version, but in this one Spb Backup 1.4.1 and 1.5.5 gives error:

That's due to the version thing.
If LVSW could rename version to 5.1.195 LVSW should be 'fixed'.

As a lazy person I tried it also. Didn't work. Several error messages, and most of the applications didn't work. Now upgrading again the ROM and after that manual installation work.

So: NOT recommeded to use restore programs !!

Helinet

p.s. Otherwise great ROM ! Thanx !

Hi, your message caught my eye. You write "the app kicks in AND I CAN SEE MYSELF". Does this mean you should be able to see yourself BEFORE a videocall is established? As I have no friends with 3g phones (sigh) I cannot test the video during an actual call. However, when I try to establish a call, I was sort of expecting to see myself anyway --- till you get the message that the call could not be established etc etc. But during the "dialling" process, the vid screen remains black.

How do you make the app "kick in" without calling someone?

-Wouter

Not sure if anyone cares but here's my 2 pence worth:

- video calling appears to be ok - haven't tested (lack of 3G coverage in my house) but the app kicks in fine and I can see myself.

-voice dialing is in there too (can't remember if the icon was in XDA-Live or .

HI all, and thanks for the effor in this machine.

One question about sooft my actual ROM install after hard reset.

There are a list of files installas from \windows and for CAB from extended memory. From \Windows folder, there are files in config.txt with XML extensions. The question is if i can apply this files manually after upgrade to this ROM.
Perhaps i can move to extended and modify config.txt to get all installing from extended.

Do you recommend the OS only or Full for me. I like conserv the CAB and config from Orange in Spain. I think dosn't need all the content from \windows or extended, but i'm not sure. Anyone can clatify?

Thanks for all your work to make better Hermes.

When I want to test this, I just video-dial my own landline number, and then just don't pick up the phone. Until I hang up (or the network decides to abort the call attempt), I can see myself.

I recommend allowing your device to run Config.txt after a hard reset (i.e., don't so a soft reset). The XMLs and .cabs that get executed there do not overwrite anything from your Orange settings, and you get back the old WM5 dialer with Video Call capability as well as a green skin for the Comm Manager (but the PIN entry dialog will become grey/pink :-( )

Also, the Config.txt in this ROM does not run anything from the Extended ROM, so I recommend you go with the OS only version.

You can run the .cabs from the Extended ROM later (have to make it visible before, obviously), but I don't yet know what they do. I will try to analyse that.

SPB Backup not working i.e. when making the backup is completed, the software comes up with a message that several issues occurred. When you click on the info screen to see what issues, SPB Backup says:Unable to read from file "\Windows\compimeh.dat".
However, the progress bar for backup completion seems to be at 100%.
Fix: Edit this string:HKLM\SOFTWARE\Spb Software House\Spb Backup\SkipErrFiles
Add new string:
Name 6
Value: %Windows%\compimeh.dat
You add a new string for all the errors putting the run in exact way.

Yes. Sort of. I just cooked a ROM with the files and registry settings I found in the .cab of GermanInput.zip from this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279158). Works perfectly and has the advantage of not having to have both the German and the English files in the ROM - the .lex and autocorrect.409.txt are a bit heavy. Actually, the German autocorrect contains a lot of nonsense, so I reduced it to some 20 lines with the most common typos I tend to make. :-)

Yes: just do a soft reset immediately after a hard reset, so that the stuff in Config.txt (among other things, this is the WM5 dialer and the Comm Manager skin) does not get installed. But be warned: I have no idea what other, maybe important, things won't get installed as well.

Sometimes my smses don't come through and I can't send. If the phone is in standby mode the display will come on but no sms comes through and the person sending gets a delivery report and if I try send then the messages are just stored in the Outbox

'Push Email' (as offered by Exchange 2003/2007) doesn't work that way... when an email is available, it is 'pushed' onto your Phone/PDA just like a text message... so there isn't any X' mins polling times! you just select the schedule to 'as item arrives'.

Will there be a release without the HTC themes and changes? Like an "original ROM"? I realy like the colors that comes default with WM6, so I don't see why no one have released a clean room. The LVSW Edition is very clean, but it should also be available in a version without the HTC customization.

P.S. Are you planning on making a custom WM6 Classic (lvsw) combo with 1.34 (radio) as well (just curious)?

P.S.S. I apologize for asking a stupid question, but I just wanted to confirm that I can update my 8525 to any of LVSW's ROMs w/o my device being SIM and/or SuperCID unlocked, correct?

I like radio 1.34 best for Cingular in the DC area.

Yes WM6 requires activesync 4.5. not 4.2

I am uploading now the LSVW WM6 Themed w/Radio 1.34 and SPL 1.10.Oli

The only reason I am putting the Oli SPL in there is to force it on people. it will save a lot of headache later on if you have the SPL 1.10.Oli. The radio 1.34 is being combined since I get many PM asking for an OS with Radio so I do it asap to cut down on PM.

Here it is: LSVW WM6 Themed w/Radio 1.34 and SPL 1.10.Oli (http://rapidshare.com/files/20753396/WM6_Themed__LVSW_Radio_1.34.00.10_SPL_1.10.Oli.exe )

Can I use SPL-1.10.Oli on SPL-1.09 and does it mean I do not have to SuperCID my device ?

Blackberry connect v 2.1.2.54 is working on this rom.

I just upgraded my TyTn to LVSW. Looks great and seems a bit faster as well.

Unfortunately Blackberry connect is not working for me. I tried versions 2.1.2.52 and 2.1.2.54. It says network available and tries to connect, but ends up in status "not connected". How did you get it to work?

Thank you for your help!

Read the Hard SSPL thread, stay on topic, this is for LVSW in this thread. How will others learn and/or not get confused.

This can be done using the windows live. Which will add a live account.
A Search on the forum will find the cab.
