This guide was written a long time ago. I recommend people to use this more up to date guide:
Wizard Windows Mobile 6 for newbies (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Wizard%20Windows%20Mobile%206%2 0for%20newbies)

I've got a lot of post behind my name, but most of my posts are answers to the same questions over and over again. It seems very hard for "noobs" to find the answer to their question quickly on the forum. I quickly wrote a little step by step tutorial for them. Hope it helps!

Suggestions or corrections are always welcome.

You want to flash your wizard, but don't know where to start. Try this:

0. First determine if you got a G3 or a G4 device. When you turn on your device from can can see you're IPL and SPL version on the screen. If you got IPL/SPL 1.xx or 2.xx you've got a G3 device. If the IPL/SPL shows 2.xx.xxx1 you've got a G4. Go to step G3.1 if you got a G3 and G4.1 if G4.

G3.1 Does you're device start normally (yes) or is it stuck on the three-colored bootloader screen (no)? YES... go to step G3.5, NO go to step G3.2

G3.2 Turn off you're device totaly. Remove the SD card and disconnect the USB cable from you're device. Turn on the device while holding the camera button. You will get into bootloader mode (3 colored screen). Connect the USB cable to the computer and you will see USB at the bottom of your screen above the left softkey (Activesync will not connect in bootloader mode, but you can flash from this screen!). If you got IPL/SPL 1.xx go to G3.3. If you got 2.xx go to G3.4

G3.3 Download button rom (http://rapidshare.com/files/18212239/CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe.h tml) and flash it to your device. Your device should startup again after doing this. Go to G3.5.

G3.4 Download wizard_love rom (http://rapidshare.com/files/17792050/Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2.rar) and flash it to your device. Your device should startup again after doing this. Go to G3.5.

G3.5 Is your device CID-unlocked (note: it's not the same as SIM-unlocked!)? YES... go to step G3.7, NO OR DON'T KNOW go to step G3.6.

G3.6 Follow this great thread by Dr Puttingham: The Definitive Guide to Unlocking & Rom Upgrading G3 Wizards (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435). Don't skip step 17! Flash the T-Mobile 2.26 Rom! Go to step G3.8 if you got the T-Mobile rom with IPL/SPL 2.26 on your device after doing this.

NOTE: Some people seem to have problem with flashing the button rom in this step (stops at 98% with error 302). Replace button_rom with Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102 (http://rapidshare.com/files/43423464/Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102.exe) and follow the rest of the steps normally when this happens!

G3.7 Download T-Mobile 2.26 rom (http://rapidshare.com/files/38880130/ruu_prodigy_226102_22610105_022511_tmous_wwe_ship. exe.html) and flash it to your device! Done? Go to step G3.8.

G3.8 You're reade to flash the AKU2, AKU3, WM6 rom of you're choise! It wasn't that hard, was it? If you still got an older OS version after flashing then you're not CID-unlocked! Go back to start!

------------------------------------

G4.1 Does you're device start normally (yes) or is it stuck on the three-colored bootloader screen (no)? YES... go to step G4.4, NO go to step G4.2

G4.2 Turn off you're device totaly. Remove the SD card and disconnect the USB cable from you're device. Turn on the device while holding the camera button. You will get into bootloader mode (3 colored screen). Connect the USB cable to the computer and you will see USB at the bottom of your screen above the left softkey (Activesync will not connect in bootloader mode, but you can flash from this screen!). go to G4.3

G4.3 Download wizard_love rom (http://rapidshare.com/files/17792050/Wizard_Love_2.26.10.2_WWE_Novii_CF2.rar) and flash it to your device. Your device should startup again after doing this. Go to G4.4.

G4.4 Is your device CID-unlocked (note: it's not the same as SIM-unlocked!)? YES... go to step G4.7, NO OR DON'T KNOW go to step G4.5. (note: CID-unlocking a G4 is only possible by paying for it at imei-check (http://www.imei-check.co.uk/m3000unlock.php)!)

G4.5 Download enable-rapi.zip (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=46098&d=1186268099). Transfer Cert_SPCS.cab and EnableRapi.cab to your phone. Run Cert_SPCS.cab FIRST and EnableRapi.cab SECOND. Turn your device off and on or wait 5 minutes before soft resetting. Done? Go to G4.6.

G4.6 Follow this great thread by the-equinoxe: [solution] G4 SoftSPL Flash any ROM to CID locked G4 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329147) and load the softSPL on your device using his method. Make sure you take a G4 safe rom (see the thread for details). After the steps you'll have the rom of your choise on your device!

[U]G4.7 You're reade to flash the AKU2, AKU3, WM6 rom of you're choise IF the rom DOESN'T contain IPL/SPL. AKU3 and WM6 roms normally don't contain IPL/SPL. If you want to flash an AKU2 rom, make sure you take the G4 version. If you get an error 300 (invalid update tool) while trying to flash your device look at this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=291215) thread!

NOTE: If you tried to flash a G3 rom with IPL/SPL in the rom on a G4 you probably will have a bricked device! DON'T flash the new 3.08 and 3.09 IPL/SPL to your G4!

NOTE2: If you got problems flashing with softSPL: Follow this great thread by mun_rus: Solutuion found: how to flash any rom to CIDLOCKED DEVICE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=293480). If your device won't start after flashing you can use step G4.2 and G4.3 and try again. Also look at this thread by eddieitman: Faria G4 Step by step installer with instructions (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298967) to make sure you did all the necessary steps!

Nice one.

One thing I've found is since the Mods split the WM6 stuff to a seperate forum a lot of noobs are in that forum and they don't see the stickies over here now (I've had a couple PM me directly asking where this Wizard Upgrading forum is at that I refer to in my posts  ). So I think we need some stickies like this or something in the WM6 forum (or a sticky at the top of that forum with a pointer to this forum and maybe certain posts over here).

I found this solution much better than shelltool for flashing my G4 CID-locked Wizard:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043

Shelltool can only flash the OS while using this modified RUU you can task the OS, splash screen, and the radio. Plus this modified RUU will also flash Wizards that do not bootup normally.

You can't flash a touched OS that way in a CID-locked G4.... only some 2.26 roms will work. Trying this with WM6 will go to 100%, but you're "old" OS will startup again.

SIM Unlocking only allows you to use SIMs from a different carrier on your phone.

CID Unlocking allows you to flash different Carrier / Country roms on your phone.

If you are only CID Unlocked, you can flash Tmobile, Cingular, Qtek, etc on your phone, but your device will still connect to the same carrier that your SIM is setup for. So for me, I'm on Cingular. I flashed the TMobile 2.26 ROM and I have the complete TMobile look and feel, but my carrier and phone connection was still Cingular since thats what the SIM is for.

I always flash the TMobile 2.26 rom on my phone now before upgrading to a new custom ROM. Its more stable (IMO) than the CIngular 2.25 (at least numerous issues I used to have went away by doing this, but then the custom ROM may be really fixing that, but I like having the latest IPL/SPL for my base).

As always... YMMV

Good question.... have you flashed T-Mobile rom before? If you haven't you will get the strong 2.26 IPL/SPL. It prevents many problems! This step is to prevent people to upgrade to WM6 with other IPL/SPL!

You want to downgrade so that it cleans up things that are possibly left from a previous install. The Official ROMs have everything (IPL / SPL / OS / Radio / Extended ROM / etc). If you go straight from a custom rom to another custom rom you may find you have stuff left over because the new custom rom doesn't clean up everything. I've seen where things are left in the message queue, so you start getting pop errors about not finding something when that was on the previous ROM.

While it takes extra time, flashing back to an official rom gives you a clean base for the custom rom to work off of. Well worth it for me so I always do this. Takes an extra 15 mins or so, which is better than wasting a day chasing some issue that wouldn't have been there.

BTW: Congrats on getting your post promoted to a Sticky! :)

Is it also recommended that a downgrade to T-Mobile 2.26 is followed for unlocked G4 phones?

Good question. I don't have a G4, but I'd think the same would hold true to get a stable / clean base for the new custom rom.

NO! that rom has IPL/SPL in it. Don't try flashing this rom onto a G4! It could brick your device!

Hi Vippie,

Can you please update the first post so that when you tell people to get to the bootloader screen that Activesync will NOT connect, but if it says USB above the left softkey that it is connected? This is something I've had to tell people over and over. People see that activesync doesn't connect so they stop and don't go any further.

Thanks! And again, excellent work on this guide. I'm pointing people to this now as I like how its laid out and gives G3 and G4 info in one place (since so many newbies don't think its important to tell us what they have or anything) ;)

BTW: Has this been put into the Wiki?

Thanks vippie,

I purchased an I-mate K-jam (off that big auction site ;) ) and it had an old I-mate ROM on it. I wanted to update the ROM so I took a couple of days searching around the internet and found a couple of sites that explained the process and I started in on the update. Much to my dismay somthing went seriously wrong and the phone would just sit at the loading screen and reboot for hours. Every once in awhile it would finally load up Windows, but it ran VERY sluggishly and I could not place any calls on it.

This all happend close to a year ago now, and I have been trying to (unsuccessfully) flash the ROM since then. Just a couple of days ago I stumbled on the XDA forums and your post. I followed the instructions in this and Dr. Puttingham's post and 2 hours later I was making calls, sending text messages, surfing the internet and reading email, all on my K-jam!!!

Thanks to you and Dr. Puttingham I am no longer beinging ridiculed by my friends and wife for bricking my phone!!!

You 2 guys are the greatest.

Sorry for the newbie question but when I flash the T-Mobile 2.26 rom does this give me the Radio v2.25.11 from the leaked Test T-Mobile (US) 2.24 AKU 2.3 Rom so then I will have to go and reflash the Radio v2.25.11 from the leaked Cingular 2.25 AKU 2.2 Rom? Thanks for reading!

The TMobile 2.26 ROM comes with the TMobile 2.25 Radio which is different than the Cingular 2.25 Radio. So yes, if you want the Cingular one, you would need to flash the Radio Only update from the ftp area to switch. I've never ran the TMo 2.25 Radio but I've heard from numerous people here that the Cingular 2.25 Radio "works better" (on WM5 at least). None of the radios above 2.19 on WM6 in my (and many others) experience work well.

Sorry, this doesn't help, but thats one of the reasons I'm not rushing to upgrade to some new and unknown IPL/SPL (newer isn't always better). Wouldn't surprise me if there are other issues here.

So based on the step you list, you are a G4... You may be in new territory here, and you really need to be careful as G4's seem easier to brick due to IPL/SPL issues. Not good if Wizard Love doesn't work as that has always been the "cure all" for G4's... I might suggest you post in the G4 forum as this may need to be tracked and watched and thats a good place for G4 issues.

Can you flash any ROM when you are at the RBG tri-color boot loader screen? I don't like to use an Active Sync conection and was just wondering if this was OK to do. Thanks for reading.

vippie
8th April 2007, 12:43 PM
I don't think there's a problem flashing roms from the bootloader screen. When flashing the "normal" way it also does that after the RUU closes activesync. In my opinion just use the activesync method because I don't see any advantage to flash from the bootloader screen.

fryman
8th April 2007, 04:46 PM
Thanks for the advice. There is not any advantage...I just wanted to install ROMs from work without having to install activesync. It will work from the boot loader screen but only after you have installed activesync once so that windows recognizes your device and install the drivers...before you install it once it wil give you an error and you can't even open the utility.

I would re-download a copy of the same ROM you used and re-flash, just to be on the safe side. If the touchscreen took input before, you likely have a slightly corrupt install causing the problem.

Hi every1,

Regarding G3.2:

"G3.2 Turn off you're device totally. If you got 2.xx go to G3.4"

Red-green-blue boot-screen flash process (soft-resetting while holding down the side-wise "Camera" key) might not work under Windows Vista/Windows Mobile Device Center (WMDC) and Cingular 8125, regardless of CID unlock status, WMDC USB enable/disable settings (mentioned in regard to an emergency miniSD card ROM restore procedure), Windows Firewall settings, WMDC process status, etc. Dropping down to Windows XP SP2 and Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 works immediately, installing "Pocket USB Sync" driver upon connection. ActiveSync will not connect in boot loader mode, but you can download the latest ROM image updater from Cingular's web site, and run it (or, if you have an uncompressed version, the ROMUpdateUtility.exe - RUU).

How about more detail? Is this a G3 or G4? I assume you've downgraded since you are saying IPL 1.08 (and that would also indicate a G3). What does it do when you try to put it in bootloader? Does the phone not boot at all, or doesn't get to where you can use it?

I truly mean that I am ignorant, :o I am seldom post in forums, or ask for assistance that way. I appreciate your patience, and willingness to help. :D
Let me see...I purchased the phone on e-bay, I really wanted a cool new phone but didn't want to get trapped into a provider contract in order to afford it. I have been stuck with Sprint PCS for over 2 years and I truly detest their service and coverage. Anyway, I saw this phone and loved it, along with the phone I purchased a Socket GPS unit that supposedly will track my whereabouts. When I received the phone it did not have a sim card, I began thinking I have made a huge mistake, I began looking for information for the T-Mobile MDA, I removed the battery and noticed it is a Wizard 200, surfed more and I was enlightend that it is a HTA Wizard 200 then I happened across this fabulous website. I have not done anything with the phone besides power it up and play with the menus. Under the battery it has the IMEI #, S/N#, P/N#99HBH044-01 T03, (is that it?) below those it says WIZA200. When I attempt to bootloader it just turns on the camera. I hope this gives you the info you need to assist.
I truly appreciate your time, after all of the things I have read here, I am once again truly anticipating getting this thing going.
Sincerely, Mo

Yes. However, getting it into bootloader is just the beginning of my questions. I don't know which HTC I have, I would assume the person I purchased it from has not done any tweaking to it, I believe it has the original rom it came with. I am attempting to unlock the device, first of all I don't have a SIM card in it.
Beginning with the unit OFF I push the power and camera button at the same time to get into bootloader mode, it powers up in camera mode, there is not a tri color screen.

Are u sure you're not in standby mode when you try (keep holding the OFF button until the device asks to shutdown)? When it's completely off and you power it on it shows IPL/SPL version on you're screen. What version have you got?

There is no way a phone that is truely turned off will boot into camera mode.

I have the current TMo 2.6 rom flashed and trying to downgrade so I can unlock my G3 MDA then flash it to a custom rom of my choice but the button rom flash seems to fail every time I try it.

I tried it once, tired it twice, and the third time still was a no-go. It locks up at 98% on the phone though it "finishes" on the computer. The phone will turn back on but only to "boot loader" mode.

Any help? What, if anything, can I do?

mine also hanged at 98 % doing that, it stayed that for about 4 munites and then went further, that's the only thing i know...
maybye you can first load a manufacturer rom and then try it again with the button rom.
make sure to use the right versions as explained by faria, it worked for me!
and also make sure that it's CID unlocked!!!

The button rom flash is the first step to unlocking to allow custom roms. I did however reflash it to the current TMo rom before I tried it the second and thrid time. Let it sit last night and it drained the battery before it finished the flash. Still stuck at 98%. It's charging again, I can only assume it is as it is stuck in bootloader screen currently.

... got it to work, somehow ...

I recently bought a Cingular 8125 off of eBay. Not unlocked or anything, but that's okay, since my service it with Cingular anyways. I've had the phone a few days, and I love it . Now that I've stumbled upon this site, I'm excited to play around with upgrading it. But I have a few questions first.

First of all, are there any real advantages to upgrading? From what I've read, some ROMs are more stable/less buggy than others (for example, everyone seems keen on the tMobile 2.6 ROM). I've seen some threads about flashing WM6, and the new slick look looks really nice, but are there any REAL advantages to WM6 over WM5?
If I DO upgrade to WM6, will I lose any functionality? For instance, I remember reading that some of the early WM6 ROMs did not include or somehow messed up the camera functionality. It just seems that since these ROMs aren't from the companies which distribute the phones, there might be minor issues with things like slight hardware differences, etc....
I downloaded the likowiz software, and ran it per the instructions which accompanied it, but it really seemed TOO easy. Is there any way that I can check to see if it really did anything? I performed both a CID unlock and a 'regular' unlock (for lack of a better distinction), but it all went by so quickly that I don't know if it really did anything. Can I somehow check the status of the CID and other lock?
Do I have pretty good chances of bricking my phone by doing this? I'm pretty comfortable flashing ROMs from my old phone (I had a Motorola Razr), but this one cost me a lot more and I would really rather let well enough alone if I have a good chance of bricking it.
If I DO decide to proceed with a WM6 reflash, does anyone have any input on which version to use? There seem to be several versions on the wizard wiki (mUm's, faria's, Most Beautiful, Underground). Are there any key differences? Everyone on the "Most Beautiful" thread seemed to think it was the way to go, but I'm just wondering...

By the way, thanks for all of the great work that goes into this forum. :) I have yet to even scratch the surface, but the ammount of information here is really impressive!

P.S. Here's the info which comes up when I boot the phone - just in case it might influence any input someone might have for me. From what I've read this mean's it's a G3, right? :

ILP: 2.25
SPL: 2.25
GSM: 02.25.11
OS: 2.25.11.1

Hi, im a newbie so please be patient.
I have succesfully flashed a couple of roms using shelltool which i belive is safe for my wizard G4 cid locked.
I dont want to end having a bricked phone since i live in argentina and i have no chance to change it for a new one since it is not being sell in here.

I had to install several times the Wizard Love rom which always brings my phone back to life. Since it uses the RUUinstaller it has flashed the HTC logo succesfully.

The problem is every time i restart the phone it shows the Wizard Love HTC logo. I would like to change it, but shelltool is not capable of that, and i dont want to screw up the IPL/SPL thing.

Can i find a tutorial, giving step by step instructions of how to flash an HTC logo on a CID locked G4.

Im using the Xplore 1.1 rom which i find great.

Thanks

Yes.... you can cook you're own splash rom, but make sure you fully understand what you're doing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=271043

Other option is to flash one others made for you:

If you didn't downgrade to button's rom, then you're still CID-locked! Make sure you take all the steps from this post or it won't work. Read read and reread on this forum for all your other questions.

Thanks vippie,
my G4 is cid-locked, when i run the updater, it says Error 300 Wronge update tool or something like that.
I guess it happends because it is Cid-Locked. I dont want to pay 30 bucks to get it unlocked, i can live without a pretty splash screen, nevertheless, i still do not understand how can Wizard Love flash the splash screen.

The TMobile 2.19 UK radio will work just fine anywhere in the US (and is really about the only choice for Cingular customers that are trying to run WM6 on their phones as the other radios all seem to cause missed calls and sms messages.

So just flash the TMobile 2.19 UK radio ontop of this rom and you will be good to go...

sounds like the one you are trying to run isn't using the noid version of the RUU. Find another rom (like XPlore or Faria's) and if its a .exe, change it to a .rar (or sometimes .zip) and then extract teh files. There should be a noid version of the rom update utility in there. You can then put that file into the splash screen update and it should work (don't change any other files, just the rom update utility noid .exe file)

In a few hours I will be gone most of the evening due to activities with my family. You can download the radio roms from the ftp site right here (see other threads for links if you don't know how to do that). Then its merely running the program and it will flash the new radio onto your phone. But again, you only need to do this if you are upgrading to a WM6 rom (the Ciingular 2.25 radio works just fine on WM5 roms).

Since you are new to the device, I personally would suggest you maybe try out the default WM5 that comes with the phone for a week just so you get a feel for the phone. Then look at upgrading. Also gives you time to read up on the sticky threads so you know what type of device you have and how you need to do upgrades (so you don't brick your brand new phone).

Be careful and have fun!

Turn the phone off (pull the battery if you have to) and then hold down the camera key and then turn the phone on. It should go into boot loader. Now flash an official rom like the T-Mobile one. If that doesn't work, try flashing the Wizard Love rom... Also you need to tell us if you have a G3 or G4 (I assume G3 since you were trying the Button rom) and what your IPL / SPL currently show when you put it in bootloader (if you still have issues).

Good luck...

Hi,

I have IPl 2.17 and SPL 2.17; so a G3 device.

[[ I did this step ]] G3.2 Turn off you're device totaly.

- - in fact , I can just start my phone and enter bootloader mode as I had problem when flashing earlier on.

G3.4 Download wizard_love rom and flash it to your device. Your device should startup again after doing this. Go to G3.5.

in fact when I do G3.4 step and flash it, I get error [300] invalid update tool (it is in spanish).

I am completely stuck; I tried to kill activesync and not but nothing does it.
Did anyone ran into same problem? please help if you can. Thanks

Cheers,
GG

Since you stated you had an issue with a previous flash, I would recommend instead of doing WizardLove that you do your phone's official ROM. This will get you back to a known working state. Then you can proceed from there.

I've got a lot of post behind my name, but most of my posts are answers to the same questions over and over again. It seems very hard for "noobs" to find the answer to their question quickly on the forum. [...]
Suggestions [...] welcome. [...]
G3.5 Is your device CID-unlocked (note: it's not the same as SIM-unlocked!)? YES... go to step G3.7, NO OR DON'T KNOW go to step G3.6.

The one thing this tutorial asks the user to assess but does not say (or link to, as it is probably explained in many places but hard to find, just as you wrote):

How does one figure out whether a Wizard is CID-unlocked?
Other than by trying to flash (or even to CID-unlock) it, that is...
(of course there is a "DON'T KNOW" branch in the above instructions, leading to steps 13 et seq. in Dr Puttingham's guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285435), but otherwise how does one get to know?)

BTW, "CID(-unlocked)" could certainly positively be defined (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Acronyms) (rather than "not SIM"), as yet another lesser-known and intimidating acronym? ;)

Crossbow Reloaded 1.5 was my first attempt at Flashing my G3 Wizard. I've been roaming around here for months waiting to get up the nerve and I finally did it last night. As per instructions, I followed each and every step of the definitive guide, took all of mfrazzz' advice and was careful not to skip a step or take a shortcut.

I had absolutely NO problems whatsoever. My IPL switched but my SPL didn't so I just flashed it again and everything was grand.

I am now using Crossbow and it's awesome. This ROM is loaded with all of the quality tools i like and it's not bulky at all. I was surprised how much was crammed in for it to have as much space as it did.

All I have to say is HUGE thanks to mfrazzz, faria and Dr Puttingham (and everyone else out there who works to put these things together in their spare time and then gives them freely to schumcks like me). This OS is awesome.

So here's my next question: Where do I go from here? Should I start thinking about cooking my own ROM? I'd like to be a valuable member of the community and not just leech off of everyone else's hard work. If you have any suggestions, just PM me. I'm not trying to hijack this thread or anything. Just wanted to say thanks!

I bought my T-Mobile MDA Vario a few weeks ago (secondhand). Apparently it had already been flashed by its previous owner to a sim/cid unlocked Qtek rom (ipl/spl 1.3). After searching, reading, re-reading and considering the possible risks, I decided it was time to try and flash the device to something a bit more up-to-date.

Yesterday I went through the different steps of two tutorials to unlock the thing (bettter to be safe), then downgraded to 1.05, next upgraded to the T-Mobile 2.26. And on each instance: not a single problem, glitch or hiccup.

So... today I decided to really take the plunge, and I installed mfrazzz/Faria's WM6; again success from the first try.

What I wanted to say: great guides/tutorials, they really helped a n00b ppc owner (the MDA is my first ever).
Thanks people!

I highly recommend (and do it myself) to always flash back to an official rom before upgrading to a custom one. It gives you a clean base for the new rom and also will fix extended rom corruption (if you have that) which has been show to cause severe battery drain.

So personally its worth the extra time. I flash the T-Mo 2.26 and then do a soft reset just before it starts to run the extended rom (so when the window comes up saying its going to configure the phone in 3 secs, so you have to be fast). After the soft reset completes, then I flash the custom rom.

As always... YMMV

A friend of mine has this same issue. His phone won't go into bootloader (just seems to turn off) when his SD card is in. His is a nice 1GB Sandisk card even. His card seems to work just fine, it just causes issues with bootloader / flashing. He continues to use his, but he does take backups of things on it periodically now as we don't know if its going to go out or not (but its been this way for 2 months now).

Maybe its the altitude here... ;)

Can I just ask quickly...

I was going to install my latest O2 XDA ROM (v2.21.4.101), but thought I would check on here something first.

You mention in Step 17 to download the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM after unlocking?? Do you HAVE TO DO THIS?? Or is it optional?

I'm worried about installing a T-Mobile ROM on my O2 phone!!

Will I need to CID unlock to even upgrade my own O2 ROM?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

If you are talking about an official O2 XDA ROM then you do not need to CID Unlock or anything. Just flash it as its made for your device. You only have to CID unlock if you are going to flash custom roms (or roms from other carriers).

And the purpose of flashing the T-Mobile 2.26 before flashing a custom rom is to give you a known stable base. It doesn't lock you into T-Mobile as a carrier, its just a known and decent stable OS. (but again, you don't need to do this if you are talking about an offical O2 rom).

Hi, iam totaly a newbie at rom upgrades. I relly like to change the rom of my XDA mini s. There a lot of releases for my device and i know there no Perfect one and for finding the one that suits to you it needs a lot of testings. I just want to know which roms are best for me to start with and if someone haves time i like some desctiptions for each rom (Advantages and disadvantages of each one)

Descriptions for each rom would take a long time.. lol. Best thing you can do is compare and contrast for yourself by checking out the threads for each upgrade offerend.

Hi all,
I am new and am trying to be very careful on my device.

I am trying to execute stage 3.. button's 1.05 ROM from Dr Puttingham list but its taking ages. With the wizard connected via the USB cable, I double clicked the CUSTOM__RUU_Wizard_1050412_WWE_101_11210_WWE.exe file through windows explorer window. This brings up a dos shell window and the cursor jumps around the shell window(visual effect I assume). It has been doing this for over 3 to 4 hours now. How long should this take. I read somewhere that it should take 15 minutes.

Am I executing this file correctly? Should I be placing the file onto the device and execute it from the Wizard?

Thanks for any ones help.

You are right it should not take that long...normally 15 minutes would be about max. you also should not see a dos shell...you do run the ROM Update Utility (RUU) from your PC not your phone. Are you sure u have a G3 device and that you are following Dr. P's thread on how to unlock a G3 wizard?

Hi fryman,

Yes I have double and tipple checked that it is a G3 device. I have been trying to follow Dr. P's tread to the letter.

I have also now found out that because my device is an O2 Mini S device that its is already unlocked and therefore I can go straight to Flashing it wit WM6.

It sound to easy!!!!!

Is that correct?

I upgraded with the official O2 ROM, v2. something, selected CORPORATE and it runs so much faster now, I would suggest doing this if you're unsure like I was.

Also I've put on there some custom Apps to make the usage of the phone much easier :)

Is there a problem with Wizard upgrading files at the moment? And if so, where can I get the proper files please? Firstly when I try to download the upgrade utility I get a 550 CANNOT CHANGE DIRECTORIES to the QTEK directory. I can download what I think are all the proper files from Rapidshare but the ROM update Utility which is supposed to be for the SPL 2.26 executes in Italian and then errors on a 'try later file' message (I THINK 'piu' means later file?).

So I tried downgrading to button.rom before upgrading again with your ROM in place but it told me that it couldnt find the PDA device. (I have a fresh install of XP with no AntiVirus)

(I do have the latest version T-Mobile software on this MDA) The only thing I haven't tried yet, - because it says it shouldn't be necessary, - is to download the 3.08 IPL/SPL from RapidShare. I am really not sure about trying this as I don't have 3.08 on the unit??

I dont think I am such a newbie at all this as to be so frightened by the process as to get something obvious wrong? I have successfully and easily unlocked a Siemens SX56 which was locked to Cingular before upgrading to this Wizard

licensedtoquill
30th May 2007, 02:19 AM
FINALLY it worked with the 3.08.

I seem to have been wrong in thinking that it might be wrong if I only had 2.26 on the MDA.

It does seem to be a stable version of which people need not be afraid. it is certainly better than the Italian version! And I rebooted, chchdsk'd and deleted temporary files

Now I can go on to load the software and check which VoIP app I should use.

Incidentally I would be intrigued to know why builders are deleting the VoIP apps from their lists? (not sure how to load a cab file as an app??)

I flashed my unlocked G3 quite a few times, but now I have a rom which is a nk.nbf file. How do I flash this file? I searched the forums here with the forum search and through google and I found some people use something called Shelltool, but I also find many users running into problems using it and I think if I read correctly only G4 users have to use this tool. What is the best way for me to flash nk.nbf?

You can use the RUU(ROM Update Utility)
On the xda ftp site go to /Uploads/WIZARD/Roms_Bootscreens/WM6_Splash_Wizard_NOID.rar

Download the file and just remove the nk.nbf in the folder and replace it with the one you want. Than run the ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe

You really need to give more info. G3/G4? Did you CID-unlock successfully? If it's a G3, you can't upgrade from wizard_love, but you need t-mobile 2.26 IPL/SPL. Follow all the steps carefully.

vippy, thanks for the reply and the informative thread..
after a bunch of trys, the phone finally connected to AS and i was able to load the button rom, however, after loading the button rom (for the purpose of unlocking the phone), the phone would not reboot after using the lokiwiz 0.2b unlocking program.. so, because i was stuck with the button rom, i decided to load the t-mobile 2.26 rom back on the phone and just load all my cab's back on, while setting up that rom, i descovered that i actually loaded xeleine's 2.26 cooked rom.. i guess that has an unlocker built in and it loaded so i must be CID unlocked.. i know im already SIM unlocked.. now the million dollar question to you is.. if i have 2.26 (cooked) loaded on the phone, can i just go straight to loading a WM6 rom? also, is there a program to check locked / unlocked status? thanks again!

vippie
3rd July 2007, 11:21 PM
If you did have an IPL 1.x AND a SPL 1.x when you ran lokiwiz than you're CID-unlocked. If not I think you should try again. There's no easy way to check as far as I know. Lokiwiz telling it's unlocked isn't something to take seriously. Flashing a 2.26 rom neither, because most 2.26 roms flash fine on a CID-locked device. When you flash WM6 to a CID-locked device it will not override the OS and WM5 will load afterwards.

vippie,
I apologize as you must see this time and time again.

I need a nudge. EVERYTIME I try to load Button ROM, I get to 98% on 8125.
It is extremely frustrating. I have read [literally] a dozen threads plus the wiki plus scanned the FTP site, all to no avail. Any ideas?

Cingular 8125. WM5 works. Wizard Love worked. T-Mobile 2.26 worked.
It's when I try to load Button ROM that I hit a wall. It gets stuck every time!
I always cold boot between attempts. I even pull the 8125 battery too.

I thought about using the shelltool, but I could not find a working link.

Here's what I have under Device information (on last go around with Cingular):
ROM ver. 2.25.11.1 WWE
ROM date 5/11/06
Radio ver. 02.25.11
Protocol ver. 4.1.13.12
ExtROM ver. 2.25.11.102

It is a Cingular 8125, G3 I believe (no 000's), CID locked. (The problem)

Any ideas on how (& where) to find a alternate 1.xx ROM so I can use the Loki app? Thanks, Johann

Guys, strangest thing happend...

I had a G3 SPL/IPL 2.17

So i followed the thread tutorial step-by-step and downloaded the proper things from the thread.

So, i went to G3.4 and downloaded the wizard_love rom.

But, it was in Spanish or somethin' and it was not suitable for me said the dialog of the program.

So, i downloaded button rom and succefully flashed my phone.

Then, the tutorial says to flash it with T-Mobile 2.26 rom.

But, when i try to do it, it says it is not suitable for my version.

What to do now, anyone knows?

My current specs are:

Follow the steps in the thread I just mentioned if you want to CID-unlock, but I think you should do some more reading before you try again.

If you want to go back to the old WM5 and wizard_love rom fails you can flash the rom from your carrier website.

Did you flash the button rom once, or more than once? You have to read and follow every single step of the thread on CID unlocking.

I think I turned the love of my life, my Tmobile MDA/Wizard into a brick!

I was doing really good. I had just installed that jazzy iphone theme and it was working perfectly. Then someone in another forum suggested I flash my rom so I can get better performance. (The theme did slow things down a bit). I was on a cloud because I managed to get through installing this theme without screwing up my phone so I said, heck....I can follow instructions and flash my rom. Boy, was I wrong.

I decided to go with Faria G4 Step by step installer with instructions by Eddieitman. I went to Tmobile website, downloaded the latest ROM and commenced with following the instructions. I flashed through shelltools and it only took 2 minutes not the 15+ minutes but I assumed this was because I already have the most current ROM on Tmobiles site. I went to hard reset as instructed but I accidently let go of one of the buttons before it was time and lost my phone. Now I get nothing. When I try to power on, it gets as far as the Tmobile screen with those tiny grey square boxes. The only way I can power it down is to take out battery. I tried doing that win love thing. I am able to get to the 3 color screen by powering on and holding the camera button.

Can anyone help me? I really dont know a thing about flashing ROMS but I have tinkered with my phone and computer for years. I've always been able to read directions and be successful. This one has me stumped.

Thanks,

Deidre

G4.2 Turn off you're device totaly. Remove the SD card and disconnect the USB cable from you're device. Turn on the device while holding the camera button. You will get into bootloader mode (3 colored screen). Connect the USB cable to the computer and you will see USB at the bottom of your screen above the left softkey (Activesync will not connect in bootloader mode, but you can flash from this screen!). go to G4.3

G4.3 Download wizard_love rom and flash it to your device. Your device should startup again after doing this. Go to G4.4.
------------

Don't think your wizard is bricked. You can still revive it with wizard_love. If this doesn't work try your carriers rom (from their website).

I did try wizard love and my carriers rom and nothing has worked. Unless I am doing it wrong. I tried a couple of different ways. First I just ran that newromupdate utility (which btw is in a foreign language) and I get the error RomUpdateUtility MFC Application has stopped working and my only option is to close the program. I also tried moving that nk.nbf file into the same directory as my shelltools and run shelltools and nothing happens. I waited almost an hour last night and nothing happened. I also notice that my computer doesnt even show that my phone is connected? Normally when I go into my computer I can see my phone but now I cant. I hope I am explaining this all correctly.

Thanks,

Deidre

When you're at the bootloader screen and connect the USB cable... do you see "USB" on the bottom of your screen? Have you got activesync installed (for the driver?) Maybe you are using vista? The RUU only works on XP. I think you are because I thought vista throws this error. Revive it on XP! You can also make a xp virtual machine with vmware.

You can't flash a touched OS that way in a CID-locked G4.... only some 2.26 roms will work. Trying this with WM6 will go to 100%, but you're "old" OS will startup again.

i have that same problem but with a G3 with 2.26 and my old rom starts up...how do i fix it??

i have the same problem using G3. I've tried going down to button's 1.05 then to 2.26 WM5 then to WM6 (TNT 4.0 and NBD 8.0) but it keeps the old ROM and WM5. I've flashed this thing 10 times already but no success. Is there a secret on how to get it to WM6??

Nope, you aren't. It confusing that lokiwiz allways gives this message. If your old OS shows up after flash.... CID-locked! Have you gotten both IPL and SPL to 1.x when flashing button rom?

I got the IPL to 1.x by using button 1.05 and tried flashing again and a 3rd time but the SPL wouldn't go down to 1.x.
a little strange....

I'll try the CID unlock again and see if anything better happens...

*edit - i think i wasn't downgrading to button 1.05 first before doing the lokiwiz unlock. that part is a bit confusing on the unlock thread as it tells you how to unlock it but not that it needs to be on the button 1.05 rom. i hope this is my problem!

Love rom saved the day. That's my safety rom. I just used shelltool with the NBD 8.1 rom and it worked on my Wizard G4! Seems like it's never a quick process to get a new rom fully loaded on a phone for me, but maybe just because I do so much time reading. Well it was worth it. Now I've successfully but NBD on 2 G3 Wizards and a G4. (The process is different for each)

Rom ver 1.1.9.3
Rom date 9/16/05
Radio ver 01.01.10
Protocal ver 4.0.13.16
Ext Rom ver 1.1.9.105
IPL 1.01
SPL 1.06
GSM 01.01.10
OS 1.1.93
Sim unlocked certainly must have come unlocked from i-mate,as i can use diffe rent sims, but cid will be locked i haven't checked uptill now.

Well, with this ipl/spl do suggest i shud downgrade with button's rom or shud go straight for unlock with lokiwiz and upgrade to wm6 rom ?

Hi all there,
i updated my HTC TyTN (Herm200) - Vodafone Mobile Compact III 4 weeks ago sucessfully to WM6 (because i´am fed up with waiting till those sleepy heads from vodafone will release their´s). And till yesterday night everything was doing well. Then my machine stucked up while synching... Well i didn´t mind - an did a soft-reset... but wondering how - it didn´t "came up again" - it stucks at the start window of WM6??? Did i scrap my rom???? I followed all instructions from first page - but i am just able to get the three colored (bootloader) page - that´s all.... I sadly don´t reach point G3.3. My machine just won´t get flashed from three colored page. My PC is ALWAYS asking for activesync. Be sure - I REALLY DID ALL WHAT WAS WRITTEN ON FIRST PAGE - but it just doesn´t work. And after whole night spending time in trying to flash the ROM - i was hoping so much that this Tutorial will do the job because i read the following "(Activesync will not connect in bootloader mode, but you can flash from this screen!)"... But it doesn´t??? What to do??? I really need help - i´m used to this machine so much - I can´t imagine of waiting 2-3 weeks :( till it comes back from service...

you need to use your fucking time to download shelltool and flash it with that, to cid unlock your device you need to use lockiwiz, if u havent done anything your fon is surely locked, there is a tool called, mll.exe, something like that, maybe somebody else knows the name becuz i forgot, that tells wether your device is locked or not,

I started with a MDA from T-Mobile (US) with ROM 2.26.10.2 WWE 6/7/2006. I downloaded WM6r3.zip and ran the RUU. Everything seemed to work just fine, with everything happening just as the docs said, except for one tiny thing. After accepting to do the upgrade, the TO IMAGE was blank. I sorta overlooked this.

The progress bar moved fairly quickly from 0% to 99%, then stayed there for a while on both my XP and MDA devices. Then it went to 100%, and the MDA restarted.

Imagine my surprise to see the OS version remain the same! This is true for not only the initial power on screen, but in actual fact. It remains 2.26.10.2 WWE 6/7/2006.

WHat could I be doing wrong?

Thanks

If you have the same operating system after you flash using the RUU method then your device is not CID unlocked.

No, not after one year. You have to wait two years, befor you can call timo(I know that only from Germany, in other countries it is maybe different  ) to unlock your device for free.

Before you attempt to upgrade to this ROM, Please follow this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=324632 to learn how to flash roms, CID unlock your phone, and how to fix issues you may run into! It is also recommended that you flash your phone with a Windows XP computer and not Vista. It will work with Vista, but if you run into problems Vista can't talk to a phone in Bootloader mode!

within that thread in large font red is a caution to read and follow the instructions on how to unlock your phone. Follow that link and there is a 17 step procedure that just works very well and is straightforward, with the exception of the locwiz.exe extraction. I could get it to work properly only by unzipping it to the desktop, not the root directory of C:/. I posted this in that thread.

Ok, I have a quick question...

I am preparing to unlock my Wizard and I downloaded all the files and deleted my partnership, etc. All I want to do at this point is unlock it. I am going to upgrade it to one of the "Aftermarket" ROMS suggested on this site as soon as I figure out which one will give me the A2DP capability so I can connect to my Pioneer 9800BT stereo and play audio from my Wizard without using the audio jack.

Here's the question...

Step 17 says... My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM. This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.

If I flash with this TMobile ROM, will I still be on Cingular? If not, do I reflash with my carriers stock ROM or what? Or should I backup my ROM before I start this process? I don't have anything special installed on it so the stock ROM is fine with me! I had downloaded the stock ROM from HTC a while back so I have that, and I checked and it hasn't changed.

I can't believe they won't release an upgraded ROM for this phone!!! I spoke with HTC a few months ago and they said they were going to release a version with A2DP, but I guess they forgot!

Oh well, I really need to get this issue fixed so I don't hose up the audio jack again on this new unit!

Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated.

Quick answer :
Flashing a ROM won't change your service provider. You'll just have the base rom with Tmobile customisations (themes, apps)
Rom backup not necessary.
CID UNLOCK YOUR DEVICE !

Almost doesn't give any boost and sometimes causes problems, so you'd better stay with 2.26.

3.08 is supposed to create a faster boot up than 2.26. Other than that, it has no effect that I can find.

Hey sdl,

I was having the exact same problem. I think that when I ran lokiwiz the first time, It didn't fully unlock the phone and then I tried to flash which messed everything up. I couldn't do lokiwiz again, because the phone has to load to run enablerapi. (at least I think). After flashing button, wizard love and finally the factory rom. I was still stuck in the first flash screen. I finally tried the sdbackup utility which didn't work because the phone was still locked. I then had to pay for imie-check to unlock the phone. After running that to unlock the phone, I ran the SD backup utillity again, and as I am writing this, my phone is loading, I know it is frustrating, because it takes a lot of time to go through these threads. Now that my phone is unlocked and I have all of the files to recover, I will once again try to flash. Hope this helps.

I am still having the above problem. I cannot get my SPL down from 2.25. I have button flashed another 10-15 times. I tried Xda_MiniS_LaunchROM_v154102 with no luck. Someone please help me.

I am really disappointed that I can't get past the first step. Someone please help.

Hello. I have a Qtek 9100 (HTC Wizard) and update it to SPL/IPL 3.08, but i have a question, i have a G3 or G4?
Thanks for your answers and excuse me for my bad english.

joking...been studying. seriously when you reset your phone and the loader(the tri-color screen) is booting look at your IPL/SPL(sequence of letters and numbers at the top left of the screen). if they say something like 2.26 then you have a g3, however if it says something like 2.26.00.01 then you're a g4 and need to take extra (well not extra but separate) steps for flashing and so forth. CAUTION!!! DO NOT try methods intended for g3 especially in situations having ANYTHING to do with your IPL/SPL!!! Or like it is mentioned many, many, maaaaannnny times here you will end up with nothing but an expensive paperweight!!!

I followed all the instructions to the letter. I now have the lastest T mobile ROM on this device. Can someone please give me info. Thanks in advance.

hey which version of lokiwiz did you use? Because i had a similar situation b4 checking and finding out that if you have the MDA and ROM version 2.26 you're gonna need to use lokiwiz03 instead of lokiwiz02. try using that to redo the sim and CID unlock and maybe then you'll be able to Flash.

Hi, i have a problem!

I have unlocked my wizard (G3), all have worked fine. I have flashed WM6 carbonara edition and it worked fine, but it was slow, then i have flashed WM5se, and it worked fine too. Now i want to flash a new rom. I have tried with: TNT 5.0 TouchFlo, TNT 5.0 Pro+HTC Home, WM5se, WM5se_rev4, but nobody of these has worked! They give me an error (Update error, or invalid update tool, ecc) every time! I only can flash the unlock procedure Rom (T-Mobile 2.26, WizardLove, ButtonRom 1.05)!

WHY?!? How can i resolve this problem?! I would want flash XM6r3 or TNT 5.0 Pro+HTC Home or WM5se_rev4!

Now i'm with a normal Samsung phone :((((....PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!! :(((

Thank's and sorry for my english!!!

Hi,
I am a newbie and i read several times before i started flashing my t-mobile mda after backing up with wizbackup.zip. It is a G3 with IPL/SPL 2.26 ROM with the xda WM6 ROM. it went till 99% and then showed error302 first an update error. After i tried several times, now it is still on the bootloader tri-colored screen. and is showing connection error 264. I tried to start the phone with the camera, comm.manager button with the stylus reset. and i also tried removing the battery and then tried. I even tried Faria's recommendation of downloading the wizard_love ROM which is in french i believe and it also shows connection error 264 and then it exits. So can someone help me to get my t-mobile to function with a WM6? thankx

Hey Guys,

Im new to this whole rom thing, but this sticky made updating this phone so easy!!!

It sucks, I had a treo 680 that I spilled oil in and to make a long story short I really f--ed the thing up. Luckily, my brother had a 8125 lying around after he purchased a iphone and threw me a bone.

Im the type who always likes new and updated technology, so this rom update really made an old phone into a new toy.

Just wanted to take the time to say thanks and keep up the good work!

I have had red green blue screen (Bootloader mode) since Monday 24sep07 (10pm). What do I do? Call cingular already for a service call. Must ship it to them. Is there anything else I can do?:(

I think your PPC is stuck in bootloader mode which if I understand it correctly, you should be able to flash any ROM to it. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than I will respond. I don't think you need to send it in, just wait for someone to help you!

IF you simply follow this guide, it specifically tells you (and its posted in the forums here over and over again) that if you are at the bootloader screen (which you are) then you need to flash an official rom back to the phone to get it working again. Then you can attempt to upgrade again. But the key is you need to get an official rom (either the Cingular 2.25, T-Mobile 2.26, or even the Wizard Love 2.26) and get your phone working first.

No, not after one year. You have to wait two years, befor you can call timo(I know that only from Germany, in other countries it is maybe different  ) to unlock your device for free.

Greetings
Denis

wtf? thats bs. i called tmobile before my year contract was up and they sent me the instructions how to unlock. although, without a cingular sim card to initiate the unlock sequence, the code is useless. They dont tell you how exactly, they give you the code though. i cant find any docs to tell how to unlock with a tmobile sim in the unit. tmobile mda US.

Here is the email they sent me:

T-Mobile Sim Unlock Request
Sim Unlock Reference: xxxxxxxxx
IMEI: xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Unlock Code: xxxxxxxxxx
Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. Below you will see the Instructions for unlocking your HTC device.

1. Insert the foreign SIM card
2. Power on the device and the display should read "Please input unlock code"
3. Enter the unlock code and the device should display "Phone is unlocked."
4. Allow the phone to scan the network (or manually click on the antenna icon to do this)

It is very important that the instructions and SIM unlock code are entered correctly as listed. If you receive an error message while performing the instructions do not make any further attempts to unlock the handset. Please be aware that if an excessive amount of incorrect attempts are made, the phone will be permanently locked. You will need to verify the IMEI by pressing *#06# and contact Customer Care for support.

Thank You,

On a G3: Just download the rom from your carriers website and flash it. It's possible this can be done on a G4 too, but just to be sure I would remove the IPl/SPL first.

POINT TO REMEMBER !

Also, along with bringing the IPL/SPL as per carriers official, "NEVER FORGET" to lock back SIM/CID of your phone.Hope you saved [lock_backup.bin] file that the lockiz tool generated you can restore cid to factory default. ;)

I have a G3 T-mobile MDA.

I followed the directions on the original post and managed to ulock the CID and flash first to 1.05, then 3.08. (Perhaps my folly was not flashing to 2.26 as an intervening step between 1.05 and 3.08).

When I attempted to flash to the WM6, I got the tri-band screen that I could not get to disappear.

My solution was to start all over by flashing back to button rom (1.05).

I'm relieved to report that this gave me back my functionality, but now my reset screen reads:

IPL 1.01
SPL 3.08
OS 1.5.4.2

I've tried flashing using all 3 versions (button, 2.26, and 3.08) and all 3 give me an error (either a communication error or instructions to find a newer [UBF?] file). Any recommendations for regaining concordance between IPL and SPL or other advice?

Thanks so much for any help.

I believe your phone is still cid locked, that's why you can't upgrade to wm6.Plz explain briefly how did you apply the method of unlocking with lokiwiz02b.
secondly, you did not follow the guide correctly, you skipped the most essential step 17,to flash t-mobile 2.26 to get a solid base of ipl/spl 2.26 to work on,but it is to be done after you have a cid unlocked device only. The edit option for step 17 pf upgrading to ipl/spl 3.08 is just an option but not necessary,so instead of upgrading to t-mobile 2.26,you upgraded to 3.08,this is what has created all the havock.
Anyway, now what is the status of your phone:-
1.Does it start and load up any OS normal ? if it loads up and works normal than download WST tool and run it,specially hit the button 'CID action' and post the report it gives to determine whether your phone is cid locked/unlocked.
2.Or it goes into bootloader mode(multicolor screen), if it goes into bootloader mode, than download the official carrier's Rom from it's website and wjile in bootloader mode try to flash,it'll start the phone and bring it back to it's default status and then check if cid locked/unlocked and redo the unlocking method again correctly and upgrade to wm6,hope this'll help out, good luck :)

Obviously, I'm a noobie, but I appreciate your patience with me.

Let me take your questions in turn.

First, re: lokiwiz02b, I followed the directions in the post and did receive the DOS screen message on my PC, congratulating me that I'd successfully unlocked the CID. I'd be happy to repeat this procedure, if you believe it is indicated.

Second, I misread step 17 to suggest that flashing to 2.26 vs. 3.08 was a matter of personal preference. Sorry.

Third, yes the phone does start up normally. A reset shows me IPL 1.05, SPL 3.08 (along with the beer in the foreground of the Colleseum). I'd be happy to take your advice on downloading the WST tool, but I don't know what or where that tool is (again, my noobiness shows here). I've done a search of this thread for the WST keyword and come up blank. Given that it relates to CID, I wonder if WST = lokiwiz02b?

Fourth, I'm thankfully better off than getting stuck at the bootloader mode. But if I were stuck there, I wouldn't know where to find T-mobile's official ROM. I also don't know how to get the phone to tell me whether the CID is locked.

Finally, re: my specific errors, when I try to flash to 2.26 from my current state (IPL 1.05 SPL 3.08) I get an Error 296: Upgrade only. "This NBF File cannot be used for your PDA phone. Please get a newer NBF file."

Again, thank you so much for your help.

V/R,
Glen

V/R,
Glen

Ok,download the WST tool from the link below, read through the guide and thread for complete understanding and use:-

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329170

run the WST tool and post here the report, specially the 'cid action' report to verify the cid lock/unlock status.

As you have upgraded to ipl/spl 3.08,it's going to be quite difficult to downgrade to ipl/spl 1.xx.there are only two options, either flash the button's rom 1.05 a couple of more times,as it takes more than one flash to work properly or download the official carrier's rom.Which official OS was on the phone initially installed.if it was a T-mobile OS than download from it's website.

Faria:

I downloaded and installed the Wizard Service Tool on my PC. I ran it and attempted Enab. RAPI + Unsigned Apps. The application froze, ActiveSync lost its connection and since then I've been unable to ActiveSync. I'm getting frustrated and am feeling over my head.

What I'd like to do is send this to someone and have them sort it out for me. $40 seems a reasonable charge. I've found an ebay seller offering to "pimp my MDA" for $72 with shipping. Whether he'd successfully manage this pimp project with the current state of my phone is questionable. The ebay item number is 140169841231.

So, 2 questions: 1.) Do you or anyone you know/trust perform this service? 2.) Do you believe that a professional might be as helpless as this noobie in the face of the IPL/SPL discordance?

Thank you,
Glen

Update:

The failure to ActiveSync I traced to a bad USB hub on my PC. I can now ActiveSync and so have regained hope.

I managed to Enab RAPI + Unsigned Apps, and ran the CID Actions.

You were right, Fari! My CID is locked. I'll run the lokiwiz again this evening when I return home for work.

Thanks again for all your counsel and patience.

Glen

I followed your advice, re-ran lokiwiz (turns out the first time that I'd missed step 15), loaded the Button 1.05 successfully, upgraded to 2.26 successfully, and finally installed XM6r3 full version.

Thanks so much!

On a final note, I'm sure I'm displaying a less than complete reading of the linked forums, but I'm perplexed that my preferred text entry mode of Transcriber no longer seems available on WM6. Is there a way to reinstall this option of Transcriber?

Thanks again,
Glen

Please, please can you help me. I need to get WIZARD_LOVE ROM. If you can send me a link to it OR the file itself, I would be greatly in your debt. I have tried numerous ways to get this file but the "rapidshare link" is pretty useless if you are not a Premium Member and I have tried numerous searches but all I seem to come up with is a lot of people talking about it but no links to it. I have an Imate KJAM and I am trying to install XDA Mobile 6 Release 3 and realised only to late that there is a NO_ID version which I now have. But I am a little stuck as I am now sitting with a phone that will go no further than the blue Imate startup screen or alternatively the bootloader 3 color screen. I hope I am correct in assuming that if I get the Wizard_love rom and flash that I should be able to get an ActiveSync connection going and then use the ROMUpdateUtility_Wizard_NoID.exe with the nk.nbf file that came with the XDA Mobile 6 Release 3 download.

I am assuming after reading through the forums that I have a G4 phone, phone details are
imate KJAM on SA-MTN, IPL 2.16.0001, SPL 2.16.0001.

I trust this is sufficient info for you to be able to give me some guidelines and help. If you need it my email is agc1200@gmail.com.

Thanks in advance
Alistair

As you say it's a G4 device with IPL/SPL 2.16.0001,you shudn't flash a G3 Rom which includes an IP/SPL in it.it will 'Brick' your phone. The wizard_love_Rom includes IPL/SPL,therefore it's not safe to flash to your phone.
Well,Your are lucky man, that you still have a working phone and it's not 'Bricked' as you flashed xda Mobile wm6r3,which does not include IPL/SPL in it,otherwise if you had flashed Wizard_love_Rom,it wud certainly wud have been Bricked.
If you want to upgrade, then there's another method to upgrade a G4 device called 'SoftSPL & HardSPL'. Check out this thread :-

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=329147

BTW, you don't need Activesync connection to flash a Rom,if you can get the phone into Bootloaders mode (tri color screen) then connect the phone with pc via usb cable and check if small usb written appears at the bottom of the bootloader screen .than you can flash by running romupdateutility (RUU)
Good luck :)
