View Full Version : Radio ROM 1.38 + WM6 - good or bad?

I know that some combinations of Radio 1.38 and WM6 were causing problems for some users. I was wondering if this is still a known issue or if it proved to be something else or was isolated. I upgraded to Radio 1.35 to let the dust settle. Anyone want to tell me if it is safe to go to 1.38?
You can see my config below.
(Yeah, I searched using forum search, google and the wiki. Couldn't find anything relatively definitive from a trusted source.) Thanks.

I am running 1.38 and Black 2.0 without a problem ... I earlier was one of the folks with disconnect problems with this radio and earlier WM6 ROMS ... but the radio seems to play nice and work well with both Black 2.0 and the latest LVSW ROMS (in my experience).

Thanks for the quick reply - I could not ask for a more trusted source.
Since your config so closely resembles mine, I am going to dive on in!
Thanks!

OK - did the upgrade and some limited testing.
BT, wifi, voice and edge data all check out and seem to be working as expected. Thanks again for the tips. Will report back if anything goes bad.

I'm using 1.38.00.10 with Pro Black 2.0 and i'm expeirencing dropped calls and bad call quality. I was on the the phone with my girlfriend last night and it kept breaking up and dropping the call after 7+minutes of convo... i convinced her it was her phone (nokia 8800 sirrocco). But after the 5th or 6th time it did it i switched phones to a nokia 3500 i have laying around and guess what... Call quality is 10x better and no dropped calls for a good 40+minutes!
So which radio is next? i think i'm gonna go back down to 1.34 or should i go up to 1.28.30.10?

how's the battery life in this combination?
Using Black 2.0 and working and living 80% of the time in an EDGE area, I get about 13-16 hours daily use.
I'm not sure about high speed or 3G only areas.
Not the best but I can live with it.

I've been running Black 2.0 and 1.38 for the last 4 days and it's been rock solid.
I live in a 3G area and with moderate use I'm down to 60% battery by the end of the day.
Moderate use..5 or 6 calls, MS Exchange push email on all day and the odd Text.
So well happy with the combination.:)
Looking forward to Black 2.5!

I also had problems with Radio 1.38, a large amount of dropped calls, unable to answer calls, calls straight to VM etc, so I went back to 1.34. Still having probs with reception but with far less frequency. Have used different Rom Versions, Black 2, LVSW, 3DES, all with similar probs.

I was following the Mr. Vanx's Black install guide after updating my SPL and radio to 1.38. I Selected the ROM image and was sent to some weird site that had nothing to do downloading the image. Can someone point me to the image or provide it for me?

So far so good. Still receiving SMS, Calls, Email (Exchange Push). Call qaulity very good. Haven't had a drop call as of yet.
I'm on the 3rd day of testing while at home, (EDGE). Wednesday and Thursday I will be in the office on a 3G network. Will let you all know this weekend on the results.
Battery life is doing well. On EDGE, push mail, couple of 10 munite calls, and probably 25+ email come in and then the reminders, all of which have sound. Just now hit 70% battery life after 8 hours. Then again, I tweak the batttery settings to reserve power when can.
BT, wireless, IR are turned off. Will test BT enable on Tuesday for battery drain.
Signature has Radio and LVSW version.
Will post more this weekend.

LVSW and 1.38 work fine for me.

Anyone notice any big difference between 1.38.0.10 and 1.30.30.10.

I'm using 1.38 and WMXL 0.20 and I dont seem to be having ony of the problems other people have been describing. I was using the trinity GPS radio rom which had a terrible battery life but after upgrading I'm getting to the end of the day with 90% battery with only light use. 3G signal seems as solid as it ever has and I dont have any dropped calls or data connections.
Will let you know more about the battery life at the end of the day. Will be on 3G data for about 5 or 6 hours today.

I am running Black 2.0 and was on 1.38. I work in a building that has weak 3g and Edge and the phone is constantly switching back and forth, causing dropped calls, missed sms, and horrible battery life. I downgraded to 1.34 last week and it seems to hold the signal a little better.
1.38 worked great at my house were I have full 3g signal strength. IMHO I think it is truly a matter of where you are as to which radio is better.

I had 1.34 with live 020 now I am using 1.38 with no problems.
I did notice on 1.34 that with a low signal level the whole gprs/ 3g data connection seemed to hang after transfering the first couple of bytes.

I'm using radio 1.38.00.11 and Black 2.0 without any problems at all. I was having radio lockups and other issues where i had to keep turning phone off and on or soft-resetting to use the phone on earlier versions of WMXL and LVSW however since moving to Black 2.0 i havent had any issues.

Is there anyone from Finland area that has updated this Radio ROM 1.38 or 1.40 with Saunalahti or other operators? How does it work with UMTS, without it and with long calls?
Does this 1.38 or 1.40 radio ROM still have those UMTS call droppings and data transfer break ups?

And no issues. I was on a two hour call the other night, solid as a rock. Even came down a hotel elevator while in call and only went down to 2 bars, then back up.
Not experiencing any battery life issues either.
Will probably move to 1.4 as soon as the verdicts come in though.
