1) Bug fixing.
2) Button refresh now recalculates which schedule should be active and do it.......
3) SMS and Mail actions improved with a button to choose an outlook contact.
4) New action to sync an email account
5) Now you can copy one time frame (with its actions) or all the time frames of a schedule and paste it to other weekdays of the same or other profile.
6) In the paste procedure you can select to remove all the time frames of the destiny profile & weekday or delete only the time frames that could overlap with the new ones.
7) On install you can choose to install as a process or as a service.
8) When you change the state of BT, WIFI or speaker, using main window or as an action now you can select "Monitor and keep the state". In this way CMP will reapply the state if windows or other program changes the state. Very useful in some devices that currently turn BT off to save battery (so your connection to your Headset is lost) or when windows turns wifi on automatically but you dont want it.
9) New Action: Close Idle connections now can be activated/deactivated as an action.
10) New Action Upload data to configure this feature to OFF/ON state. So you can select when CMP should upload location changes to the server

1) Bug fixing arrived with service feature:
1.1) Schedule Engine. Some schedules didnt work correclty.
1.2) Virtual Secretariat.
1.3) Button Plan now works correctly
1.4) CMP crashing ocassionally with splash screen stated "Creating GUI"....
2) Now you can lock a profile being in a schedule EOAP (Execute On Any Place).
3) Pause/Resume CMP using the main menu. When CMP is paused it wont execute actions.

3.1) Close CMP (Menu/Exit).
3.2) Copy the cab to the device.
3.3) Dont uninstall first. It will remove your registry settings, your activation code, etc.

3.5) Once the install process is done CMP will ask you to reset the device. Click on Yes.
3.6) If you ve any problem using Service way just change the registry key HKLM\Software\Daniel Herrero\CommMgrPro\cmp_as_service to 0 and reset the device. On boot CMP will execute as a process.

This is beta version and the goal is bug-fixing so debug version is needed to find them. Please keep in mind this is the first beta. Only install it if you have time to test it and report bugs. If not is better to wait some weeks for a stable version......:D

I've noticed that the counter only clocks up for the current data session. Once the session is closed, the counter resets to 0 so you have no way of seeing how much was tranferred last session. Maybe add:

Last session
Total (with a reset counter)

Yes. The idea is to monitor data traffic per session, day and month but this options isnt included in this beta to avoid confussions on this stage....

Just cached a bug when you are adding-editing a place a click the upper left x icon. By now confirm selecting "Save" option...

this is what I do.
1) delete db and start Comm Mgr Pro
2) Click over exclamation icon and select Add place
3) enter a name, description and a icon
4) Ok. Then appears question...."Create a default 24 frame?".select yes.
5) menu/options to go to places tab.
6) Select the created place and select menu\place\edit
7) Change name, desc and image
8) ok
And the place has the new name, description and icon. I ve tried other ways and over diferent devices (tynt, s200, universal) and I cant see that bug. Could you tell with detail what you do?

664: Asynchronus commands executed by one of the 8 worker threads of the program.
1: There is one time notification scheduled. It can be the end of the current period, start of the next period o final of a time event (turn on/off bluetooth for x minutes, etc)

I using "tre" in sweden and GSM is not enabled everywhere.
I would like to have GSM when it is possible and Auto if GSM is not possible.

Maybe can you have a fallback if one setting is not finding any signal.

1) Yes, next version (one or two days) will allow to disable tray icon
2) By now I dont delete current database when reinstall. Maybe I should because It can cause incompatibilities between latest versions and oldest versions.

ahhhhh, hehe right. But the first release will be out in one month or so ( I wanna be very sure It hasnt bugs and It has all the wishes (if I can) of the people so if somene like these version he will like much more the first release.

Of course you can. The only thing related to HTC is the way for switching bands but other manufacturers do it in the same way....
Of course you can uninstall it without problems if It doesnt work properly but I use three diferent devices in the development process and no problem in anyone.

pd: In old devices I have some problems turning on wifi adapter but I am researching about it (NDIS, .....)

1) Inteligent LAC mode . In LAC mode, all the Cell's id found on current place are associated to that place
2) Dual Line support with 2 Pin codes.
3) Option to show/hide tray icon
4) Locked place Option. In this option the place selected is locked and the device behaves according to that place. No current location (LAC and Cells) are considered.
Tipical use: When you are in car and want to force a profile not related with location

Yes, I was thinking about "download cab" button and It is easy to implement. In next release :D There are few things to include in the first no-beta release.
1) Help System.
2) Page to monitor CPU and Battery usage.
And you are right, my idea is waiting and working for make very stable the program before adding more features......

This database in fact is nothing more then a textfile (converted from an accessdatabase) and looks like this (only a few CI's are shown, in a standard GSM Network there are some thousands):

CI NAME

11703 16KES1
11704 16KES2
11705 16KES3

CI = CellID
NAME= Name of the cell (makes it more recognizable)

When extracting this list from a very detailed database more columns can be added like the full name of the Base station (in this case KES = Kessel-Lo), GPS LAT/LON Position, LAC, streetname etc...

In celltrack this database can be imported (and converted) so you'll see the CI and the name of the cell on your display.

Three different people int one hour have reported the same doubt, confussion. Until now, when a new place and time frame are created then default actions are associated to them (BT off, Wifi off, 2G) and It was confusing it the current state was different. So now I ve upload V0.9.0.81. In this version when new actions are created they take their values from the current states. So If the current values are BT On, WF ON, 3 band, ....then the actions will have those values

The connection icon will change to show that it creates a connection but for whatever reason it no longer detected by any applications that require the data connection?

Any ideas? As importantly...Does anyone understand what I just said? :)

Ok. Let's see If I understood you. The default provider usually is My Isp. You can create other providers (networks) and create connections for those networks. For example I can create MyIsp2 network and then create connections for that network. But be aware about the text "Programs that automatically connect to the internet should connect using:". So, for example, if you have selected MyIsp network in the list but you stablish a connection that belongs to other network (MyIsp2...) then CommMgrPro, or bandswitch will be able to stablish manually the connection but the Connection Mgr (Kernel process of windows) will not use that connection because It doesnt belong to the prefered network. In this way the applications that use Connection Manager to get connections wont be able to use it. So if you want to be able to use the connections created for MyIsp2 (for example) you will have to select manually "MyIsp2" in that combo box.

Maybe I can do a hack so if you stablish a connection (using CMP) that doesnt belong to the current default network then CMP change "on the fly" the default network so all the applications will be able to use that connection.....

Thanks. By now All the there are themes (one default theme) and you can create more themes with your own images. Soon a XML file will define too colors, fonts and so on for eache theme....

3) Yes. In this tab you can control the connections regardless of the current profile. This page only apply to Telephony connection, not wifi or PAN connections.
4) yes. I ve the same problem. Many times I ve to switch to the other time control and then come back to be able to change minutes. I will try to change it but Its windows ce controls matters...
5) Well, when you lock a profile (fe, car profile) this will be locked until you unlock it explicitally selecting "Unlock". This kind of profiles have meaning when you are moving but dont want to change the states.
Remember that if you create a 24 hours time frame for the "default" place It will be applied when you enter in a unknown place. For example: " If I am in a unknown place I want BT off, speaker ON......
6) Create a "Car place" and a default 24 hours for it and set the options (BT on, .....). Obviously it isnt necessary to assign lacs or cells to it. Then when you are in the car simple tap the "Current place button" (the one with the current location image), select "Lock mode" and finally select the "car" profile just created. So three clicks and you can use the finger because the buttons are very big.....The profile will remain locked until you unlock it.

Exactly. CommMgrPro detects when is connected to AC and when it isnt.(In Battery bar you see a bettery icon if the device isnt connected or a plug icon if the device is plugged. Verify this putting your eyes on that icon. Then plug and unplug the device and you will see how the icon changes ) So if you unplug it then It will detect the change and will apply the current settings for NO AC.

Just trying out the beta. After uninstalling BandSwitch, I installed CommMgrPro and reset. Upon startup, the application is automatically started but I get a popup error message from the EXE. It says Error cargando followed by six boxes(I assume uninterpretable characters). What gives? Not sure how to diagnose.

Try to reinstall. It seems CMP didnt find the images. I can be because they arent there(strange) or (more probably)you have uninstalled bandswith after installing CMP (You ve to do it before....)

Let's table for now unless you are too curious to find a solution. My Palm 750(intentions are to replace my 8525) should be in tomorrow(Thurs). Will plan to install on that device. It will definately be a clean install w/o Bandswitch interfering. What do you say?

Sometimes when you uninstall bandswitch then CMP registry keys are removed. I ve to research about it....

I wasnt going to free this release so soon because I wanted to include more features but some people have emailed me requesting this feature. Its the posibility to download and install the latest version using the device. In this way pc connection is no needed to install latest version.

Version V0.9.0.9 (2007-03-29).

1) To avoid confussions, when a new place and time frame are created then the actions associated to them take the current values of Bluetooth, wifi, speaker, band.....instead of taking default fixed values (BT off, WIFI off, 2G and connections off)
2) When a new schedule is created you are prompted to customize the actions. Many user didnt know you had to do it.
3) Option to download and install latest version. In about page you can see the latest version and can dowload and install it.

Sure. You can launch any file in the same way you click a file in file explorer. So you can open mp3 files, exe files, links, scripts..........

Then, I got my new wall charger and it did the same thing when I plugged it in. Weird. I uninstalled and it quit. Hi. This can be caused by two reasons:
1) In the current place and current time-frame you ve selected (in tab "actions") the option "On AC full power". This option will turn wifi on and will switch to 3G when the device is plugged.
2) You ve assigned a time frame to the place "Unknown" and have selected the previous option. When you assign a time frame to "default" place then this profile is applied when the current place is unknown.

Well...I got my 750 today. I copied the latest(v0.9.0.9) cab over to my 750 and attempted to install. Unfortunately the installation indicates that this was unsuccessful. I didn't even get the option to choose where I wanted to store(Device or Card)...ha...I don't have a card...that explains that piece I suppose. I am not sure how to debug from this type of message. Any ideas?

Size images will be configurated for each skin using a XML file. A Layout manager will distribute the icons on the fly knowing the buttons size, sreen size, etc

Hi Daniel and all else in the thread. I understand the priority is on wrapping up a stable release; however, I had an idea.

Sometimes I find myself wanting to charge my phone for a few minutes. It would be nice if it didn't switch to the AC connection settings.

Instead of tying AC to a location what if there was a separate AC profile?

Perhaps there can be a toggle box included on the main screen...or replace the "hide" button (I feel this a bit redundant as the x button hides it no?)...with a function to activate or deactivate the AC Profile?

While I am wishing...:D...as you can choose a time limit for other items (i.e. 3G, WiFi, etc.) perhaps the behavior for the AC "switch" can be the time selected...after you are off AC power?

What does everyone think?

Yes, you re right. If the check is selected then 3G is switched and It takes some seconds (double in WM6). So I was a thinking about a page, accesible for example from "Hide" Button, witch push state buttons, that is, buttons than can be pressed or unpressed (on / off). And It would be usefull for many aspects of the program. Any idea?

Hi. IN options page you should see a message.."This update has to be done using pc!". This is a warning message sent from the server. This server cant distingsh if the download request comes from a device or a desktop pc. Anyway, the reason to download it from pc is a bug of version V0.9.0.9. It checked size of the downloaded file with version .83 (hardcoded because of a test) instead of the size got from HTTP headers so the program rejects to install the downloaded file automatically because of invalid size. Anyway fixed in latest version.:D

When CMP is in LAC mode it has certain intelligence. In this mode all the Cells found in your current place are associated automatically to that place. Its very usefull in big cities where places can be under 1 LAC but 6 or 7 cells (my home, for example).
Now I am designing the structure of the xml file. Suggestions are wellcome NOW because after will be difficult the change "radically" the structure. The files will be classified first by resolution, then by screen orientation.
There is one file for each theme

Have you tried to create other theme with your images to see how looks the main screen)?.
Skin engine is in progress but right now you can create themes. Simple create a directory under "themes" directory. copy all the files included in "default" directory and then replace the images you want. By now you have to use the same file names..... Finally select the theme in options page and restart CMP...

Someone told me yesterday he only wanted let CMP execute actions over bluetooth and speaker and It caused problems, switch band and closing connections recently opened.

My images are 60x60 px .. i've choose this size because they fit all the screen, composing an image of 240x120 px. If i replace the images, the result is not well, because around the images, in actual skin, there are "blank" areas with text inside... With the new skin funcions, i can fit all the images to have a 240x120 screen like this:

Strange. I ve done many incoming/outgoing calls since yesterday. Now I ve just done ten outgoing and ten incoming calls toward my wife's phone (calls between those phones are free, obviously, hehe) and no freezes. Are you sure the problem is becasue of the plugin? Can you install V0.9.0.11, activate the plugin and try again? Anyone with this problem?

My images are 60x60 px .. i've choose this size because they fit all the screen, composing an image of 240x120 px. If i replace the images, the result is not well, because around the images, in actual skin, there are "blank" areas with text inside... With the new skin funcions, i can fit all the images to have a 240x120 screen like this:

The "learning time" feature is very useful! Sometimes phone discovers new cell (I already configured 4-5 cells) and switches to unknown profile :(

* Another useful feature would be a week schedule of the task, e.g. simply checkboxes (Mon, Tue, Wed, etc), in order to exclude certain behaviour in some days.
For example, I set the device to do this every working day (before I found all 2G and 3G cells and placed as "HOME")
h 6.40 -> switch to 3G
h 6.43 -> connect to internet and check if my work train have delay form Railway site
h 6.46 -> disconnect and back to 2G again to save battery

I want to do this all days except Saturday and Sunday :D

* Bug (?): on exit program, It doesn't save the connection configuration (enabled and disabled), when I start the Commmgrpro all connections are set to enable (green)

Hi. Yes, I know it;) Apply different schedules according to week day is a "to-do" item. In my case I ve scheduled a "day frame" at 07:00 playing a song and today It woke up me :mad:

Connections issue. Maybe this is the cause.
1) You set connected or disconnected to "Connections" item for the current schedule
2) You go the connections tab a disable some connection (turn red "enable" column).
3) close the app
4) Open the app: If the current schedule has the item "connections" on connected or disconnected state then CMP will enable any configured connection.

Maybe the people like a different behaviour for this feature.....

Yes but dont worry about it because in the xml file identifiers will be numbers and you can put any name. For example

yes yes...As I told It was a first attemp that I did in 2 hours....because someone needed "urgently" to see cell id in today, Any way very soon double buffering "antiflickering" will be ready soon .

Nice. To make transparent buttons CMP takes the color of the pixel x=0,y=0 and uses this color as "transparent color". One thing more. Windows CE dont use "Alpha transparent" feature...... Microsoft doc says...

The TransparentImage function supports all formats of source bitmaps. However, for 32-bpp bitmaps, it just copies the alpha value over.

When CMP is in LAC mode it has certain intelligence. In this mode all the Cells found in your current place are associated automatically to that place. Its very usefull in big cities where places can be under 1 LAC but 6 or 7 cells (my home, for example).

So I am in CELL mode.
I have a 3 rooms and each room seems to registers a cell. All 3 somehow got associated with my Home profile ( the only one I have so far ).

Would be nice to have phone switching to quiet "bedroom" profile, when I'm there sleeping, loud profile when I am in my living room watching TV or listening to music and Wi-Fi or BT to auto sync-up with the desktop in my office.

This app rocks. The possibilities are endless ... loving it.

Couple of observations with my 750. I believe this has to do with the 240x240 screen. The CMP screen seems to want to overlap pieces and parts. The Place description(HOME as I call it) covers up 0-101-0(not sure what this is) but after the numbers change, then it is ok..So this is only temporary.

Also when on the DIALOG tab, the screen is too big for my device. I can see buttons below that I cannot get to. Need to resize for smaller devices or add a scroller.

Next...No WIFI on this device so it would be nice not to have the button. I am afraid to see what it does as it could potentially crash.

Next...The scheduling of PLACEs...I am assume this to be like a profile(settings like 2G, sound, etc?) should probably have the ability to set by DAYs and TIME. That way I can set a WORK profile for just the days that I plan to work. CELLIDs may cover this situation but not sure yet since I weak coverage in certain places.

Two requests: One for changing PLACEs/Profiles based on Calendar entries...if for example I am in a Meeting from calendar then I set it to <busy>. would be nice to have a MEETING place for that(ie. vibrate, etc).

Second request is for having different volumes for places. Night time, I like to run off notifications volumes like SMS and EMAIL but would want the PHONE volume the highest(to wake me up if needed).

Hi. Nice to see It finally worked in your 750. Its very important for me because I dont own a 240x240 device so your feedback will be nice. I only cant test over square vga emulator. I ve to adapt the screens to this resolution, dont doubt it
It doesnt matter 750 hasnt wifi. CMP should detect it. Is your wifi button gray?, my old s200 hasnt wifi and this situation is detected so button turns gray and disabled (Band button too).
One important thing in the "to-do" list is be able to select the week days where a schedule has effect...
For the first request you can use the "Lock place" feature. So you can create a "Busy" place (no need to associate cells or lacs), associate a 24 hours schedule for it and then select if before the meetings (place button->Lock place->Select "busy place"). After the meetings select "unlock" place again....
The second request is already in my list :D

Didn't tried the latest version yet to see if I no longer have the freezes when receiving/making calls.
I'll do that tomorrow because this weekend om on duty (on call guard) and can't take the risk my HTC freezes and I'm no longer reachable (my boss won't be happy I guess :D )

I guess that on your todo list also the possibility to import cell names from a database (or textfile) is still present ?

The error was another memory related one. I will get your new version tonight. I think it brought the whole compact framework down because I had to reset to be able to start comm manager again.

I have a question, it told me there is a new version. I fell a little uneasy about this. Your app is communicating over the network when I am connected. This makes me nervous because these devices have no firewall and the security of these devices (ie access to data) is nothing compared to desktop platforms. What exactly is being communicated and how can I stop this communication?

I had to uninstall last night. I know this is a USER Issue but the phone keep restarting the radio for some reason or another. When it did, it kept steping on my PhoneAlarm settings, turning on Bluetooth and 3G(which I don't have at home - therefore no signal). I will re-install when you get a few more features installed.

I am scared to leave installed during the evening hours as it might wake me up(he he - I value my sleep) and I do need to have the phone "alive" 24/7 for work.

As far as manually invoking Places, I guess I am just lazy and wanted the phone to auto switch based on calendar entries or simply the CMP scheduler.

Hi. Cmp doesn't open a connection to check new versions. each 48 hours tries to check the latest version only when the user opens a connection. So if the user doesn't connect internet cmp will never check version. And to check the version I attacks a servlet that returns a number. It means arround 40 bytes traffic data. Anyway next version has a option to enable/disable automatic checks.
I don't know why your device hanged while speaking but I hope to find that "situation" sometime......As I told before I try to look for it doing docens of calls but no luck,no errors.

Other people had this problem because the y had selected the option "on ac full power" or had scheduled a default frame for the default place.this isn't a bug but probably isn't clear for the user how to set the actions. Next version will plan all the actions as "no change" by default to avoid this situations...

1) all the items must have a disbled icon because some devices may not have wifi,bluetooth,3G....
2)You can assign all the size to the image without space between the ima and the border but I thing the program should write the lower texts because of lenguage issue.
3) by now related with bars you can set the border,lower icons and initial color and final color(for gradient)

Minor bug:

Everytime I install an update it will go back to LAC mode (but I normally use Cell-ID mode). I change it back within options and everything is fine. Just to mentoned it... ;)


BTW never had a data integritiy failure again. So that seems to work fine.

Well another great idea, but probably for a "plugin": read GPS data every couple of minutes, take the provider, the LAC & CellID and send that data via http to a web-server. So we could really have a map of all Cell/LAC IDs any user ever visited.

Or just a little API where someone else could read the LAC/Cell-ID from. So we could do our own plugins ;)

as you want skizzo. The height of the plugin should be small to leave room for other plugins. Anyway in the xml file you can set the height and width of the images. The space is filled only by images so no border and no text. So you have 240 horizontal pixels to share between the images and the text of the current place. The width of the text will be 240 minus(6 x icon width). And you can specify the width you want. CMP will compress or expand the images if their size arent the same than the one specified in the xml file...

There is a little api based on windows messages to control CMP and listen events from it,like changes of location,bt status...Indeed today plugin uses this api to comunicate with CMP.

I Googled at least 2 databases/software: cellDB / cellTracker (http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=138838)and CellSpotting (http://cellspotting.com/webpages/cellspotting.html).

Not sure what the issue was - maybe providers changing cellIDs, maybe it is not accurate enough or maybe wider GPS availability shadowing this ...

The width of the text will be 240 minus(6 x icon width). And you can specify the width you want. CMP will compress or expand the images if their size arent the same than the one specified in the xml file...

yes,that is truth. I read about it years ago. Maybe the key is joining gps and gsm location systems or maybe this way is a lost battle....

Installed latest version yesterday (no longer on call/guard hehe) & using the today plugin:
And again 2 freezes within a few hours (one when adding an appointment in calendar and one when in Sound & Notifications menu).
After the 2nd freeze I even had to perform 2 Reboots..
So disabled the today plugin.
This morning again a freeze (while doing nothing..) & after a reboot Wifi was on (is always off) & 3G (instead of 2G)...

Without commmgrpro I almost have no freezes.

its very interesting the conflicts between cmp and your device. Its a pitty I havent your device and install debug tools to see the source of your problems. Anyway I would like to know two things:
1) how much time lasts the freezes? in this time you cant interact with the cmp or with the device?. Yesterday I had a freeze in my jobs device(tynt wm5) but no cmp installed there, during 10 secs and when I was going to reboot then All came to live. I hope to see that problem in the other pda because I ve installed many debug tools on it. So finally i ve installed cmp and tools on job's device

3) you say after reboot wifi and band changed of state. It seems when the device freezed a new period or location was happening and the actions were being executed. It would be very nice if you could upload your database to let me examinate it. It should be there althought you ininstalled it.
4) I will post a debug tool. After a anomalous situation or hang or freeze or crash then you can export a text file from this tool so I will know exactly what was doing cmp before and after the problem. This tools is ver easy to use,very low footprint and resources and hasnt impact on device's performance.
5) now 80 per cent of the work is executed by worker threads to avoid blocks (what you call freezes) because of periferical that responds slowly like band manager or wifi and leave the device blocked for a while So I will change it and will process 100 x 100 of tasks in background. I hope it solves those situations..

Maybe this is also important to know:

I have 2 today plug-ins installed since a while:

1) Device Status (DevState_1_5_bld547). This one is always activated on my Todayscreen.The main reason of use is that it shows the programs which are still running in the background and the possibility to close them all at once.And the indication of Memory in Use for programs.
2) Batterystatus extended version (1.04.201 beta 3). This one is installed but not in use (desactivated from the todayscreen options / items) since several weeks.

If you select menu/data/check integrity you will be reported your database is corrupt. Next time delete the database before start(cmp will create a new one from scracth) or select menu/data/format to delete it. I hope your problems are because of it.
Its recomend(in beta stage) to backup the database (menu/data/backup) frequently and check the integrity (menu/data/check).

Ok. Finally i saw the device freezing. Watching log files it was because of diferent threads in the same process were iterating the notification system queue. Theorically It is allowed by microsoft documentation but in this case it caused a freeze. So now all the threads uses a mutex to only one access this queue concurrently. I hope this was the problem. If it isnt I will continue looking for it. Please people with freezes could you install it?
PLEASE-------> Deactivate the today plugin before install.

yes. stability is making me crazy because I only saw the hang once. I guess this problem is solved right now (or very soon if not) to continue solving functionality issues and adding more features.

Hi. Today i discovered a situation that potentially could cause a freeze althought It didnt. It was a buffer overrun logging a debug line. Althought you havent installed debug tools this information is generated and formatted by CMP but no processed by any tool. Anyway, ALL the buffer memory operations have been replaced by secure ones that truncate blocks copy if are bigger than buffer. This update is VERY recommended.

this option tells cmp to put all ON when is connected. Uncheck this option in all your place/schedules to avoid it. The pourpose of this feature is ,if the device is connected then isnt necesary to save battery so it turns on all the items(bt,wifi,3G,...)

Debug tool.
I have uploaded a debug tool. When is installed it logs any CMP activity. If you detect any problem, hang or whatever then activate this app (tapping the blue tray icon or clicking in programs/ICA Log) after the problem occurs (it will bring log server to front) and select menu "Acciones / Exportar Archivo". This will create a txt file in the device root directory with very valuable information about what was doing bmp before the problem. Send me this file with a description of the problem and It will speed much the bug fixing process.

V0.9.0.14 has a big "anti-hang" improvement too. I hope finally to remove any problem. Treating concurrently all the comm periphericalls isnt being a easy issue. But dont doubt all the problems will be fixed.

Automatic updates server is down since sunday so you cannot update using device. Use web site instead. Now I am out Madrid so cant fix it but will be up in few days (I come back on sunday).

By now there isnt posibility to edit by hand the database because It is Windows EDB standard (same format used to store contacts, tasks, mails, .....) and there arent free tools to edit this. but I plan to do an option to import/export to xml file. It gives the user the posibility to edit this info or make Pc program to manage this info. Indeed my initial idea was to make a database based in xml instead of EDB but the performance was poor. The error could be caused by a previous hang. It can be simply a orphan child, this is, for example, a record in the table "actions" that hasnt parent (registry in schedule table). So dont worry about it. Only format database if the program crash. If you install the debug tool and then check integrity you will see the source of the integrity error (maybe in spanish but I can translate :)). Log lines have a severity flag (DEBUG, INFO, WARNING, ERROR).
By now I will try to manage profiles because I havent seen tools that manages all that I need (bluetooth, wifi, spearker, phone, connections and band).

Yes. if Band switching is required ( not in my case :-), then it is a show stopper. Otherwise mentioned programs do an excellent job.

Although I am using this thing since January and very happy with it, I haven't got a chance to poke around pocket zen phone docs and forums. So this is great finding. Thanks ! I "think" it also takes skins / icons. The only feature I miss in PZP is the timed profile - i.e. "enable quiet profile for 30 mins".

Could you install the debug tool (http://www.commmgrpro.com/db5/00454/commmgrpro.com/_download/ConfiguracionICALog.ARMV4.CAB). Start this tool, then start CMP, wait to see the problem and then in this tools select "Acciones/exportar" (Actions/Export). It will create a file in the root of your device similar to ica log.txt2007-04-04_01-22-52.txt and post this file.....It will tell me what is happening in your device..

hehe I know. The program is structured to be translated into diferent dll resource files but I will wait to a very stable version. Skizzo you know italian right?:D
1) As you want. Then you can specify for each image what you want but normally you will set transparent because a space is needed to write the text
and transparent image will be used normally. And remember to take pixel 1.1 for transparent color
2) Alpha channel makes a smooth transition to transparent color. As you read, you can use it if your images ar 24 bits color or less......

I click on mail, see it get highlighted, but poutlook would not pop up. Or I'd click on SPBs picture contacts tab, I'd see my contacts, I'd be able to highlight the person's picture, select "send text message", but nothing would happen. I could unhide cmp, do the export, connect to the desktop and transfer the ica log.txt to the desktop. attached. Right now nothnig workx, including the shell and cmp, except the power button.

its surprising I will check the log. Since I never saw that issue in my 3 test devices (tynt,s200 and universal) and the team of 15 testers signed in the web havent reported something similar I can only think in interactions between cmp and other program you ve installed. Could you tell what software have you installed to load a clean device with same software like you?

- A bug is into scheduling... when i try to schedule a new event, when i create it, the minutes cannot be decreased/increased. Once created the schedule, if i modify it, i can set minutes

- not properly a bug, but when i disable something like BT or WiFi, it asks me how long it have to be disabled... it's annoying for me, if i disable... i want to disable (by the way this function is very useful enabling it)

- A "to do" : since the BEAM function drain some battery, i have disabled it, but sometimes (when receiving via BT) it's useful... to enable/disable it, just edit a reg value:

1) It isnt a bug properly talking but I have to change it. In the meantime when you cant change a fiel,hour or minutes, select the other time control and select again the field of the first control. It will let you to modify the two time controls. Tomorrow I will research about it.
2) you are right and many people has told me the same. The initial idea was if you turn on bt but want to disable some minutes. Its in my list to remove it.
3) Nice suggestion. added.
4) I dont know tga files but will research about it (now traveling by car)
5) the first list of the actions page shows places and the second one shows time frames for that place. If you have more than one frame for a place and it doesnt appear in the list when you select that place send me your database because it should be shown.

ops,did you install cmp in sd card? If so I will reinstall cmp in storage card be sure its a source of troubles because because cmp reads and writes very often to the database and if it dissapears (I have that problem too with my card) it will hang cmp for sure.
Second worry. The other people with often hangs has installed spb plus too. (one year ago this program caused many problem with other system tools). I will install them and test againn.

1) ... the minutes cannot be decreased/increased. Once created the schedule, if i modify it, i can set minutes
I second on that minor, but very annoying detail. As well as having to pop open the keyboard manually.

2) you are right and many people has told me the same. The initial idea was if you turn on bt but want to disable some minutes. Its in my list to remove it.

I may be wasting my breath/cycles here talking about what and how and for how long to enable/disable bt,wifi, radio - as profiles managers can do that better right now and until you'll have a full blown "profiler" coded, it makes more sense for me to call an external one ...

But the radio ... Radio off for 5-15-30 at the start or end of a schedule is an exception I would like to see asap.
If I turn the radio off, then ... of course I can't read cell IDs ...

Let me explain why I want that feature, if you will.
I take a subway every day twice or more. My average ride is 20 - 30 mins.
Riding subway to work and back I listen to learn Spanish ( or French ) audio books and take notes or read news on my Hermes.
During the ride, most of the time there is no signal underground, but on some stations I do get a weak signal - that part is really killing me - the radio sees the beacon and attempts to reconnect. That drains the battery and slows down the device when I am trying to type my notes or read. With WM6 and few latest radio I have tested, the matter got even worse - with every re-connects attempt, my bluetooth connection gets drooped with audio redirected back to the Hermes and the whole car is now is enjoying ( or not ) "Senior Gordon, usted habla Espagnol mue bien ... Qunata costa esta boteiila ?" loud and clear ... So I have to struggle with my briefcase, overcoat, jacket, belt, Hermes case to pull the sucker out and turn the volume down, smiling like a moran at the person squished like a sardine next to me.

So having Hermes to turn the phone off when I approach the subway for 20 mins and then maybe prompt me to turn it on, prompt with countdown, or simply turn it back on, would be a great deal.

I did also try the Phone Alarm, liked it a lot, but found it to be a bit overloaded with the features I do not need.
For the sake of making CMP stable, I'll be willing to remove SPB Plus, but will have to find a replacement for the SPBs repeating alarm.
Can you recommend anything small and reliable ( is "reliable" term valid in M$ world yet :-) ?

In your logs I havent seen cmp blocks, this is, commands started but not finished or commands executed in looooong time but keep on sending logs because Its the only way I have to debug. When you see something strange then "acciones/exportar" in debug tool. Only have seen 2 errors trying to interact with blackberry connection but it didnt cause errors or freezed in that moment. I will install spb pocket plus in one device. If this product is very important, of course, dont uninstall you :). Only do it if you can.

Moisha I have detected a very very very high number of timer notifications (decens in some seconds). Could you tell me how many notifications there are in your notification queue? I ve attached a nice freeware to check this queue and clean it. More than 120-150 is a anomalous situation and causes known problems for programs based in time notifications, like alarms, pims, etc....I need to discard possible error causes.....

I had about 90 of them. I cleaned up the duplicates and that brought the number down to 30. Also noticed that Blackberry Connect was initially set to store attachments on mSD card. Changed to the ROM.


Text entry field covered by kb

So here it is again - the text entry field and virtual keyboard. Now it's not just a nuisance, but rather a bug.
Open any Actions tab, try to type in the "Open File" text field - the virtual keyboard covers up the entry field and one can't see what he is typing in :-(. Workaround - a very twisted one - sliding h/w keyboard, rotate the screen 90, rotate the head 90 degrees in opsite direction:-), now type. Why rotate the screen ? Same reason the action tab does not resize and no scroll bar i landscape mode.

My neck hurts a bit, but nevertheless I managed to type "\\Program Files\PZPTolls\PZPTools.exe SetMode 4" in the "open File" field, clicked OK and got the below.

OK. /me tired now, neck hurts, CMP crashed. Nothing to loose now. Oh, BTW, CMP would not stay up for longer that 5 mins tonight, so I formated the data anyway like an hour ago and was about to re-create the home schedule.

"Abort Retry Ignore" - what happen with the MS classic one "Abort Retry Fail" ? Or another one I really liked in MS Windows 3.0 was the postmortem dialog with only one big "OK" button after the application crashes. That was "OK" to Bill Gates ;-)

Anyways, the device was crawling ( dead slow ) after this accident and I had to SR it.

* almost forgot - one more. Something happened with displaying the Cell IDs on "Places" tab - it used to be 5 digit numbers and since .14 version I see only 3 digits.

Problems confirmed with some spb products
Today installed spb pocket plus. cmp closed seversal times. I thought cmp crashed but NO¡¡. Watching logs It received several WM_CLOSE messages from other application. Incredible¡¡. Ok start cmp again and several microsoft stl shared dll errors windows ?????:confused: :confused: :confused: . Finally start cmp and sereral general freezes. Soft reset needed. Obviously cmp hates pocket plus or pocket plus hates cmp. Maybe they fiight for shared resources. IN the meantime I ve solved the "three digits" bug and removed today plugin to isolate debug process. Could you install this version V0.9.0.15 and uninstall spb products for 24 hours?

1) Just discovered some conflicts between spb products and cmp.
2) Today plugin removed to isolate debug process.
3) Fixed some format bug introduced in v0.9.0.14 when memory format functions were replaced
4) Time controls problem fixed
5) SIP support for text controls (Works on WM5 but seems WM6 doesnt react to to it. Researching it....)
6) Please deactivate plugin before upgrade


pd: If cmp closes and botton try icon dissapears It means no crash but gracefully close because user or windows or other application sent close message to cmp. It cmp closes but tray icon is there then is a crash.

Just installed task manager,very recomended tool, because of huge slow down process when pocket plus plugin activated. CMP v0.9.0.15 running so no today plugin. As you can see shell32.exe process (this process executes today plugins) eats much cpu. I continue researching.....

(and as I a side problem, last night I left work... went home, where I have the phone turn to full ring), but later I went back out and drove past work.. and the phone switched to vibrate again even tho I was just driving by).

freezes conclusions:
1) CMP have bugs for sure because It is in beta stage.
2) Until today no freezes with cmp in tynt without pocket plus devices (well, one or two in two weeks)
3) Today installed spb pocket plus and sereral system freezes with soft reset need
4) Its very unlikely a user process can cause a general freeze of the system because they uses its own space process and dont affect the others. Today plugins run hooked the system process Shell32.exe (privilege process) and they can cause freezes. This is very documented in development forums.
5) googling I found hundreds of entries with text "spb pocket plus freezes device" talking about these freezes with devices with pocket plus installed.
6) Test devices without pocket plus (tynt, s200 and universal) and many test-users without pocket plush hasnt freezes (or the usually number of them).
7) After uninstalling pocket plus no more freezes today.
8) So by now I wont spend more time with freezes in devices with pocket plus. This problem is driving me crazy and I ve to use "clean devices" for testing and no freezes in clean devices.
9) So i will continue fixing bugs and developing skin engine.
10) pocket plus user: I hope to find some day the problem with pocket plus.

Yes. Numbers control has been fixed in v0.9.0.15 (works in both wm5 and wm6) and now SIP (soft key) goes up in edit controls. Buuuuut the last works in WM5 but not in WM6. I couldnt research about it. I will try building a only wm6 release. Anyway I will find a solution that works in both systems (the api function that brings up the sip simply dint work in wm6)

Default conn is used when you have set more than one connection. Then "default" connection is used when you select "connect" in main panel....

It will apply the actions and will lock them until you go out the car and select "unlock place". When you are in "locked mode" changes of location dont affect the current place and settings...

I have also limited my "work" to working hours so that if I drive by later should be no effect. Nothing happens when my schedule expires (that would be like the exiting case we already talked about).. but I could set up a schedule to turn the ringer back on just before I leave very day?

yes. The lack of "exit schedule actions" can be simulated,by now,creating a new time frame schedule when your work labour finishes,lets say, from 18:00 to 18:01,executing the actions you want...(hehe but not leave job before time).

The PDA sets the actions on EVERY CELL CHANGE.. due to this, my choiches are cancelled. Would be useful that CommMGR pro applies the actions on EVERY "CELL GROUP" CHANGE. So if i activate the wifi for 30 mins at home, it works for 30 min (or until i change location), and not until the pda switch cell (also if it's of the same group).

this is very important, because otherwise, on every manual action changing, you have to lock the place (and there are too many tap to do), and you can also forgive to unlock it.

The same think is for example, if i want to open a jpg when i go at Home: it will open the jpg on EACH chell switched pertaining to Home cells

For the skin... i hope we need a "locked" image for every place (or a lock that can overlay the image)

Hi skizzo.
If you are in a place and for example you turn on wifi (and default is wifi off) then this action is cancelled only if you change time frame or place BUT no cell id. So if you change Cell Id but the new cell is associated to the previous place(this is,change of cell or lac but no change of place) the wifi must continue on. Indeed wifi must continue on
except when you enter in a new place (place,not lac or cell) or the current time frame changes....
For the locked place maybe we could apply an special background color or filter efect. What do you think?

anyway there is something I ve to change in wifi action. If the wifi device looses the link with the network or there arent networks the the button turns red. this is,the button is green if scanning for networks or connected. I will change it because It is a source of confussion.
Forget the idea of a filter. I think an overlay image is a nice idea :)
Today I come back home so the project will go on. I guess to finish the first version of skin engine in few days.

SkizZO, one tip.
CMP allows to use differents images when the button is pressed or unpressed but in the current version both are the same. Maybe you want to use this feature. It is usually used to add a kind of animation effect. See <image> tags:

Very strange. No one has reported similar issues by now in V0.9.0.16. . I only can think about a corrupt download. have you tried to download it again?. It seems some program is using the cpu at 100%. Can you install Taskmanager(free) to see if any program is doing it?.

By now CMP detects Resolution and Orientation and works in VGA. The VGA layout isnt very pretty (It is automatically generated)but works. Anyway first version of Skin engine will be ready this week and allows different layouts for Square, QVGA and VGA. Skizzo is working on his first skin.

For VGA... once completed the qvga.. we can give it a try.. however for the end of april i have to finish a website first.

..For the highlighted buttons with the D-Pad.. can be make a glass effect with a trasparent button, but that NEED an alpha channel.

However i have no problems to make all images, perhaps maybe that the trasparent image occupies the triple space.. however someone + able than me can do better with an overlayed pressed image..

I hope we are around the 700Kb of space only for the skin (i have never quantified it, only the buttons are ~400Kb, todays transparent images are a little big)

dont worry. Overlay image is optional and pressed images too. Pressed images maybe could be used when the focus is in the button. In this way when the user uses the jog dial there would a pretty effect. What do you think?
More things. Soon I will start with strenght bars. Any idea would be nice now. May long images (f.e. thermometer) and cmp cuts it according the percentage. Or maybe cmp doesnt cut it but could apply a gray filter in the upper part (f.e,if level is 75 then part 76-100 would be grayed or something similar.

ok, if you can build cmp in a way that it cut an image, according to the percentage, UNDER a mask i hope there are *a lot* of skinning possibilities, for example, i can do a thermometer with a trasparent vertical area that is the mask, and put an image with a gradient in background that cmp cut according to the signal/battery percentage.

Edit: However i hope that the pressed images can be used when the focus is in the button.. but no more than 5-8 sec..

Hey daniel, great work so far, I don't know if it has been discussed before (didn't read the entire thread) but there is one feature that is really missing for me, being able to control the volume level...

I would love to be able to set the volume level at a normal level during the day except for in the morning where I use my phone as an alarm, so during this timeframe I would love to be able to set the volume level to maximum, any idea whether you could add this to your great app?
