Would be nice to look at, but your right, needs the code...
I signed up, but they were full, so maybe they'll send a code.

Looks like another teaser from MS.
If they want people to have a look/to test, why dont they just give it away??. Like they did for IE ???? Will only help fix the bugs!
Any codes?? Anyone??

Um, all it does is display a thumbnail of a web page? can't select anything on the page? um, what's the point? Am I missing something here?

hey above me, have you seen the iphone browser? it does that
I LOVE IT. This was one thing that the iphone DID have over windows mobile, and now we have it.
I do wish that the select button never had to be it. It should be all from the finger or stylus

Press the middle navigation button. then move up and down left right then press the button again. I guess you cant use the touch screen which really sucks

Doesnt look like this code is working any longer. I tried it and got a message saying it was unable to validate.
So I signed up on the MS page and hopefully they will send me a new code this year.

All we need is this Deepfish browser, direct Youtube video access, and more finger intuitive programs (like AC's Slide2Unlock, larna's iContacts, and Guybrush's SSContacts) ... and then there will never be a need to get an iPhooey.
The "My Phone can do more/better than yours" competition is a HTC/Microsoft win by knockout.

It's really cool.
stephano
4th July 2007, 09:10 AM
I don't see why it is so cool. All it does is it downloads the image of the website in crappy JPG. Even texts are in the jpg. No actual rendering happens on the device. Even the new Opera Mini beta in Java VM is better than Deepfish.
Microsoft should make the rendering on the device side.
Now, it is a website-image viewer.

thats to make up for the hardware definciencies of ppc's. They cant do it on their own. Have you tried using opera mobile? It does render everything on the ppc, and its constantly locking up for a 8 seconds while it renders, scrolling is really slow, and it still doesn't render pages exactly correctly. Why not let a server download the page, take a screenshot, and send you a page that your phone can actually work with?

I was wondering if there were people ouit there with an active deepfish code that aren 't interested in playing with the app any longer and wouldn't mind private messaging me their code so i can play with it for a bit? I know better than to post it as microsoft would shut it down and then no one will have it. Thank you and hope all is well!

I've been using it for months and find it a good alternative to PIE. Takes getting used to, but once you figure out everything can be done with the directional keys its a wiz to navigate and read web pages. Clicking sometimes can be a challenge but it works.

For those of us without a key I did some digging into the exe and packet sniffed the validation IP traffic. The app goes to one or all of the following:
http://crl.microsoft.com/pki/mscorp/crl/Microsoft%20Secure%20Server%20Authority(3).crl
http://corppki/crl/Microsoft%20Secure%20Server%20Authority(3).crl
http://www.microsoft.com/pki/mscorp/Microsoft%20Secure%20Server%20Authority(3).crt
http://corppki/aia/Microsoft%20Secure%20Server%20Authority(3).crt
crl => Certificate revocation list
crt => Certificate
Interesting they have internal hostnames listed. This is probably indicating even developers had to register against a validation server.
The server also communicates over HTTPS with registration.labs.live.com. (You can get this info from the Diagnosis menu option.) An invalid activation returns HTTP 401 (unauthorised), so potentially if one was able to emulate a server returning HTTP 200 it might be enough to validate..
EDIT: Also using the key from straff on the first page they are implementing a client side CRC check. If you change one digit the input box has an error below it. One might find CRC-valid keys such as 0000000011111111 and 1122334455667788 hoping MS would have left in an obvious key for developers.
Information for educational purposes.

I've been using it for a couple of months now, and i must say i love it - as a browser for checking sites who don't need authentication etc.
Does anybody now if there's an upcoming version coming soon? the current version is very limited and buggy.
