Too HOT TO HANDLE...Splash Artwork for Black

Hi Guys and Gals,

I have received comments that people dont really like the HTC splash screen as below:

I myself am into branding, hence why I have stuck with the black trend.

Now I call upon people to submit original artwork for a NEW HTC splash. After about a week of posts and submission, I will call a poll to determine which is the most popular.

Here are the specifications for the submissions:
File Type: BMP File
Resolution: 24bit
Size in pixels: 240x320

Ok, the only thing I request is we can keep submissions aligned with the BLACK theme, and the mysterious nature and attitude of the ROM. It can range from anything evil to anything sexual, I dont care!

Looking forward to seeing your creative sides.

I don't really dig the 2.0 splash screen with the black windows logo because you can't really see the windows logo clearly. The concept is sweet perhaps someone could build onto design.

I can't draw worth a shit or I'd come up with something. JJ I like your tat. Maybe make a design based on your tat with the windows logo for the 2.5 black screen. I'm a tat and pierced person myself...so anything body mod oriented would be cool for me.

But I don't wanna see no boobies. I got my own to deal with.

Or take the green Windows Mobile circle in circle design and black and grey it out with an eclipse @ the centre or something like that.

Still running Black 2.0 .. after checking out the latest LVSW and Dutty releases. Nice to have so many good options .. but for me Black is so stable and quick, I am not going back.

Just keep it the way it is, JJ. It's easy enough to change for the folks who don't like it. They've just gotta read the wiki ... and THAT's something they should've done already. IMO, I'd prefer if you concentrate on making the inner workings sleek, trim, and functional. The artwork is fine as-is.

The rom is by far the best released so far.

I have been keeping an eye on the dutty and lvsw releases and now lvsw is claiming dutty's is a fake!

I like this one, and agree that an already licensed and unrelated character like Spawn really doesn't do it for me. Honestly, I don't care if he stays one bit, because the reason I use BLACK roms is that they have most of what I want and little of what I don't in them. But I like this design because it's actually a Hermes in the pic and still dark.

I guess I just figure that if it's yours (or "ours", though most of us do little to contribute... ;) ), you might want to make it truly YOURS! Not necessarily use someone else's prerendered "darkness". Spawn is cool, but not what I think of when I think of an underground bootleg ROM.

That all being said, Black 2.0 is the only ROM so far that from the minute I put on my 8525 made me say, "yeah... this one feels good..." Great job, Jasjamming!


EDIT: Before I forget, maybe I'm in the minority but... I really like the black windows logo on the second screen. I guess the "Black 2.0" font could possibly be changed, but the blackened Windows icon is very fitting, in my opinion.

The Black ROM was "fast", "stealthy", and "mysterious" as an underlying theme, so why not use characters that exhibit the same traits?

Would you like to see a different approach? I'm up for any suggestions. Being a Vet, I'm gonna turn on the military-esq type themes in a sec. :)

This one is my favourite - so far ;) It's in keeping with the "deep, dark and mysterious" undertones of the Black ROM......wow, that was profound!!

One point though....shove it up a few pixels so that the ROM/Radio stuff doesn't spoil it when the phone is restarting ;)

And a final point regarding Jasjamming's "Black 2.0" image....make the black flag a little smaller (it looks as though it's chopped coz it goes edge to edge - it's not btw..) and do something/anything with the font size/style.

Apart from that, it's all good......thanks for the ROM Jasjamming, looking forward to 2.5, 3.0, 3.1, 3.11 (oops, wrong flavour of Windows :o )

This does match the quaility and idea of the first. This would be a good change. Revealing more of the spawn form showing growth from the last release.

Also all those Splashscreen submitted look awesome and it pretty easy to package it in nhb then offer it to anyone whom want to flash it to thier devices so why don't you let JJ choose his spawn Splashscreen and as for the rest of the splashscreen just package it and offer folks to download it and flash it after rom upgrades.

The only reason I'm leaning away from the splash screen that have a pic of a device, half of a device, is because we're all not using the same one. HERMES yes, but didn't kinds. I wouldn't want a splash screen with a pic of a phone that isn't the one I'm using. ;)

I think the color, no carbon fiber is the shit! I have customized Black's theme to use deeeeeep blue bars. This contrasts beautifully with the smurfy background pic which comes with Black. That #4 would fit right on in there.

The alien is just fine. However if people don't like whats included, the wiki gives instructions on how to flash a different boot screen, and to change the second splash screen, just replace welcomhead.96.png in the windows directory with whatever you like...

Please leave the original! While there is lots of really nice artwork being offered for a new bootscreen, I think the original is perfect. IF it had to be changed, I kinda like the idea of jas's tattoo used as the artwork. On the other hand, the second Black 2.0 needs something. The fonts do seem to conflict with each other.

in regards to the ROM, I am going to better it by releasing a NEWER build with newer AKU in addition to try and fix some of the bugs in 2.0 as well as add some customizations that have been requested in my other thread.

in regards to the splash screens, i am getting bored of it and I either too lazy or too drunk to come up with something creative. I love the submissions so far, will hold a poll within a few days.

Also - in regards to the HTC splash, we can have two splash screens; firstplash and secondsplash, then when its done, have the WM6 splash.

could we work on something that makes a transition from HTC1 to HTC2 splashes?

Here is the new BUILD/CE/AKU (newer than Black2) that this ROM will be based on (if I dont obtain an even newer one by then). And may I also add that my builds etc are not edited to show newer versions. I only edit the CE version to 5.1.195 to allow BBconnect/goodlink to work once they are released.

Great!...just one question about the RAM...I have noticed that in version 2.0 the RAM is disappearing...looks like some apps "eat" the ram...in 3-5 days (no need to soft-reset anymore :D) my RAM drained from app. 25mb to 19mb...I`m testing Dutty`s ROM right now and the RAM is after a soft reset on 26-27mb...after a day it drained just for 0,5mb...could this be an issue with older (beta maybe) OS versions?

I have no batty installed so this is not the problem...but this issue was noticeable even with LVSW version anad other WM6 versions...even with some WM5 ROM...the Dutty`s is the first this issue is not noticeable (in WM6)

JJ, the style in black edition was one of the reasons, I decided to go for it and send you some beers. I think it is great. I have full confidence that the new splash will be fantastic, whatever you decide to do. As your ROM is so stable, I don't see the splash screen very often anyhow. ;-)

As for the splash screens - too many to list. This m3100 is supposed to be a functional tool not a electronic picture viewer, cos that is what it is about to become!!!
