I need assistance. All of a sudden I can not sync with AS 4.5 because the phone is not visible to the computer. I go to My Computer, click Mobile Phone and nothing shows.
I've had this a couple of times now too (I suspect its AS 4.5). For me I have to do the following:

* unplug the phone
* make sure active sync is not running on the phone. If it is kill it
* Go to Start > Programs (don't do anything else yet)
* Plug in the phone
* When you hear the sound that the computer detected teh phone, tap on the ActiveSyn icon on the phone.
* If they connect, you are fine (this has worked a couple of times but not always.

If that doesn't work:
* unplug the phone
* reboot the pc (wait for it to finish)
* soft reset the phone
* plug your phone into the USB and it should sync up.

I tried this ROM on my Cingular 8125, and like some of the other "newer" AKU ROMs, it worked wonderfully for me, except for the phone problems.

First, I had the 2.25 radio installed since that was the default from the stock T-Mobile ROM. That failed to ring when someone would call (I've gotten to testing this now with new ROMs by calling myself from a landline). So I went back to 2.19, and that seemed to work, but then a later test showed it wasn't working either. :(

So back to the Faria AKU 3.3 for now until the radio stack issues can be completely worked out.

Faria, if there is some way I can test for you when new radio stack is created, I'd be more than happy to try it.

Too bad, too, as I was really enjoying the WM6 experience on the device. Wicked fast, too!

Regardless, great work, Faria!

If you check the first post of the XPlore rom, X-Plore has the Voice Command cabs (UK included). I've been tempted to try that one myself just to hear the sexy british female voice :o

Mfrazzz - none of that worked. Yet, I was able to fix the problem. Some how the connect to all pc's with usb was not checked. Who knows how?

Thanks for all the assistance.

Now - has anyone been successful in connecting to AS 4.5 through bluetooth? No matter what I do the phone says that there is not a pc using AS available even when there is.

I think the sound quality is exelent with my JABRA BT620's now. And no pauses (at last).
I also have to say that to get my JABRA BT620's faria suggested I try different bitpool values. And I didn't try 0x1e with the WM6 basic registry settings.
So this might have worked for me I guess.
I just put all of the settings in the WM6 registry that were in his 3.3.0.0 ROM.

After I changed to your reg recommendations (except jointstereo and bitpool), I have been running TCPMP and Dream Theater never sounded better on my Wizard. Nice rich bass (Thanks to TCPMP) and minimal skips(Thanks to cduncan).

I will keep playing with BitPool settings, right now I am running farias default 60.

Thanks Again, my Jabra BT8010 is sounding great.

AS 4.5 over BT working fine here. I'm using an Actiontec adapter (older version). Make sure in AS you specify the correct serial port to use; my BT is over COM 5.

According to your signature, you are running the 2.25 Radio (GSM) that I'm guessing came with the Tmobile rom??? If so, downgrade to the 2.19 radio and see if that helps (You can find it on the ftp site here, or its also on this link: http://rapidshare.com/users/IW25NT). The 2.19 radio is believed by many to work better with the current WM6 ROMs we have, but the downside is that sometimes acquisition of signal is slower, and it doesn't do as well in "fringe" areas at holding a signal. But less dropped / missed calls and I've never had an issue with it where i had to reset to flight mode and back (I've seen that with 2.61 radio on WM6 though).

I have a bit of a problem with this ROM. Sometimes my phone only vibrates, without ringing, and sometimes it doesn't even record a missed call...
I have already tried 2.19 and 2.61 Radio ROMs, and the same thing happens with both.
Any ideas?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299470

yeah, i have the UK version already. the problem is that Faria's Voice Command is embedded in the ROM and it is v1.6. The latest UK version is 1.5 and thus cannot be installed over it by default.

I've tried removing references to Voice Command in the reg, and 1.5 installed, but when launched, VC immediately quits with an error.

I guess X-Plore has the right idea to not include it at all in the ROM and let users decide which version they want to use... Faria... I'm not complaining, just would like to hear my preferred language using your ROM.

Yes it will work, but you have to read and learn. There are excellent posts to help you out so you don't brick your phone. You need to start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613

Make sure you read and understand all of that before starting and continuing on. It will point you to other articles along the way. You have to do everything step by step and don't skip anything (even if you think you know better). Shortcuts could kill your phone (or make you start all over). When you finish the process, your phone will be CID Unlocked and have an IPL / SPL of 2.xx. Then (AND ONLY THEN) you can look at moving to WM6 and flashing this (or really whatever custom rom you want).

Good luck! Let us know how it goes (but if you have problems, please post in the appropriate thread).

I've been using Faria's ROM for a couple of weeks now and I have two issues I've not seen anyone post:

1. The invite attendees function does not work correctly. I can send the email, but the appointment date is incorrect. When it arrives at the other end, the date and time of the appointment are somehow changed to the time when the invitation is opened. If I send the meeting as an attachment via MMS the appointment shows correctly. What gives? Is this ROM specific, or a WM6 to Outlook 2003 issue? (Never happened with WM5.) Is there a fix for this? (Btw, is there a way to send calendar and contact files from their native apps via email rather that MMS in WM6?

2. I hear an annoying jingle whenever I make a phone call just as the phone is making connection, but I cannot locate where to turn this off. Does anyone know how to do this? Is this an issue with this particular ROM?

Thanks for any suggestions.

AS 4.5 over BT working fine here. I'm using an Actiontec adapter (older version). Make sure in AS you specify the correct serial port to use; my BT is over COM 5.

hmmm - Everytime I try to connect via BT with AS4.5 I get the following error message:

Cannot find an existing Bluetooth partnership with a PC that supports ActiveSync. Would you like to set up a partnership now?

Once I agree it allows me to search for the computer, find it, pair with it, agree to use AS as a service but AS will not connect even after it says connecting.

Furthermore the only way I can get them to communicate is by refreshing my bluetooth dongle through bluetooth devices on the phone. The crazy part is it won't let me use AS as a service once I do this.

I'm so confused and irritated. If anyone can help please do.

I am using a MSI Star Key for the bluetooth dongle. Also, it does work when I want to use the pc as my headset, just not for AS.

Make sure you are allowing an ActiveSync session from the PC side. Go to connections in ActiveSync on your PC and make sure the appropriate box is checked and the correct COM port is chosen.

You could always simply hard reset (will loose all data though...) I seem to remember that when using notfication utilities , if you aren't careful, it will delete some AS entries. IN that case, I only know of a hard reset as a soluition.

don't do a hard reset. recovery is possible. do a search here and on howard forums. a fix does exist that replaces the Activesync entries in notifications queue you inadvertently deleted. at least it works on wm5. give it a try and save yourself some work.

Just a quick follow up. I'm using Faria's WM6 (great job btw), and I was getting ready to implement the registry changes outlined by cduncan1 to see if the quality of my Jabra 8010 stereo headsets would improve any, and i noticed that my registry looked a bit wierd in that it had A2DP and AD2P. I did some poking around, and the registry entries were spread between both keys. Here's they way my registry was laid out:

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/A2DP/
Devices (don't think there's a need to go into those...)
Settings
UseJointStereo = 0x0 (0)

HKLM/Software/Microsoft/Bluetooth/AD2P/
Settings
BitPool = 0x3C (60)

I'm not the expert that Faria is by any means, but shouldn't both of these be under the A2DP Key?

Disregard the above. I just saw a post by treo...not that mentioned the same thing. Guess I should have read a bit more before posting 8)

p.s. If anyone else has the Jabra 8010 headsets, I would be interested in knowing if you experience any wierd behavior when using the headset with the 8125 (or other device). Mine keep defaulting back to a "music" mode connection to the 8125, even if I have deselected "Wireless Stereo" in the bluetooth profile. This even happens if I *never* select Wireless Stereo. This happens on any rom with A2DP. It might have to do with Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 being installed also, but I haven't had time to verify that. If it is, I suspect it's because VC is acting like the BTAUDIO program so that it can redirect it's voice prompts over bluetooth, and that this leave the headset in a funky state.

Thanks

Dave

I guess I was not as clear in my origonal post but I too have the AD2P registry entry, which I disregarded and left untouched. Though on hind sight it looks like a prime candidate for problems. How does you setup behave, if you just change the registry name from AD2P to A2DP ?

Please correct me if I am wrong....
I believe AD2P settings arent used by the OS. Its probably just a typo mistake introduced. Shouldnt cause any problems on its own.
Better to just copy that BitPool setting under A2DP key.

Since I dont have the headset with me right now, I cannot confirm your findings. I also have the Jabra 8010.
But, any particular reason you want to deselect Wireless Stereo? Or is it just to NOT divert music to the headset when the "mini-me" isnt connected?

There is also a button on the headset itself to turn music divert on-off.

Thanks again for the rom faria. There is the issue with TodayAgenda plugin. This is the first time I've seen the date on the plugin header. I can't seem to remove it. Under TodayAgenda plugin options, if I uncheck the Show plug-in header box, the date dissapear and also along with its icon on the right. There only thing left is the "No upcoming appointments/tasks" without the icon on the left.

I've already got the date/time today plugin loaded. I don't need to have another date/time display, it looks silly.

I've noticed something new in WM6 is the voice command. What is the special key to press to activate it?

And also, where do I put my custom alarm mp3?

Sorry, I've managed to solve the TodayAgenda plugin issue. All you need to do is uncheck "Show plug-in header" under General tab and check "Indent content" under Layout tab. The indent will bring back the icon on the left. Cheers.

I've got voice command to work. Its pretty neat. "play music" -> "What music do you want, album...." "Whats the time?" " The time is...." very nice.

I guess I was not as clear in my origonal post but I too have the AD2P registry entry, which I disregarded and left untouched. Though on hind sight it looks like a prime candidate for problems. How does you setup behave, if you just change the registry name from AD2P to A2DP ?

Thanks

Chris Duncan

Chris,

Based on what I'm seeing, the BitPool entry won't work unless it's under the A2DP/Settings key. Otherwise, it just uses whatever the builtin default is. I copied everything that was under the AD2P key to the A2DP key, and after I did that, changes to the bitpool entry definitely made an impact. By reducing the setting down to 45 (decimal), I completely eliminated the pauses.

I also noticed that in your registry listing that you set the Capabilities entry to something other than what was in my registry. Do you know what this entry controls, as I'm not sure what exactly it changes.

Sids911,

I guess I left out some vital info 8). What appears to be happening is that the connection that appears to be left open just sucks the battery life out of the headset and the phone. I'm a light user, and typically I can let the phone go 2-3 days without recharging the phone or other headsets I've got.

I've attached a picture (I hope) of the Jabra showing what I'm talking about , and I've highlighted the icons I'm talking about. When the icon on the left is on, I think that's when it's leaving a connection open between the phone/headset, and this is what's draining the power. The icon on the right is on when you're playing music. I've noticed that it also comes on after using MS Voice Command. I think this is because it's "playing" the voice prompts via the headset as music. I can press a button to turn off the music connection (the one on the right), but there's no button/sequence to reset the connection that's tied to the icon on the left.

I hope this makes sense..it's kinda confusing when I try to describe it. I haven't tried pairing the 8010 with any other phones that are capable of streaming music, so I don't know if this is limited to the 8125 or if it happens with other phones.

can't seam to find an extras folder in the my docs folder any ideas? also i can't ream to change the ringtone from the standard ring which is quite annoying

Right found a work around for the mobile ring tone change, download this:

http://www.download.com/Free-Mp3-Wma-Converter/3000-2140_4-10442362.html It's freeware, convert your mp3 to a wma saving it as Ring-WindowsMobile .wma (the space needs to be there)

Connect your windows mobile device to your pc, browse to \windows\rings\ and copy the file Ring-WindowsMobile .wma notice the space in between the file name and extension it's meant to be there.

now copy the file you just created to your mobile device \windows\rings\ and also \windows\ it will ask you to overwrite say yes because you have created that backup i told you to do haven't you.

All done, sit back and be happy at the new sound your phone makes when it rings.

I have one question does anybody know what the registry key is to switch the phone from ring to ring and vibrate?

Cheers

Paul

p.s if this has been covered before sorry i have scanned as many pages as i can but totaling 100+ pages it's along read, also if someone has a better way please let me know.

Just save your new ringtones in \My Documents\My Ringtones\ and then go to 'Settings>Phone' and change it to your new ringtone.

Everything works great for me except for a minor bluetooth problem. When I listening to music via WMP and receive a call, the music turns off, but no ring tone is played. When I receive a text, mms, email, the notification sound is played, but the music stays at the same volume. Using WM5, the music would turn down to play the ringtone or notification sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So, I followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613 to a t. Downgraded, ran the unlocker. Got a different but the SPL stayed the same. The guide said to reinstall the older rom again. I did. Then upgraded. Then tried to run this and it gave me the dreaded 99% because I'm not CID unlocked error. Was it wrong for me to run the older rom again after having attempted to CID unlock even though the guide said to? (Since as others say that if you go back to the older rom after you screw up with one of the new ones, you have to CID unlock all over again.) If I am reading you post correctly, then you missed 1 VERY CRITICAL step. After flashing the 1.05 ROM, then CID/SIM Unlocking, then flashing the 1.05 ROM again, you need to load either the Cingular 2.25 or T-Mobile 2.26 ROM. (See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435 for a T-Mobile download link.)

ONLY AFTER you flash either the Cingular or T-Mobile ROM, and your IPL/SPL are 2.xx, should you attempt an upgrade to Windows Mobile 6. This is because Faria's rom (and all other WM6 ROMs to my knowledge) does not include a bootloader upgrade. Windows Mobile 6 will not boot with an IPL/SPL under 2.xx.

NOTE: My post is a Reader's Digest version of something that cannot be properly abbreviated. Check out the link I posted, and follow every step to the "T". As long as your phone is a G3 model (the link tells you how to determine that), the process outlined will work. Hope this helps.

Final Note: I know that this is not the proper area for CID Unlocking question / answers, and I apologize for adding to the soaring numbers of off-topic posts.

No, after I got the IPL of 1.xx and the SPL of 2.xx, I tried to flash it to the older rom again, but still got the same IPL and SPL. THEN I flashed it to the current Tmobile rom and THEN to this rom. What I'm wondering is if by flashing it the second time to the older rom, I undid the unlocking.
I'll try it out all over again when I have time sometime next week. For now, school and work won't allow me to.

You have to get both IPL / SPL down to 1.xx or the CID Unlock will not be complete. This isn't the thread to discuss this problem. Please take it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435

(others have had similar issues and have had to flash the button rom 8 times or so before SPL changed. Also reboot your PC that you are flashing from (or just try from a different PC) and remove your SD card).

Again, please take this discussion to here for further assistance as it has nothing to do with this ROM:

Yes. The first post recommends radio 2.19 and has the download links for it. Just flash that onto your phone. 2.19 doesn't have as great of reception as newer radios, but the missed call / sms issue goes away (at least for me and numerous other people here it does). As always YMMV

Battery status is in the ROM. You can disable it on the today screen, but you can't uninstall it unless you dump the ROM and do a little, ahhh, rewarming (not cooking).

sorry so slow on the update but life has been busy. So my G4 DTMF tones now work after running HTweakC. Funny thing is when i installed it, it showed dtmf already enabled. Tried an IVR and it did not work you need to uncheck it for the tones to work. The tweak software was made for wm5 so I'm not sure if this has something to do with it.

Battery life has been decent but with very little use. I sit at a desk all day so I here and there send text messages. I also have my exchange server configured so its consitantly checking mail all day. I can go all day with making phone calls and still have about 40% getting home. This is with Omap running and gprs staying connected all day.

@All updaters
I was always a fan of FARIA's ROMs ... SOmehow he would always make the most complete , well compiled , fully functionable roms and that was the reason that I would always consider his ROMs as my first choice.

I understand that there needs a lot of effort to make a "prereleased" version of WM6 work in a Device that was designed to work with wm5...
Some questions :

1)With the [REAL THING] I have faced various problems with my Internet connection and the Activesync. Also whenever i chose to connect with the wifi I would have various dcs... I tried the Xplore 1.1 and the problem solved. Is there anything different with the driver between the two roms? I saw that they are based in different builds .

2) I have noticed that sometimes the messaging application hangs and the device needs restart.... any suggestion?

Yep, I pretty much checked all that before posting........

I disabled the date/time update from the PC and this at least stopped the date & time immediately resetting on docking the Wizard. There is obviously a bigger problem though as none of my Calendar Appointments have synchronised.... I am sure there was a post about something similar a while ago. I'll have a search :(

Andy

Update: Fixed. Here's what I did:
I changed the Timezone to something else other than GMT and the date corrected itself... I then changed the Timezone back to GMT and now the date & time are back to normal.
On the PC I disabled synchronising of the Calender, let it sync and then re-enabled sychronising of the Calender and this has also now gone back to normal. Weird

IPL/SPL: 2.26
GSM: 2.19.11 (I had downgraded from 2.61.11)
OS: Faria 2.18.0.0

I have lost the incomming call ringtone. The phone only vibrates, no sound. I checked the settings and the test sound works fine. I am not able to change the ringer tone to another sound either. Everytime I change and try to save, it defaults to the Windows-Ringer and does not save.

I have followed post #534 and #478, but they did not solve this problem.

I ran the Extended ROM unlocker from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=249359

have IPL/SPL 3.09 and i'm running faria's WM6 The Real Thing. i ran the unlocker and everything seemed to go fine. i did the soft reset like i was supposed to and was able to view the extended rom. faria's WM6 has all the carrier config. cabs stored in the ext. rom for auto configuration after install. i've already configured for my carrier (cingular) so i don't need these cabs. i deleted them and all went fine. about five minutes later my mda froze up and i had to soft reset. it freezes all the time now. i later noticed that my extended was corrupted...there's a bunch of files and folders in it that have weird characters for file names and they can't be deleted. when i view them from my computer, several of them show as being multiple GB's in size. what i'm wondering is this: can i re-flash faria rom, and overwrite the corrupted extended rom to fix this?

My mileage definitely varied. Even with Radio 2.19 installed, I was not receiving all calls - the caller would just get voicemail.

I'm hoping this can be resolved in the near future, but I believe it requires a rebuild of the radio stack, which I'm sure isn't a very easy undertaking.

Shame, too, because I absolutely *loved* the rest of the ROM!

I haven't tried the new batch of ROMs (mUn, X-Plore or Faria's RT) with Mapopolis, but there was certainly a problem with the older Orwell's-based WM6 ROMs. Mapopolis installs and even runs correctly- at least at first, but as you navigate (drive around with BT GPS running) everything works fine for about 15-20 minutes, then the RAM on the Wizard starts depleting quickly- like from 20MB to 2MB in 30-60 seconds. Finally a system message pops up telling you to close an app to free up memeory- your only choices are "Mapopolis" or "Phone" (since WM6 has already killed all other apps.) You really can't choose either, since by the time you finish reading the message the phone has locked up requiring a reboot.

Let us know if this Faria ROM has the same problem. I use Mapopolis enough that this was the deal breaker that sent me screaming back to WM5!

Since Mapopolis has been discontinued (so no new maps will be forthcoming) I suppose I should just find different Nav software. Mapopolis worked so darn well, however, I'm loathe to switch. (Prior to Mapopolis I was a "victim" of Pharos Ostia versions 3.x to 6.2. I refused to pay them another $50 to be disappointed by V7!)

How to do enable the onscreen keyboard in windows media player. I noticed in this build and others as well it is enable and with that, it allowed you to filter out the song list to find a song quickly. The ROM I am using now is Molski 2.26 and I would like to keep it if possible. ???????????

Im having a problem here.. I was updating the phone as it freezed on 99%, then i remove it form the USB cable and since then i just see the "rainbow" screen with 3 messages: IPL 2.18 SPL 2.18 and in right upper corner RUU.

I tried to hard reset it and it doesent work.

Can i save it?

The rainbow is the bootloader screen. This is normal considering what you have done. Insert the usb cable again and rerun update. Do not disconect the usb cable again even if your device seems to freeze. Just wait.:)

NEVER remove the USB cable unless you get an error on your PC (and then it will tell you how to recover).

Had this too on other roms. The problem on my device was the extended_rom. I tried deleting everything from the extended_rom with total commander. The result was that the device constantly was trying to access the corrupted extended_rom (high CPU usage).

I have a G4 Wizard from TMobile that is still CID locked. I got the 5 step package like installer and followed the steps:

1. Install fresh TMobile rom from their website
2. Install the two cab files. Reboot device
3. Plug in to USB and sync
4. Launch shell tool, get rom, extract OS, flash OS, OK
5. Let it sit. NOTE: I get a "Cannot execute Repllog.exe" error midway during install, but ignore it"
6. When it says end, Hold Communications/Voice Dial button, hit reset, then click send when it says

All that happens is that it reboots into the bootloader (3 color screen)

What am I doing wrong?

First I would like to publicly thank Faria for all his hard work on this rom and all the previous beautiful ones he and his friends have brought to us.

Now to the nitty gritty.

This rom was the most unstable thing I've had in my phone yet. I'm not sure if it was the BS or what but my phone went to crap and I really need my phone.

1. The battery itself just refused to hold a charge. It would deplete in 2-3 hours. I get 40-50 phone calls and 30-60 emails daily so the data transfer is humongous. This seems to be the weak part of the rom. Faria's 3.3 was hard on the battery also, but this was just ridiculous. Basically, it made me hate my phone because I was no longer mobile.

2. The constant soft resets were a killer also. I'd be in the middle of typing an email or on a phone call and the phone would just reset itself. This was not good. All my business pretty much runs through this phone so my irritation level was pretty high. Coupled with the soft resets was me having to turn my bt headset off and back on everytime I left the phone's range or the phone would reset itself. When the phone is always ringing and you either need to write while talking or drive while talking this is a no no.

3. The phone actually ran well for the first week or so, but by the begginning of week 2 it went all downhill fast. I tried removing battery status, updating to beta 3, etc... but it was useless for me. I also had a problem with WIFI where it would always work, but would freeze the phone after 5-10 minutes of use and force me to do a manual soft reset.

4. I love the programs Faria has on this rom. Oh my god! It's why I stayed with it so long hoping the problems would fix themselves or someone would figure it out. It has everything you could ask for except for Foxit PDF reader (freeware) which blows away anything Adobe is doing right now. I commend on the themes, sounds, programs, visuals and speed of the rom.

In conclusion, I still deeply respect the cooks work and do not hold this against him. I will use his future products, but this current one just doesn't do it for me.

I also must admit that may be my battery just won't hold a charge anymore, but I won't be sure until the 2 new ones I ordered arrive and are tested.

Peace, Love and Prosperity.

When I am on IM+ , before updating the rom, I could press the End Talk button to act as a minimize button, but now when I do it, it disconnects the internet and IM+ have to wait for a connection status

Is there a way to turn it back to minimize? Instead of turning the internet connection off?

First of all, don't panic. If you can get to the boot screen you should be able to reflash it. You'll find that ActiveSync won't be able to connect, so any apps that rely on it won't work.

The best thing to do is get a ROM from the provider of your phone (eg. T-Mobile if it's from them, O2 if it's a Mini-S, etc) and try flashing that. You should find romupdateutility.exe (also called "programme a.exe" I believe?) should be able to reflash the ROM even though the device won't connect. If you run into the unable to connect problem even with these normal WM5 you might be experiencing some other issue. I've successfully recovered my device in the boot screen state like you describe no probs, however.

I've read here that the device is unable to charge when not at the boot screen (as it's WM that has the charging code), so remove your battery until you're ready to reflash it - if you leave it at the boot screen you may find the battery runs out and you cannot recharge it in the device.

I'm a relative newbie to ROM upgrading myself (although managed it successfully with several ROMs) so I'm sure there are others to provide more info or correct what I've said.

One thing I just managed to nail down with this build is the loss of text messages. I'm using a G3 T-Mobile MDA

To Test:

Send a SMS to your wizard.
After it arrives do a soft reset (don't open the message or pocket outlook)

After your wizard reboots the test message will be gone with no evidence of its prior existence.

I discovered this after having a few times where my wizard would not open pocket outlook at all so I had to soft reset the device.

How can I change the button "Delete" on the left conner, to "New Message"
This is a feature of WM6 and not the Faria rom. All WM6 ROMs have the left soft key mapped to Delete instead of New Message. I hated this at first, but to be honest, after the initial shock wore off, I do really like having the delete handy like that (but I receive more SMS than I send so the delete works better for me).

I've not seen any registry settings to change this. I've seen where some have tried using various programs that remap soft keys, but not sure its worked or not. If you look at early threads of WM6 roms, there is lots of discussion about this issue.

Check the WM6 Tweaks thread as I think it was discussed in there too.

Then it starts to become really slow.
Open Task Manager and i see a CPU Usage constant on 100% (idle process taking 85%!).

Is there a solution?

I reinstalled WM5 last night and had this same issue. I tracked it down to happening if the GPRS bubble that pops up (upon clicking the GPRS taskbar icon) has the "Disconnect" button on. I used Tweaks2K2 to remove the button, and voila, the end talk button acts properly. Maybe it acts the same on WM6?

To "help you fix it" will require that you do work and for you to provide information. But to be honest, your problem doesn't have to do with this specific rom so maybe you should start a new thread instead of making this thread longer than it already is with tons of non related issues.

To get you started, you need to make sure your GPRS stuff is setup properly for your provider. If that is, then get rid of Radio 2.69 and try using 2.19 and see if the problem goes away. If that doesn't help then get rid of IPL/SPL 3.08 (I don't know why people think they have to upgrade to this. I'm sure at some point this will be a good thing, but just having the highest numbers is NOT the best choice).

With all that said, please take this to either a new thread, or a thread that is more appropriate for the issue you are having.

I have the same problem. It occurs only when your wizard is connected to your PC via Active Sync and you try to softreset your phone. So, if you want to soft reset your phone while it is conneced to your PC, you've better disconnect your device and connect it after it reboots.

IPL/SPL: 2.26
GSM: 2.19.11 (I had downgraded from 2.61.11)

I have lost the incomming call ringtone. The phone only vibrates, no sound. I checked the settings and the test sound works fine. I am not able to change the ringer tone to another sound either. Everytime I change and try to save, it defaults to the Windows-Ringer and does not save.

i just want to say thanks to faria for this rom, it works great

i just have a quick question, is there any easy solution to disabling activesync from popping up all the time?

if i want to use activesync, i want to open the program manually instead of finding it working in the background all the time wasting away memory.

i searched this problem, and it said to set a exchange server since you could choose its sync times, but it didn't work.

i really hate when activesync starts up while i'm listening to music, it makes my bt stereo skip like no other.

Hi, i have the same issue with my T'Mobile MDA

I just solved this issue myself, here's how:

open the registry, goto hkcu/controlpanel/sounds/ringtone0 then change the setting for "Sound" (which should read *vibrate* to (any ringer....) something such as "dogbark.wav". no idea why it is set to vibrate when its specifically on ring, but that seems to be the problem.

Hope that helps! if you need anything else (or it works) PM me.

I had installed some cab from somewhere which enabled menu sounds (click on start button, opening of programs menu etc.) just like WM5.

By default, the sounds were not there in Farias rom. And I would like to go back to that state now.

I still want the sounds for system events and programs such as reminders and all, but I no more want the sounds for start menu click and programs menu opening.
Where and what do I change?

Thanks.....

Which radio version are you using?? It definately sounds like a radio issue... many other posts here with similar issues. Take a look at the radio version 2.19. Has been working great for me and many others.

Faria,
On the first page you mansioned that this rom is slow because it is loaded with applications. So, if I take your future vanilla rom and install the same applications that you included to the [real thing], will it become as slow as the [real thing] is?
I want to know what exactly makes a rom slow.

"sticking" is normal. The rom will update up to a certain point (it varies with the roms) and then they will get "stuck" for up to 5 mins (sometimes even more). Just leave it alone. It will either finish, or will give you an error on your pc. You have to wait for that. If you get an error on your PC, then you have to tell us what that is. But at that point you should reflash back to an official ROM in most cases. Then attempt it again.

I am not sure if anyone has posted this 'bug' before but Adobe .PDF files don't open correctly when you click them from FileManager or Total Commander. Adobe LE launches but then displays an error about file not found, this might just be with filenames with spaces in them.
I have fixed it by editing the .PDF association through Total Commander:

Command: "\Windows\Adobe Reader.exe"
Parameter: "%1"
Icon File: \Windows\Adobe Reader.exe
Index: 0

You could equally do this via a registry editor.

Well after 2 days of bricking this poor thing (Cingular 8125) over and over :D I finally broke down and paid to have it unlocked.

Wizard Love was the ONLY ROM that seemed to work no matter what I tried. It was a NICE ROM, but I wanted MORE. After Unlocking, every ROM I try now works, even this one. Great Piece of work. Not much to loose if I messed it up to bad, got the thing on eBay for $150, so tried every thing anyone happened to mention in the threads, and in the end, the "Faria G4 Step by step installer with instructions " in the thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298967 was the system I used and use over and over now. And every single 3rd party program I had running on the stock ROM is working fine now too.

Thanks All, I think I can go and donate now :)

P.S. One note about the type/version phone I have, if I left the MiniSD in the slot NO ROM ever worked for me, once I took it out it works fine. Not sure why, I'm sure there are those out that that might, all I know is it wouldn't for me. ALSO, heheheeh, sorry, be sure you have a GOOD SYNC cable, and not one full of holes or kinked like mine was the first day..... hmmm must have been my cats.....

After that sunnysoft asked me to perform a softreset, witch I did. But since then my Wizard never restarted properly, it shows me the starting screen, "Starting windows...", but after that a blank black screen.

In most cases you should not do a full restore from one rom to the next. Use something like PIM Backup to grab your PIM, SMS, etc stuff and restore that, but don't try restoring system settings as the reghacks and all between the different custom roms causes issues. Also you can NOT restore a WM5 backup on a WM6 rom as the PIM database is a different format and some (many?) registry entries are different.

At this point you can try doing a hardreset or better yet, reflash the Faria WM6 and start over.

yes this rom has nothing to do with any prereleased wizard rom,or parts.

no....we been unable to crack the vista update utiility so far.....

The issue is with the VISTA drivers for the 8125. I had similar problems with an 8525, but there is an "updated" Vista 8525 driver somewhere here on XDA. If you can somehow get a fixed driver for the 8125 for Vista then you should be able to. Otherwise, you'll have to stick to either XP or 2003.

Apparently the Vista driver uses a different "port" to communicate with the device. This works great when the device is up and running, but when u enter bootloader mode (which is when the image update takes place), the device cannot communicate with vista on the new port. Getting a different vista driver for 8125 SHOULD solve the problem (as it did for me with the 8525 I tried it on) :)
Hope that helps

Hi every1,

1.) Cingular 8125 (Wizard): open Text Messaging, switch to SMS, manage folders, create a new folder called "Archival". X-close Text Messaging and restart it - the folder is there. X-close and soft-reset... and it's a goner.

2.) Default U.S. English locale has a dot instead of a forward-slash as a Date separator.

3.) SIM contacts not visible in Windows Mobile Contacts.

Back to NotTooSmart/Vanilla WM6/10.2.0.8 :).

By the way, a question for the gurus: why do WM6 version and build numbers differ so substantially across all of those ROMs? Any/all/none of those built on top of release-grade (non-beta) WM6? Faria Real Thing versioning seems to be the same as Windows Mobile 6 "Standard". NotTooSmart seems to be ahead a couple minor version numbers...?

Ok before Faria gets slammed with posts about the flash freezing at 99%.... this is normal. All ROM's (Even releases by HTC or your carrier) have a point when it looks frozen but its not.

Also one thing I have seen is that people expect these things to be perfect OOB (out of box), this is never the case. There will always be a few little kinks and if you read the forum you will either find the answer in this post or another. So read before you post.

On another note, faria I love this release. So far no issues seen, but i will run the phone hardcore as i usually do to see if there are any issues. Thanks again for all your hardwork in putting this release out.

OK I ran this thing. It went up to 99% and just flat out stopped. After a while, it timed out with the ERROR 260. Now I can't get out of bootloader mode, and what's worse, no rom update utility will even work with the phone since its already IN boot loader mode.

I beleive its a G3 (see bootloader IPL/SPL below)

That being said, I did follow the link you mentioned above, and I followed it step by step (although its in some foreign language, Italian I think). It didn't do me any good. All I get is that crumby 264 Error now. I "would" put back the 8125 image from Cingular, but I can't do anything with this bootloader mode.

PS: I'm running Server 2003 with ActiveSync 4.2 on the machine I'm doing all of this on (I have Vista but I am not going there right now).

The link is in English yes, but the rom update exe is NOT (I wasn't trying to be funny or anything).

I did try step 3.2 (that's what I had been trying all along), but the farthest I get is that 264 message (in Italian). Its also interesting that they have instructions to get into boot-loader mode, when there is no other mode I can get into to beign with! :(

I've never tried to flash a rom from Server 2003. So maybe thats the problem. Maybe its like Vista and can't see the phone in bootloader. If thats the case then you need to find an XP box. But if you are in bootloader and it does try to flash the rom, make sure you are now trying to do an official rom for your phone. IF THat fails, then go get the Wizard Love and try flashing that on. Also pull out your SD card while doing all this. Reboot your PC before you try again...

Also keep in mind that your phone will not charge now until you get a rom back on and working. The good news is that if you are in bootloader then your phone shouldn't be toast.

I have previously flashed WM5 (the one from HTC) on this phone before using Win2k3 so I know that's not the problem. Darned wm6. I wish I never tried it.

Anywho, I'm still stuck at the same location. That (*&(*@# .exe is useless. I don't get why someone couldn't write an .exe that doesn't just sit there waiting for the phone to enter bootloader mode (it already is in it) :(

Ok, after some extended testing, turns out this problem is not specific to Faria's ROM - it occurs on other images as well, although with different frequencies. Seems that if you do not turn a mobile device off and on before soft-resetting, Text Messaging does not save recent changes and they get lost (SMS messages included). Not sure if this is WM6-specific, cook-image -specific, or generally WM-specific.

On another note, upgrading 8125 to any WM6 ROM image causes dropped SMS messages and incoming calls. A message or a call is received by a mobile device (you get billed for it), but you never see it in Text Messaging or Call Log. Radio ROM Cingular US, used on Cingular network, 02.19.11. The problem is *NOT* related to cellular coverage (I am always testing in the very same spot at home with 100% signal), but hardware and software combination. If someone finds a reliable radio ROM for WM6, please drop me a line.

HELP? Phone Dead?

NOTE: information below:

I don't know what those numbers mean, but here they are:

IPL 2.25 (from bootloader RGB/White strip)
SPL 2.25 (from bootloader RGB/White strip)
CID NOT UNLOCKED (as far as I know) [Note: lokiwiz [all versions] was unable to CID unlock this phone. All I ever get was an internal write error blah blah blah]

I hate to be pushy here, but I was wondering if someone can help me out here. The phone is useless now since its not getting out of the bootloader. Can anyone help please?
Again, I do appologize for being pushy here.

I have previously flashed WM5 (the one from HTC) on this phone before using Win2k3 so I know that's not the problem. Darned wm6. I wish I never tried it.

Anywho, I'm still stuck at the same location. That (*&(*@# .exe is useless. I don't get why someone couldn't write an .exe that doesn't just sit there waiting for the phone to enter bootloader mode (it already is in it) :(
Again, I don't know if its the same, but Vista has a similar issue. You can flash a rom on Vista, but if the phone is in bootloader then Vista can't see it. I'm wondering if this is the case with 2003. Do you not have access to XP someplace (a friend or something)? Just to flash the official rom and get it working again?

You also never (directly) answered my question/comment... When you try to flash the phone now, does it attempt to flash it (where you see the progress bar)? Or does the phone not see the computer (you can tell if it sees the computer if you have USB in the lower left). DOn't worry that activesync doesn't connect, thats a non issue at this point. Your phone just has to show USB and then you run the RUU program.

BTW:Have you searched the forums (with the search tool here, or with Google) to see if there are other reports of issues with 2003?

For those running this ROM, I found a couple of splash screens KarhU posted in the Hermes forum that I updated a little. Read this post and find the RUU in it if you'd like to use these:

shassouneh:

I've gone through something similar recently. Neither Server 2003 nor Vista will work for boot-loader mode flashing, you need XP SP2 and ActiveSync 4.5 for this. ActiveSync will not connect, but you will be able to re-flash the latest Cingular ROM (available from HTC web site).

Remember to charge up your device first, otherwise it might go brick (dead battery, 8125 does not get charged while in bootloader mode). Put the device in bootloader mode, use the power button to power it off, and hook it up to the wall charger (instead of a USB cable).

Finally, once it is fully re-charged, re-flash the latest Cingular ROM.

If you get stuck on the boot-up sequence (IPL/SPL version screen), try hard-resetting the device. It will ask you whether you want to re-format the FAT partition, agree with the Send key. If you get the dreaded "Format is failed" message, your BINFS format is shot (happens often on interrupted flashes), and you need to restore from a miniSD card (a miniSD card restore includes an additional BINFS formatting step, which does not happen when you re-flash over USB only). More information is here:

http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Wizard

Section: "SD card method".

The above brought my phone back from a dead, locked brick. Best of luck.

Ok, The good news is, I got to flash this back to WM5 with the image from Cingular/HTC (using Server 2003).

The Bad news is, I would really like to give WM6 a go on this, but I am faced with the challenge of CID unlocking it. The lokiwiz tool proved fruitless in this regard! Any way around it that doesn't involve downgrading a rom?

IMPORTANT NOTE:

I have flashed this phone MORE THAN ONCE, and another 8525 AT LEAST ONCE with Windows Server 2003. I didn't have to do anything special other than installign ActiveSync 4.2. This is just an FYI. :)

lokiwiz02b should get the job done if you do EVERYTHING right. downgrade to the button rom and make sure BOTH IPL and SPL read 1.xx after the downgrade.

then follow the direction in this thread:
The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435)

this is the exact procedure that i followed and it worked like charm.

lokiwiz03a didn't work for me though. it sim unlocked but not cid.

I suppose it can't hurt to downgrade the rom, although i really feel reluctant to doing so. I have tried lokiwiz before (without a rom downgrade), and it didn't work. Will try it I suppose.

Why are you reluctant to downgrade? Its just flashing another rom (that happens to have a lower ipl / spl). And trying to do stuff like lokiwiz without following the steps is just asking for trouble. You need to decide if you are willing to do things the way they are supposed to be done in the guides that have been proven to work. If you have to do things your own way and skip steps because you think you know better, then don't expect much help (hey, if you find a new way, fantastic). All of this stuff in the various guides / stickies has been done by many, many people and it works if you follow the steps. If you skip things or take short cuts then stuff doesn't work (or you wind up with a dead phone; worse than what you just had).

I don't mind assisting people, but you have posted a couple of times now where you are trying to do this your own way. Best of luck if you continue on that path (as you will have nothing but frustration).

BTW: While Faria's is the original post on CID unlocking, I do like the steps in Dr. P's and how its laid out better for walking you through the process:

Thanx for all your help guys. I really appreciate it. Ok, I followed the steps from the various links that where sent to me, and I have CID unlocked the phone, and downgraded to IPL/SPL 1.xx. I also flashed to the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM and all went good there.

I also managed to finally glash to the ROM from this very thread (the WM6 CB-AIRAF.exe). This appears to be based on very early builds of crossbow
ROM version 2.18.0.0 WWE
ROM date: 2/14/06 (more than one year old)!

I will keep looking for a later build.

Thanx again for all the help guys.

as a future piece of advice, if a guide has been written and stickied, its because it works IF YOU FOLLOW THE EXACT STEPS. i know that sometimes things seem a little odd, but these odd things are done because the strait-forward way didn't work.

Hi, I've been using this ROM for a few days now and I love it! The only problem I'm having is that I can't create or edit a recurring appointment with a start date in the past. If I change it on my desktop and synch it up it moves over fine, but from my MDA if I try to change it the change doesn't stick.

For example, in my calendar on my desktop at home I have a recurring appointment for my goddaughters birthday, but i entered in the wrong year. I realized this at work and tried to change the start date but with no success.

I've installed a few apps already but none of them are calendar related; I'm still using the TodayAgenda v0.9.50 (2714) that was included in the ROM. Has anyone else seen this problem? I searched around in this thread some but didn't find anything similar.

Thanks.

Oh, I'm running on a T-Mo USA MDA Vario if that makes any difference. The IPL and SPL are both at 2.26.

If you search the forum there have been some solutions posted, I believe one involves deleting the calendar file from the phone and letting it get rebuilt from the desktop.

Okay, I have a quick question for faria or the other experts that are here. I have the 8125, which I have flashed with this ROM and am using the 2.61 radio set with it. It's working GREAT!!! I love it and have basically no issues whatsoever.

I want to tether my laptop to this device and use it when I travel, but there is a big issue where Cingular is saying that my PDA data unlimited plan will not allow me to do that. If I do, they say I will incur additional charges because I'm using it like a modem.

I see there is an Internet Sharing icon that will allow me to tether my device, but can someone explain how this works. Does it just serve as a proxy and connect me through the data side, or does it just do the modem dialing and such in the background and treat the pda as a modem, which will ensure that I get extra charges?

Thanks again for the work on the software. It really made a huge difference in my phone.

I think I found it. Change the HH:mm to hh:mm or h:mm in regional settings. I just didn't scroll down before. It shows HH:mm and H:mm by default, and hit the down arrow to get to the h:mm

Wth ROM upgrades, can someone help me. Normally, any new cooked rom released I would just flash it and then run it from there. I don't seem to have any problems that I notice. I do recall a few times in this forum where people mentioned when upgrading or downgrading to another ROM its best to use the 1.05 Radio button ROM, then flash the T-Mobile 2.26 Official ROM, and then you can flash whatever ROM next.

Now I've already done all the unlocking and that exact procedure once the first time, but thats it. Do I have to do that all the time though when I want to change to another ROM? All the specified programs load and start up in each ROM as specified, but I kind of wonder if I do not do it like people suggest, it might of affect something else.

I personally recommend G3 users should flash back to an offical 2.xx rom, then upgrade to the custom rom. There is no reason to go back to 1.xx (but if you do you have to run lokiwiz again).

moto211
19th April 2007, 07:05 AM
you don't need to downgrade all the way to the button rom, just back to the stock tmo 2.26. it gives you a good base to start with. the only time i don't do this is when i'm reflashing the same rom that i'm currently using. also, i believe that if you downgrade to the button rom, then you would have to unlock again too. i'm not sure about that one though.

I installed this Faria ROM (CB-FARIA.exe) but I don't see it's WM6 now.
I did see at boot time the new AKU ROM but once started when I do start->settings->about it tells me it's WM5 (OS 5.1.195, build 14955.2.3.0)

Can anyone please explain to me whether this is correct and if not, what went wrong? I'm sure I installed the image from the file mention above and I can remember that at first boot time the faria-specefic files were installed (and then rebooted again).

Please confirm I'm running the correct ROM and if not please guide me to the right procedure.
