It seems that all the versions are working except for the WWE. However, the filename is identical with the official version mentioned somewhere below in this forum. So I'm getting it from rapidshare until they fix their page :)

Read the instructions ,it seems that you can only update your device online they are not giving us the rom.

I think I visited their website just when they were updating it. There was a 'software upgrade' link on the left :)

The 'download' button was not working yet. Then it worked. Then I noticed no file would download. Then some of them started to download. And the WWE was also a 0 bytes zip when I tried to download it.

Probably they will officially launch the page in a few hours/days.

I was able to download the Portuguese version of the ROM. I entered my IMEI and downloaded the RUU htcp3600_RUU_Trinity_HTC_PTG_1-23-410-2_103_6275_1-38-00-11_108.zip

I just checked HTC Europe and the download link and IMEI check are OK. I dont understand why you can't download the ROM.

:confused: I have bought mine from superetrader.co.uk and it is unbranded , unlocked UK trinity but my IMEI is not recognised by htc europe's site for downloading this official rom for which i have been waiting since xmas :(

I've installed this night the spanmish official ROM from HTC in my P3600 and enables GPS and have others advances like in mobile CSS, WAP, iFrame, etc...). Now have a new network icon for diferences into different conection types like GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HDSPA.
Also includes a Streaming media player.
In HTC Spanish page is the ROM and the demo of Tom Tom 6. Works fine with P3600. One city map it's free to download.
And the last is the GPRS configurator in the same page for MMS, WAP, etc...

This is all and sorry for my bad english languaje.

Hmm, looks like that link is not yet 'open for business' - you can't get to it from the Support site for the P3600. So the 0 byte size WWE file might be a dummy until they decide to officially link to it?

Note that if you look at the support page for the P3600 the answer to the FAQ question about 'Where can I download the latest software version from' is still 'There are no updates available for HTC branded devices', and the device specs for the P3600 still do not list GPS as a feature.

Rename it "something.zip". Then you can unzip and install it!

Just a few hours before the official download on the support site of HTC was available, I asked HTC via email when they gonna release an update of a german rom.

This was the answer I got today:

Hello Peter,

HTC is aware that Brighpoint and Dangard released a new Rom for the P3600 to activate the GPS. We will not recommend to download it. We cannot currently confirm if this is an official HTC ROM update. Please be more patient and keep checking our website for the new release, where you also can download it.

Hmmm. I'm getting an error with the Comm Manager icon on the today screen with the WWE version of the new rom. I used the stupid HTC install/way to upgrade... Maybe I should find a better way, anyone else had this happen yet?

Sprite backup doesn't work to restore your old data. The best I could get was to use a sprite backup executable and run it *without* using the ROM migration mode. It seemed OK but I lost all my software registration keys.

Trying to do it the way Sprite suggest just doesn't work and the thing hangs in the middle of the unsigned software notifications that come up after you initiate the restore.

Using the latest version of Sprite, and the new official WWE ROM from HTC.

What good is software that just doesn't work -- especially something as critical as backup software. Duuuhhh.

It's not there on mine either but I'm not sure that I could edit the name in that window before. If you go to the individual numbers, you can edit there (including the name).

I suppose you mean the settings for the GPS, HTC has chosen to hide them. To unhide them you need a registry editor and go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ControlPanel\GPS Settings ... delete the hide entry and soft-reset :)

I successfully downloaded and installed the GPS-enabled ROM (1.23.405.2) from the HTC Europe website, replacing the Dopod ROM (1.23.707.6). I have only had a few hours to play with it, but first impressions are that it is an improvement. The GPS seems to get an initial fix much faster and maintain a connection to more satellites - it's clearly only an 8-channel receiver, but good enough for most applications. I also got my voice speed dial back, which you lose with the Dopod ROM.

There isn't anything on the phone unless you invoke GPS with software. I just found a fabulous program called "Navio". Search for it on Handango.com. After I upgraded, I downloaded the demo version, and it worked just right out of the box with no tweaking or fiddling. I was able to lock on to 8 satellites outside my porch, which has a 30 foot roof extension so my window to the sky was very small. I have now registered it - just $25. Take care, as the demo doesn't last long, so make sure you try it outside!

This GPS unlock thing is amazing. Kudos to HTC for finally getting this ROM out. I have it on VERY good authority that WM6 will never be released for Trinity -- only current HTC messaging devices that have WM5 AND a physical keyboard.

The biggest thing that sucks now is TomTom requiring to be installed in storage memory on the device, and not a card. Anyone know how to move just the voices? That would be a start...

Thanx, that little app seemed to kick the GPS into action and now TomTom works nicely. It would be nice to if TomTom 6 installed properly on the SD card.

I was given the option to install on SD but it didn't, however I managed to create a voices folder on the root sd card with only 2-3 voices in and I can select them as normal (Jane UK English is data05 btw), not entirely sure how I managed to do this.

Being able to move the ZIP folder to SD would be a great help, guess we'll have to see if an update fixes this.

Guys asking about file locations for TomTom:

Although TomTom installs a number of its folders in main memory, even if asked to install to the SD card, you can still just use a File Manager, and move those folders from Main Memory to the SD card.

All you need to do then is to edit the Programs shortcut to TTN, to the new location on the SD card, and it will all work fine. (My Device/Windopws/Start Menu/Programs). It might actually be quicker to create a new shortcut- find the new TomTom Navigator file on the SD card- Tap & Hold on the .exe file and select Copy from the context menu. Now go to Windows/Programs and delete teh original tomTom NAvigator entry, then select Menu/Edit/Paste Shortcut. If necessary edit the new shortcut name to remove the 'shortcut to' part of the title.

When you run TTN for the 1st time from the SD card, it will create a small settings file in my Documents in main memory.

The NBH images inside the InstallShield EXE packages are the same however. The files do have different names: "RUU_signed.nbh" for the official HTC ROM while the other file is named "TRINIMG_HTC_WWE_1.23.405.2_Ship.nbh".

Some software recognises the Windows Mobile GPS Intermediary Driver, which is set for COM8 by default. (this is the Program Port referred to). Baud is 57600.

Some software (like TomTom Navigator) doesn't recognise the Program Port, and has to be set to use the Hardware Port, which is Com9, and Baud 57600 as before. (there are ways around this, but I don't want to overcomplicate things at this stage!)

So, basically, set your GPS program to use COM9 and 57600, and all should work, because that is the hardware setting. If that works, try COM8 as well to see if the program supports the Program Port. The advantage of that is that programs can share the Program Port, but the Hardware port is locked to the application that opens it.

If neither of those work, then either your ROM hasn't flashed properly, or there could be a hardware fault.

I think you should upgrade to 6.03. It is a version that is recommended by TomTom for the Trinity.

It took several months, but no matter what has been said in the forum, HTC finally released for FREE an official GPS-enabled (and working) Spanish ROM.

I Know I could have been using one of the many WWE ROMs around this forum, but for Spanish THERE WAS NOT A SINGLE ROM available for Trinity, so in case something was wrong, or simply you didn't liked.....

Just for the forum info:

ROM downloads OK
ROM Installs OK
TT6 and other programs locate the GPS in COM 9
Quality of GPS signal in the same range as my previous Sirf III (Leadtek) unit.
No "new" bugs found, just the OLD ones :-((

IMHO this is probably the first VERY NICE move HTC has made toward us (custommers) since they began branding their own devices under the HTC name.

Might it be just the beginning? Not sure, but indeed this is a HUGE step in the right way.

My personal Kudos to HTC. And certainly from most spanish language users.

Upgraded my ROM yesterday and it has been wonderful !!!!!! Upgraded without any hitches, Tom Tom 6 working fine with no freezez and after a first fix in 8 mins, rest are just under a minute, even inside the house, under a roof..... amazing. So far gps signals ar at par with tomtom bluetooth gps (sirf III chipset). Though yet to try on a long drive.

Anyone got this problem :

I am using Dopod 810 rom (using ssl to by pass the CID check) and when HTC relased their new rom, I download and try to update it.

During the update process, when my phone screen turn to update screen ( a screen with only three big lines of red, blue and green). Then my active sync disconnect, and the rom update failed. I re-try many time, but the problem still the same.

Anyone can help ? Thanks in advance.

problem solved. DOnt know the reason, but I uninstall the active sync, restart , and re-install. Now My phone is updating with new room :). Hope it work. Wish me good luck :D

I upgraded my Trin yesterday and it worked perfect. The only issue I experience from this ROM is lack of MMS functionality. I cannot switch to the front camera, anyone else experiencing the same issue?

It depends on the last fix... if from same position the GPS was closed, without moving, fix is way faster. Just give it some time, i kinda don't see the necessity for instant fix. If you need it all the time, just keep it on :rolleyes:

I know what i said, man. If 30 sec. difference seems to be a life and death situation for you, i am sorry, but as some other people said, you should be glad it has such a good gps solution (instant fix is not that important as keeping the fix, and from all reports it seems it does that just fine), especially since you haven't payed a dime for that extra capability.

Here is a report (use some automatic translation) on Trinity's gps:

In that review they say that normal fix is about 30 sec, so in line with the time frame i told you for SirfStar3 (which again is a much more sensitive chipset than the GPSone from Trinity)

You can still load the rom, just use the SSPL utility. It is available from several other locations on the net.

Just tried to download a latest rom from the official page, but since i got my htc from portugal, the imei i supply on the page gives me a link to portugese rom :/

If you have a GPS device, you can add a GPS settings icon to your Start > Settings menu using:


HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\Group = 2 (DWORD decimal)
HKLM\ControlPanel\GPS Settings\redirect <-- delete, or rename, this value

Note that '2' stands for the Connections tab, '1' is System and '0' would be Personal
Note also that this has reportedly disabled one person's USB connectivity. To restore, set "GPS Program Port = None", "GPS Connection Port = None", "Automatic GPS Management = on"

I've just finished dl the french rom and trying to update it on 2 vista business with my usb cable but no way, everytime the prog tells me it's disconnected try to verifie the cable is correctly plugged. Don't try on xp yet i haven't anymore...Is this rom prog xp only ? I don't think so but tried 2 usb cables and when it begins @ 0% the phone is disapeering in the explorer and the phone screen is blue red green and on it there is USB, ok but a few secs after, the progs telles me no connection etc ....:confused: :confused: please help...

Well I picked up my Trinity for $730 at launch, that was about the price they were going for at the time and so if the Trinity is cheaper than the Hermes now it must be recent price drops.

HTC Trinity was meant to have the extra spec of GPS, otherwise what would be the point of releasing a slightly thinner yet (obviously) qwerty-less version of the TyTn?

The damn launch price reflected this, so either way I've paid for the GPS feature and anyone saying that it's just a freebie is just talking nonsense.

You can get it from the HTC Europe site... but you need the IMEI from an HTC branded phone... I'm sure someone's linked it.... If not I can upload...

I've installed this night the spanmish official ROM from HTC in my P3600 and enables GPS and have others advances like in mobile CSS, WAP, iFrame, etc...). Now have a new network icon for diferences into different conection types like GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HDSPA.
Also includes a Streaming media player.
In HTC Spanish page is the ROM and the demo of Tom Tom 6. Works fine with P3600. One city map it's free to download.
And the last is the GPRS configurator in the same page for MMS, WAP, etc...

This is all and sorry for my bad english languaje.

HTC is providing FREE upgrades to HTC branded P3600, I did it myself!
Is your Trinity HTC original, or it's from one of the Carriers: Vodafone, Telefónica, Orange?

There is a copy of the official HTC Spanish ROM over there. I think this is the right one.

I installed the version that I downloaded from the HTC page, but later on I preferred to install the WWW one. Next step is WM6 (after some donations) as soon as I consider this mature enough. I do not want re-installing everything (apps and data) just for the caprice of upgrading OS.

Ahí hay una copia de la ROM oficial española de HTC. Creo que es la buena.

Yo instalé la que descargué de la página de HTC, pero luego preferí montar la inglesa. El siguiente paso será montar WM6 (después de alguna que otra donación) cuando me parezca que está maduro. No quiero reinstalar datos y aplicaciones por el mero capricho de subir la versión del SO.

I see it has been already posted, and it works OK.
It's the best choice currently available in Spanish. You may try also the more recent Radio Rom 1.41.00.11, it works fine too, and seems to speed up a bit Satellite lock time for GPS.

Es la mejor ROM disponible en Español. Prueba la Radio 1.41, (está en el foro también) va bien y mejora un poco el tiempo de blocaje de Satélites del GPS.
