View Full Version : Wizard WM6 BBConnect Built-In?

I've been a visitor of this sight for years, but never felt the need to post before. The reason I'm posting now is because there has been a flood of different wm6 roms that have been released. I have tried a couple and for the past week have been unsuccessful in getting them to work with BBconnect.
I have tried diffrenet mods like typhoonnbfdecode to get bbconnect to work but with no success. I've seen others have had luck but I'm not as fortunate. Browsing other devices' forums, I've seen much more support for the Hermes and the Universal. Some of the new roms that have come out for those devices have BBConnect support built in! It seems that the Wizard is not getting the same level of support.
This brings us to why I'm posting this thread. Those that have new wm6 Wizard roms under development, please be kind enough to include bbconnect support in that rom. If a rom already exists that has this included, please feel free to post it here. I've tried 3 different versions of bbconnect and have settled on BBConnect 2.1.2.54 as being the newest and most stable.
If anyone has a simple hack that works with the new WM6 Business Edition rom, please feel free to give detailed steps on how to make BBconnect work with it. That is the rom currently on my phone, but I have no problem trying a different rom if it supports BBConnect upon installation.
Thanks in advance.

With all the rush, I almoust forgot about it. I will try this man, but after the core is ready and all problems are gone. That's my first concern right now.
Also. has anyonw tryed this in a Wizard ? If so, don't be shy, let's talk. I always enjoy knowing more.
g0dblissyou, don't leave the forum, because I will hunt you for this request. :) You will test it because I cannot. I don't use that and for now, I have no idea what it is. Be a little pacient, BlackBerry Connect will be integrated.

It's good to know that someone is planning to implement this in their rom. I am anxious to put a stable wm6 rom with bbconnect on my wizard. Thanks for everyone's involvelment on this issue. Looking forward to this.

Will this work on USA T-Mobile?
Luckout

Hopefully, it will work on T-Mobile USA. That's the service I use. I have read on other forums that there has been success using bbconnect on T-Mobile with the wizard. But the roms were edited to get a complete connection.
Maybe someone with more knowledge can chime in to shed light on their experience.

If you guys want it so bad, then do the following.
Search and find all settings, and send me a "how to". I couldn't possibly know all this , I'm just human.
Stick to the point, for example :
"Do this and that, make that change...."
I'm over my head right now, I promissed a rock solid, ultra fast and ultra clean base rom and I want to keep my promiss...so work work work...
If you could provide the right "how to" I could include it in the base, so you'll have 2 base roms, 1 with BB Connect and one simple.

Hope you understand g0dblissyou, If you said you did it, I would need you to tell me exactly how ... step by step, I think there's no noob bigger than me in bbconnect :P

I wasn't successful in getting to work with any roms I had. I read post after post of others saying they got it to work. Yet, there was no comprehensive step by step guide on how to edit the rom for bbconnect. General steps were covered but I didn't see any posts that gave great details.
After hours of frustration and aggravation, I decided to start this thread asking for someone to add it to their rom. Hopefully, g0dblissyou will send you the details needed, because I'm not sure I'll be successful in getting all the steps right.

I compiled a new nbf file, flashed the phone, changed the AKU (if you don't do this, BB will connect but not pull any emails).
In the log it used the same data as with my previous rom (5.1.195, bb version 2.2.16 and AKU 0.2.0.0).
All thanks to c0rnholio. Everybody else with a wizard (and rom WM6...):
1. Use typhoonnbfdecode_v5 to extract the 800310000-os.nb
In the command prompt:typhoonnbfdecode_v5 -x nk.nbf (to extract the nk.nbf file)
2. Then use HEXEDIT to change:
05 20 A0 E3 02 10 A0 E3 A5 EF A0 E3
into
05 20 A0 E3 01 10 A0 E3 C3 E0 A0 E3
3. Then use nb2nbf_tornado to recreate the nk.nbf. Put in:
Model: WIZARD
Language: WWE
OEM: empty
Version: empty
CID: Empty (very important)!
Select File 1 the changed 8... .nb file.
Yes, once you enter that it is OS and put the cursor in the START field, it will default to 82040000. You have to change this to 80040000 and then press enter to start the process. The guide is correct in stating that you have to change it manually.
then flash the nk.nbf to your phone, change the AKU and that's it!!!
The AKU is like a core of the system (that's how I explain it to myself). The new AKU will be .0.0.0 You'll have to change this to .2.0.0 in the registry.
Use TotalCommander (free download), go to the REgistry, HKLM\system\version and then double click on AKU. There you can change the version. Then Swich off the phone (don't press Reset, otherwise the registry entry will not be saved) and restart.
Oh you also need the software ...BBConnect_PocketPC_BB_2[1][1].1.2.31

Just curious as to what BlackBerry Connect actully does for an Windows Mobile device? Is this like an alternative to using an Exchange server for push with WM devices? If that's the case, would I have to switch from my unlimited data with T-Mobile to an blackberry data service? Will T-Mobile do this switch?

I don't have a clue how to go about doing this. Every time I try to research it, I get completely hopelessly lost. It is something I've been wanting for some time though. Thanks much for working on it.
BBconnect would make your device emulate a Blackberry Device. You would need to get the Blackberry service from your provider and have your account configured for it.
My employer refuses to use wizard devices to access our microsoft exchange server. They tell me to buy a Blackberry, and they are perfectly willing to pay to get me connected. I just can't stand the d*(^(m things.

anichillus,
The later versions of bbconnet(.52 and .54) aren't specific to any carrier. I would suggest putting one of those later versions in the rom. That way, they'll work for various devices on different networks. Also, including it in the rom ensures that it's working properly for all those who eagerly want this.

Core 2.0n with BB connect and you can test it then

I may not be the best "test" subject. I don't know much at all about programming stuff. I'm just an educated end user at best... If we do this, it will take me a couple of days to get it set up, but I might be able to get it hooked sometime next week.

This may be obvious, but it's important to note that anyone testing bbconnect must subscribe to Blackberry service with their provider. Depending on the provider it may take 48 hours to fully provision your account if you haven't added it yet.
I'm curious to see if this works for anyone, because I edited the rom I was using and bbconnect still didn't work for me.

Hi,
Give me a shout if you need someone to test Core 2.0n with BBConnect integrated. I've spent a couple of hours today trying to get bbconnect going on another rom via the hex editor route, but didn't get very far....
If you've got an integrated build available to test, please pm me a link and I'll send some feedback!

I can test it too.
I have successfully used BB Connect with Tmobile and Cingular WM5 ROMs in the past. And I know my enterprise server and accounts are working alright.
I gave up using BB Connect a while ago because of the need to connect/disconnect different apns everytime I wanted to browse the internet or check other email accounts... But I can try to help you make it work in a WM6 rom if you need some help testing.

Device Type : HTC Wizard
I have no idea what is that :P but that's what it's written on the About tab :D

Hi ,
I am after installing your Core_2_0bb, here is my feedback:
After the install (unlocked g4) Blackberry would connect to the server , but it would not download any messages.
The code is correct in the rom , and the AKU is set correctly.
How I got is to work using your rom
I unistalled the blackberry service (2.1.2.54), rebooted the phone , and then installed an older version: 2.1.2.16.
I am using it with blackberry connect desktop for windows mobile to send the settings to the phone (Version 2.1.1.18)
I sent over the settings , and did a reboot (using the powwer off button) and now I can send and receive perfectly.
I do not know why your version would not work (unless my blackberry connect desktop for windows mobile needs to be upgraded??)
Thanks all the same, ill feedback again after a few days.

The integrated version 2.1.2.54 doesn't seem to work...
As requested, I removed 2.1.2.54 (deleted all relevent files as it isn't listed under remove programmes), and reinstalled it from an original exe. Still no dice - .54 doesn't seem to work with a wizard (on vodafone).
Next check was to remove .54 again, and install 2.1.2.31 from the Vodafone download link above. Works perfectly!!!!!!!

Some have reported that the only version of bbconnect that worked on their wizards was version .54. This was of course using a different rom altogether.
In this case, .54 doesn't seem to work with this rom. I'm happy for those who have found success with .31. I'll try it out later for myself.

anichillus, i tested your core2bb with bbconnect v31 and radio rom 2.25 (had to clean out bbconnect v54 first from both wizard and the desktop). so far works well on cingular! I had bb running on most beautiful edition (after doing some cooking), but that one was on radio rom 2.19. it seems it works on 2.25 well too, perhaps even better as I get better signal strength.
if i may suggest: for good housekeeping I'd just release a new version of clean core2 (w/o bbconnect) - i like the idea of a clean, lean&mean OS. if people need, they can always update it with whichever bbconnect version works on their wizard/network.
by the way, i liked the changes in the colors in the core2bb (you got rid of some grey backgrounds it seems). i'd keep the logo in the bottom left corner of today's screen, though, it's cool. ;)

Hi anichillus,
Here's some feedback on your rom;
It's fast and clean
Looks pretty good too
BBC works if you install ...31 version
Issue with creating new mail from contacts - the addresses are incorrectly formatted and will not send unless edited.
Wifi wont turn on unless you click on it in Comm manager and quickly hit reset, wait for it to boot and go in and click again. If you have to reboot for any reason it's off again!
Battery life isn't brilliant but that may be due to the radio version I'm using (2.19 from Tmob UK).
Apart from those niggles, everything else seems to be ok.
Thanks for the rom, been looking for one for ages - did try hacking my own but couldn't get it to work.
At all..
If anyone knows th hex values to hack the Mr.Clean 224a rom would be grateful..it's my favourite rom!!
Regards,
Andy.

I grabbed your Core 2.0 fixed (without bb connect) and tried to change the Hex Value, and I couldn't find the exact one that's posted on Page 2.
So my question would be did you re-create your corebb from your own original Core 2.0 or something else. It might be I'm missing something.
Best solution for me is to wait for your new rom with the bb connect version of .31 installed. Should we be xpecting it soon?

Hey man, did you base this off of the original 2.0 or 2.0n? Just curious, for some reason, 2.0n works a lot better for me and is much faster, not sure why.

That thing happened to me once too...and i flashed both roms many many times.
You could either hard reset, or reflash.
And the overall speed of the BlackBerry is just a sec slower than the Core 2.0n, shouldn't be noticable.
And with about .. 0.5 MB RAM less. That is because of the client implementation i think, because other than that i only changed appearence..don't remember any other tweaks.
I am glad that it works, thanks for your feedback.

Just to let you guys know, I have no clue on what this blackberry connect is all about, lol, but I do know yall just saved me an extra $10 a month.....sooo now to my few questions...
I am now on the blackberry data plan at 19.99 a month on my MDA
I am using the Core 2.0 Rom with BBC intergrated, I have my pin# and IMEI
What do I do next??
Also, Since I just changed to this BB Data plan, when recieving Picture Messaging, rather than they go to the MMS box, I get a text linking me to t-mobilepictures.com, Is this something because of the change, or is their something wrong on my end??
T-Mobile MDA USA
Core 2.0 BBC WM6
MyFaves 2500 @ $109.99
Unlimited Text\Picture Messaging
BlackBerry Unlimited Data Plan @ $19.99
Man, do I have everything Im not suppose to have on this phone?? lol

I've installed it. It seems to be working. I had to download the bbconnect software from the link on page 2 and install it separately. Now I need my IT guys to set up my access. I don't know what they need or how they do it. Should here back from them soon.

Thanks, everything working fine I guess....does blackberry internet\Email not show in HTML? I like the auto-more feature, pretty nice, just would like HTML formatting if possible.

the Core 2.0 BlackBerry is actually newer than Core 2.0n ... It's Core 2.0n with BlackBerry integrated and with some slight moddifications mostly regarding the main theme. So it's uptodate :D

forgive me for being daft, but what is the benifit of running bbconnect on my device. i have actually been using the 19.99 bb plan for a while to save the ten bucks, but why would i use the bbconnect program?
second, is there a way to install it on a different rom since i am using faria's?
thanks!

Hi, It looks like this Thread is dead, but I have Installed this ROM yesterday as I need the Blackberry Connect and wanted WM6 running.
It all works brilliantlly, apart from having troubles with the Wireless LAN not starting after I have been connected to my computer using Active Sync.
Anyone else have the same problem?
Any sign of a newer ROM with a newer version of BB Connect???
