As the old myth says that upgrading IPL/SPL will improve little performance and hangups plus getting your bootloader to the latest.. maybe giving you to a faster bootup.

I have Phone Dashboard on my PPC, and it has a function that shows the signal strength. 2.19.11 I had around 86% signal strength but now with 2.69 I have 96%. Also my BS reading for powerdrain is still 64 mA so that's good, if all these reading at right. Can anyone else confirm some readings about signal strength and any power drain? Made a few test calls with my g.f wizard to mine, didnt' miss a call and tried sms everything seem fine.

You just download the file and extract it. Connect your device to PC. After your device connect to PC whether guest or user. Double click romupdateutility.exe file and follow suggestion. But I recomment you read more how to flash ROM to your device. It's not just the application but it's files that you try to flash to ROM.

I think in the first post there's both for IPL/SPL and radio rom. But IPL/SPL file has only nk.nbf file. You have to flash radio first and replace the nk.nbf from IPL/SPL file to the radio file and run romupdateutility.exe again. I don't know I make you more confuse or not.

I agree with danik_iceman. It'll be better if someone make a RUU file for both. Anyhow you can test one by one if you don't want to flash both.

Now, for the second (or third?) time...

Use the RUU program and the nk.nbf file in the .rar to flash your phone. If you don't have the RUU handy, look for someone's ROM and replace their nk.nbf with the new one listed in post #1 of this thread. Flash away.

If you would have read and used a little common sense, you would figure out all the update utiilities are the same, the only file that matters is the nk.bf. That is what contains the specific stuff you are trying to flash (ROM, Radio, or IPL/SPL, or all three) Just swap that file into the updater folder.

Its not that we don't want to be helpful. Its just we're tired of newbs who are so quick to blindly mess with a $400 device without taking the time to research and read and then whine and moan when they brick it into oblivion.

Quite honestly, I'm tired of sanctimonious blowhards who think a little knowledge gives them the right to be rude and condescending. Nobody is forcing you to post on this forum. Now, back to the original topic of this thread...I see that a few folks have had the missed calls issue similiar to that of 2.61. From what I've read in the thread, it doesn't seem that there's that much benefit to upgrading to the newer radio, so I think I'll hold off for the time being.

Reread that thread. My post in that thread:
try draining the battery completely, til your wizard dies, then recharge it. This will 'cycle' the battery. You may have to perform this procedure a few times.

Other then the normal phone calls and sms, I even try sms myself a few times...and calls to my own phone with another cell/land line too. Dunno why some say they have miss calls with this radio??

didn't seem to take all was fine was flashing it back to shipped defaults and it powered off and will no longer turn on. I read a comment a few before mine about the IPL and SPL being the bios of the phone. Even with this toasted shouldn't the device at least attempt to boot?

we purchased 3 of these at my office and one had a bad battery one a bad screen so if the IPL/SPL can't do that its probably just a HW issue.

What do you mean rom still the same?

Your OS ROM will still be the same (wm6 faria rom) but the IPL/SPL ROM and Radio ROM will surely be different when you upgrade..

I had 10 missed calls and at least one missed text yesterday with this radio on the MB edition rom. I had missed calls with the MB edition with every radio I tested. Oh yea, I am on Cingular.

Mine remained the same. I've never seen more than about 50 kbit/sec...I'm still averaging around 41.

Yes, the os rom is the same. You will be updating jsut the radio and ipl/spl.

I just want to share my experience with this radio rom. I have the problem of miss call. Normally signal strength is very good at my home and work when I use 2.61.11.

But after I upgrade to 2.69. I saw no signal. I try to call to my phone by fixed line. It's not available. I have to switch to fight mode and back. The signal strength is recover. Today I also have many miss call. I'm in Bangkok, Thailand.

For IPL/SPL, shorten the boost period.

I notice a weird occurance where after upgrading from my stock radio rom, that i'll get the missed calls when I'm powered off. When I'm powered on, my phone seems to come back to life and I can get my calls. The only success I had was either on a stock 2.25 or a 2.19 radio rom. I had too many problems with the 2.25 that was included in the radio rom only thread.

I'm using Cingular in the states in California.

Update: after messing around for couple hours, I can say I don't notice much difference with radio rom with my previous 2.19 radio rom. boot time is faster of course.

Back in early January I had maybe 10 or so 8125's upgraded to this radio and the missed calls was unacceptable. Downgraded them to the 2.19 and they've been much happier.

Faria said the German Rom was the same base as his aku 3.3 rom so he has had the radio rom for a while. Maybe he has a WWE version of the Tmobile german rom.

I upgraded yesterday afternoon, i haven't missed any calls yet, plus i live a lil away from the city proper so my signal strength with almost every other radio was pretty bad at my house, hell many times i was actually roaming, except with the 2.61 radio, but i had a lot of missed calls with that just as everybody else.
With this radio (2.69) i have close to 3 bars of service in the basement of my house! This is freakin incredible... I made my girlfriend call me every hour today to check if i missed any calls, well i received every one of her calls.

I did not do the registry edit. I tried without it and was working fine...."if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

I upgraded yesterday afternoon, i haven't missed any calls yet, plus i live a lil away from the city proper so my signal strength with almost every other radio was pretty bad at my house, hell many times i was actually roaming, except with the 2.61 radio, but i had a lot of missed calls with that just as everybody else.
With this radio (2.69) i have close to 3 bars of service in the basement of my house! This is freakin incredible... I made my girlfriend call me every hour today to check if i missed any calls, well i received every one of her calls.

Wow, how in the world do you miss so much calls a day? well so far it's been 3 days for me and I haven't miss a call that I know of but i'm still calling myself once in a while and sms, but no miss calls or sms odd? Oh i'm on Fido Canada. Oh, also I forgot to mention I only get about around 20-30 calls a day average.

Well it does seem as though the problems with this radio are primarily with the Cingular network (which I am on). I had similar issues with the 2.61.11 radio a couple months ago, and so switched back to the 2.19 which has been working pretty well. I have been trying the 2.69.11 radio for a few days now, and while I like the smoothness of the data transmission, I can't afford to miss calls either. So, I guess its back to the 2.19 until someone figures out the problem.

I upgraded recently to 2.69 and decided to back to 2.19 for stability concerns!

Unlike many here, I got problems in two different situations: One happened when I was trying to reply a SMS message which it didn't go through...really!:rolleyes:
An error pop-up said that I had to wait 15 seconds cause my phone wasn't ready! I remember to have this issue couple of times using other radio ROM's.
Anyway...
And the final one happened when my wizard was off and I decided to make a call. No signal! Not even one bar! I then did a soft reset to have all stuff back to normal!

So, as I faced it before, I gave up to spend time testing. I suggest you to try it out and have your own feelings. I just wanted to share mine!

I thought is was just my mediocrity but it's just the network.

I would think that it is network/provider related too... When I was using 2.47, I had some distortion problems initially but nothing a soft reset didn't solve. I've tried 2.61 and 2.69 w/o any problems thus far... I'm using Fido in Canada...

If providers wanted to relock, would it be required to be a separate process... could it be integrated into the IPL/SPL... all of which is unknown to be... but I guess I'm going off topic now...

- Cingular USA
- T-mobile Netherlands

after flashing the new IPL/SPL on my trusty G3 I encounterd some weirdness in win mobile 6 using nottoosmarts fixed version of mUn's rom

here is what happened, the freakin atachements stopped going on to my storage card on my outlook exchange email.

so since i have a lot of them it promplty filled my device up to the point where it was unstable and unusible.

I don't know if it was coincidence or what.

I have since reflashed a bunch of different roms and rolled back the radio.
perhaps i will give it another go. If it happens again I gues that would prove an incompatibility of some sort.

Basically the term brick comes from that the phone is completely dead, so it has about as much use as a brick. There are tons of warnings all over this place about bricking phones, but it seems a lot people think its easier to just flash and then look for help afterwards. Reading these forums, the stickies, and the Wiki is critical. NOt sure if you knew you had a G4 before you decided to do this, but if you did, you should have also seen all the warnings all over the place about G4's and changing the IPL/SPL.

Sorry man, but you have an expensive paperweight now.

You can try the trick of JTAG mentioned above, but thats not an easy thing to do, and not for someone that isn't comfortable soldering on microelectronics (ie: if you don't know what you are doing and don't have the right tools, you will ruin the phone at the hardware level).

I would appreciate any help or suggestions. I am running Nottoosmart's Vanilla wm6 on a t-mobile wizard. The OS has been working fine for some weeks and it is fast.

However there has been a big problem and I localized the source.. Voice quality is poor. After some experimentation I noted that the audio gain is way too high and there is often feedback between the ear output transducer and mike. The net result is clipping and feedback which makes the voice quality sound very poor to the other end.

When the phone volume is reduced to zero, it is better, but still a problem. The volume control seems to have relatively little effect compared with WM5. Also, clearly the mike is feeding back and not blanking much, if at all, which suggests that AGC (automatic gain control) is not working well. I don't know what parts of the above, if any, are directly responsible for the poor audio quality.

I am aware of the other radio roms which have been mentioned here (e.g. 2.69 etc.) and have not tried these. However it sounds as they make the RF signal detection more or less sensitive, rather than affecting the audio. So I am reluctant to start experimenting, since others have already done that.

I will have to go back to WM5 unless I can fix this problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

I recovered my QTEK A9100 using the "hard" way. In a QTEK there is not exactly a "JTAG" connector. You need to build it from the scratch.

I just want to share with all of you that I recovered my QTEK and it will not be a paperweight.

If this still needs an answer...

You can upgrade any part of the 'ROM' in your phone with RUU program - the parts could be ipl+spl, radio rom, actual OS, extended ROM etc. Just copy the nk.nbf file and run the RUU program. You would see that the time for update depends on what you are updating.

Edit: Caution: A full nk.nbf contains all the parts of the ROM. Please look at the description to see if the file you have updates only the parts that you want to be updated. The size of the file is a good indication.

I have Prophet G3, and upgraded it with this radio rom, all went ok, and gave a successful message, but it restarted and went black and refuse to start in anyway, when i press the power button, it flash with a very weak light on the screen (hardly seen) and the indicators flash also with a very light red light on the top and a very light green light on the bottom one,

please help if anyone knows what happened.

Ok no problem. I just found strange you not understanding that this wasn't the Prophet's section.

And i guess there's no solution for your phone here; you can take to repair center to get a new board or try to apply the warranty (if any)

The radio upgrade shouldn't have touched the IPL/SPL. You can run the 3.08 IPL/SPL upgrade though and that should upgrade them to both be 3.08.

Can somebody please tell me if the rom on the first post of this thread can work with a locked G4?

I see some people saying they bricked their phones, and some saying that the rom shouldn't touch the ipl/spl...

The fix will work on ROMs with a 5.2.318 Core but NOT on ROMs with a 5.2.1413 Core

Sorry, I haven't been to this thread in a few days so I didn't see your post. I believe the 2.69 radio ROM (just the radio update) is in the wizard wiki. It's also in another post somewhere here in the wizard forum because I just uploaded it for someone else the other day. Let me know if you can't find it though and I'll be more than happy to upload it for you.

Or you could just use the second download link in the first post on the first page of this thread.

I have Prophet G3, and upgraded it with this radio rom, all went ok, and gave a successful message, but it restarted and went black and refuse to start in anyway, when i press the power button, it flash with a very weak light on the screen (hardly seen) and the indicators flash also with a very light red light on the top and a very light green light on the bottom one,

please help if anyone knows what happened.

I have Wizard with T-Mobile in US with TNT 4.0 ROM and IPS/SPL 2.26.

I have tried 3 different Radio roms so far: 2.19, 2.61 and 2.69 and I noticed the following:

I am in New York and cell reception is better with 2.61 and 2.69. 2.19 has 0 reception when I'm at work on 38th floor whereas 2.61 and 2.69 work fine.

However, GPRS works very screwy with 2.61 and 2.69. After I go in a subway and I'm the no reception area, the phone takes a long time to catch voice signal and may not catch GPRS signal at all. What I've noticed is that while the indicator shows E for GPRS and voice signal is searching, I know that once I'm out of the no-service zone, I will get the data connection back. Once the E will turn to X, I wll not get gprs signal back even though the voice signal has reconnected. One I turn on/off the flight mode, I'm back online with GPRS. I don't think I've had missed calls/sms with any of those ROMS just yet. Once or twice it happened that even voice signal could not reconnect until I turn on/off the flight mode [after i'm out of the subway/no service area]. All these symptoms are with 2.61 and 2.69.

No problems with data/voice at all with 2.19 radio rom, except for it not finding signal while I am high up in the building at work.

Just wanted to share a few of my observations with folks here.

Put the nk.nbf in the same folder the RomUpdateUtility.exe (exe filename may vary), replacing the existing nk.nbf. Then run the exe.

Ok, a reality check moment for a new guy.

If I remember right, I would have to CID/Sim unlock my unit again to reflash to the 3.08 right? I've only done this once (last week for the first time!!!!).

That means I'll lose all my contact info and applications that i've loaded. How can I "back up the mda" so I don't lose all my "stuff" again??

Well looks like I have the same problem with 2.69 as other ATT (USA,CA) have. 9 out of 10 calls dont come through I do not even get a missed call notice.

Even tryed the CAB Fix but nothing worked

I have now switched back to 2.19 for two reasons.

1) Calls don't come through.
2) Better signal with 2.19 than 2.69 (?? ODD)

Just thought I would give my 2 cents.

2.19 Radio with 3.08 IPL/SPL is the best choice.

It took me an hour to flash 2.69 and 3.08. Rapidshare now requires 1 hour wait per file, please add mirrors to the files.

i've got 3 wizard's and i was updating ipl/spl to 3.08 from this thread
I was total idiot thinking that all of them are g3's....one was g4 and i flashed it with the ipl/spl from this thread :( hopefully wizard is not totally dead, but stuck on boot.

My IPL ID 3.08 NOW SPL 1.03 and there is no 000 (3.08.000) so always when i,m flashing wizard RUU thinks that this is G3 and updating g3 ipl :?

Have you got spl/ipl 3.08 for g4's maybe it could help ...

Just had my Cingular 8125 G4 running CR86 Touch HD 1.4 - EzInput Edition flashed with
this radio rom... my previous was 02.25.11

Currently, I attest a better reception with this... my stock radio rom gives me 1-2 bars inside our home, but now has 3-4 bars... and I live in the city btw...

How do we test for battery drain???

I just upgraded to IPl/SPL 3.08 wiht Radio ROM 2.69.11, i tried calling my self, i tired SMSing myself, got no problems. GPRS is working f9 but for some reason i didnt recieve my own MMS ??...by the way im in Pakistan, using Warid Telecom.

Update: had to switch back to Radio ROM 2.37.11 couldn't recieve MMS on this one :(. No problems with IPL/SPL yet, but good Boot Timings

As I've read before, the radio 2.69.11 is the most stable one which is also great if you have battery drain issue, am I wrong ?

I would rather say 3.02.11 works for me, its great no problems till now, I live in PAK(ASIA) and am using Warid Telecom, rest is your choice!!

Hello Friends
I'm in trouble anybody help....
I upgraded give IPL/SPL 3.08 and Radio: 2.69.11
but still unable to flash latest Rom e.g Wm6.5 or 6.1 i tried different roms
using ruu utility and it completes procedure but after finishing successfully same old wm5 starts what am i missing? do i need to downgrade radio or ipl/spl ? or what do i need ? kindly response soon. i've K-jam with Wizard love rom installed.

You need to use the RUU for a K-Jam with the nk.nb of the new rom. Extract the contents of the stock K-jam RUU to a folder, replace the nk.nb, and then run the RUU. I think this will work.
