I've been able to successfully flash the ROM to one of the WM6 editions. All appears to be working well on the TYtn. The problem is that now I cannot sync with my desktop? Is there a way to achieve this? Is Vista looking for an official copy of WM6? TIA...

no dont worry dude, how did you flash the WM6 build??

follow the final steps of one of my guides on this page (http://www.mrvanx.myzen.co.uk/hermes_guide/dutty/after.html) as you may not have sorted the various settings on the device??

(if you used one of my guides to install can you tell me which one?)

I used your guide to install the following LVSW(2007/04/08) RUU_Hermes_WWE_3.24.0.4...From your guide, am I to assume that WMDC should not be used in Vista? I should DL and use ActiveSync 4.5?

With vista you have one choice to Upgrade thats hook the USB up in bootloader mode and kill wmdc.exe make sure you unchecked connect via usb. To resync your phone again just check connect connect via usb in wmdc and it should sync right up i have no problems with mine using vista ultimate
with vista M$ does not alet you download or install activesync anymore your forced to use wmdc they screwed us that way lol

Yes, I used the bootloader to install WM6. However, making the changes as outlined in the tutorial (unchecking advanced usb...) does not correct the problem. Still cannot sync up...

Not sure if this is part of my problem. When I try to place into bootloader mode. I get the HTC splash screen. Over top to the splash screen it says "Select KITL Transport: USB KITL or Ethernet KITL (this is highlighted)"

I cannot switch selections, sylus nor any of the controls respond...

your not in bootloader mode!
the top left soft key and the top right soft key then stick the styles in the reset hole!
your IPL ans SPL will show..
what are you trying to do? sync or upgrade?
if your trying to sync recheck all setting in WMDC and connect your hermes with the OS running

OK, I've reinstalled WM6 as well as WMDC and still no luck. WMDC shows the connecting message and then stops with an error?

Still no luck in getting sync. I've disabled firewall and re-installed WMDC. Followed the guide to change the drivers, reinstalled WM6 and unchecked the advanced USB. When I connect the tytn to pc, a found new hardware window opens, check install HW automatically. Get a no drivers found message on PC. On the tytn screen get a pop up window stating connected to usb. Through this process WMDC says connecting and then error?

Do you have a link for the latest version? I thought that it only installs when Vista detects a pda attached?

In the guide dude

OK, I followed your guide step by step. I did a soft reset to get out of bootloader mode and placed the tytn on the cradel. A found new hardware window opened and I select automatic install. It searched for a bit and came back with a message that "Windows could not find driver software for my device." WMDC shows error...

I'm using Outlook 2007 if that may be the cause?

Does anyone have any more ideas? I'm tempted to go back to WM5...

If you are just trying to sync (not do an upgrade) the usb to pc connections setting should be checked for advanced

see these links for trouble shooting etc

Thanks eagle. I just tried to reinstall WMDC and did not do any of the changes as per the guide. Reconnected the PDA (w/advanced usb checked). Vista message says new device found...tries to install drivers...can not locate. Unplugged PDA and unchecked advanced USB. Same thing happens...

I had the exact same problem. It was syncing fine before the upgrade. After the upgrade, Vista kept saying that it was unable to install a driver for unknown device. I tried uninstalling WDC and then reinstalling but to no avail. As a last resort I reinstalled Vista and it started working again. Don't understand why but is working for me now.

This is a brilliant forum by the way

Turns out that OneCare was blocking my connectivity. The troubleshooting guide really helped out. I would encourage everyone to check their firewalls and ensure they aren't blocking connectivity and that TCP port 5721 is open to the local network.

Excellent Guide:

Hi all,

Windows Vista drivers installation sometime do the wrong things, ie: display driver cannot found even if the driver is already in the computer.

Choose the locate driver manually and put the reference to \windows\system32. The proper driver should now be able to load.

Tested with Vista 32bit.

Hope this helps.

I was just going to say the same thing pretty much.

I basically was having the same problem as everyone else and all I did was after the flash I put my phone back into bootloader mode, then connected it through USB. Once it was connected through USB I went into device manager and uninstalled the driver that we manually loaded to make it work in the first place. Then reset the phone and connect and everything should be good...
