Windows Mobile VI - BLACK EDITION v1.2
................................once you try black you can't go back!

Developed by the two psychopaths in Melbourne Australia! - jasjamming [the iron chef] and walshieau [programmer with a vengence]

Feel free to make donations to us in terms of BEER and WOMEN! (ummm. please?)

Thanks for all your support and feedback in v1.1. We have sorted many issues as well as added better functionality all in a tight and compact form factor. Here are the details.

ROM VERSION: WM VI Black 1.2 (3.22.200.4)
CE Version: 5.1.195 (HEX-edited from 5.2.968 to support BBconnect)
Build: 17217.2.3.0
FREE STORAGE: 54.06MB
FREE RAM: 29.86MB

The Kitchen Used: ROM Koch (prerelease) by "dutty" - the bat out of hell programmer!
RUU Installer: Custom RUU 3.6 OLI (the fuckwit)

So, what does 1.2 contain (MUST READ):

1. Memory Cache Patch
2. HSDPA Icon Enable
3. SD Card Disappear Reg Hack (only works on some SD cards such as Kingston)
4. Bigger Screen (vjtoggletoday)
5. Brighter Screen (vjlumosIII)
6. Flashlight (vjCandella)
7. HTTweakC 2.1
8. MagicSS (Screen Capture)
9. Windows Mobile VI Black Edition splash Screen
10. WMBE.tsk (with black bars) set as default
11. SMS Backup
12. (TaskMan and RegEdit) in programs (the task manager has an integrated registry editor)
13. Connection Manager Icon tray removed
14. XButton (alias Task Manager in Settings) set to "close" when tapping and holding X by default
15. ATImageON Performance Patch
16. No EXTROM - simply unhide your current one with HTweakC and use it as storage space (another 10MB sweet)

Differences from Version 1.1 (READ THIS ALSO)

17. Removed PHM Registry Editor because 12. above has a built in Registry Editor
18. Major Boot Issues Resolved (thanks to the new version of dutty's ROM KOCH)
......NOTE: SPB pocket plus safe mode feature may cause problems (compatability issue with Wm6), if so Soft reset again and OS will load then uninstall Safe Mode from PocketPlus.
19. Cleaned Windows directory as much as possible removing rubbish/redundant files (SAVE STORAGE SPACE)
20. Compacted the ROM to its optimal size via use of tadzio's imgf tool chain
21. Because of 20, Windows Update was removed as the OS.nb is minimal and leaves no ROM room for updates via M$ (who needs this anyway, we are running hacked ROMS)
22. Cleaner Icon set for 3G/E/G/U etc.
23. Batti removed due to popular demand (its listed under optional apps below)
24. BBConnect & Goodlink Work (OS version HEX-edited to 5.1.195)
25. Softkey Manager
26. The funny green dialpad with white blank numbers issue is resolved (removed this crap)
27. Restored Remote Desktop link under Programs
28. Removed all alarm sounds except 1 and removed all ringtones except 3 standard ones. Users can copy across their own sounds (why have garbage when we can save ROM space)
29. Added WPA support with AES for WLAN
30. 3G Video Call option (please see list of optional applications). Video call was not embedded to save ROM space for people who do not use it.

Optional Applications for 1.2 (attached to this post)

1. WM VI Black Cyberon Voice Dial
2. WM VI Black Cyberon Voice Commander (taken from Dopod ROM) - this is similar to MS Voice Command except that it also reads emails
3. WM VI Black Batti 2.1 by David Andrš
4. WM VI Black VIDEO CALL Dialer with smart Dial
6. CWW Enterprises AUSraliat Operator Settings (walshieau)
5. Other applications/utils such as Windows Live or Pocket MSN etc can be found in the Wiki under cooked ROMS.

Well, this is probably the fastest and most compact WM6 Rom (in the presence of useful everyday tools that are added), We hope you enjoy it!!!

Known Issues to Date

1. Turn OFF Wifi option missing in popup bubble
2. Today background does not appear initially on the BLACK (WMBE) theme. You must reselect it in Settings\Today and then will show up properly. This is only work around at this.
3. My wife tells me to sleep on the sofa from now on (and she took my visa platinum)

----------------------------------------------------
Note: This upgrade also install SPL 1.13.Olipro Bootloader which is a must to prevent you from bricking your device in future. This SPL also eliminates Bad Blocks if you have them. A NEW BOOTLOADER SPLASH is also included. Your RADIO ROM is not touched, dont panic!

If you want the OS.nb only, extract it and flash it yourself (for advanced users only)

To install, run the (.exe). Then select the current bootloader you have. If you havent modified your BL (SPL), then the option you select should be SPL1.04-SPL1.09.

Disclaimer: NO warranties! LETS keep this thread clean and only post messages regarding v1.2.

----------------------------------------------------

SICK OF READING, then DOWNLOAD (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2N6SKZZK) ALREADY!!! If you already have v1.2 installed, you can install this update then restore your backup from SPB or the like.

MAKE SURE YOUR WINDOWS XP MACHINE HAS .NET 2 FRAMEWORK INSTALLED. if not, download it from microsoft and install it first before ROM Upgrade.

Working great here to...

Installed to-date:

Goodlink
Cingular Keyboard Fix
Cyberon Voice Dial
Cingular Settings CAB
CommButton Toggle-Vibrate-Fix CAB
Bandswitch

Two quick questions/Issues:

How do I get the COM Button to toggle vibrate on/off? [Never Mind ... someone directed me to the "CommButton-Toggle-Vibrate-Fix" cab .. which works great]
Using "soft key manager" I can change what the soft keys activate, but they still read "calendar" and "activesync" .. any way to make that change? [never mind ... soft reset fixed that problem]

I resolved my problem with the pink Pin input keys. Remember that I got the same after applying a fix for BE 1.1 - the one for cleaner looking 3g/Edge icons. Installing that made it pink.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1176124#post1176124

This fix in integrated in BE 1.2, perhaps that was is causing my pink keys. Copied the file in the old post to my windows directory and now it is nice looking again

Do you have the latest version of Activesync?
Goto SETTINGS then the CONNECTIONS TAB then USB to PC and remove the check mark that says Enable advanced network functionality. Might even want to soft reset after this and then try updating again.

It was worth the wait ... got to say this new ROM is fast fast fast (I upgraded from WM5 just now) and so far so good in terms of stability. I am keeping things lean at the moment in terms of new app installs, but since my goodlink is back up and running I am content for the moment. Wifi seems to be working fine, as well as my connectivity to the Cingular network.

There is no going back ... thanks to all the cooks in the kitchen.

I just enabled some tweaks and when I soft reset my device it would hang on the boot screen. So I unplugged the sync cable from my device and then it started. Few minutes later I had the headphones (original) plugged in and enabled another tweak and it hung again. I got a hunch that it might be due to the micro USB port on the phone being in use. So I soft reset the device 4 times while it was plugged in and it would not boot. So I unplugged the headphones and all is fine. Thought this might help others who are having booting issues.

OK, after all the encouragement on this thread I went ahead and installed my spb pocket plus (turned off safe mode -- have the most recent version) but when I soft reset was stuck on the Windows Mobile VI splash screen page for about 2 minutes... aargh.

Once I finally was up and running, it was like dragging through molasses.

So,

First, I opened spb Pocket Plus and uninstalled the safe mode component (just to be safe)

Next, I went to task manager and turned of the x-button functionality (in case it was conflicting with the same functionality available in spb Pocket Plus)

And finally, I made sure to choose a spb theme for my today screen (in case spb was hanging up using one of the custom wm6 themes)

At any rate, now spb Pocket Plus sometimes works. Sometimes I can soft reset and get up and running without a problem, and other times I am stuck in the 2 minute startup to molasses process.

Any thoughts?

I downloaded and installed 1.2 (I also have Radio 1.38.00.10)

I don't know if this is an issue with WM6 or not. I went to this from the shipped rom.

I have a Cingular 8525, and I can't seem to make the keyboard light up like it used to under WM 5.

Also I cannot write to the extended_rom directory still. I might have to run an additional unlock tool, as I have used the HTweakC2.1 app and it is still locked.

I can't say if it is faster or slower. I think one thing that tends to slow down the pocket pc is SpbPocketPlus (which I haven't installed again). Under WM5 it definitely slowed down my device.

1. install pcoket plus (latest version)

Ok, the downside to this ROM's midlet manager is that I can't seem to let Gmail use the network without it asking if it can use the network for each transaction.

If I remember correctly there were settings for java apps in the WM5 midlet manager, now I just have the "Menu" available, even if an app is selected. On a positive note, it is faster.

I went back to using IBM's java because of the inability to make gmail "trusted". What happened to the "Actions" softkey for the default midlet?

Something strange, not really a bug.

When I went to speed dial for the first time (and contacts wasn't running) the contact list took a very long time to populate (I thought it was wiped out).

Now even after I make sure that the contacts are not running, when I add additional speed dials, they come up quickly.

This never happened before and is quite annoying. I'm not roaming. I'm on the edge network and I'm connected through medianet. I have not yet searched, but it there some way around this message?

OK, this is the procedure i followed to get SPB to boot normal.

1. install pcoket plus (latest version)
2. Reset your device
3. Now uninstall Safe Mode
4. Then reboot.

1. Installing pocket plus v3.2.0.
2. Resetting
3. 10-15 min. waiting in syrup
4. Remove pplus
5. Guess I'll wait for the earlier mentioned patch from spb. ;)

I did a stylus reset after installing and never really got to point 4, reboot.

But now, even after uninstalling pocket plus, the device has been extremely slow. Guess hard reset is the next level on the task list.

Thank You,

I have WMDC and Windows Firewall turned off, it Synced prior to upgrading to WM VI Black Edition and even after upgrading, it synced prior to using Internet Sharing. So, as this is an issue I assumed related to this specific build (Since I didn't have this problem with WMXDA) I posted it here to see if anyone else has had this problem yet?

Performing a search, which I already did, yields no obvious solutions.

Search Results for "Search: Key Word(s): wont, sync, with, vista"
*[SOLVED]Syncing an Artemis with Vista does not work!
*BA WM5 AKU3.5 R4 - xplode
*Helmi BA WM2k5 AKU3.5 (v.1.4 beta)

None of which help.

So, I uninstalled the Microsoft network driver for the 8525. After it reinstalled it's self it works.

Except i installed the carbon cab. which had a funny logo under call history (video call I now know) when I reset I now have the standard HTC dialer with no keys except the video call button! HELP!! Please!?

Tried putting the video calling one over the top, gives a funny greyscale background with very basic looks?

welcome to xda-devs

you should have done some reading first before changing dialer skins.
some wm5 dialers wont work on wm6 due to the NEW smartdial in WM6.

This ROM doesnt contain the WM5 smart dialer. it has been removed to save storage space therefore only leaving the wm6 smart dialer.

so if you want to install wm5 3g skins u will also need to install the wm5dialer too. Time for you to do some literature review.

Yes, Microsoft must be aware of this issue, because in their troubleshooting guide for WMDC and vista, this is one of the steps that they advise doing to get wmdc to sync. But it certainly wouldn't hurt for more people to let them know this is happening all the time...

I reloaded all of my software and everything seems to be working fine.

I've added:

PTTfix
vibra (switch)
SPB Mobile Shell
Agile Messenger
a mortgage calculator
Palm SMS

Everything seems to be working A OK.

The only thing that I am trying to fix now is the dialer pad. I like the old style keypad without the smart dial above it. I also liked the softkey for contacts on the dialer screen.

In my opinion YES IT IS WORTH IT. It has built in stuff that was not with LVSW. It has the HTweak built in and alot of nice bonuses, like the flashlight, screen brightener, regedit and others.

I'm lovin' it.

v1.2 still has the PIN entry screen with the grey/pink color scheme. Attached is a replacement for this that makes this screen look more WMBE appropriate.

Just unzip and copy to \Windows and soft reset (may want to backup the existing .dll first).

Other than this, I think v1.2 is by far the best WM6 ROM I've tried yet.

Thanks for this agentdr8,
The reason why we used the dll in the release was that it provided a nicer/cleaner 3G/H/E/G icons on the top bar. We thought it was a good tradeoff as you will only see the pin entry pad not so often.

Yes I have now installed it and used it. There is a couple of issues. The optus mms settings I had to change to so they would work. Basically I set server name to Optus MMS. Gateway to 61.88.190.10. Server Address to http://mmsc.optus.com.au:8002. Connect via Optus MMS and it worked. The original settings would not send mms. The next thing I notice is that when I use the Optus Internet to connect for web browsing it works but when I close the browser it stay connected to gprs.

This last one could be a user problem :) as I normally just use wifi for browsing.

Still very cool. :D

The only niggle I have now is that I cant figure out how to run the t-mobile customizations from the extended rom and the windows directory, but thats nothing to do with the rom I just cant figure out how to make the damn pre-config.exe files run. Although I can run the cabs individually I cant use the xml files.

I installed the BE 1.2 and so far there 2 question I have.

One is that vibrating works great on text message etc but only seem to be several quick short pulses and on old WM5 it was one long pulse.

Is there a way to change this back to the old way? (I am deaf and depend on vibrating to alert me of new text or emails or incoming instant messagings) becasue I seem can't really feel the quick short pulse when my 8525 is in my pocket or barely felt it.

Also I have an account with mail2web.com and I set up activesync on WM6 the same way I have set on the WM5 but it doesn't seem to be pushing email to my WM6 however the contacts list syncs fine and all the contacts appeared on my WM6 after I had set up but not the emails. I have checked mail2web.com online and there are new emails sitting on it but still not pushed to my 8525. Is there new additional setting to make it work on WM6 I may have missed?

Thank you
Bill

Works fine on mine, I have Exchange 2003 SP2, and I am the exchange admin so I know there is nothing too funky in the exchange setup.
