Hi all

since Athena does not have ear piece set, a Bluetooth headphone is essential and the more advanced features the better so I searched the net looking for Bluetooth headphones that can do more than answering and ending the call,,, more like getting into contacts.. and I found 2
1- LG Style-i Acts as Cellphone Remote, But Like a Bluetooth Earpiece, Too
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/images/lg_btooth.jpg

2- V3 BTH-8 OLED Bluetooth Headset
http://www.citysoftware.com.au/Content/ProductImagesLarge/VTH0001_0.jpg

So what do you think and how compatible are they to our bulky devise??

Hi Dp... I got the BT8010 works very well, however all sound is redirected to the jabra. So when the phone rings, that is also redirected, so some times it is a bit frustrating, I have the dopod u1000, do you have the same problem? or have you found a way round this?

I have been using the HTC S100 ( a rebadged iTech Clip R35) with it and it seems to work like all the others. Every time you turn it on or come back into range you have to set it as handsfree again. but then windows mobile has been doing that for years and I am used to it.

One thing i did notice however, is that my ameo rings through the speakers even when bluetooth is connected to the headset.... I expected everything to be re-directed through the headset, but not this time!

Hi

I have been using the LGi style for couple of days , and its great. Works really well with my ameo. The only thing it doesn't do is print the caller ID it does tell you the caller numbner though.

I have microsoft voice command on the ameo, and that works really well with the LG i style, all the voice commands are routhed to the LG I.

I doubt between a normal ear-headset, like a nokia BH800, or a LG.

How does the LG work with pairing. Can you easily answer the phone when the LG is in standby modus?

bashi007
26th March 2007, 11:41 PM
The pairing is quite easy, and it can pair upto 3 phones. Just hold down the clr key for 5 secs and on phone add new device. It's very easy to answer calls, just press send at the side of LG i .

Hi. Sorry this if my first.

Have a problem with my ameo ( which I have had now for just over a week ) is going to be swopped out by T-Mobile with another unit this morning.

As the bluetooth stack on the phone seems to like to turn itself off at the most inoportune moments ( especialy while driving !)

The unit is paired with a Plantronics discovery 640 which has worked flawlesly for me for well over 12 months but the Ameo turns off the bluetooth. This has happened at times when the phone is in my bag or even just sat on the passenger seat and get that despised " booop " from the headset to tell me that the units lost connectivity.

Apart from that the unit is great. solid built and goes like the clappers. GPS with tomtom 6 is excelent, digital connectivy is first class but as others have commented, battery life is not the greatest.

Has anyone else experienced issues with the bluetooth facility on the ameo ?

Not using anything special with the BT. Paired with one device. not discoverable nor any bt FTP or other file sharing turned on. Could I be an isolated case ?

thanks in advance.

I'd be interested to know this as well. I have a work phone and a personal phone and it would be great to route both incoming calls to one device such as the LG Style-i.
Doubt it's possible though.. or is it?

I am interested in getting an Athena but would definitely need something like the style-i to make the Athena practical as a phone first and foremost..
Its a fantastic device but... too big! Need the phone to be accessible at all times.

I was have done some further research and am sided with the Jabra option. Here's basically what I've got it down to:

Option 1) A bluetooth "clip" type device together with an existing set of headphone

Pro's
- Excellent options for listen to music
Con's
- if your not already "rigged up" then it would be a hassle trying to answer a call and put the headphones on at the same time.

Option 2) Jabra BT8010

Pro's
- Ability to use ear piece like a min-mobile phone - i.e. it vibrates, pull it our of pocket, answer call, put it to ear (plus it has caller id and let you speed dial)
Con's
- music sounds crap???
- make's you look is an tosser??

Can anyone comment on the con's for Jabra BT8010 option? I know that music will never be as good as wired headphones, but does it have any bass? Can you pump the volume is to a reasonable level? Also, I've only ever seen suited banker types getting around with the bluetooth ear piece and reckon they look like wankers. Would the Jabra make me look like one too? Or would some who notices me walking along with it in stereo mode assume they are just a normal pair of headphones?

Hi all, I've had my Ameo for a week now and am pretty happy with it.

1. I have an i-tech clip s35 into which I plug my stereo headphones. Ameo works very well with this. To answer Ameo, just press the button on the i-tech, or press at any time during the call to connect the bluetooth. Voice activation also works well.

2. Listening to music is great and Ameo will cut off music when answering or making calls

3. Problem is that connecting to music player only worked when I originally paired the devices. Since then I have not managed to get the music software to recognise it.

Anyone any advice or help?

Best

the iWing stuff requires you to press and hold a button to activate stereo A2DP mode.

On mine its skip Forward button. For about 4 seconds, it will beep, and then connect.

After that its working with music again.

Same for song's title, no title on the lcd but this might due to my mp3 file's is not named properly.
Battery status is definitely there. I really like the way i can quickly shuffle thru. my song library with the button on the headset. Very convenient and handy.

Hi,

I've got the Discovery 655.

- Really small.
- Weight: only 9 grams.
- Vibration works very well.
- Several charging options (directly to power, through USB port or through AAA batery).
- You can use it with or with out the earloop.

The only problem:

- There is no display.

For that reason I'm still looking for:

- Something really small.
- Allow me to access the whole contacts in my Athena.
- See the Name id and Number id.
- I like the LG idea but I don't like to have only 2 colums with numbers, I would prefer 3:

This:

1 2 3
4 5 6
7 8 9
0

and not this:

1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8
9 0

By the way, any news about this ?

http://www.airlive.com/skyphone-1000.htm

Someone talk about it but, as far as I know, this is only Windows 2000 or XP compatible ......

Another option I woundn't mind is to be able to use the LG tool for dialing and my Plantronics Discovery 655 to put it on my ear to hear and talk ....... but I don't think that's possible.

Have you seen the Samsung F300 ??? I'm looking for something like that, but just as a Bluetooth gadget as a complement for my Athena.
Basically because the Athena cost too much money and I don't want to see my Athen lay on the floor because I was on a hurry, trying to pick up a call ......

Manufacturers like Nokia, Sony Ericsson, HTC, ..... should develope something like that as an extension of their high-end phones. Those ones use to be expensive and big so it is better if you keep them on your back pack or any safe place.

I would appreciate your comments.

Best regards,
Alberto

Got my 6700 and jabra 320s to work. All buttons and voice dial perfect. Mp3 audio is choppy.

I saw a thread somewhere while searching the bt threads that had a reg mod to change bitrate (I think in WMP?) and also a volume hack.

I completely agree alberto, fair enough it means carrying something extra about but that would make the Ameo / Athena so much more usable in many conditions. I would pay for such a device and wouldnt mind carrying it about with me, charging it up etc. I went for the LG handset but now im looking for something that can do more.
I would idealy like to be able to text from such a device, and make phone calls. Im happy with the Athena as it is, internet browsing is great, music and video playing is spot on, just not particulary usuable as a phone without a bluetooth add on (handset / headset).
The main reason id like i suppose you could call it an extension to the Athena is because if im out and about and I decide to text, very often this is a 2 handed job, whereas with a seperate bluetooth minature phone with screen sized device that i could use for texting and calling would mean the Athena stays in your pocket.
Also being an expensive phone i dont fancy getting it stolen as it does raise attention. (after being mugged but luckerly hiding my phone in my hand whilst my wallet was stolen) using a small device wouldnt draw as much attention.
Anyway ive just seen how much ive written! God i waffle on! Just my 2 bobs worth!

Pluses:

- Same mini usb charging connector
- display
- works well with MP3 from Ameo
- reasonable price (approx. 70 USD)

Minuses:
- no caller ID (but it displays a number of the caller)
- no vibration

Would you mind telling us if the LG style-i pen has a memory for contact/phone book. If it has, how many entries can you store.

I do not expect it to be able to sync contact with the PPC, but as long as it has sufficient enough memory for storing contacts, I will be happy.

Yes, I do agree that it should be able to do text message as well.
Put it simply, we need a simple nokia phone that acts as a BT headset/extension.

I agree that sound is great. Range is superb!!! The FM radio is a plus also. Now only if it could VIBRATE!!! I'm going to return it to the store today. I have tried both the HBH-DS980 & this one. None of them VIBRATES.

PS: How do people get call notification for these dumb (HBH-DS980) & dumber (S705) headsets? You're content with the blaring notification sound from the Athena?

For certain phones (BB 8700c, etc...), you can even browse your address book, your recent dialed numbers to make a call instead just redialing the last number like many other BT headsets (S705). This is a very good headset. Only if it could VIBRATE!!! It would be a PERFECT stereo BT headset for the Athena!!! You'll get beeping call notification when you're listening to music. If you're not wearing the earpiecies, you won't hear it and will miss your call. So unless you're settled with wearing the earpieces all the time or turn your the volume of your Athena up (urgh!!!) This headset is not for the Athena.

No vibration is a BIG MINUS... How can any one settle with the loud sound (still too loud at minimum) notification from Athena... Another cool lanyard headset solution to use with this headset is the Philips SHE7600. Fry's electronics is selling the white version of it for $20 but I guess the black version can be order online.
