View Full Version : Do we need a 12 Step program for ROM Flashers?

Ok, maybe this shows the extent that I'm hooked, but I think I'm having "Flashing Withdrawls"...
All day long I've been hoping the new Faria Vanilla WM6 comes out so it would give me a reason to flash a new rom. Since I started flashing new ROMs (only a month or so now if you can believe that) I've been putting new roms on my phone every few days. It started simply with wanting to fix my Radio to get rid of problems I had, and trying out the 2.47 and 2.61 on the stock Cingular ROM. Then I decided to try out CID Unlocking and something called AKU 3.3. My eyes were opened, and the addiction had taken hold... But then I kept reading about the world of WM6, and had to move to that.
Soon I realized that WM6 MBE was the longest to stay on my phone (up until now) being on my phone for almost 5 days (imagine! 5 days on a single rom!!!). NotTooSmart then passed me the "beta" version of his reworking of the mUn ROM last Thursday to try out and I've been on it ever since. The beta actually became production with no changes and is the one that went live, so there was no reason to reflash the ROM. Its been working fantastic (couple of quirks here and there, but all the WM6 stuff have quirks, and most have more than what I've had based on stuff I read here)... So thats 7 days now without doing another flash.
I keep looking at my phone and feel like it needs to be hooked on the USB to my laptop and flashed... I miss seeing the BootLoader screen... I miss the anxiousness of waiting for the bar to hit 100% and the phone reset to a new OS.
I hear the call of new ROMs like X-Plore's that is so tempting to try, but I've told myself I'm holding out. I have something that is working, and I don't need to try it... But it keeps calling... I'll wait for Faria's Vanilla first... Or can I???
I've even started cooking my own splash screens. I've started thinking about dabbling in the "kitchen" to start really "cooking" with Molski's tools.. Then I think about the Molski roms I haven't tried. And there's that Superrom and others (but can I really go back to WM5 now?)
I've even started thinking about pinging coworkers at work that have 8125's to see if they want me to "upgrade" their phones... Pass on the addiction and get them "hooked"...
I have it bad...

I'll be the second to join your 12-step club for addicted ROM flashers!! I've now talked a co-worker into buying the 8125 just so I can teach them everything I know and flash their's to the "latest and greatest".
Don't know that we'd be much support for each other trying to kick the habit, or not, though. But, we could sure share some stories and compare notes. . . :D

My name is NotTooSmart,
I am an addict just the same, but I think my addiction goes deeper. Im a chef. And it kills me that I have written an almost perfect rom and I keep breaking out the tools, but cant think of anything to cook on it. I must have dumped the NotTooSmart ROM a hundred times, but never go through with the cooking. I need help!!! Someone asked me to write a WM6 for the apache, so of course Ive tried starting, but my 8125 looks so lonely when I even think about it. I guess I will have to live with this addiction, at least till I get my TyTN or I end up with a brick.

If we took those clear plastic adhesive screen savers and just printed screen shots of every new ROM to come along onto them, us addicts could just stick them on our Wizards and feel like we actually have the "newest".
Might call it......The Patch!

I think I might have a problem. rkwhyte2 – my wife hates my phone with a passion as well. As we lay in bed at night she asks what am I thinking about and before I can answer she say 'that stupid phone' and gives me an elbow to the gut. Does anyone else lay in bed at night until their spouse falls asleep to sneak off to get another fix and flash a new rom in the wee hours of the morning...or is that just me?!?

Oh damn...dejavue. I have been down that road several times. The wifes hates the phone and she hates the computer. What am I to do I'm a network administrator and also in charge of the phones. I eat and sleep this stuff and it drives her crazy. Somehow the statement that I was in IT when we got married doesn't mean anything to her anymore.

A few weeks ago when XDA-Developers went offline, I was positive they had blocked it from me at work. I actually panicked a little that they might be coming around to talk to me ;)
Yeah when I first started to write the original post, I was going to say I'm an XDA-Developer.com junkie... But I'm not ready to admit that. I know I can stop anytime. I'm positive. Yeah, thats not a problem...

If you significant other has ever "been too tired" because you came to bed late after flashing your phone and had to reset everything, raise your hand...

Raising hand, I have flashed about 30 times since I was introduced to this site. I have flashed every single WM6 rom numerous times and also Wm5, I have unlocked my phone numerous times and flashed the Wizard Love rom about 50 times. I have bricked my phone numerous times and been able to revive each time, I am a Wizard junky!!!! I am so much of a junky I bought my wife a G3 Wizard also. I deserve a medal or something.

I tried quitting flashing...but I always go back to what my father taught me....
"Nobody likes a quitter"
I was considering taking a drive to Camden NJ to ask if on the corners if anyone has "a good ROM to flash" ... that's when I knew I have a problem.
Now it's just memories....."ahhh, the glory days of when everyone was flashing."
I'll have to tell my grandchildren someday.. "Yeah, I tried that flashing thing. But don't you try it!"
Ohhhh....I even got my HTC Car charger in the mail today that I submitted the coupon for in December... Normally I would have been excited getting something for free and it being a gadget...but.....
I felt nothiing......I'm dead inside. (If it ain't a new ROM...then forget it)
ughhhhh, I'm bored. :o

Hi, my name is Steven and I'm a phone flashing addict.
As a founding member of the Unhappy Wives Club here it's nice to know that we weren't (and aren't) alone!
However there's hope! Yesterday I upgrading to the Hermes and presented my lovely wife with my Wizard (replacing the Blue Angel handmedown) and she actually asked that I continue to keep her new PDA running the latest and greatest even though I'll be spending the majority of my time on the Hermes forums... maybe she'll want to learn how to cook... hmmmm...

Hello, my name is James, I am a recovering MotoModder. I loved my MoMo, she had a new flash/flex at least twice a week. At first I only flashed other people's work. Then it grew from there. Before you know it I was writing my own gain tables and making skins for iTunes. But that was then...
Five days ago I ordered the 8125 from cingular.com. Two days ago it came in. Today it got flashed!!! I feel like the guy who quit smoking but started dipping copenhagen instead :D
I hated to give up my ROKR E1!. The phone would not die, you could always revive her!
And to think I told one of my friends I finally got a new phone, one that I couldn't mod

Just got X-plore 1.0 on my wizard and told my wife I'm done messing with it, I have it just how i want. Now, I see there is a new RUU ROM out there and have downloaded. I haven't flashed yet, but that's probably cause i need to get my battery above 50%! Flashing isn't the hard part, its reinstalling all the apps and setting up my cingular wireless account and exchange folder. Pretty much got all the configurations memorized. Yeah, i think its gonna be a late night....
I feel better now that I got that off my chest.

Finally had to revert back to X-plore when I realized I needed to actually use the damn thing to be productive! I spend more time flashing, re-installing and tweaking, than I do actually using it! Hi my name is Stan and I am a proud addict of flashing too.
I have lately been spending a lot of time creating a special folder on my Storage Card - I named it "A Fresh Install", and it has subfolders "CAB's, "Copy to TxtMan", "Copy to Programs-Windows Media Player" (for skins), "Copy to Windows", "Copy to Windows Favorites", "Copy to Windows Startup", "Copy to Windows-Start Menu-Programs", "Registry Keys", "Program Registration Keys", etc. - still fine-tuning.
All this so I can flash something new and then restore all my favorite things as fast as possible.
So maybe you've got something here - "how fast can someone flash and customize?"

Oh thank goodness, I thought I was alone!! I have been a pc geek for years, hack, mod, tweak...etc. I have wanted a PPC phone for as long as I can remember. Then one day a light shone down from above, and my daughters "N-gage" got dropped in the pool. She called from Hawaii to tell me. So being the good father, I logged on to Cingular to upgrade her phone. I couldn't believe my eyes!! 8125 for $49.95 NO WAY!! So I upgraded mine too. Before it arrived I had bookmarked twenty webpages, downloaded 6 roms and 4 gigs of apps, games and ringtones, and ordered two 2gb miniSD cards... I missed work the day it arrived (and several since then..) and followed all of the information here to unlock (CID & SIM) and flash my phone... I think I have it just the way I want it and something else pops up...
I don't know which worries me more, the fact that I was totally willing to brick something I coveted so long. Or the fact that the creator of my favorite "rom-de-jour" didn't know what "ROTFL" meant! LOL
This is a good time to thank all of you wonderful people who have brought so much enjoyment into my life, thru this miraculous little device!! And also thanks to Cingular for screwing up the price on their page for a week!

i may never return to symbian
I used to have a Symbian phone (Nokia 6620) and loved it. Cingular forced me to switch from AT&T to Cingular plan (long story) so I moved to the 8125 since they didn't have the Nokia 6682 anymore and no other Symbian phones. I hated the 8125. After a month I regretted my purchase but couldn't afford to buy an unlocked Nokia, so stuck to this. After about 4 months I was ready to chuck the 8125 into the trash due to all the issues I had with it (dropped calls, locking up, reboots for no reason, etc). I essentially used it as a simple PDA and that was it as nothing else worked right (I couldn't depend on having a phone conversation for more than 5 mins on it!). Then I finally decided to try this rom flashing as a desperation before switching to a Razr or somesuch simple device. WOW! Now the 8125 is the best choice I've made (my wife will argue that since I practically sleep with the thing now). I live and breathe this stuff now ;) Amazing what Faria, Molski, and all the other chefs have done for us, and made this device into what I had always wanted it to be (something that worked and was dependable).
And yes, I'm addicted...

Hello everybody, ehm... My name is Chris and... I... am a... uuhhh... flasher...
I think it all started about 18 months ago, when I found this site and... uhhh... I was able to unlock my 8125 just 2 hours after purchasing it... I mean, the phone was still cold and I was able to put any SIM card already! It gave me a feeling of power and I knew I wanted more but also knew I was threading into dangerous territory...
After that I started flashing just the radio... To make it better... I even opened the phone and applied the foil paper hack!
Of course I wanted more... And so I experimented with the Wizard_Loves... And the Farias and Risidoros and Molskis... And all the flavors of AKUs I could find... I even became a member of the ultra secretive Unhappy Wives Club... Where we flashed for a couple of times... But I needed more...
Then WM6 came... It was newer, more powerful... And I wanted to taste it too... But alas, it was out of my reach and I had to get by with the AKU 3.3 Crossbow Beta for a while... Soon it became obvious I needed to feel the real thing so I began hunting down the then-elusive WM6... From work, from home... Even from the handset! I mean, I was totally out of control...
Until finally I found a reliable supplier... In one crazy day I think I flashed two or three PDAVIETs and a couple of Hongs... I think I even tried a Polish ROM by mistake... It is a bit fuzzy now but I remember the feeling of being ecstasic...
Right now I don't even remember what version of WM6 I have in my phone... All I know is that I'm on the look for the next one... I don't care if I have to manually reprogram my Cingular MMS settings, or replace the E-Ten dialer if I don't like the one provided... Or reflash the radio for the umpteenth time... I want to have the next...
I'm addicted and I admit it...

Hi, I am Bjoern and... well part of a flasher.
I am looking for the perfect ROM and until I find it, I won't stop flashing.
But when I think about it, if I'd have my perfect ROM, I am sure that someone cooks one, that is faster, has more Ram or is more stable... So, uhm... yes. I am addicted, too.
I love to see my phone working better, faster, etc... But I hate reinstalling and reconfiguring every software after a new flash...
Some days I was shocked, because I (again) forgot an important birthday, but I remember all serials of the software on my phone *ouch*

Your wife is more patient than mine, I just did #3 on her G3 and she was trying to wrestle it away from me.
:D
Haven't started flashing my (soon to be) wife's wizard. If I do that I think I don't live the day of my marriage, which is the comming May 11th. Have flashed my wizard about 10 times a week (flashing, re-flashing (to MBE?), and yet flashing to a new one...
It's hard to choose.... so hard te let go... so hard NOT to connect the wizard to my computer...
My (soon to be) wife is telling me that I should marry my wizard instead of her... Well it would be a sollution.... no complaining and nagging about my wizard... I go to bed with my love en my princes and I wake up only with my princes.. Now guess who is my princes....

Hi... My name is Rick and I'm a flasher...
I actually used to do this for a living at my old job at Symbol Technologies.... When I got my new job... I missed my weekly flash sessions with Magneto (WM5 Codename we were testing)
After I left I got my Razor, and started motomodding.... but it wasnt the same
Now I have my 8125, and.. well.. I relive those days every chance I get, sometimes... more than once a day. I, I just dont know what to do anymore.... now I have something stable on my phone, but... new things come out every day.... I wish I could cook my own roms so I can make exactly what I want, but... well I cant find a vanilla that is stable for my device...
Now im staring at my phone, wondering, waiting for the next great ROM, when will it come?
3 am is never too late to see the incandecnet glow of the bootlader, in its wonderful rainbow of colors, the progress bar, the percentage count... the uncontrollable nailbiting... will it work? will it brick? Will it be all I want it to be and more?
I've even been tempted to use my girlfriends phone upgrade to get another 8125 so I can get my fix...

MAn i am so the same, till WM7 coms out i have hit a wall!!! I have my own rom running what i want how I want!!!
Can someone write WM7 for me!!!

Hi guys,
I was about to download xplore and faria's kitchen when I stumbled on this thread. I'm using Faria's real thing right now but the thought that there could be something better is driving me nuts. I don't want to become a flashing addict but I also want the perfect ROM. I know there have been several posts asking which ROM is the best but can you guys tell me which you think is the best?
All this points to one thing. Windows mobile is less than perfect and we keep looking for ways to make it better. Can't Microsoft just release the perfect ROM and sure all you flashers?! Even if they do, you guys will still cook and flash.
Admittedly, there is a feeling you get from looking at a freshly flashed phone!

hi, obvoiusly new to this. eventhough i've done a few flashes before by following hte instrtuctions all the way since the first qtek.
have serious trouble upgrading an BA to another WM5 or better WM6 (already upgraded few months back from brick! can't remeber how :(. tried 20 different ways and followed countless posts and instructions. the activesync connection keeps breaking after the update util checks everything and is ready to go (xp and vista). then i get update error or connection error (error 264 or error 220).
even followed instructions on www.mrvanx.org which i found extrememly clear but same result.
really frustrated.
would settle for WM% with AKU3.5 :(
Need to talk to someone over the phone, perhaps this way it would be shorter and surer. hope you can help.

hi, my name is Anmol and yess... im a flasher
my story... well i remember visiting this website back in may last year when the 8125 was barely 3 - 4 months old, but my god , this site ahd so much stuff for it, at that time i was using my Nokia 6600 (best symbian phone ever) i loved it, modded apps, appearence, everything, but then it was getting old (plus no mp3 support and it wasnt loud eihter) and thats when Nokia stated hyping up its "N - series" i was soo double minded about getting the 8125 ,i ended up getting the n71 (worst decision ever) and the started breaking down during the end of last year, so as horrible as i felt, there Was light shined upon me , as god of smartphones had truly spoken to me - when i found a Treo 650 (my friend gave it to me) i didnt wanna use because it was with verzion (Non-GSM) plus horrinle interface so i put on this local listing sites and i found a guy who wanted to trade his 8125 for it , in instant i became a proud owner of the 8125 - and from then on the addiction has never been stronger
Current rom: Crossbow Reloaded 1.7
next rom: XMA 6.0 (most likely)

Hi, my name is Jedi Nasty, and I'm an addict.
It's been 37 minutes now since I last flashed. I don't know how I've made it this long and I don't know how much longer I can make it. I never know where or when I'll get my next fix...but one thing is for sure...I need that pure bliss I feel when I see that rainbow. I need to feel that fire shoot through my veins when I see that 100% on my screen and then everything goes black...I know that something new is about to happen...and I can't stop it...
I have been flashing the ROM on my Wizard now for 10 months...I have flashed so many times I couldn't fathom to recall.
What's worse, like others here, I am a secret chef. I have watched others on this forum release their ROM's and then end up with more than just one addiction. I don't know if I can handle that. I can't stop tweaking The Nasty Edition ROM...I'm addicted. I'm on v.2.1 and I don't know if it'll ever stop. This is the first I've spoken of it...and perhaps will be the last.
Thank you for listening.

I stumbled upon xda-developers one weekday, and I could only last till the next weekend before starting to flash ROMs. It is 2.30 am and I have just finished a flash.
The upside is that I told my wife that iPhone may not be that easy to flash, and she is thinking of buying me one as soon as they start selling here!

Hello, My name is Johnny.
I have a serious problem. I cant stop flashing. Every night I lay in bed with my gf, I get up in the middle of the night just to flash and check for new roms. Every morning I look at my MDA just to see if anything has or needs to be flashed. Sometimes I think the chefs are just putting something "extra" in their roms just to help feed our addictions. Well we all know that good ol saying " If you cant beat em join em". I have been reading for a long time now but only been flashing for a couple of months.
Has anyone found a cure?

I got my T-mo MDA the day they released it, almost running to the store on Monday Feb. 20, was it only 2006? Seems longer.... I wasn't quite sure how to feel when they said none of the pre-orders had come in yet. I called on Tuesdsay, twice. Wednesday was glee day.
On September 12, 2006, at about 5:35 pm, I ran over the thing with my car. I have a tot, and getting a cranky one into a hot car is one of the most immediately taxing things I have ever done (I've moved several tons of rock, sold a $14,000 wedding dress, and scrubbed toilets for chronically homeless men, not that there's anything wrong with being homeless, but being that way for a long time messes with one's judgement, and aim.) It was distracting to say the least.
I realized it was gone within a mile, but I couldn't go back because of the screaming hatchling. So I got home, enlisted very reluctant help (the self-labelled "phone widow"), and called from the ridiculously dusty land-line phone. They had it. The relief was hospital-grade (like when the doc says you're not going to bleed out after, well, I won't get too gross, you decide).
So happily I tooled on back to the McDonald's where the manager pulled out the corpse for me to ID. (Like the police call and say, we have your daughter, and your wondering why they're leading you to the basement.)
So in less than half an hour, I had dumped half a months pay on an new one. When one spends time at momming and this, who has time to actually work?
(The money I have spent on software is hideously disproportionate to my overall budget, too, to the tune of 250mb of one copy of just installers, cabs, or moveable exes, and about a dozen pdfs with reg codes in my "purchased" folder, and those are only the ones that are (still) WM5+ compatible and that haven't been replaced, yet, with something newer and better. SPB and PI have a guy they send me to when, more often than not, I have a development idea.)
So my "widow" drops the thing the next day, no, morning, at about 5:45, not 12-hours after I trembled out a sickening amount of cash on the Tmo plastic desk/counter. Of course this is after spening the short night flashing a new ROM (xelencin's last) and loading it with all the apps I feel like I have to use because I paid for them. (No, Tmo's coverage didn't go into effect yet; enough of that crap.)
So I have an LCD+screen "overnighted" from Tokyo. I was honestly intollerable for the entirety of those two weeks, even though I was getting much, much more sleep.
I had it down to about 5-7 hours a week until people started posting kitchens. Now I'm discovering, I think, unless I'm doing something wrong, how putzy it is to make rgus, etc.
If anyone needs more to do:
an app/apps that install/s from installers (msi, yada yada), that haven't been intalled b4 (like AS already does) and/or moves cabs and runs them without being and extended ROM, just from having the pkgs in the right folder. It'd be nice to just hose the install, or have *it* wait for *me* (heh, heh) instead of brick-risk if I want to add a new pkg w/o doing a manual install first. Nice for compatibility testing (flash this rom, dump this software amalgam on it).
Or how about a "mini-pre-kitchen" that dumps (hmm, bathroom?) a cab right into the OEM folder?
Or suggestions about what tools to use to do this would be welcome, too. I'm not lazy, I just don't have the professional exposure to know which way is best. I can usually figure out the rest.
So I'm saving for something faster with a bigger screen (I like to do graphics while I'm waiting in line) to start in on after the wizard gets tired. How about a 5"x8" reliable tablet with a phone and a 10mpx camera with lens options....
I'm also switching to gin.

Has anyone found a cure?
Not a cure, but you can start cooking and then feed your addiction whenever you need a "fix".
The "cure" to the cooking addiction is to publicly release your creation. Guarenteed to leave a bad taste in your mouth after awhile as Noobs run into problems and blame everything (including their sink draining slowly) on the rom you made... Sheesh... ;)

Hi my name is Clay and I'm addicted to flashing rom. How bad is it you ask? Well we just purchased an HTC Tornado for my son. He will use the phone, wifi, audio and video capabilities. He was proud of it and wanted to show it off at a party that night. That's when I had to break the bad news to him that he would have to leave it with because I needed to do some "work" on it that night.
Now flashing yur own rom is bad enough but when you involve your children, well, that has to be rock bottom. I finally admitted my problem and bought my own phone off ebay. The sad news is that I own an iPhone and love it but there is no tweaking to be done so I have to feed my habit with HTC's :(

Where can one find a clean copy of it. The links on this forum don't work and I am a first time flasher. I have a couple of basic questions.
I am using the WIZA100 in India. So I am sure the phone is SIM unlocked. But I don't want to CID unlock it since I feel it may be alsready CID unlocked. How do I tell if it is already CID unlocked.
Moreover which WM6 ROM is the cleanest ROM with no problems and everything working. Also where to find this dream ROM for my WIZA100.

I previously had a motorola e398.. I flashed it several times a week
It became an addiction, and pissed off my wife big time.
I then bought a HTC Wizard, and I think what can you do to a WINDOWS device? tampering with registry, putting up useless applications, and stuff.. that's the max.. considering that's what happen to my xp.
But I was WRONG, big time. The moment I saw xda-developers, I was like, " OH SH*T.. here we go again, the same download-extract-flash routine"
And so it happen until now. The same routine.
The worst thing is, I managed to convince my wife to hand-over her Nokia N73, I guess TWO is better (or worse?) than one ...

I'm an addict too... I admit it.... :( but my adiction is not only to flash ROMs... also, I love to install ALL stuff out there for WM, test it for a while and then uninstall it...
I'm constantly looking for new tools, programs, reg hacks, and so on to apply them to my Wizard....
I thought that by bricking my first wizard will stop my adiction, but no: I bought a new one and also recovered my first Wizard from the death (using JTAG hardware trick) so I have now 2 Wizards to test ROMs in parallel....
I lost my girlfriend but I now have a beauty new one :D, I bricked a Wizard but recovered it and now I have 2 to play  , I'm always looking XDA forum page but it make me able to help others to recover their phones or tell them how to do it without suffering what i suffered, I spend too much time installing/freezing/uninstalling stuff on my wizard but it makes me know which are really the best tools for us and their pros and cons... so it isn't so bad to be an addict, or is it?

Your reading is perhaps only partly correct. In order to unlock successfully, you need to be at IPl 1.x and a 1.x.x OS which is why you need to flash the Button .5 ROM first, then follow the unlock procedures, then flash the T-Mobile ROM, then the wm6 ROM. Flashing the T-Mobile ROM just gets you a stable and consistent SHIP ROM as a starting point and it clears out possible residual 'code' that may be hung up in the exted ROM, Etc... Read Dr. Puttingham's guide a bit closer. I missed it the first time out as well, but it is ALL THERE. If you can not upgrade to WM6 then you are not unlocked!

Please someone help me.
Hope I have not bricked my wizard coz I have not tuched IPL SPL
Ok mate I found a solution for this I don't know if what happened to you is getting your phone bricked but I sort it out.
you have to get your mini sd card empty and put the enterbootloader.exe in it. you can found it in several roms (wizardlove) that have the enterbootloader.exe in it.
then turn off taking the battery; wait 30 seconds put the card and turn on.
you should be able to get to the in to the boot loader mode plug the usb and put the original rom.
hope it works if not try same procedure with hard reset.
it worked for me good luck:)

Thanks for your comment.
I found out another method
After you stuck on splash screen, Your device wont detect by activesync to use with RUU (rom upgrade utility) tool. But still you can go to Bootloader mode (rainbow screen) by holding camera button while you soft reset the phone. Run the RUU tool after you manualy set the bootloder mode. RUU tool will detect your device on USB with bootloader mode (your PC not giving any sign of usb connectin but RUU detect your devise)
Othewise RUU toll give you 'error message 260'
This method was worked for me and I have flashed MB Rom using RUU.

Updating the OS Is like a gift every time I do it.
New OS new features new way of using it. This is why it is so tempting to flash the OS every time a new comes out.:)
WM5 --> WM6 --> TouchFlo
After most new ROMS are WM6 and Touch-able..
What's next? I have not seen anything new to do or flash after this
It's feel like an identity crisis now that I can't find anything having really new features to flash.
Has anyone feel this lately?

Hi guys! I'm following the guides in upgrading and I just have a question on this:
17. My suggestion, take for what it's worth, is to download and install the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM
This will give you a strong 2.26 IPL and SPL to work with.
Now you SHOULD have a IPL and SPL of 2.26 to work with. If not, you screwed up! Don't attempt to install someone's hard work and bitch before you do these steps!
EDIT for Step 17 - Download and install the 3.08 IPL/SPL rather than the 2.26, your choice!
Question:
1. Instead of using the 2.26 ROM can I use the one posted on this thread? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311027
Official WWE Aku 3.3 Rom (Radio 2.69, IPL/SPL 3.08)
http://www.t-mobile.hr/mdasw/RUU_Pro...R_WWE_Ship.zip
2. Or can I flash the WM6 rom right away?
Thanks

Hi my name is Noonski, and i'm addicted with flashing my phone.
I thought I had it under control after making my own CTU-Versatel homescreen on a flashed and unlocked SDA. I even remember my O2 XDA, and how cool I felt having 2003se on it. Then I got a Wizard and things got worse. I ran stable on a Faria aku 3.3 and was clean for months. Untill I saw this Thing called AD2P and other Standard WM6 goodies. I couldn't resist the name Faria Crossbow Real Thing. And it got worse. I even tried Faria's first kitchen and I knew I shouldn't, I got a few working builds but more freezes. And to be totally honest through all my devices, the main kick is after sweating for hours on a Phone that just doesn't want to flash in Bootloader, that I can finally go to sleep when it does. It is the worry and the fear of the worry that makes my blood vanes pump. Then Varia just left the Wizard forum like a lone cowboy heading for the next town called Hermes. And I felt there was a big hole that went missing on the Wizard thread. And new thugs started showing up because it just became to easy. I haven't touched the kitchens, but also understand that I'm lying, I have. I don't want the kitchen to work I want to worry and sweat and learn. And then after years of reading and shutting up in the presence of Those I Call The Real Developers. I saw people ask questions I would never dare ask. And then Touch came to wizard and everything started spiraling out of control. Then the Core kitchen then my wizard broke.. Help please help I need help can anybody help me. I’m making plans of making the fastest ELF rom and kick ass. Help me I have a problem I have already made a dumprom of my new ELF and soon I’ll have two devices to play with. Is there any one I can sue for what I’m going to do to myself I the future? I made an OEM package with some reg tweaks and the only way to test it is to cook my own I can’t rely on someone else to test my stuff. But I’m afraid, I’m so afraid, I need my sleep. I don’t think I can be cured. So maybe I just have to make things worse and set a goal and some pressure on myself. Before the End of September Expect a TZN Rom release I name it SPC 1.0 (Speed Precision Control) for the Touch And after that maybe an Wizard ROM called SPCPoWeR 9.9 (StopPublishingCookedPoorWizardRoms). Please someone help, stop me from starting this project I fear I will never recover from this addiction.
I would like to thank everyone that has inspired me, the ones that passed me my first syringe, rock and crystal. I would like to thank in advanced the ones that will help me pick up the pipe and keep smoking. Thank you for reading my 200th post.
Ooh I feel better, how much do I owe you doctor!

I understand what you mean and partly agree. But i do have a strong feeling that there's still a lot to gain from optimizing performance on devices. And FUI looks like a great Add on instead of the memory unfriendly touch stuff.
But yes i'm missing a personal touch. Or it's even like i somehow sense that some ROMS did not get enough love while in the oven.

Stop trying to hijack the one fun thread we have here with rom problems / questions. Read the stickies at the top of this forum and the Wizard Upgrading forum. Heck read the first post of my XM6r3 thread (see my sig). Everything is answered if you just look.
Not sure how you can be a "rom junkie" if you can't even flash a custom rom. Sheesh

hi im Thunda Chunky and im a Flasher. i like to think of it as a positive thing. at least we're not those kinds of flashers lol. i started flashing 8125 back in july. i (like most noobs) swore my device was bricked when i 1st saw bootloader mode =/ hey im sure we've all been their. well anyway after a lot reading and studying (a WHOOOOLE LOT) i flash faria's WM6. my first successful flash. it felt great. the second one felt even better (NBD 7.4). then came the third, forth, fifth, etc...
well ill just say i made it my mission to tried at least two versions of each ROM that was well known to the GP. Faria's, XM6, Singh, then NBD. then that moment we all fear. when you go to turn on your precious wizard and... nothing. Brick. i was devistated. however the AT&T rep i saw at the store tossed me a replacement and said "you had a G4. you cant change the IPL or SPL." i was stunned. "Find a good ROM and stick to the series." he actually refered me to XDA lol. so i followed his advise.
i flashed NBD 9.1 and thats were i stopped (we're so happy, that ROM and i) ive been using it for at least a week and a half and ive had no problems (except the WiFi connect thing but eh...). ive gone from the Brickyard and back and im still kickin. and best believe as soon as its out 9.2 is im flashin. so thank you Zoki, Faria, MrFrazz, mUn, and all the others. yall got us hooked and we love you for it ya bastards lol

I find this a touching story making me think how i had to bring my wizard back to the t-mobile store. They fixed my USB so it could charge. But it couldn't comunicate over active sync. I think they did it on purpose. And he looked at me and said. Are you sure it's broken? I think he knew that they screwed up my active sync. I told him that it was probaply a soldering mistake. But i know what's going on. They now, and they want to stop us. It's great when addictions get you paranoid. And next thing you know you're working for a new boss.
Welcome to the gang of folowers.
Somewhere in oktober i hope to find some time cooking one last rom for myself that i will keep on it...... untilll the next rom off course.

Hi People
I am new to upgrading. Before I get the business of "you have not read the posts" I have read the posts. That's why I am writing here. The more I read, the more contradicting it is. I have the following:
T-Mobile MDA Unlocked SIM
IPL/SPL 2.26.0001
GSM 02.25.11
OS 2.26.10.2
I know this is a G4, but I have read that you can flash a ROM to an locked CID, but other areas say you cannot. I also have seen many different guides to flash, but some say the CID have to be unlocked others don't. I also have not seen whether the original ROM is saved in case you want or need to put it back. I have also read that you may have to input the GSM settings (I use Rogers in Canada). I bought this unit on eBay unlocked and all I had to do was put in my SIM card and it worked. Will the same happen if I upgrade the ROM? I find after reading so many threads it seems so confusing and was hoping someone here could help me out as you all seem to love flashing ROMs.
Thanks so much in advance,
Mike

You cannot flash either IPL/SPL/or Radio to CID locked devices.
But i like doing it anyway just to get error messages, Error messages make me feel afraid and i like that in flashing.

Yes that's why i thought porting as much as possible out of the Rom would be fun.
I knew it would be addicting and fun. But the rate you find out stuf is the drive. Fixing the mistakes you make and waiting for that succesfull Flash is a rush by itself. Doctor i'm not cured. I fear i cannot be saved anymore.

or is this just me
But hey my time is better spent here than the stuff I used to do chilling outside with friends....
From my ppc 6700, and universal, to Artemis, and Herald plus all the PPC's in between (gonna leave out the 3-4 SP that I had, they don't count :p) I proud to say I haven't bricked a single phone that wasn't able to come back all these years.
To all the good times...and hopefully many more with such a great community

I finally found out how to cook my rom with a fixed network wizard that's an my storage card but still starts up automaticly because it has the correct registry values cooked into rom pointing to storage card.
And it's great to see how the new Infofeed RSS reader also on my storage card imediatly shows my saved feeds after a fresh flash.
Yes i need the sleep but this really made me a happy man.

I am happy to say that after flashing my phone over 100+ times in a day for two weeks straight while creating the base roms for the kaiser kitchen that I have managed to kick the habit since last week.
Cooking your own ROMs seems to wear off alot faster than flashing someone elses' FYI. Must be because cooking your own is ultimately what you want anyway...

Hi Mfrazz
Not sure if you would be interested in answering this but I have a slight problem flashing. I have downloaded your r3 rom to my Wizard and am trying to get VoIP working. In the interim I am trying to flash a Blue Angel. I have managed to unlock this Cingular unit to T-Mobile and put something called Helmi WM6 on it but it wont let me use VoIP at all. I'd love to know if the BA is an older HTC machine or if 400 MHz makes it later than my Wizard. Unfortunately there isnt much expertise on the BA forum and no one seems to know why my unit keeps reporting Error 101 (I think it is a lost communication error) after identification and just before the flashing process itself starts.
Do you know if your ROMs might work with a BA OR if I can use your utility and simply replace the nk.nbf file with a WM6 one i find on the BA area to get the BA upgraded?

Thats not what this thread is for. Please post support questions in the appropriate topic. As I've said in the past, this is one of the few "Fun" threads around here, and I don't want it becoming a support thread for ROM Flashing and stuff. This is support for those that can't stop flashing...
Back on topic... Yeah _Alex_ you have that about right... First cook a ROM that has problems while you are testing it and after doing tons and tons of flashes to debug it, you get pretty burned out. And yes, cooking your own tends to fit your tastebuds and the need / urge to flash is much less (but can still be there just to see what you "might" be missing :D)

I flashed my first ROMs back in August of 2007. I eventually got mfrazzz's XM6r2a working and stuck with it for months! I read this thread, but didn't think I had a problem yet.
I started having problems with the phone recently, so I came back to xda-dev to see what kind of new ROMs were available. Well I have flashed my 8125 everyday for the last 5 days now. I've tried most of the ones that look interesting, but none seemed to suit me.
Instead of just putting XM6r2a back on, I've downloaded the Hyper Core Kitchen and decided to make my own ROM :P
This has definitely turned into a problem. Was up until 4AM last night

I wanted a new phone without a plan..... so it started. I did research and found HTC phones and then Wizards and then ..... XDA DEVELOPERS. I scoured ebay for a Cingular 8125 (liked the shape over T-Mobile MDA) and made a buy. Before the phone got here i had already downloaded lokwiz and and button rom, and radio 2.26......ok ok, i had 5 roms downloaded and 3 radios and just tons of stuff. My 8125 came Saturday Dec 22nd, by 1am i had my first rom loaded "TNT 1933" and my T-mobile sim wasn't due to arrive until the Monday before Christmas. By Wednesday the day after Christmas i was on my fourth rom........... NO TURNING BACK NOW!!!!!!!!!!
Yes, yes.... these are the memoirs of a rom flashing junkie.
I just downloaded my first Kitchen today............
I think i need another 8125 just to Flash.....

Finnally I'm opening my self.
Smth like 2 years ago i got an HTC himalaya and as I didn't like at all the 2003 i started looking for things.
So i found XDA-Dev and buzzdev so i started hoing to other ROMS till I made my self a good ROM using beppe's kitchen and the history goes . . . . . . . . !!!!
One day a friend of mine gave me a Wizard (little thingie :-)). I had to see this.
My friend never got it back.
I came again to xda-dev after a year to check about the wizard.
And what i see CID unlock and etc. . . . . . .!!
Now i'm on "dope" again this time the wizard kind ;-)

Hi, my name is Nick. I have been flashing ever since I received my first spv back in the good old days. I started playing around with the stock roms on a day not unlike today when I was feeling a little down and out and perhaps a little lonely. Well, now its a few years later, I am somewhat fatter, older and now have no friends well, not many anyway. I do have a dog if that counts and I'm sure when I turn around quickly and look at him laying in his basket on the floor that he is laughing at me. I also hear voices too. I never used to. They come from my Kaiser. I began to hear voices after I first got my TyTN a short while ago, but now the voices are getting louder and stronger. I pick my Kaiser up, and its as if it talking to me. I'm not talking about the phone being on, I've had it on flight mode before and it still talks to me. Before I started using the rom kitchen and not too long before I messed about "romming" I was fine and everything was lovely and my life was somewhat ok. But now its all gone crazy and I just don't know anymore.
I am an addict and my name izt Nick

Yeah, i got a new 8925 (Tilt), and was not to happy with all of the AT&T software that was on it, so i started looking. Now, here it is, not two weeks later, and i am trying two OS's, testing to find which one that will work. I will keep ye'all posted!

My name is Bud and I'm A Rom flasher. This is my first post to the site. I have an 8125 and have tried a few roms, probably 4. I really like Black Diamond, but it ends up giving me problems after a couple of days. I feel like I may be going deeper into my addiction because now I'm considering cooking my own rom if I can get the courage. At least I know I can get help here when I'm ready to do something about my problem. Thanks for being here for me.
Well now I'm for sure I have a problem. I was flashing a new rom and my phone got stuck in Bootloader screen and I didn't blink an eye. I had this happen with my Blue Angel one time and I was freaking out. Not this time, I just reflashed a new rom and was back to buisness.

Hi my name is Ant and I have a problem.. :D
I started with a Softbank and the first XDA Live WM6 version. I super CID it, radio upgrade it, bricked it, recovered it, you name it. I progressed thru all the Black Roms. I even brought my wife a Dopod 830 pro to both shut her up and feed my habit. I convinced the company I work for to purchase them and now look after about 20 of them.
Recently the company gave me a TyTn II with strict instructions to trial it but no flashing. I have kinda worked around that one by installing just about every patch, hack and crack that has been developed in the XDA forums. FtouchSL combined with Slithers Cube make it somewhat different.
The other day I saw Dutty's 6.1 ROM and have had the tremors ever since. So today I flashed that. Hands steady again. I may have to put it back to the official rom but only after I get caught :D:D:D
My wife tolerates me. My friends with standard phones hate me. I'm a flashaholic....

Hi my name is ser00405 and I have a problem...
...today I flashed my HTC TyTN II twice and I probably spend more time with my device than with my family. Right now they are all asleep but I'm still installing and tweaking to get my precious running better than ever.
I'm a flashaholic....

I started with motorola phones but after a while that would not satisfy my "rom flashing" needs.
Then I got a BlueAngel and I went all the way, even changed the housing, flashed various roms, cooked my own and then I realized I was out of control.
I tryed to go back to regular phones. I got a samsung blast and almost died because I could only change ringtones and the menu color... hard times...
After that I got a sonyericsson and they have patches and firmwares but there was only so much one could do...
I was "clean" for about 2 months then my friend broke his Wizard... I replaced the screen for him but the flex cable was cut too... he choose to get a Tytn II and gave me the phone...
Then it all started again! I got a new flex cable and put the phone together...
It started all over again!
The bootloader mode screen is so beautiful with the colors and that little bar going red and blue... oh! the rush, the adrenaline while flashing it!
For the last 3 days I flashed it about 4 times with different roms and now I'm cooking my own.
Hi, my name is LGSilva and I'm a flashaholic. :D

Hi everyone. My name is rallaster and I'm an addict. I'm always flashing  (my ROM pervs) I can't get enuff. I get almost no sleep because I'm always looking for a newer, faster, more stable rom.
It's almost more important than going to work every day. My g/f hates my phone almost as much as she hates the computer. I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who sneaks out of bed every night to tweak and flash my phone. Wow, took alot to say that.
I think I have a problem... well... maybe not. I enjoy it waaayyyy too much.

nah. That means I would have to take up smoking again...... no wait.... I never quit  actually... I like flashing too much. :D Every time I flash a new ROM I learn something new about my TILT. *Twitch* starting to get withdrawls. IDK if its from not having flashed in the last 24 hrs or not having a smoke for almost 3. hmm I'll have a smoke and see if that helps. If not... time to find a new ROM... *evil chortle*

My name is Rob and I am also addicted to flashing. Oddly, I have a very strong IT background but I am a doctor during the day. I was fine with my company phone (well not fine) until our chief of IT gave me a second Tilt and said he was interested in learning about ROM flashing and would I be interested in doing a little research? I was so astonished to have a corporate IT "blessing" that I was speechless. I dove head first into the abyss.
I eagerly await new ROMs even though I think I've already found the perfect ROM (Kaiser Laurentius v4 Vanilla). I thought I had the ROM thing under control until I discovered radios. The nearly infinite combination of ROMs and radios has sucked away most of my free time and I've spent more than a few late nights clicking away after my wife has fallen asleep.
My 9 year old daughter says "daddy, put Tilt away..." but I can't. My business partner looks over me at my desk and says "are you working on that phone agaiin?"
I read as many entries on this thread that I could before I couldn't control myself laughing. Seriously, though, it is very comforting to know that there are (many?) other seriously deranged folks besides me.

Hi,
I know it's kinda late but am just toying around this dead 8125.
Done flashing T-mobile 2.26 but when I flash the final xda mr5 I got Error 330.
Full ROM is larger than my phone ROM? No way I can flash full ROM?
Tried to locate the lite version but can't find any. May I request repost?
Or by this time you might have better recommendation?
Many Thanks.
You rock man!
