I'm getting my HTC Advantage on Wed. April 10th. Going to take off work and spend all day setting this thing up and trying out different tweaks. I'll try to remember to post my findings...but I also have the flu so I may not get around to it....*cough* *sneeze* *ouch*

Well, he's probably out of stock now, then. I ordered one at 08:14pm, and if ltxda, just ordered 3 (I think with something this hot, it should be 1/customer) that takes up the 4 he had left that he communicated to me exactly 55 minutes ago.

I'm very impressed with Stan over at E-gadget Depot. :) He already sent me the UPS tracking number to ship on Monday with Next Day Air. Too bad my UPS guy always comes in the evening :( At least I'll finally have it on Tuesday. It seems like I've been waiting forever! I'll let you all know when it shows up.

I got my Advantage/x7500. Came in on Tuesday like Stan promised. They are great at EGadgetDepot.com.
I already have TomTom working on it with a bunch of other software. Only warning I can tell you is DO NOT install the GPRS Monitor that comes on the utility CD. It kept locking up my device.
I'm looking for some desktop enhancements but can't find the post. Anyone can direct me to it?
Also, someone wanted some graphics off of this thing. If you tell me which one you want and how to get it I'll gladly post it up for you.
One more thing...Since I'm in the US and use TMobile, I had to change the band on the phone for it to work. In case anyone runs into this. I initially thought it was my SIM but it was just the band setting.

I don't see any problems with the build quality. I keep wanting to wash my hands because the black glossy keeps picking up my finger prints. :-)

when you say desktop enhancement, what do you mean? please explain a bit more what you want so the rest of us and help you out. btw, welcome to the Athena Family.
As for the black glossy finish, it's one of the thing which makes me think the silver one is better, it just way too easy to get your finger prints on, but at least for silver one, it not visible. Well i guess that is the price you have to pay if you want the sexy black look, just like lots of mobile out here, easy to get finger print one, but people still love it. Just Advantage is quite big, so more easy to get finger prints on and easier for people to see it as well.

I saw a post a while back that had software which allowed you to change the look of the desktop. The "Start" menu looked more like the WinXP Start menu and it allowed you to make the Today screen look MUCH MUCH better. I'm still searching because it was within one of the forums on this site. Annoying when I can't find what I'm looking for. :-)
Oh...and thank you for the welcome. Glad to be part of the new family! This phone is AWESOME!!!

There are lots of software out there which makes your Today screen looks nice, for changing the start bar: use Wisbar Advance, for today screen, use iLauncher or SPB Pocket Plus, and Pocket Breeze.

How do you like the TomTom v.6 on the device? Is it quick and responsive? Since you are in the US , do you use it for navigation ?

Tomtom is actually great. It's responsive and they let you download ONE map for free. Yes I use it to navigate. One reason to get this phone was to replace my GPS receiver, cell, digital camera, etc. It's just AWESOME. Even works very well with TrueVGA loaded on the phone.

hey,
i got it today, too.
it's very well looking, fast etc.
truevga works perfectly with mine as well (as long as i don't install spb mobile shell, followed by a hardreset).
but i can't find the product code of tomtom6... where is it? i wanna buy some maps for my us-trip (still have to choose between full usa and canada or just the western map).
but before that: i'm not that familiar with gps and esp. tomtom. do i always need a gsm connection for gps to work? or can i use gps and tomtom offline?
thx.

you don't need gsm for it to work, so you can turn you phone off and it will still work.

I actually have some TomTom North American maps that I used on a previous install that I'm trying to figure out how to install onto my phone. They aren't in CAB format though. They are on my CD/DVD.

copy them into your SD or MD and set the map location to that folder.

unfortunatly you do not get a product ID for the TOM TOM on your device. You get one free map download. In us that is only one city. If you need more maps, you can get them online at tomtom.
It seems the version with the device it just a teaser. But if you only need in locally, then you can just get the map that is local to you.

well, that's cool, isn't it.
everywhere is said and written that you get free tomtom but you don't get a product id? something's wrong here.
i already downloaded the free map and was directed to a htc page where a discount code was given to save money. so i don't understand why they give us a discount code (directly from htc) when you can't use it as there's no product id.

Maybe the discount code is so you can go back and purchase new voices, maps, etc. at a discount for your product?

well, that's my problem. i can only use the discount code in combination with the product id. and tomtom should be the normal full version. really strange.

I used Wisbar Advance 2 and Wisbar Advance Desktop. LOTS of skinning involved in this one, but so much nicer to use in my opinion (at least eye candy wise.

The product code in TomTom 6 is related to the maps you buy not really the application by the looks of things.
The discount code given with my free map actually didn't seem to hany effect on the price of maps when I wanted to buy more either.
If you need your Tomtom device code however, you can get that by clicking the satellite bars on the bottom right and then clicking the version number on the status screen that loads afterwards.

I don't get the product code recognised when I try to enter it unde My Products in TomTom. It says it is not a valid product code. The code is two groups of letters and numbers mixed.
Update: By going to www.tomtom.com/home I managed to enter the device code which you get by following the guide in the earlier post. You do not get the product code which is three groups of numbers/letters. I tried to enter the promotion code in both the shop for buying 2007 maps and in the promotion code field on the HOME page. It wasn't recognised as a valid code.
Sad.

The TomTom6 software is free, but you get a free map for your city. You can use the discount code to purchase the full versions with the maps of Western Europe for about 80 Euros.

Thank you for the link. The price for me was 99 euros not 80 and thats actually the same price as the download price of western europe. I get the software twice and a dvd thats the difference. Not much of a bargain to me.

I just scrapped the free version and purchased the full product for $150.00 USD with all US and Canada maps.

Hi,
In another thread I wrote a little "how to (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1284279#post1284279)" about using the Tomtom discount code. I hope this helps.

Bin TomTom and get i-Go (there are torrents available). Check in the Athena threads for the comments of those that have made the switch (I think it's in the 'Top Ten Apps' thread).
