Hello everybody,

I'm using WM6 for Hermes LVSW Edition (2007-03-26). And suddenly I've got several problem with my phone:

Sometimes it wont start after a soft-reset
Sometimes it freezes after a period of time
Sometimes I cannot end calls. Press red phone button onscreen, or hardwarekey
Sometimes when I open Device Information, Radio version and Protocol version are empty

A lot of sometimes, so I didnt know exactly what to do but I tried a lot of thing to solve it:

Reflash and reinstall all my software (SPB Pocket plus, Tomtom, Resco Explorer)
Reflash ROM and leave it without other software
Hard reset

Finally I tried flashing de Radio-Rom with version 1.38.30.10. And it hassen't crash for 2 hours! Wow!

Does anybody experience the same problems?

I had this issue with previous versions of WM6 but with LVSW 26-03 and WM Black 2.0 don`t have problems at all :)

It only happen 3 times since it came out. Oh well, beta stage ROM is usually like this. Same as Vista beta test.

I would suggest that you flash first Radio V 1.38.00.10 then do a hardreset then install LVSW again. And then you should test it some days without installing any additional software - especially those three you mentioned. For me and my unbranded HTC Tytn LVSW and Black 2.0 worked great without any bigger issue.

Another issue: When I call myself (Something I don't very often ;)) i got redirected to my voicemail even though my phone says I've got good reception! After that happened, my phone went to no service and up to good reception in 2 seconds.

What is wrong with 1.38.30.10?

According to a lot of posts here and in some other forums its draining the battery very fast.

And referring to your "selfcalling" problem: Every once in a while I notice the same with my SE P910 so I think its a provider problem. Sometimes I got the message "new voicemailmessage" although my phone showed me full reception.

Yes! So i am not going mad.

Well i was running 1.38.30.10 and i was receiving same problems. (My phone has full reception and callers kept getting forwarded to voice mail. Even SMS's wouldnt go through)

I changed over to 1.38.00.11 and its working fine for 2 days now.

I am running XDA .20 if that helps.

I have had this issue with every rom on my device. It happened with the stock Cingular rom and every rom I have flashed since then. It doesn't happen every call but does happen at least once a day for me. Not a big deal but kind of annoying when it happens.

suggest you try the genuine hermes radio instead, 1.38.00.10. It MAY be something to do with being a trin radio, or even try the newer 1.38.30.10?

i would blame this all on the radio.. i experience the very same issue on wm5 roms and i am using 1.35.00.11 radio, have tried the 2 different 1.38's and still had the problem.. i didnt have this problem on 1.33 but the reception was horrible... so i picked the lesser of the evils and stuck with 1.35.....

Same experience, the radio to take me less problem level was 1.34.

1.38 was very bad, lot of call lossed, sms lossed. 1.35 was not so bad, but lost same calls. 1.34 works fine (or as fine as it can) and better than 1.33.

So far im happy with my RADIO (check my sig). Havent ahd any of those issues, and trust me i had many of them. Business clients would complain to me why my phone was off all day long, when in actual fact i had full signal!!!

Anyway, will let ya know if something goes funny with this RADIO..

Guys this really is a problem.

All my friends that have the Hermes device are going through similar problems.

And its not network related, as everyone is on a different network here. Even though is only happens every now and again, its annoying and shouldn't happen.

Look Malik05, ive been thru 17,18,21,34,35 and the 38 versoin (what im currently on) and this seems to be the best one for me at the moment. I've installed this RADIO a week ago, and its only happened to me once in the past week. I figured that soft-resets happen to work..

can you give us more info on your device, such as ROM,radio ROM, SPL...all the info...

match your problem to the grid on the wiki with your device info, and see if it works, and then report back and let us know how it works out

I'm using a Cingular 8525, with WM6 Black edition 1.2, SPL 1.40, and radio 1.38.00.10, and I'm not having the same issues. I found my "freezing" problem and soft resets was from WAD and also a messy Storage Card. Reception is also excellent in my area so I'm not having ANY call problems.

ROM: Pro Black 2.0
Radio: 1.38.0.10
SPL: 1.40 Olipro

Solution should be: Flash new radio ROM, but I tried that 3 times now and it still doesn't work.

First reboot after flash, everything seems fine, but after a soft-reset it show NO GSM again...

Surely its gotta be network related?

could everyone with this issue get into the bootloader and run mtty.exe (search the forum for mtty.exe and how to use it).

when you are in, make sure you can send a command to the device by typing "task 2" and enter....this will return a string with your CID and other stuff in it (the wiki has info what it all means).

now run the command "checkimage", please paste the results into your posts. This will verify the checksum of the various parts of the device, we MIGHT be looking at a corrupted radio loader or HTC_BOOT (its a very slight guess and hopefully is wrong).

EDIT:: also can users verify the radio version in start>settings>system(tab)>device info. and say which radio was attempted to be flashed.

Yes, however there may be differences that we dont know of (but pof tends to be the legend with these radios :D). One thing i would say is that you need to update your SPL version to HardSPL v6 (1.40.olipro) (http://www.mrvanx.myzen.co.uk/hermes_guide/HardSPL.html) as this is the latest and bug free.

Hi everyone,

Been lurking and reading the Wiki, but this is my first post and I apologise if my question is stupid. Unfortunately I could not find the answer to my questions here.

Now the 38.00.11 radio update has GPS support (I assume from the Qualcomm chipset) compared to 38.00.10. This has obviously been great for the Trinity, but seeing as the Hermes does not have a GPS antenna, is there any point activating GPS. No one appears to have had a proven GPS fix. In fact, is it not just a power drain (++)? Aren't some newer builds in fact reporting battery issues?

I also noticed that the new Dopod camera app has GPS support, and some people were keen on getting this to work on the Hermes, but again why?

Many thanks in advance for your help:D . I hope to have my head round some of this stuff soon.

well GPS has been reported to work, just very poor signal strength due to lack of the GPS antenna. research has been started to add a GPS antenna to the chipset to get it working. as for people installing the GPS enabled radio ROMS(like myself) i got it just incase if we see some good progress on the GPS, ill be ready for it...

So there is hope... excellent. Even less reason to get the P3600.

In the meantime, are there any applications / today plugins which can be used to turn off GPS or ensure that it is off, for the sake of the battery?

GPS is already off, its not even intended to work, therefore it isn't activated.

Def convinced that WAD was a major cause of my freezing and soft reset issue. Since disabling Wisbar Advance, I had one soft reset in the last 4 days. As opposed to having to do it EVERY few hours. Still trying to work out if the Storage Card is the other cause. When it's out, I run faster than Forrest Gump. When it's in, it runs like the Slowski's. Trying to get a happy medium.

Ok, i have updated to Olipro SPL. Hope this will work...

According to my provider (what do they know  ) they reckon i need to upgrade my SIM card from a 32k to a 64k.

Has the Sim card got anything to do with it?

Malik05

SIM card shouldnt play a role in this situation...its definitely radio

bvdorsten
09-04-2007, 12:24 PM
Well the next steps I took were:

Try to erase the radio part with mtty. And install a fresh radio. Didn't work
I thought it might be a WM6 problem so I downgraded to WM5. Same problems occured
Upgraded back to WM6

Now I tried mtty task 2. But that didnt respond.

Below is my checkimage result:

IPL CRC checksum = 0xEDAA2976

SPL CRC checksum = 0x921BC30

CE CRC checksum = 0x975A2A4D

ExtROM CRC checksum = 0x82EA4338

Radio Image CRC checksum = 0xB65FF4C9

The strange thing in my case is that sometimes the radio gets online, but I'll have dropped calles and voicemailredirects. And in other cases the Splashscreen tells me NO GSM after a softreset.

Hopefully we'll get this problem solved asap!

ROM: LSVW 20060408
Radio: 1.38.0.10
SPL: 1.40 Olipro

I also noticed that when the phone tries to switche bands (for example between GSM and UMTS) it cannot receive any calls anymore.

Anyone else noticed that?

aidanbree

Upgraded to Bootloader 1.4 and reflashed the Radio to 1.38.10

I noticed that I had corruption on the memory card and so formatted it.

The phone no longer seems to hang in standby (so far) which is better but I am still getting unresponsive radio with calls going straight to answerphone and a message stating "cannot complete the operation" or operation failed (something like that) when trying to make calls. The signal goes from a full signal to having an exclamation mark then it effectively looks as though the radio reboots (?) as the signal starts with a few dots .... then goes back to a full signal.

Sometimes when dialing the Phone icon appears but nothing happens. The cancel button will not function and the only was to avoid a soft reset is by toggling the bluetooth on and off which seems to clear the issue.

Cheers

Aidan

To bvdorsten and aiden,

I am going through the exact same problem. I did notice when it changes bands the voicemail redirect happens.

I'm currently using my old phone, as i cannot afford to lose phone calls from clients anymore...

Hopefully this issue gets sorted out promptly....

PS: Still getting my 64k sim card tomorrow..

I remember dropping my phone on a hard surface a week ago. Since then the phone started acting strange. Cannot end calls, freezing, NO GSM. Maybe the radio module is damaged.

I decided to try having the SIM swapped out today incase it was something relating to it. I paid 15 quid to have it swapped at a T-Mobile shop but still the same issue persists.

I am pretty sure that it is not a hardware issue as the fault only developed when I decided (quite foolishly in retrospect) to 'upgrade' the radio stack from the T-mobile shipped.

I am just about to flash the new ROM and see if it does me any better.

alright, so i flashed the latest radio...everything was working well for me...just now, got off the phone, i was on a call for about an hour and the call was dropped, lost signal...after it regained signal, all calls went straight to voice mail and i wasn't able to make calls...i turn the phone off(from comm manager) and turned it back on, but it wouldn't go on because flight mode was taking over...had to fiddle with it till it turned back on, and still, i wasn't able to make or receive any calls, i turned the phone off again, and then turned it on, and everything went back to normal...
