Erm... Ok, so I'm new to all of this....

First of all..... Thank you for the guide, I wouldn't have thought about flashing without it

Secondly, a problem....

I've updated the bootloader with HardSPLv7 but when I'm trying to load the ROM's it won't auto detect, all I get is a message saying "Error, Unknown version! You should pick SSPL"

Just really wanted to chect this is ok to do as I don't really need a paperweight.

Any help would be great.....

Pick "SPL - 2.02-2.10 New Bootloader" and tick the "IS it HardSPL?" box.

one question i have after installing JJ's wm6 shadow 4.0

i want to do the voice command and the vibra switch fixes, however when i download them i get (.cab's??) a file full of a bunch of system files and a .xml and i have no idea how to apply them to the device. active sync? bootloader? don't know anything about bootloader instructions as there are less guides for that

OK i found out how to install them! feel a little foolish. for the sake of anyone else with a similar problem & put in the time to seach, i left the question in

To install cabs, the way it worked for me was to be connected to the device with activesync (USB) and using the explorer, drag and drop the zipped .cab into "my mobile device"

when searching on the handheld, it seemed to appear in the MY DOCUMENTS folder. so not sure if you're supposed to drop it there or in the my mobile device when exploring. someone who knows better may be able to offer more info. hope this helps!

MrVanx, I also want to say how grateful I am for your guide. I have read the wiki and forums for a long time, but because I'm no techie I didn't have the confidence to go thru and actually flash as the information was geared towards 'developers'. But your guide is written in a way that is easily accessible to non-developers so much so that even a novice like myself managed to upgrade to WM6 with no problems at all.

Heres a plan!

Someone send Vanx a Trinity to keep, and I'm sure he'll very quickly write a whole web site full of guides for it.

I get so annoyed sometimes that people take for granted the hard work that all these VOLUNTEERS do for FREE.

I also know that there is no better way to motivate a geek than to send him a new toy!!

I really dig the whole getting something in return for hard work deal a whole lot more than listening to 1000 n00bs moaning and whining and making demands they have no right to make.

Thanks excellent guide just upgraded my M3100 to Black Edition only problem is my wifi doesn't work I get "There are no data sessions active..." I get the pylon icon but it doesn't search for any wireles connections?

Sorry, I've just read that there was another post with the same question and the answer was to select Spl 2.0..new bootloader and to thick the box "is it hardspl7"...I've not done yet, but I suppos I can procced like this.

Thanks MrVanx for all you do here... but I think I am stumped this time.

I am on Vista, and I have tried doing the hard-spl with the OLD driver, the new WMDC 6.1 driver....

I am at a loss for what to do... I just got a new 8525 (my old unit me an untimely death)

This unit was virgin when I got it, (had the new rom on it).

I did the POF supercid/sim unlock and then went onto the hard-spl, and hit a brick wall.

Any thoughts? I am using spl-1.40.olipro.

I read and used your guides too, and they are really top notch and make the process feel much safer for the nervous noob. Of course I read the wiki and dozens of threads first too, but having the guides was like having a pro nearby to oversee the process.

I used it for vp3g's ROM, which isn't part of the guides yet (why not???) but all the others were close enough and similar enough to use.

BTW, I also got the same error, and almost didn't flash until vp3g gave me much the same advice:

Pick "SPL - 2.02-2.10 New Bootloader" and tick the "IS it HardSPL?" box.

Just a suggestion, this seems common enough an occurrence to merit adding a fn to your guides.

sorry my mistake its 3.0.1, it was the most recent of the black. and its works really nice its just the problem with the active sync any solution for fixing it?

The latest version of Black IS black majik......use that sin ce there MANY MANY bug fixes, also make sure you do everything the guide says since theres a bit at the end on configuring AS.

Just upgraded to Blackmajik on Jasjam. Went to set up mms server, following your directions. No servers tab? Only new account comes up is for email. Any ideas. I am in Aus, connected to telstra, if that makes any difference.

Just wanted to say thanks to Mr Vanx for the hermes guides.

I recently upgraded to Black Majik, then had to downgrade to wm5 after dropping and smashing my M3100 in a T-Mobile store! (waiting on arrival of new phone via insurance).

Anyways I reckon I would have bricked the bugger during the upgrade/downgrade process if it wasnt for those easy to follow guides.

Here's a list of files I had to install after Black to iron everything out (they were all found on xda-developers - isn't the net great?!):

Radio 1.48 (for cell phone)
sms_providers.zip (for voice notification fix)
SPM_4378_02.cab (for WPA2-AES & WPA2-TKIP connections)
OrangeUK-rabbo.cab (not really necessary just easy way to set MMS prefs)

Big thanks to all the developers.

Many thankx to Mrvanx for his great and eaay to follow guides. Unfortunatley .......

I have flased other devices in the past - mainly blue angel with no problems.

Had an MDA Vario 2 for a couple of weeks and have spent that time researching WM6 upgrades.

I downloaded WM6 rom, radio and Hard SPLv7 as advised but cant get it to install.

I get error 262 - connection error. Have loaded .net 2.0 and tried both under vista with wmdc 6.1 and actiesync4.5 under XP - no joy.

I can sync normally under both oses but NOT when in boot loader ???

Any ideas

I follow the steps and i get to the point were it says you are now ready to update rom image and hit next it then wants a reply on my device to continue when i hit yes it goes to the ttri color screen looses it connection with my computer and the ruu program says it also lost connection.

I'm unable to sync with WMDC anymore. Is there anyway for me to roll-back the old Vista driver? Or maybe there is a solutions for my problem here.

From what you're saying, you were able to connect before and flash a rom but since the flash you can't? Sounds like the rom, not Vista.
I use vista and have been able to connect to every rom I used.
One trick you might want to try is to open the Task Manager in vista and close WMDC that way before connecting your device.

Before flashing the new rom, I replace the default WMDC driver with the one found in MrVanx Vista guide (http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=27)

Well... I don't really follow the tutorials completely. I update the driver without disabling the USB Connection.

FYI I flashed Schap's 4.20 yesterday and it's syncing fine in my XP. So I don't think it's ROM's issue.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling WMDC. That should reset the program to the original Vista Drivers.

Yes that will work fine, the best procedure is (in order):

backup everything
run the unlocker....carefully
install HardSPL
upgrade Radio
upgrade ROM

Hi, I'm presently using an MDA Vario (Wizard) and think it's time to upgrade to the VarioII (Hermes) for the better radio hardware (HSDPA instead of GPRS).
I've been using the SNN Ver2 ROM on my wizard and want to use something similar on the Hermes..
Is the flash process the same?

Just to confirm... this method will not work with Vista SP1 rite? Since they enforce signed drivers... not sure pressing F8 at boot and allow unsigned drivers will work or not ... didn't try it though

After flashing HERM_DOPODASIA_WWE_3.54.707.3_6275_CustomRUU everything seems to work fine , however the left scroll bars in menu's are not working, it will not let me use the left on-screen scroll bar, only the hardware keys work... anyone having this problem?? even better anyone have a solution :p

Thanks for your guides which appear easy to follow. I am on my first step of upgrading to HardSPL and as usual with my luck I managed to come across a problem that nobody else seems to have found.
Followed all the instructions in the guide exactly and all seemed to be going well and the PPC (it's a Vodafone 1605) restarted, then on the PC I got a message:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.
Access to the path
'C:\download\PocketPC\HardSPL\RomUpgradeUt.exe' is denied. "

I clicked Continue. The dialogue box went away and the process seemed to finish. I checked on the PPc and it seems to have worked so do I need to worry about the message?

I'm completely new to this. I've just acquired an HTC TyNT and tried (using a Vista laptop) to add the HardSPL ahead of any attempts to upgrade from WM5 to WM6. I followed the various tutorials exactly but after the procedure my TnTY is stuck in the Bootloader. Nothing I do will allow me to proceed (I've tried soft and hard resets). So I'm left with SPL 1.04 installed and no way to use the HTC.

I should add I have an HP 514 and that already has a version of WMDC installed on my laptop with all the latest drivers. When I first attached my TyTN by USB the correct drivers loaded and WMDC showed the TyNT connected. However now it refuses to recognise the HTC but still recognises the HP (when attached, I had it disconnected during the HardSPL installation).

Any help possible? Or am I the owner of a brick?

I was going to instal hard spl v7 then L26_WM_6.1_PRO_V3_CUBE_(3.51.502.0_WWE)

Thing is, when i run spl v7 instaler ( yep iv put the new drivers on my pc etc...) the kaiser restarts then the program tells me its not conected? But It did know it was conected as it detected the previous verson on there?
So, two questions...
1 how do i get around this
2 is the software i was going to put on the best to. I like all the htc bits and just was my device running smooth

pressing and holding the "OK" and "POWER" buttons together with stylus presseing the "RESET" (near the USB hub) will take you to the bootloader screen from wheich you can read your device current bootloader
PS you should read the instruction before thinking about any kind of upgrading since you are new to the whole stuff.

i have read the upgrading hardSPL guide. i tried to follow the instruction step by step.. but there's an error when i tried to run RUUWRAPPER.exe that said like this..

"RUUWRAPPER.exe - Application Error

Hi great forum!

I am trying to give my old hermes a new lease of life after a fraught flirtation with a Samsung Omnia. I am following the Hardspl guide but on Vista although the RUUwrapper exe works it fails to flash hardspl once its restarted the hermes in flash mode. (not finding the phne by the looks of it) If I try the same RUUwrapper in an xp pro virtual machine or an physical l xp pro laptop I get the following error... "The application failed to initialise properly (0xc0000135) Click OK to terminate. I presume as with all flashing XP is preferable to Vista.

Issue now resolved by installing .net 3.5 on XP host. Now its time to pick a rom1 and flash away!

Ok here we go. I am a complete noob to this deal. I have a decent amount of knowledge when it comes to computers, and have been reading and reading.

When I got my 8525 I upgraded from WM5 to WM 6 right away. I did this in an attempt to get what many people (that I could find at that time) described as an upgrade. Installed the ActiveSync 4.5 followed the instructions and watched my phone go all screwy. Scared the bejesus out of me, but she came back, and worked perfect. WHEW. First upgrade out of the way.

Then I thought I wanted an Iphony look. Tried one with a pretty decent tutorial, and hated it. I then went by the seat of my pants, uninstalled all the programs associated with the phoney thing and have been just plane ole WM6 ever since.

Now on to my question. I am looking to move to a touchflo 2D manilla design, like a couple on here. I have uploaded and done the HardSPL situation, worked first time no problem, checked it out and it is the 2.10 olipro now. Now here is the question. All the ROM's I like say WM6.1. Like Starbase's does this mean I need to find WM6.1 or that it includes WM6.1? I have gone from one thread to another for this and found basically nothing saying I have to upgrade to 6.1 first, but I also haven't found one saying I don't, and honestly, it scares me to just download a ROM and put it on my phone without knowing for sure that I am doing the right thing.

I also checked the guides, as that was how I knew about the HardSPL and such, but the guides don't say what I need to do as far as what many of these touchflo 2D ROM's are based off of, and if I need that 6.1 first.

I hope this isn't a stupid or previously asked question, I just went from one forum to the next on the Hermes to try to find the answer and since I couldn't I hoped that the guide thread was the right one to ask a noob question.

I have been trying to use my asus 3e running Xandros to talk to my HTC-Hermes running WM5... this is quite tricky. I believe it may get easier if I upgrade my OS from WM5 to WM6 on the phone and have downloaded HTC_TyTN_WWE_3.54.255.3_6275_1.48.00.10_108.exe which I believe will do the job and looks relatively straight-forward :)

However as the phone originally came from Orange and has been unlocked (currently PAYG with Virginmobile.uk) I'm worried that the upgrade will boot/reset the phone to orange. Can anybody tell me what is likely to happen?
I have also downloaded SPL-1.01MFG_Pack.zip and the how to instructions.

I do not want to end up seriously hacking the phone and will be quite happy if it talks to my 3e so if the wm5 to wm6 .exe file above is fine I'm not sure that I need the bootloader.

I am aware that I need to back up my phone data, contact lists, music & pictures etc but would I also need to back up the connection settings or is this info on the SIM.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Once your phone is unlocked, it should stay unlocked, never heard of it going back The file you downloaded looks like it should be the htc stock wm6. So, if you are using a different provider, you'll have to enter the providers info for being able to connect to the internet from the phone, calls should work as long as the sim is in there.

when i go to flash hardspl it does the verifying info. and then i click update my phone enters bootloader & the pc says error 260

put your device in Bootloader mode... hold the OK and POWER buttons and hit the reset hole once... wait for the tricolor screen, now you can release the other two buttons... IPL and SPL are your bootloader... well in fact is the SPL.

im a total newb at upgrading and all that
im about to attempt my first upgrade from WM5 to 6. i have a jasjam.
upon reading the instructions i tried to install HARDSPL into the jasjam.
I connect to windows mobile device centre and then run RUUWrapper.exe and i follow the process as shown by mwvanx. However as i hit the last "next button" and then the phone goes into bootloader mode.. i lose connection and it says "error 260: update error. The update utility cannot connect to your PDA phone." please check that it is connected properly etc
and then it makes me exit

I put the att original on the 2gb storage card over and over and over and renamed it HERMIMG.nbh over and over and over and just am flabbergasted. The phone is not bricked, it just refuses to flash again.

Does anyone here have any solutions or suggestions?

PS - I have formatted the card to fat32 and I have checked it for errors. The HERMIMG file is not in a folder and is on the root of the storage card.

To get to your original settings you must flash the stock rom, whih would be WM5. If it's the keyboard configuration games you want - you can download Advance Config 3.3 and it has an option or the type of keyboard. For the games look them up under google and I'm sure you'll find them.

I put the att original on the 2gb storage card over and over and over and renamed it HERMIMG.nbh over and over and over and just am flabbergasted. The phone is not bricked, it just refuses to flash again.

Does anyone here have any solutions or suggestions?

PS - I have formatted the card to fat32 and I have checked it for errors. The HERMIMG file is not in a folder and is on the root of the storage card.I have the same problem. Have you found solution?

The first thing to do is read the wiki : http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes

You can download original rom for your device @ htc.com if you want to return to original factory rom... just need to put in S/N (look on sticker below battery) to download.

i did step by spet the hspl:
1. download hardspl v7 from the first post.
2. extract ruu_signed.nbh and rename it to HERMIMG.nbh
3. copy it to a microsd card, make sure the card is formatted as fat32
4. download sspl-herm from here
5. extract SSPL-HERM.exe and copy it to your phone.
6. insert sd card and run sspl-herm.exe on the phone.
7. you should see the tri-color screen and then it should change to this
8. press power button to start flashing
9. reset when you get the msg that its done.

but when i tried to open the sspl-herm.exe on my device nothing happend...i've repeated the step one by one but i cant find a solution...please help
