Can anyone compare these 2 ROMs?
I am not sure if this thread was necessary, but i am pretty sure there are others out there just like me, who are very picky or maybe i should say very confiused about upgrading every other week, installing everything all over again and once everything is perfect and stable, doing everything all over again because there is a new ROM cooked..
Much Respect to Faria and Other ROM cookers out there.. I dont mean to disrespect to your great work.. I just want to know if we should wait, or go with the new ROM.. I am pretty sure you great cookers will come up with new ROMs..
Thank you and once again, dont mean to disrespect.. Just curious..

If the MB works fine for you, you don't need to upgrade to another ROM. The Faria's ROM was release for less than 12 hours, people need more times to install programs and check out all of the pro and con.
MB was based on the beta WM6 ROM.
Faria was a new possibly real/final ROM according to him.
Backup your programs using any good backup programs and try the new ROM. If you don't like Faria's ROM, reload the MB ROM and run your backup, it will take less than 15 minutes. Only you can tell if it's good for you or not.

Just looking at the listing of whats in that ROM, it looks bloated. I like the cleanness of the MB rom. Ill wait for him to release the vanilla rom before trying it out. I perfer to choose my own apps to load. most of that other stuff i rarely use, why waste the ram and flash space for it.
Faria makes good ROMs. I just perfer mine to be clean, so i can make my own choices.

If you don't like waiting, just unpack it and remove them yourself. It's very easy using the guide in Molksi's website :)

That is something I would like to try doing one of these days. I just havent had the free time.
That will be my next step, trying to make my own custom ROMs.

Yes, I was am waiting as well to see the "vanilla" version of his rom so it doesn't have all those extra programs that I don't use anyway. I don't like that he stripped pieces from the rom either (like VOIP even though it's not working.... yet)

My MB Edition works so good for me now I will wait til all the bugs are worked out and patches posted before I try Faria's latest.

or you could simple do your own! as for voip it does not work because ther is no service for it plus the app is imcomplete in all wm6 roms ..so whats the point of having it?

I don't think it's incomplete... well, not totally.. I believe we just need to figure out what will trigger the menu options for it. Well, no one knew the VOIP button was in the comm manager until I tried to add it just for the hell of it. I am sure there are lots to be discovered about it if we had enough people trying things.

the gurus been at it for ages and this are their conclusions 9at the moment],i Even supplied missing files from Roms that i have, this is supposed to work in future with some carriers.....but if you can make it work then you will be remembered for ieternity .:D all thought i have a new crossbow rom to test it may be working. for me skype does the job.

Thanks for your input. I am assuming your rom is straight from HTC or from someone you know at HTC? Is this "new" rom different from the one you uploaded yesterday that you had for a year? What is the date on it?

One bug - When the Wizard is in Standby mode and set to vibrate, it does not vibrate on new e-mails received. It worked correctly in the 2.26 ROM I was using previously, but didn't work in the 1.18 ROM that was on the device when I first got it. Looks like the behavior is back to the way it was in the early WM5 ROMs. I get the feeling this is deeper than just a tweak to the registry, but would happily be corrected.
As for the "feature" aspect, I think Microsoft refers to them as "opportunities for developers". :-)

-Petewrong... you comparing 2 totaly diferent roms... and again this is in all crossbow roms...so how do you call it a bug in my rom?
i fact this thread should not exist because there is no other roms that can be compared to?
if you people want to compare o slag anyones work at least make sure that the 2 roms have the same core, dont you think?

Faria??????
the rom i released is a original crossbow core.....ther will be no more builds released to the public...from my part that is....as i said in my tread this is my last rom for the wizard....cooking Roms has become very expensive to me and other things.

I wasn't intending to say that this was a bug in your ROM in particular, just pointing out that there have been issues with this in the past (1.18 had a problem, 2.x seemed to fix that). Whether it's specific to this particular release of WM6 or is a setting that can be updated remains to be seen. From everything I remember in the early days, there's no setting that can be changed to make Vibrate work for new e-mails when the device is on Standby. That implies a bug in the OS itself - probably at the lower levels with the actual OS files. I like everything else that I'm seeing and appreciate the work that you've put into it, but this is still a bug. (Just one that I don't think you have much control over.)

thats funy i could swear that i seen someone post stating ; "new rom ,new set of bugs"
the reason such feature did not deserve my attencion was because it makes no diference to me....there were other problems to solve....something like that sometimes takes minutes to fix ,other times it takes weeks.... its like the delete feature in messaging,i love it....other people hate it.
what i can sujest is get a reg dump of a rom that has that feature and compare it to crossbow....im sure you will find the solution....maybe start a new tread?...
funny thing is noone ever starts a tread about; whats good about x rom.
let me know if you need help.
ps this is not a personal attact or anything....im just stating the facts.
good luck and thanks.

Well, I don't remember posting anything that would have been denigrating about there being bugs in a new ROM (heck, I expect it - I'm a well-conditioned MS user. :D ). I appreciate the work and can appreciate that this is low on your priority list. It was low on the priority list for Cingular (and MS/HTC?) as well seeing that their first Wizard release had the same bug. I'll need to do some digging to find an easy way to get a registry dump in a manner that I can "diff" them. Otherwise it's just way too much to dig through. I'll also have to revert back at least once to do that, but I can get a backup of my current setup so I shouldn't lose anything doing that.
As for the "What's good about ..." type threads - I wouldn't even know where to start. The first thing is that this is even available. I still remember getting support dropped on earlier PPC's because the upgrade wasn't cost-effective for the manufacturer, even though it was almost production ready. What you and the others who have dedicated so much time to this have done is incredibly valuable.
My only frustration at all has been that I don't get vibrate notification on new e-mails and I don't think that's your fault - I think it's either a file/dll/exe problem or (less likely) a setting somewhere that isn't set correctly.

Well, if you compare the more than 530 downloads @ files2peers and an unknown number of downloads @ rapidshare, to the few bug/feature reports (and I don't mean those from which the cause lies between the keyboard and chair), I would state you have an impressive low negative feedback ;)
In my opinion that is almost equal to a enormous high positive feedback.
But it would be nice to hear some positive sounds also, I agree.
That said, I want to say: nice job.
Love the rom, love the speed, and love the applications installed, makes it real easy to do a quick hard-reset, and having an almost complete rom right from scratch (I just have to add some herbes to match my own flavour, but the Rom is wonderfull cooked).
Thanks again,
EqX

They are very troubling similarities between Faria's ROM and the original leaked Orwells'1984 ROM - so much to conclude that Faria's ROM is based on Orwells.
See post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299145 for details.

So I did a quick binary comparison between MB ROM and Faria's WM6 following my Orwell/Faria comparison. Here is the outcome (log files attached in the .ZIP).
Identical files: 1255
Different files: 75
Only in Faria: 196
Only in MB_ROM: 96
Conclusion: with 1255 files that are identical, MB's & Faria's WM6 ROM share a lot in common.
I must insist that this is NOT a criticism of any cook's work (Faria, MB's author and others).
My metric is only a binary comparison of files. Nothing more, nothing less.
But it can tell you how much common code is in different ROMs.
ROM Chefs do an invaluable work by customizing, tweaking the registry, fixing bugs, improving the ROMs, adding new applications.
I want clearly to acknowledge that fact and thank all chefs for they work and for all I learn studying and dissecting their ROMs.

the Orwell's was based in the Chinese version ,how do you think the ro cooks translated it to wwe?
thats rigth....by using the files from my current rom,
so of course they share allot in comon....also both of the Roms share the same xip section....
since you basically are calling me a lier ,maybe you should also compare the first hermes rom with mine or other wizard wm6 rom...you may get a surprise! they share numerous files and modules.,etc....hell even comparing wm6 to an aku1 rom you will find comon files....what a great find!
guess who build the core roms ! microsoft,so do you belive they rebuild every single file for every single device?
i honestly dont know what you problem is but it is obvious you got some problem with me....or maybe you are just a puppet in others hands...
furthermore its a well know fact that other Roms use files from my Roms posted here in the forum before.
about the MB rom....
have a guess who was who packed the initial rom!
so my friend before accusing a moderator of lying to people ....make sure you got your facts straight ...
i do not misled people,by saying whats not or modifying rom builds to appear newer etc.
i hereby demand a public apology from you .
ps
thanks for damaging my credibility in the forum.....you must be proud of yourself.

My vibrate/flash etc..all work fine on my Wizard for new mail etc..with Faria Rom...my only complaint is my Bluetooth falls off as the handsfree, have to keep resetting it.
That never happened with other Roms...otherwise, Faria's Rom is very nice and has been running perfectly pretty much for me personally and I appreciate all of his work.
