English Dopod U1000 WWE_Language ROM_CAB

Hi everyone I have started a new thread for English WWE ROM. If you are like me and own a Chinese Dopod U1000 device, and wish to use it in English, then I have authored a CAB. It is virtually 99% there (I think) I have tested it quite thoroughly, (there is an Uninstall if you wish to go back to Chinese.) The install is based on the Dopod WWE ROM (RUU_Athena_DOPODASIA_WWE_1.24.707.3_104_6275_1.32 .00.10_108_Ship)

However as the ROM on the Taiwan device is newer, the CAB only enables the English language. Ok unfortunately you will need to do a hard reset first and then run through the extended ROM setup. Once the vendor automated builds have finished, run my CAB. The install will prompt for a reboot (in chinese, just select the option on the bottom left.) Once rebooted the unit should start up in English; now set your region and install all your apps. Please use this thread for Bug reports etc. Also credit goes to Dutty (And his set of Tools) and also Asukal, and also wu5262 and ahmadfarid for testing.

In Theory yes; however I don't have an Ameo ROM to test with. In theory you can uninstall if you are not happy with the install.

It worked for me. If you don't like it, via hard reset you can always return to your original ROM.
I did as follows:
- hard reset
- reset again before loading the ext Dutch ROM
- installed the English Dopod U1000 WWE Language ROM CAB, copied before to a Microdrive
- reset
- got an error; " The file VCDaemon cannot be opened. .... reinstall or restore the file"
- install the WWE extROM, copied before to a Microdrive.

Checking how it works now.

It worked for me. If you don't like it, via hard reset you can always return to your original ROM.

Ok guess is that the ameo does not ship with Cybrion Voice commander. You can fix this by navigating to Windows\startup and deleting VCDaemon shortcut....

Yes I have tried to install true vga, it is a bit flakky on my dopod with or with out the english. However what i found was after soft booting a couple of times it kinda of worked.

Also have it working with T-Mobile Ameo Dutch with the same issues reported above. I have removed the "non existent" program shortcuts and uninstalled the voice commander application because it is not translated at all to english. Will work on the registry values to correct the positions of the tray icons vrs program links. A few programs need to be renamed and then no-one would know this used to be a Dutch ROM :p

Now lets see to unfinished business.

On my ex-Nederlands version, the tray applets are out of alignment. This is how I fixed it. Will find time tomorrow to "unhide" some of the icons.

You will see the keys (folders) named 2 to 9. Re-name them by reducing the numerical values by 1, so 2 becomes 1 3 => 2, 4 => 3 etc. until 9 renamed 8.

Currently SIM Acess Manager is not responding, and the Backlight.exe control icon is hiding. That will be sorted out later in the day by mapping the correct paths. ;)

do you know how to hide the connection icon in system tray when sync? it waste me one row of space just for this icon....

The new one is ExtROM version: 1.24.707.105 and I have : 1.24.707.104. Does any one know the difference between 104 & 105? Is it worth upgrading the whole device?

Yes. This is the English rom. I believe its the same rom for all English speaking Asian countries where U1000 is marketed but I might be wrong of course. Anyone know the change from 104 to 105? Thanks

ok, for those people who buy their Athena from me, or from Taiwan. Be patient, DOPOD Taiwan will release the Rom update soon as well, and from what i heard, newer the the Singapore's one, so please wait. :)

In my opinion it is important to have a net english ROM for us, with a non-english system, because even after installing the "english dopod u1000 wwe language rom cab" we have a lot of garbage left in the system. I would prefer to install an english ROM without any conversions. IMHO.

How can I dump my ROM to image? I want to try change the page pool size as it will greatly improved the performance and we got so many unused program memory on U1000.

I have installed alots of programs, and did not hard reset before installing this cab file, it works, but need to move some files to

After this, need to do a soft reset, it will work quite well.

Slows down the PC lots? Can you please provide details of the rom versions you are running and any other software. Ideally you need to run the cab from new build; hard restart. It should ubinstall back to chinese. If not i will post another uninstall for you (bassed on your rom information.)

It's been a long time since the last post, and I've just come across the mighty Athena.

Unfortunately, I'm in HK and I wonder if the original posted cab file based on (RUU_Athena_DOPODASIA_WWE_1.24.707.3_104_6275_1.32 .00.10_108_Ship) will really convert a HK bought U1000 to English without bricking it?

Anyone familiar with the HK Chinese ROM help me w/ 3 questions:

1) Can I simply copy your original
"Athena_English_Lang_file_PPC.STRONGARM.cab"
to the Dopod's 8GB drive to flash it, or is there a more recent ROM to change a HK Chinese to WWE?

2) After the above, can I upgrade using the official Dopod U1000 WWE WM6 Rom to upgrade from Chinese WM5? Or do I have to upgrade to Chinese WM6 1st than change to WWE using the language .cab?

3) Is changing language on a Dopod U1000 a simple operation (or still pretty risky and unstable). You mentioned it's 99% so all the software/hardware mapping/functions are OK and most 3rd party software should perform as well in the new English as compared to the original Chinese?
