View Full Version : TomTom freezing --> how to get rid

Hello All,
I finally have found a solution to avoid TomTom freezing from time to time: I do not claim to have discovered anything by myself, infact I found the info via google on a French Forum here:
http://www.ppccool.com/index.php?showtopic=5782&st=0
The solution: install ATIFix.cab (attached)
The reason why I think it is a solution is simple: I have changed three ROM versions (the Dopod "Test ROM", the Dopod "Official ROM" and the latest HTC "Official ROM") and different versions of TomTom Navigator, includind the latest 6.03 without seeing significant changes.
After installing this patch, I have not had a single freeze.

Anubis

The cab has has single .txt placed on the windows dir, no reg or setup.dll, there are some interesting settings on that .txt, core max/min freq., screen resolution, and even SD Card related settings, I wonder if we can overclock it lol, or if there's any relation between the ATI chip and SD Card problems reported by some people.

what areas of your device does the ATI Fix affect? Usually, medicine for example treat something and mess something else if over dose is administered or something similar. In the case of the ATIFix, if it works great on not freezing the software, does it affect any other areas or performance of the device? Phone application for example or camera or anything else?
Thanks,
Gilbert

My TomTom did not freeze any more! It also looks like the GPS a fix much faster.
But I really wouyld like to know what the fix is actually doing to the device...
I would not like to have my device get stuck kust because of having tomtom not to freeze anymore...

Does anyone have the original atihwtbl0.txt from Dopod ROM 1.23.707.6
Tried the patch on my Trinity and my sd no longer works. I have to remove the card to get the phone to boot.
If I put the card back in it hangs when trying to access the SD :(

I have installed the FIX on my P3600 with firmware Turchino_ITA_1.23.408.1_1.38.00.11_GPS.zip, and now stop FIX with TTN 6 (6.030).

This is my original file - from the same rom as you (just copied it over before installing the program). If you are just having trouble with the SD card you could try just changing that section of the file back to the original - I haven't compared the two files as yet though.

I have installed the ATIFix.cab "hack" and tomtom works oke.
Everything seems to work oke...
But I can not send any MMS messages
I do not know if I could before.
Does more people have this problem?
Can someone confirm that he or she can still send MMS messages?
Thanx!

Interesting, the DOPOD 1.23 version is newer, and there is no difference on the SD Card configuration!

The freezing issue has gotten so bad (on application launch, when going through the menu, typing in an address, etc.), I had to try something so I reduced the baud rate from 115K to 4.8K (TomTom default for external GPS unit) and low and behold; no freezing. I don't know if it's just coincidence but it's been stable after several launches and multiple menu searches and address entries. If it starts to freeze again, I'll post here.

I am surprised why so many people are still having trouble with this fixing issue. I use the FIRST Dopod test rom with GPS enabled (1.23.707.2 with radio version 1.29.00.11) this version seems to be the only rom that works great with ALL GPS programs like TomTom 6.030. Never had any freeze. With all other Roms, which I have tried too, I had freezes too, even with the 6.030 TomTom version.
I also use wififofum2 for wardriving, and oziexplorer CE in which I have very detailed cards for navigation off road, and they both use GPS and never have any freeze. Besides that I always have a cold fix within 2 minutes, and a warm fix within seconds. Hopefully this info may be of any help.

You lead a charmed life! A lot of people are having this issue with TomTom. It still hangs occasionally on my P3600 when going through the menus even after changing the baud rate to 4800 (although it did help a lot). I am hesitant to apply the ATIFIX.cab solution until I know what else it affects.

If you're talking about the ATIFIX.cab solution, just attach the P3600 to your PC using the USB cable supplied and once ActiveSync has connected, move ATIFIX.cab to your phone (My Documents folder is OK), and then click on it with the stylus.

I contacted HTC about this issue and they said they were unaware of the problem, but sent my request for a solution to research and development in Taiwan. They also said that since no (other) consumers have complained of this to them, it will probably not be a high priority.
So if any of you are still experiencing freezing (and are hesitant to apply the ATIFIX for fear of creating other problems), please contact HTC support so they will make this a high priority and develop an official solution.

I don't think so ... cause HTC is too slow for that.
It's ROM depended and I can say it, because I installed almost every ROM with TomTom 6.03.
mUn 1.25SE (AKU 3.5) with a new ATI driver (whatever that means), is now the first ROM which seems to solve this issue (default GPS settings). BUT I tested it (till now) only with the internal GPS of the P3600 and not with a bluetooth device I also have.
It looks like this ROM is incredible fast and has a stable SD-card (especially with Trinityhacks 0.2), so maybe that's the solution or the ATI driver or SD-card or AKU 3.5.
What I do know is that TomTom hangs if it doesn't find a GPS device at all or if the port is wrong configured. That it also hangs when browsing fast through the POI list for example, but not with this pretty new ROM.

Hi.
I flashed my p3600 (again :) ) with the original HTC ROM with GPS support.
I did NOT apply the patch given in this thread.
I left the hardware settings for the GPS on the max, but set the bautrate in TomTom on 4800 instead of the max!!!
No freezing occures, TomTom and my device works as they should!

That's correct, but did you also activated the POI's ??. I had the same with the latest HTC ROM release untill i activated the POI's. After that i got the freezes back and had to install the ATIFix to repare this bug.
