Hello everyone,
I just have a simple question for the experts here at XDA, who by the way I give my greatest thanks to for being so on top of things and providing such an amazing resource to the Hermes user community.

What does upgrading the radio on my device actually DO?

Does it give better battery life? Better reception? (I honestly don't believe I'll use GPS, but I guess I'd want to know if it does that as well) What changes are there from version 1.03.03.10 (that's the version I have, the version that came with the phone).

I know there are always possible consequences for upgrading the radio, I just want some details in plain English so that I can do a cost-benefit assessment for myself seeing if the risk is worth the gain.

Thanks in advance!
Respectfully,
-cyberstraz

i think it's just control of the radio hardware, (phone, wifi, etc) so presumably a higher(newer) number is better.

do you have a hermes? i remeber reading that the gps hardware is inbuilt but not connected so that it works, or to that effect anyway, so you would still need the bt reciever.

anyway the question has been asked a few times before, google - what does radio do? or similar and look in all the radio threads for all devices ther'e sure to be a better answer.

I had the same Radio version as you and I just recently upgraded to the most recent version (1.38.00.10).

I noticed a slight increase in battery life as well as RF performance. Nothing drastic, but enough to make it worthwhile. You don't need to bother installing the radio with gps functionality, as the GPS will not work without serious internal modifications.

I installed Super CID, then Hard SPL, then the radio update, and had no problems what so ever. No data or programs were lost.

I'm a noob here, but found the site and users to be very helpful and managed to do all the updates with about 4 or 5 hours of reading beforehand (keep in mind this is my first time doing any updates to my phone).

So I'd say, go for it!
