Hi, after speaking to Midget_1990, I have patched the RUU for the Universal to allow flashing with any CID on your phone, this is the official Universal RUU (with a slight GUI mod by someone Midget_1990 mentioned)
so have at it... enjoy.

it does work... just has the minor caveat that it'll try to flash a Universal when it's not actually plugged in... so try not to be a complete plank with it.

Is it possible that you will make a HardSPL for Universal?
We still have no way to recover bricked radio...

we were discussing that earlier. the nogsm shows when the radio bootloader is not written to the device properly for whatever reason. its still early days but it may be possible to create a new radio bootloader that cant be overwritten so that problem wont occur. however it wont fix thoses who allready ahve the problem.

ok, if you are flashing a radio, and you brick your radio, but not the radio bootloader, then you should be able to recover by reflashing.
if you brick the Radio bootloader, then unfortunately, there is no way for you to recover from this; possibly the only way of recovery is directly accessing the radio chip pins via whatever interface it is... perhaps i2c? and flashing on a radio BL again through a separate interface... meaning you then need a radio bootloader binary in the correct format.

ok, if you are flashing a radio, and you brick your radio, but not the radio bootloader, then you should be able to recover by reflashing.
Not in 100% of the cases... there are some situations where the radio bootloader is intact, but the radio is screwed, this causes all bootloader commands that require radio seclevel to be queried to hang the device (like 'task 32' or 'info 2'), thus not being able to flash it with the usual RUUs.
If this happens, it can easily be fixed with hermflasher (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296436) by flashing the raw radio without prior authenticating to bootloader.

Dear Dr. PDAs
My Universal is suffering for bad blocks of Radio ROM i guess.
it Says NO GSM when boots.
Boots WIN CE very well
can't flash radio rom.
Please tell if we could have HardSPL for Universal or is there any other way to recover it...
waiting.

Hi,
Can i use this RUU combined with the original ROM from O2 to flash?
My current ROM:
ROM 1.13.82
Radio 1.04.02
ExtROM 1.13.188
New ROM available:
ROM 1.30.107
Radio 1.09.00
ExtROM 1.30.162
I have to use the bootloader mode to flash the new ROM because my XDA Exec has problem on connection with my PC via Active Sync. My Xda just dont sync with my PC where there is no connection established.
Hopefully someone can tell me what is this RUU? Whats the different than the original?

My Experience with NO GSM in Universal.
-If we talk about imate jasjar, it is easily recoverable, than O2, this shows some kind of differrences in radio bootloader or hardware.
-In both the cases, rtask 3 and rtask 4 command work, which sayes resetting radio or flash by external bootloader, this I cud never figured out.
I hv not tried to issue AT commands, will soon try and post here.
-the USB capture informs that the RUU could not earase the Radio.
Not in 100% of the cases... there are some situations where the radio bootloader is intact, but the radio is screwed, this causes all bootloader commands that require radio seclevel to be queried to hang the device (like 'task 32' or 'info 2'), thus not being able to flash it with the usual RUUs.

Something like this that also bypasses the 50mb file size requirement for the Herald/Atlas and Artemis would be AWESOME. Pof, do you think you can give me some tips on how to mod the Herald RUU?

well, what kind of update do you want to do? Have you already downloaded something? Do you want to update just the Radio? The Bootloader? The CE? Or simply the "whole package"?

Hi pof,
Could you make it possible to use your HTCFlasher tool to unbrick Herlad devices with similar problem?
Not in 100% of the cases... there are some situations where the radio bootloader is intact, but the radio is screwed, this causes all bootloader commands that require radio seclevel to be queried to hang the device (like 'task 32' or 'info 2'), thus not being able to flash it with the usual RUUs.

so if just use this RUU i dont need to remove CID/EROM locks before upgrading, this ruu will atuomatically unlock cid/erom?
I am also looking for an answer for this, as the wiki says a few confusing things:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Uni_ROM_Upgrade
firstly; "4. Before proceeding, you need to make sure that you unlock your PDA COMPLETELY. This includes removing CID/EROM locks etc. "
The links given afterwards are to folders which have the SIM unlock, but nothing else obviously universal specific. IT then goes on to say:
"5. Download the unlocker, transfer it to your PDA. Running the unlocker on your PDA should display a "SUCCESS" message and do an automatic soft reboot to ensure everything is unlocked!
6. Now you need to download and install ?UniversalRUU from here or here. This is the software that actually does the ROM updating!"
This says *after* unlocking the CID/erom (with no howto), you can unlock the SIM via step 5..
So how do I unlock both the CID and the EROM? The links I have found seem to direct me to "wizard" howtos, not "universal" howtos, and I don't want a brick :)
I have read lots of bits and pieces; are either of these these 2 things correct?
a) the CID is 'bypassed' with the new universal RUU rom thinggy - so is a CID unlock no longer nessecary?
b) the EROM is the extended bit of memory that you can write the hard reset install .CABs to: I have a G3, so do I not have any need to "unlock" the EROM, as the RUU does this also?
If anyone can answer I'll gladly update the wiki with this information well worded.

If I get a NO GSM message, which means my radio is screwed; but can still use wifi and bluetooth. Would this indicate a radio ROM or radio bootloader fault? OR Is there no relationship between the phone and wifi/bluetooth? Does anyone know of a fix?

That's exactly my problem, too. I'm confused by the information from the wiki, this RUU and the current version of the thingonaspring release (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=332737), which seems to use this RUU but says in the opening thread that the device should be CID unlocked. The link to the tool that should be used doesn't work and the links from the wiki page don't seem to contain CID unlocking tools either.
So is unlocking not needed anymore with this RUU?

The SIM unlock tool also CID unlocks. I needed to SIM unlock my phone anyway but I assume with this tool you don't actually have to CID unlock: always better to play it safe though!
The ROM downloads 'as is' contain all the files needed to flash your Universal if it has been CID unlocked, hence the warning about CID unlocking.
HOWEVER if you are using the Universal RUU you follow the procedure of:
Extracting whichever ROM you've downloaded (in my case Ranju v.77)
Extracting the Universal Ruu zip.
Move JUST the 'nbf' files into the Universal RUU folder from their original (ranju 77) folder. In the case of the Ranju ROM there's only the 'nk' (operating system) .nbf file to drag over, but others may contain radio or ms (extended ROM) .nbf files.

Thanks. I allready used the SIM unlock on my device a while ago. I just tested it with the current ranju ROM and it worked fine

Hello.
I own a O2 XDA Exec that I never upgraded (noob), so I never CID-unlocked it nor SIM-unlocked (I believe the O2 are SIM unlocked since I bought mine in the UK and used it in Portugal with no problems).
My question is if I still have to CID-unlock my device when using this program ( Universal RUU).
Do I have to CID-unlock the device before using the Universal RUU or does this program take care of that?
I've read the thread and I still have this doubt.
Thank you.
Also, since it is my first upgrade, could you post a small waklthrough of how to use the program. I've read a few threads but they are a bit confusing for someone that never did this as it is the Universal Wiki page.
