I am not an expert, but I think that the only way is through rom cooking. You cannot remove files present on rom after it has been flashed on your device

I may be wrong, but this is what I understood ;)

I think clearvue PDF is a waste of time... the only times I've needed to open a PDF file on my phone I havn't been able to...

ROM cookers might as well stop putting it in their roms and let people decide to install adobe reader LE themselves.

If you don't want it to appear on your program list, you can just delete the short cut.

just a little suggestion

go to download a shareware version of clearvue PDF, then extract the CAB out and out of winCE Cab manager, You will know all the files that associated with it :)

For you maybe.

I have efax and viewing faxed pdfs is essential for my work.

I've never had a problem with clearvue and if they removed it, I might as well be back on a standard cell phone.

I think this list will be useful for the mere mortal who doesn't have Win CE Cab Manager. Would you care to share the list once you get it done on this thread as a way to close it?

I guess I'm just an "if it ain't broken, then don't change it...unless its a ROM or other toy..." type of guy.

I've never had a problem with ClearVue so wouldn't know the difference to be quite honest.

I come from Palm where I had to use Docs to Go...now THAT sucked.

Acrobat can also be ran from the externial memory. I would like to see the removal of PowerPoint, that sucker is about 3 Meg. and useless to me.

i-mate's WWE ROM (ftp://ftp.clubimate.com/JASJAM_wwe_1.31.305.2_1.31.305.104_1.21.31.10_ship .zip) includes ClearVUE as an uninstallable app. There's a cab-file in the extROM called Default_MP_ClearVue_PDF_2.42.442_CDL_WWE_FontFiles .cab. It's 10.4 KB in size so I doubt this could be the full app.

The registry has information on installed apps at
HKLM\Security\AppInstall

Yes, but it doesn't really uninstall it - just the shortcut. The app is still in the windows dir.

Strangely, I have done a search for "pdf" in the windows directory and got the following results. However, I go in and change the properies to make them NOT read only and system, but they still cannot be manually deleted. Hmmm... odd. It must be because of that attribute called "In ROM". Rats.

My thought was to manually delete some files and then apply the registry settings. Oh well, cooking up a custom rom may actually be easier now!

no files for clearvue are labeled as pdf, that's why your not finding it :)

heh. I did not get files with pdf extensions - they are files with pdf in the file name. Check out the files in my screenshot - they are definitely related to clearvue. I promise. For example, one of the html files is the help file.

If someone create a Cab to remove the ClearVue PDF, I am sure it will be greatly appreciated by many.

Clearview PDF is coded in most of the ROMs including the vanilla and base roms. I think it must be removed by cooking. I do not like the Clearview PDF either. I suggest that one use the Adobe 2.0 which can be found on www.adobe.com. It works very well and allows me to view .pdfs on the road. I would mention that I don't know if there's a .cab file. I had to load it via my laptop. (Note: If you load and reaload it to your storage card, you will have to go to the program files on your storage card and delete the Adobe program files before it will let you reinstall it.)

I am using Bepe's ROM kitchen. It takes a little geting used to. You'll have to read the thread on how to use it carefully. The thread doesn't give you all the info on how to use it. You'll have to download the mtty program to do all you need to.

Anyway, if you use Bepe's or other ROM kitchens, there's a "Dump" file in the "Temp" files folder. In that file, you will find some files labeled something like:
"WTCVPDF..." This are for the West Tek Clear View PDF Viewer. One must remove these files from the dump file before running the kitchen. Furthermore, I understand that there's another file labled something like "initflash.txt" One must also view that file with a text view (like notepad) and remove the Clear View references. There may also be a .dat file that needs to have the clearview references removed.

Hopefully a more experienced ROM chefs like Bepe or Dutty or Custel can help us more with specifics. I do believe this is the correct approach but need better instructions from the experts.

I tried to unsuccessful cook a ROM but I did find out the following files and resgistry entries make up Westtek ClearVUE:

Files:

cv_pdfview.lnk
cv_pdfviewhelp.lnk
wtconfig.dll
WTCVPDFV.exe
WTCVPDFV.htm
WTCVTime.dll
WTImage.dll
WTJpeg.dll
WTPDFRdr.dll
WTPng.dll
WTZlib.dll

Registry entries:

HKCR/.pdf (just an extension reference, nothing to CV)
HKCR/pdffile/DefaultIcon : WTCVPDFV.exe,0
HKCR/pdffile/shell/open/command : WTCVPDFV.exe "%1"
HKCR/pdffile/shell/opendoc/command : WTCVPDFV.exe "%1"

HKLM/Software/Apps/Westtek/MUI/UseLocale : 409
HKLM/Software/ArcSoft/Arcsoft MMS UA/Config/UI/FilterForGenericObjPickerShow : ;m4a;.pdf;.txt; (just an extension reference, nothing to CV)
HKLM/Software/OEM/MASD/WesttekClearVue : 2.42.452

I have attached the cab file I created with all of this information.

I am not sure. I created the .nb file, made an .nbh file. I then decided to use mtty to install the OS.nb file which went well. I restarted the phone and it seemed to hang at the point where you would use the stylus to align the screen.

I will have to read more I guess. I was using dutty's tool.

Thanks for listing the files.

Might be worthwhile to mention that this CAB is to install the ClearVue PDF files and NOT removing it.

@Cookers:

In addition to the file list above, I found a lot of psudo-ttf fonts that can be removed. No other app uses them. Open Initflashfiles.dat & go to the Clearview installer to find the list.

I'm testing a ROM with all this removed currently. So far everything looks good and I've got a few more megs of Storage memory...
