Does anyone know if there is a way through the registry to play with the power of the irda port ? (I have been looking around but havent found anything)
Basically I d love to use my Hermes as a remote but there is no point if I dont manage to extend the range of the port (Which is quite low compared to some other PPC)
Of course it is still possible to tweak the hardware (Used to do that with my old HP calculator...) but I'd rather avoid...

in registry I guess - no. but what exactly you want to tweak on HW? replace some resistors to more power for led? do not forget, that is limitation on infra led, if you exceed voltage and current (V/mA - sorry for my english, it is hard to explain technicall things, but I am technician) you can easily damage infra led. maybe you can try to change infra led, with led with higher radiant intensity, but I am not shure, if HW (output amplifier) is optimized for that...

I did that a long time ago on some HP calculator which communicate by infrared (Change a resistor to pu more power to the LED)
But yes I will not do that to my precious Hermes.
I as just hoping the power could be regulated on the software side
