Application unlock problem - HTC S621 from Rogers

Hi,

I have the HTC S621 from Rogers in Canada. I tried to install Route66 Navigator 7 and it sayed that it couldn't modify some registery keys, so i tried to application unlock my s621 and with all the fixes and utility on the web nothing worked.

Is there a way to application unlock the S621 from rogers?
I don't need to fully unlock the phone, just application unlock would do for me.

Unfortunately you have to unlock your phone (CID,SIM) before the app unlock will work. I had the same issue and did not find any workaround... On the other hand, if you're going to fully unlock your phone, may I suggest flashing to an S620... To provent further issues. Read the step by step in the forums on how to complete your flash first or else you get a Euro keypad.

Paid for the unlock, then i was able to app unlock the phone.

Well i guess that i will have to do that then.

But putting the original HTC S620 WM5 or WM6 on my HTC will it improve speed? functionnalities? Or just make it possible to install any application and put in any SIM card that i want??

I just don't want to pay again, and get so little improvement.

How do you execute the unlocker? Install on sd card then run app from pc? Or run from phone? How about the new rom? Not very clear on how to run these programs with active sync. First smartphone

MY question is... if I pay for the app unlock, and then install a ROM (say the T-Mobile WM6 beta or something of the sort) if that ROM has the locks in place again, do I have to pay AGAIN to re-unlock my phone apps?

Because that would really suck.

run the unlocker staright from your pc when your phone is plugged in and after it syncs. you dont need to put anything on the sd card at all. on your phone you will be asked if you want to install, hit yes, etc. same as running an install from your phone after that..

app unlock is free, CID/sim unlock is what costs money. you wouldn't have to pay to CID/sim unlock your phone it still will be. plus you have the unlocker already anyways. and you wouldn't pay for the app unlock cause it's free anyways.

The problem is I can't application unlock my phone for some reason... just like the OP if I run it (even using u'r instructions above) it doesn't work. It gives me the error message Phone is not unlockable

I've tried doing it manually through the Registry as well... but I get an access denied error message when trying to store the values.

Is there any other way to get around this? It's really annoying that I can't install certain things.

I was only telling you what you're going to be paying for, sounded like you said you were going to pay for app unlock...

If you use the signed registry editor from HTC you could have app unlocked.

It's cool.

And I think if they would just unlock it for you it would go against the reason they put the lock on it, to keep you with them. So I believe only 3rd party is the only way.

Aye it does. If it doesnt let you copy the exe on you need to copy the zip on and unzip the exe on your phone using an unzip utility.

Where could i get a good ROM to install on my new unlock S621 ?

or the question is, wich ROM do i use ?
I still want the phone to be usable.

Is there a way to backup my current ROM in case a problem happens ?

RAPI is remote api, which is something that you execute from the comp when the phone is connected - i.e. why its called remote.

RAPI is disabled on most operator's branded phones, hence why your file doesn't work on the Rogers one. You need to unlock using the HTC registry editor i mentioned by running it on your phone.

The issue I had was I was using the surreal unlock app and every time I did it, my IE was no longer operational, it would return with an error saying it could not connect to the host. Did a system restore and now I can connect to net. But I'd ultimately like to remapp my T-zones button to task manager but can't run word pad to do so unless I unlock phone. Someone please help!!

I've re-mapped a few keys by way of editing the file(s) on desktop PC just fine ( notepad, wordpad ) .... then transfer modified files over by activesync ( you can lock file attributes if you want but not necessary )

why don't you try that method ?? it is not strictly have to be done on the device itself ;)


BTW ... surreal unlock doesn't work properly with the S621 ... use the SDA_AppUnlock !!! works !!

The only app unlock i have on my computer is the Surreal Unlocker - give it a try. i've done enough things to it. Also, we can keep this forum for the Canadian owners. Some of the stuff i've done to it involve registry tweaks, themes, enough cracked programs, overclocking it to 228 Mhz. If you have any questions, feel free to ask - i'm flexible with most things except the upgrade to WM6 ROM. i might wait on that one or might do it in the near future. for now, i'll attach the file i have. Good Luck !

i have sync'd the SP_AllowCertificateInstall and regeditSTG2 to my phone....i also read on another forum i need to make changes to the policies folder but can't seem it find it....

can someone help me out.

All you need to do is the following steps to App unlock the Rogers Rom:

1) Download and run SP_AllowCertificateInstall (http://downloads.rogers.com/wireless/products/phones/HTC/SP_AllowCertificateInstall.cab) on your phone
2) Reboot the phone
3) Download and install SurrealNetworks App Unlock (http://mobile.surrealnetworks.com/SDA%20applications/SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab)
4) Reboot the phone again

Your phone should now be completely application unlocked. As for changes to policies folder, the SurrealNetworksAppUnlock.cab file automatically does this so it is not necessary to manually do this.

Curretly there is no free way of Sim unlocking this phone. Send a PM to jocky2001 and he can tell you how to unlock it for a small fee.
