View Full Version : G4 will not charge, drains batteries fast

I just bought a "broken" G4 thinking I could fix it easily. It's running the T-Mobile 2.26 ROM with accompanying 2.2x IPL & SPL. Seller advertised it as not charging and mentioned that it drains batteries FAST. Well, he was right, it won't charge by USB, Razr charger, or MDA charger. It uses battery at a percent every 3 minutes or so.

As soon as I got it, I reflashed it, thinking that might solve it, but it didn't help. Hard reset didn't do anything either.

A possible clue is when plugged in, it says "AC only", and will say that for about 90 seconds after unplugging it, then it says Li-on battery. The word charging never appears and the LED never lights up. This is all with a known good, charged battery.

If I take the battery out and plug it into the AC adapter, the screen flashes bright and red LED flashes, but this all happens so fast it's almost unnoticeable. It will do this once every 5 minutes or so for hours on end.

I'm stuck.
Thanks

Sounds like the charging circuit does not recognize the battery or is otherwise not working. If a known good battery does not do the trick, your probably out of luck and will require a PCB change.
