View Full Version : Custom RUU V5.2
Olipro
20th March 2007, 04:40 PM
new custom RUU is complete;
ROM Cookers, the good news is that this is now a single file, simply provide it with an NBH and you have compatibility with all SPL versions.
Fifth edition... with detection of all SPL versions, plus a very special selection of two soft-load options, including an "Unsafe" SPL which can be used to flash your device back to any SPL you desire.
5.2 is a small patch to fix an error with the unsafe SSPL not allowing you to overwrite the bootloader

Olipro, I can't flash using your new RUU and Hard 1.11SPL.
I got installed your Hard SPL 1.11. Start the RUU and selected "SPL-1.11 Bootloader" and mark "Is it Hard-SPL?", Everithing goes well but, when it tries to start the upgrade, the machine hibernates and, after some seconds an error 260 appears.
IMHO the RUU can't start the Hard-SPL 1.11.
Any clue?
EDIT: It doesn't leave a RUU.log in C:\ like previous version (?)
Thanks and best regards.

@VivaErBetis
Do you realy have SPL 1.11 on your phone? I think it means "Olipro SPL 1.11" is not SPL 1.11.
"Olipro SPL 1.11" can also be "SPL 1.04" and "Is it Hard-SPL"
So you must choose your original SPL and "Is it Hard-SPL".

no, you're horribly wrong.
1.11.Oli is based on SPL-1.11, 1.10.Oli is based on SPL-1.04

I suggest to print it as
SPL-1.11 or higher New Bootloader so you wouldn't have to release a new RUU every time you release a new version SPL =P
It was a good idea renaming it to ROMWrapper.exe so folks know it can be used to upgrade or downgrade ROMS!

Hi Olipro. First of all thank you for your precious work.
Just a stupid question..
Why do you ask the user what SPL is currently installed on the phone?
Couldn't you read it directly from the phone? (it should be connected if you're attempting to flash it) :)
Does a command to read BL version exist?
If so.. why don't you use it? :)

because it'd require putting the phone into bootloader mode straight away, and since the App is a quick C# job, spending the time to make it interface with USB would be painful and I really can't be arsed. :P

AutoDetect errored out (unknown version) when I used V4.3 on a recent ROM upgrade. I clicked the radio button to my SPL version (2.10) and everything flashed fine.
I was not in bootloader mode, but in previous versions/combos (e.g. 4.2/1.40) I didn't need to be, just needed Active Stink to be done with it's sync.
Any thoughts?
EDIT:
I flashed back to another radio ROM and had no AutoDetect issues with that NBH file, must be the the NBH file (Custel 1.3 Cingy) of the other ROM?

--Resolution below--
First of all let me apologize if this has been posted on the forums before, I have searched extensively and couldn't find any other occurrences of this problem.
Since a couple of weeks (haven't been flashing my phone in a while..) whenever I start RUUWrapper it immediately crashes and shows a Windows 'Send Details to Microsoft' screen, on Windows XP sp2.
It doesn't matter if I use any version of RUUWrapper or the older version (ROMUpgradeUt.exe), it always displays the same error.
I will try to perform the update on another workstation now, with a fresh ActiveSync install etc, but I am very curious what might cause the problems.
The first time they occurred was when I was trying out some different upgrades, and suddenly it just failed to start (been doing 5-6 updates the same day successfully)...
If there's any other info that's useful please let me know so I can provide it, thanks.

I found the solution to the problem posted above.
Apparently, RUUWrapper does not function properly when run from a network drive. At my workstation, we use 'My Documents' redirection, that stores a local copy of the 'My Documents' folder on the network. This ensures that you can continue to access documents when the network fails, but to Windows, the folder is a network share.
Obviously, you'll never want to flash your phone from a network drive, so I copied all the files to the local file system. Not a single problem there.

hey guys,
I bought my Hermes yesterday. it's X01HT, in WM5 traditional Chinese already. I am trying to get it into WM6 black 2.5. I went to "the hermes guide" and did EXACTLY as it said, and sucessfully flashed the HardSPL. When I try to upgrading the radio, there was th problem, when I click "auto detect" it shows "In order to use this feature, your PDA must be running Windows Mobile, you may need to confirm this check on your PDA also. it must be synced with ActiveSync: have you done this". After i click yes, there is the confirmation thing on my X01HT, i click "yes" there also. But then i got "Erro, unknown version! You should pick SSPL" on laptop screen.
I tried to skip upgrading the radio, and do the rom directly, got the exact same problem.

YOU NEED TO READ, READ , READ. RUU is for flashing ROM's to your device, it is not a program to install on your device. If I were you I would take some friendly advice, read before you do something dum which will cost you your phone.
Asking a question like this indicates that you haven't read this thread nor any other.

I know RUU is for flashing rom.
But this RUUwrapper cannot run by itself. I sure don't know how
to combine it with my other ROM that I would like to flash.
I read the whole thread and everyone just kept saying

Thanks for the info. Now i started reading through this thread just to find out what this customRUU really does, but i still don't really get it. People say that you need a Hard-spl,.. what is that?
From what i understand is RUU really just an alternate way of flashing your device with the ROM that is designed for it?
(so this replaces just the default flashing that comes with Rom which is, for example, made by Dell).
Otherwise, if i use it to flash Wizard or Hermes Rom on my Dell Axim, i will just brick my device. Right?

I just bought an X01HT (JN Hermes), and was about to install Hard-SPL.
I quickly discovered that I needed .NET CF 2, which I installed.
I now get an error message that seems to say the program has crashed (though I can't really read it, as it's in kanji).
Anyone else experience this problem?
Update: Accidentally fixed.

you don't need .net CF, you need .net framework for your desktop windows.

RUUWrapper was never intended for people who are deliberately using stock SPLs.
I suggest you either flash Hard-SPL or manually select to use SSPL, I have no intention of supporting people intent on actually doing something this stupid.

new custom RUU is complete;
Am I correct, that to bring my phone to original from what it is now, just download current ATT rom? Will this also bring back radio to 1.40?
TIA:confused:

Dear Sirs,
First of all, I appreciate Your great professional work :) and this very interesting forum. I am new and I read the forum user guide.
I want to flash an Schaps WM6 ROM but I am more difficult :( .
I start with an Vodafone branded HERM200 with spl 1.09 and ipl 1.01
ROM 2.04.161.2, RADIO 1.32.00.00 PROTOCOL 32.65.7020.09W.
I install net framework and Hard-spl V7 and now : ipl 1.04 and spl 2.10 Olipro.
When I start the Schap's WM6 Pro 3.54 (tanks Schap for Your Great Work),
I select according more readings the "AUTO DETECT" spl, but I receive
this error : ERROR Unknown version. You should pick SSPL.
If I select SPL 2.30 Bootloader with is-it Hard SPL have this message :
"Please be aware that this flasher is intended solely for SPL 1.11
and you MUST have 1.11 installed in order to flash any unsigned files"
I not proceed ... because I have SPL 2.10 Olipro... prior to damage..
I use Your next version of RUUWrapper.exe without results
Can someone help me ?
I very appreciate Your reply
Excuse me for cross-point but I think this is the good place for my Q.

Hi Olipro,
I've tested the 2.60.Olipro SPL with this RUU wrapper.
I enter manually into bootloader mode and then I choose 2.30 New Bootloader and Hard SPL. Tried to flash a Radio ROM. Everything OK but, when 100% was reached there appears an UPDATE ERROR and an autorecover utility starts. But the radio was flashed completely right...
Maybe I'm doing something wrong or the RUU needs an update for 2.60?
Thanks and best regards ;)

I'm having a strange problem. I'm unable to flash my Cingy 8525. ipl-1.04 SPL-2.03. I get the following message "Custom RUU has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." It doesn't matter what I'm trying to flash. The only things I am able to flash are official cingular Roms. Can someone please direct me on what to do. I have tried to reflashing to an official and then to a custom rom but no luck. I was using vp3G v3.62 before I noticed this.
thank you for any help.
P.S. also tried putting in bootloader. No luck.

I have only one question. There is option "Force safe SSPL". Does it mean that SSPL will be automaticaly transferred to PDA .. or I have to run SSPL - as it is said in SSPL Readme file and then run CustomRUU and check above option and start flashing ?

no, it's deployed automatically... and it's not the SSPL you're thinking of, this is an entirely different kettle of fish (the mechanism of action is the same, but it doesn't use Des's program)

Hey - sorry to post with a lame question on this, but I've really screwed things up a bit. Tried following the directions, but seems like something is off.
On the 8525 I've upgraded to:
Herm100 / IPL-1.04
Herm100 / SPL-2.10.Olipro
I'm now trying to upgrade to v6 and not having any luck. Whenever I run one of the files for the cingular models:
It starts the RUU wizard which kills the ActiveSync process, and my 8525 screen goes into the red-green-blue-white stripe mode. Only way I've found out of it is to reset.
Cingular tech support was no help. Spoke to someone who had no idea what I was talking about, put me on old, and said it must be defective. Thanks.
I've tried downgrading to start over, but I can't get RUUWrapper to launch. Whenever it does, I just get:
Process ID = 0x5c0 (1472), Thread ID = 0xfa0 (4000)
I've tried on two machines (XP and XP/64) and the other (the 32 bit) also similarly bombs out, with no descriptive error message.
Anu suggestions?
Thanks!

Sorry ... two stupid things:
1. I left this out of the post - trying to upgrade to:
RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_3.62.502.3_6275_1.54.07.00 _108_UOOS_SVN05_Ship.exe
2 - Did a hard reset and it finally went through. Ignored that the screen went stripes ... ignored that it said make sure active sync was running ... and then it seems to be running, up to 12%. I'm sure I'll ask again when I break another piece of it.
Thanks

1. Flashed HardSPLV7 on to my Hermes
2. Downloaded the latest CustomRUU 1.07 MB (1,122,304 bytes), still the Autodetect option is not able to detect the SPL version.
I get the error message as Error Unknown Version. You should pick Safe SSPL. Activesync is connected.
a) What could be the issue?
b) I wanted to flash WM6 using Schaps_WM6Pro_Hermes_4.31_WWE_Full on to my WM5 Vario II and since this Autodetect is not working whats the option i should select among the different boot loaders?
Should i select the Is it HardSPL checkbox ?

I have it in the same folder with Custom RUU & Renamed to RUU_Signed.nbh
I have SPL-2.08.HSPL.
I have tried running RUUWrapper.exe with the phone in Bootloader and fully booted.
When I launch CustomRUU and Select Auto detect and check the box for "Is it Hard SPL?"
I get the Error "Error, Unknown Version! You should pick Safe SSPL"
Is there another way to flash it or am I missing something. . .

Hi,
Just tried upgrading the radio on my HD2 using the above and now on boot I am getting error messages, and once booted I cant get any programs to run (At least, nothing I have installed - opera etc still works). I also cant view or connect wireless networks.
Phone details:
OS Version: 5.2.21869 (21896.5.0.82)
Mainla Version: 2.5.19211619.0
ROM Version: 1.66.405.2 (76641) WWE
Radio Version: 2.12.50.02_2
Protocol version: 15.40.50.07U
SPL: 2.08.HSPL
Was working fine until I applied the updated radio version this morning. To update, I ran RRU Wrapper with the above radio version. RUU Wrapper wouldnt detect the SPL, so I ran it in "Force safe SPL" mode. First attempt failed (With phone booted into Windows). Booted phone into update mode (Volume down / reset) and re-ran RRU Wrapper - went through pretty quickly and completed properly.
The error I get (Including a couple of these on boot) whenever I try to run anything is: The file '<filename>' cannot be opened. Either it is not signed with a trusted certifercate, or one of its components cannot be found. If the problem persists, try reinstalling or restoring this file.
Just wondering what to do next. Do I restore the original HTC ROM? The phone is on Virgin mobile in the UK...
Any help much appreciated.
