shortly... I'll be cooking my own ROM anyway, however, for now, could you good chaps consider incorporating HardSPL 1.13 into your NBH images... most people on these forums are (for want of a better word) fuckwits and it'd really avoid problems if Hard-SPL was flashed as a course of the update.

obviously I can't force anyone to do anything at all, but please consider it.

Oli, thanks for your efforts etc., etc., all obeisance to Oli. I for one, however am not a "fuckwit" and I don't agree with you that "most people on these forums" are. My opinion, but there you go.

There are some thoughtless, ignorant twits here, no doubt about it, but technical knowledge doesn't exclude someone from that group.

I think your attitude towards most of us is pretty clear, thank you, it shows in every other post that you put up here. But you know something, it says more about you than it does about us. I guess the mods around here tolerate the chip you carry around on your shoulder because of your fine technical contributions, but really, man, your indecency is, well, indecent.

I can guess what your response will be. I have seen it before, and expect no change, so have at me, mate. I can take it.

Damn, I don't know why I am even bothering with this. It just needed saying.

Then obviously he wasnt referring to you... I think what he was trying to say is that these people that just float in from wherever, try to flash a rom without reading then expect us to fix it.... People dont understand that this is a developers board, not hofo, or any other noob board and shit happens.. Everyone who comes here gamble's with their expensive device, and when they loose the bet because they didnt care to read, then they come crying to us to fix it... so now the developers are finding themselves in a tight spot, and that is to make it somewhat noob friendly to a certain extent since wm6 is dropping all over the place and everybody and their mother wants to flash it....

I wont argue that maybe olipro should have used a different term to describe to make it less offensive, but in the other hand Olipro has the right to b!tch, Olipro is a major contributing factor on where we are today and has given us lots of useful stuff....

Most of the time when you see a major player such as olipro make a post like this its usually because they are being harrassed via pm by someone who didnt take the time to read.. its food for thought!

Hi, Shogunmark, fellow "exile" from the Cingular forum. ;) You know I respect your contributions and in this case, your opinion about my post. Thanks for posting on this.

I still can't believe I cared enough to write on this, but realize that it's not the first time Olipro has been rude and offensive. That's him, I guess, but I his contributions would be much more valuable if they were offered with more respect.

I witness with admiration the guys that are way up there on the valuable contribution scales, yourself included, that show unbelievable patience and generosity even in face of the dumbest, most annoying and irksome ignorance and lack of manners. I won't list them, you know who you are, I have sent you sincere thanks and/or contributions, or will do so shortly. There are some awe-inspiring "mensches" around here.

None of this matters in the big picture. Oli, a sincere thanks for your contributions, carry on, excuse me if I have offended you. That wasn't my intent.

I won't be around here much anyway, most likely. This has been a great learning experience, but the fact that I am writing this and my previous post in this thread shows that I have to tweak my priorities instead of spending so much time on a stupid machine and getting so caught up with some of the silliness that goes on here, as shown by my reaction to this thread. :(

Kind regards,

Ben

P.S. I agree with you. Shogun, about people that come in here and screw their device up and then come crying. Some of you veterans around here and Mr. Pohlman (?) should think about placing a small "toll" to get into this currently non-exclusive club. This should be a very exclusive club, and the elementary economic device of charging to get in would be an effective filter to keep a lot of the idiots out, and at the same time raise some $$$ for XDA!

Current members of say six months or whatever is decided, could be grandfathered in. Certain members under that time could be given a pass, or maybe not. Certainly, anyone who has contributed a lot would be honorary members. Myself, I wouldn't mind having to pay a small (nominal I think the business types say) fee. Or maybe not, that might be enough to help me make my decision to try to break this addiction and ban this too-fascinating site from my browser forever ;)

Best regards, "Shogun" and to the others that have had the patience to bring me along here, to become a "Senior Member" but who will never know 1% of what they do! Gracias, amigos!

I personally do agree with Shogun comments completely. The truth of the matter is some days are good and others are bad. If you catch me on a bad day, you may get a lot worst than what OLipro said. It could have been said a little differently but it was not and I was not offended by his comments.

Now the question that came to mind was why am I responding to this? The answer is to say may be you are having a bad day too. That is okay we are all humans (I think):D

seriously though; when I say "most" I'm afraid to say that the majority here are people who can't be bothered to read the thread/wiki, can't be bothered to speak proper english (unless they can't help it) or just ask stupid questions because they can't be bothered to try it themselves, and you know what? it's really bloody draining to answer the same mind-numbing questions that you already answered time and again, so yeah, I do have a bit of a chip on my shoulder... but it's not directed at you buddy.

Also, those that start out lazy, but then get up off their arses, as we can see in a recent thread, I'm quite happy to help.

the FACT of the matter is this (my personal view).

1) We are not HOFO
2) This is a developer board
3) you come in here risking your warranty if you flash certain things
4) We are not responsible for your decision to flash
5) if you do take the plunge, RTF-WIKI first!
6) The more nagging that goes on, the less motivated we will be

Thats my 2 cents....

I'm not here releasing stuff to encourage people to kiss my ass (although feel free :P) and the frustration does get to me... but by no means should you allow yourself to lose any sleep over it or get upset...

Or even so simple as to gain access, you much complete a 20 question quiz comprised of the top 20 most asked questions that can easily be answered by reading the wiki! That way, in order to gain access to the exclusive forum, people will have to at least read enough that they can probably then fix their problem on their own just by searching for the answers :)

Phew - I thought that you had secretly enabled the GPS in our TyTN's and had slipped a tracking program into the SPL so you can track all us dumbasses down and 'brick us'

I think you should change your sig to:

Hi,

I can't afford 2 cents.........

From the front page and quote:

"Since we develop software for it, we need information, and nobody seemed eager or ready to give us what we needed. So we 'reverse-engineered' the devices, found a lot of information, and shared it with the world. But as our site grew we realised that lots of ordinary users were also suffering from a lack of support. They started using the xda-developers forum to communicate and before long the forum was as much a user forum as it was a developer forum.

We hope that you will enjoy this site and find it as useful as we do. We encourage you to donate or otherwise support this site. Of course absolutely all proceeds from donations will benefit this community."

From Administrator and quote:

We have over 190.000 pageviews a day, more than 140.000 registered members and an average of over 500 users online at the same time!
Ad space is available on our portal page, forum and wiki.

Newbie fuckwit here... So what? ;)

I only bought my first PPC in December, used it for a couple of days, decided that it needed "tweaking" and ever since I've been lurking here, learning a lot and enjoying the work of all of you guys. Thank you very much!!!

So, someone decides to use funny names? What is the big deal??? Is it helping people to get off their lazy asses and read the Wiki? Maybe... but after all, people "learn" in different ways.

Why getting all excited about a few statements here and there? Am I a newbie here? Absolutely (even when I have developed embedded systems for 20 years). Am I a fuckwit? Sure... why not? Meanwhile, I now have a very nice WM6 PPC which works as my original Hermes never did.

Keep them coming and call me anything you want :D :D :D

Well said, I myself have only been a PPC user since August, the first post i made (when Hermes was merely a couple of weeks old) was THIS ONE (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=275315). Now since the hermes was in such an early stage there wasnt really alot about ROMs etc...

Needless to say the first reply was just a LOVELY (see sarcasm) introduction to xda-devs but I was unlucky. Since then I have learnt alot and done my best to direct new users to the correct resources.

But the one thing that annoys me is when a new thread is created and the answer to it is the thread below it! LOL!

I've only been a Hermes owner for a couple of months now, on the first day I got it I was able to unlock and SuperCID it and flash AKU 3.3... since then I've managed to advance to the level of farting around with IDA Pro and playing with the assembly, oh what fun.
