masr1979,
thanks a lot for your response. I actually did this procedure and also followed what funman said but I still get this error during the flashing process under registry creation. let's umbury this thing in a more clear way.....

i'm trying to install these packs:
- btcrawler
- ppcbckcontacts (first release)
- resco 2007
- spb phone suite
- mobile secretary
- battery status
- memmaid

for each one, I created a dsm file, option file and a initflashfiles.txt. if one pack needed a gru file, then I put one there. both dsm and gru files got the same guid number to avoid that possible conflicts.
I got all guid numbers from that site mentioned by faria on his tutorial.
I also followed what you guys said replacing the failed one for the working one and then typing or copy/paste the registry keys into it. it didn't work as well.

that's my history so far.
I don't think that all those packs can be causing this. if I had overfill the rom, i'd get an error later not during buildos execution.

thanks buddy. I don't give up easily...so,lets have fun little more! lol!

ok try this, copy out all the the options, for the package folders. Delete the .dsm files, and change th ename of any .rgu files to package. Now fun BuildOS and then press the green triangle. and tell me if you still get that message?

It's good that you don't give up easily but what were the results of the suggestions that people have given you? You were given two excellent methods to find the problem...
1. Check your log file... What does it say?
2. Remove all the packages and try them out one by one to single out the problematic package. If all of them produce the error, there's clearly something wrong w/ how you're making them...

All packages should have an rgu file no matter what. There should only be ONE rgu file per package. If your package needs to write to the registry, put it into the rgu file named after the GUUID. Also, make sure when you save your rgu files that you select encoding to "Unicode" and that there is at least one blank line at the end...

I disagree with you statment, you do NOT always need a .rgu file, i have a couple of packages that do not have a .rgu with out any problems!

I know... several of faria's packages are also like that... I just find things easier to have a base set of guidelines before trying different things... Establish a good foundation first... then start bending the rules...

On another note... while I was exporting registry values using WinCECab, I notice that the output is encoded in Ansi so you can't just rename the reg file to rgu... You have to resave it as Unicode...

;) Now we are on the same page LOL. I'll let you know in a hour or so....wish me luck (hope I don't brick it!)

My first attempt was not so good! I unchecked everything! Although the device worked after a hard reset, I never got the screen to setup my touchpad... the today screen was flickering and my screen taps resulted in erratic menu and options, couldn't get to the screen setup.. i am assuming that is what the FWUpdate is for!

I will let you know in a few!

Hi funman,
i want to use this RK for prophet, but dont kno what changes must take into 'Rom' or even with kitchen itself.

Is not possible to give some guidence or include it in tutorial PDF?

I'm with Tsuioku, I always put an rgu file in there, xml and initflashes is what I don't always use since there's a lot of files I just need in the windows folder so I can use battery status to put them on the icon tray. Anywho epimazzo, like funman said when you delete the rgu files delete the dsm as well. With an rgu file in the package folder the kitchen will generate your dsm file and name it change the rgu and dsm file names to make them match, so you don't need to create them yourself. Your probably overlooking something silly, later on your going to be kicking yourself for missing it :p

Well first off you would need to dump a prophet rom, since the one in the kitchen is a wizard rom. Aside from that both devices use the same tools so I guess it could/should work, maybe some with a bit more insight can answer that one properly.

My second attempt..."FWUpdate" is the only thing checked in BuildOS.

I ended up with 44.36 MB of Storage and 29.03 MB Program. Everything works, no office, no camera, no voice command or CVD. Strangely enough the camera does work, it launches "Pictures&Video" and the window is the camera!

Update: Installed cool camera to the storage card, sent shortcut to the programs folder, set button 3 to cool camera, launches instantly!

Now does anyone have a Office.cab file?

Thanks for the great kitchen...I was very happy with your real thing but was starting to itch to learn to cook myself...as I am reading you go and make it a 1000 times easier than I could have imagined!!! Thanks!!!!

My touch screen started to give out the other day and I flashed this on just in time before it gave out completely. :( I am having to learn how to do everything without the stylus which is painful to say the least. I spent a few hours looking on eBay for a new wizard...it went out exactly a year after I bought it so no free replacement from Cingular :(

That stupid screen is taking all of my time to write packs - does anyone want to share their work for the community?

I'll try all you guys said and report here my results...hope I now get some positive outputs!:D

OK...

I did this and also removed all options.xml from my own OEM folders. DSM files were all created automatically and matched also as Masr1979 said. Have a look on my buildOS pic after I have done that! Got the same error when processing...error building default.hv and user.hv:(
I then checked the log.txt and the last lines was reporting an error while importing a registry key.

That is funny!:p First time I face what it seems to be easy...

I'll be around still sniffing..

Tsuioku,

That's what LOG. txt says at this moment:

importing registry file ".\Registry\0ba13aa1-8b09-4b89-a9e5-37c1010b07fc.rgu"...

wmain: (RGUComp) !ERROR failed building DEFAULT hives

2. Removed all my own packs. Left only what we got from the original Faria's package. Started buildos process...DONE!:D
It worked...no issues. Let's now start including my own one by one...

It seems that I left something behind ot the way my packs was build is wrong...:o doing a deep searching right now...
let you know later.

thanks one more time;)

Good work... At least we know the source of error now...
First thing I generally check is the encoding of the rgu file... It's quick and was often the cause of my past hv problems...
1. Open it up w/ Notepad
2. Go to File -> Save as... (Don't hit save yet)
3. Verify that the "Encoding" dropdown list is set to "Unicode"
4. If it's not, set it to "Unicode" then save... And try building again...

Hummm....something is still left behind...this time I got an error connection during flashing point and also invalid update utility! Sounds funny!:D I just use farias's out of the box package!

I then reflashed using Jwzg's rom. Back to normal. Let's do it again..this time I decided to unpack the kitchen and start from the scratch...LOL!

This is like a football game...Device 3 x 0 Me. :D

OK...after several tentatives, I now had my flashing process completed!:) 100%! but....a new novel just begins...:(

The OS gets stuck after reboot just showing a frozen start menu and what seems to be the third splashscreen with GSM signal ok. Here I can't do anything! Device is completely useless!

Need reflash now with another ROM....

At this point, I'm worried for not knowing what really going on here....need more researching maybe...

I am sooo sorry for you, you dont have much luck with you wizard, i wish i could just show you, but sorry i cant, but i am so glad to read that you are not getting too upset, man you take a hit and you still keep coming!!!

I know that if you keep on it, you will be happy with the end!!!

Keep going ok

One thing that i think you should selcet again is DRM, I cannot remeber off the top of my head, but i think you need this!!! I have it selected by default, so i am guess you need it!

Digital Rights Management, so your PPC need it to run some things, but i could be wrong!

Digital Rights Management, so your PPC need it to run some things, but i could be wrong!

Hi epimazzo,

Sorry to hear about your troubles. If I could make a suggestion..

I would delete your current kitchen directory and re-install.

Then flash with the defaults to get the hang of the process, and get some confidence back.

Next, start eliminating things you don't want or use. See what works or not. Someone has done this already, and it seems the FWUpdate is the only thing really necessary.

Finally, try adding your own packages in ONE AT A TIME. That way you aren't pulling your hair out trying lots of things at once.

DRM is indeed digital rights management. Its only needed if you need to play digitally protected music or video though, like from an online subscription music service, or purchased ebooks.

Good luck!,

It seems like their have been some people that have perform the same mistake as I have. Once I tried remove all the optional selections and cook. Once it hung up at 99%. The next time it completed but when it reboot, it never got to the home desktop. It did show the start button and GPRS but would never sync. I finially found the boot screen. Hold the voice button and pushing the reset. The only program that would work after getting to the flash screen was the T-Mobile 2.51. Just thought I would share that. I also found a format function while holding voice and comm button then reset. Do not know what hat does.

This behaviour is what makes me feel be part of this community and never give away! I love mobility and these little monsters we carry on our pockets! How can I be upset and just running away easily!

Thanks for the support...

Anichillus, I'll keep on mind your suggest next time...;)
Funman and adhaas, you may be allright about DRM and FWupdate. I'm not an expert in this field especially with some components out there...I confess had removed both one of the time I flashed. Maybe we need that FWupdate, while DRM we don't... cause I really do not care about digital music, ebooks, etc...but I'll give a try just to know that I can't be out of the kitchen and not feel the pleasure of having my own rom cooked!;)

Let's keep walking...

Great day guys cause here is becoming late and a movie is still playing on my DVD set called The Departed!

Cheers

I ,for one, use my wizard for 3 things, phone, movies, and games. I have all text messaging blocked so I don't need MMS and Windows live adds a bunch of emails to my contacts (and then my computer after syncing) from people I haven't talked to in a long time. I will use a different IM prog if I am so inclined. I can still access my hotmail e-mail wothout Windows Live so what do I need that for. I don't need VPN or Advanced network security, so I don't need enterprise.I don't use Office. So I want a ROM without all of those things... No "poutlook" or "TMail" running in the background. And with 30 MB Clear and Overclocked to 260mhz this things becomes a GBA. I have a 2gb MiniSD card, so why can't I install the apps I want to install from there...

It's not that we don't love this cooker, it is that we are using it for what it is intended to do, Help us create our very own ROMs!!

The issue I had ( contact selection sticking when scrolling fast ) with most of Faria's ROMs has been resolved by using his Kitchen! The problem was with the option package [ PPPCContactsMgr, FileAsCompL...] which when removed, immediately resolves the problem. Neither Xplore, NBD or WMBE roms had the problem!

I'm not sure which application in the package was the culprit, but if I were a guessing man, I'd say it was one of the two above because PimBackUp & TskMgr work well when installed later by themselves.

So I have to thank Faria very much for teaching yet another man how to fish..."build the rom as you like!" & have fun!!!!

hi guys!!
this is the fisrt time I flash my phone with a custom rom. I cid unlocked my phone and tried to follow faria's guide step by step. I am not sure, but I think that I missing something in this point
Now the command promp window will do its thing, then it will launch nb2nbf_wizard.exe tick the OS box, now browse to the file; FLASH.nb0
put the correct addresses in the boxes ,press generate.

I only checked the OS box and chose the Flash.nb0. I did nothing with the other boxes like Ext rom, gsm, ipl, spl, etc. I flashed the phone, synced and installed some apps.
several hours later I tried to switch the phone on, but it couldn't wake up, so I soft reset it. since then I noticed that the phone can't wake up after a call, an sms, mms or some internet via bluetooth DUN.
can anybody tell if I did something wrong on flashing procces? I don't want to return back to wm5, but first of all I want a full working phone. If there is something more you want to know, ask me and I'll try to answer.
Waiting for your help

1. auctually I didn't read the pdf in your signature, just the instructions in the first page of this thread. I can see in the pdf file that all boxes are checked, As I said before I only checked the OS box
2. yes, I did. I replaced the option.xml file, launched the createRom.bat and removed some things from the main rom.
3. I installed the usual for me apps, like spb pocket plus, spb diary, spb weather, resco explorer, flexwallet, tcpmp, sk tools, tweaks2k2 and AE keyboard mapper.

Yesterday night I tried to install the main rom, but I couldn't. So, I flashed the phone with x-plore 1.1.
What do you think? where is my mistake?

Hello Faria and team,

Faria after installing Xplore1.1 I tried your ROM and it looks too good better then others (i tried MB,Xplore, and PDAmobilez Xplorer final versions) thanks for such a nice ROM and article for cooking ROM.

But strange problem:- my CPU usage is not coming down from 21%, the same problem i faced with Xplorer1.1, but old 'the real thing' works great for me.

Also when i view Extended_ROM from GSFinder+ it is showing me strange characters for folders and files.

Also battery is draining very fast i applied 3 patches from forum for wm6 battery but no luck may be cpu process is eating up the battery.:(

Anybody know why cpu process is stuck at 21% and not coming down ? There are no extra processes in TaskManager.

WifiTray.exe
ScreenRotateTray.exe
PowerTray.exe
CapNotify.exe
poutlook.exe
smartkey.exe
cprog.exe
connmgr.exe
services.exe
shell32.exe
gwes.exe
device.exe
filesys.ee
NK.EXE

Any suggestion is most welcome and thanks in advance,

1. Are you using the bare rom? What have you installed since putting the rom on your PPC. Looking at your list, you should not be getting 21% CPU, What program are you using to see this?

2. If you get lots of crap when you view the Extended_rom, means it has be corrupted some how, that happens to me if when it auto starts after hard reset, and it gets stuck and I have to soft reset the PPC. You need to flash a new one! you can reflash with a Operator rom which has a Extended_rom, or look for faria Extended_rom guild, which shows you have to make your own.

If you would like to get sorted now, I would say try a hard re-set, or re-flash to see if you have the problem again.

If after re-flash, you still get it, you problem may not be the rom but something different. I do not have this problem, and i have not seen anyone say they have too, so sorry its like i am passig the buck.!!!!

There are no extra processes in TaskManager.

...

Any suggestion is most welcome and thanks in advance,

Regards,
Babar Shafiq Nazmi

Your extended_rom is corrupted, and you are seeing the typical symptoms. The easy remedy is to flash with a "stock" rom which includes an extended rom. I can suggest the t-mobile 2.26 rom for instance. Then reflash with the kitchen. Should take care of it.

When you say you chnage the option.xml, which one and what did you do? I dont think that would have made the error, but best to say everything to solve the problem
in the second post of this thread faria says to replace to option.xml file with the original one in the SYS folder. after that I cooked my rom, checked the OS box nb2nbf tool and then flashed my phone. that's all I did.

Hello funman and edhaas,

1. I am using cooked ROM as described in the faria's article. i just installed PIMbackup tool and batterystatus today plugin (new beta version) and nothing else.

2. Yes i can see many folders comes with Xplorer1.1 and they are still visible after installing Faria's ROM, i did the hard reset but old folders and Strange characters are still showing, may be due to Faria's ROM is not using Extended ROM and it is still showing old Xplorer extended ROM files.

Problem starts from Final version of Xplore from hong (PDAmobilez), after that i m not able to resolve the cpu process thing.

I will try edhaas's suggestion to flash back with t-mobile ROM (with extended ROM) and update you guys.

Thanks and Best Regards,

Dont worry, you just need to flash the radio again, press reset and hold the comm button, you should get the rainbow screen and then you connect up and flash it again. I would say ya upgrade youR IPL/SPL (ADDED THE LINK ABOVE IN ONE OF MY POSTS), but it is not needed to use the Rom.

If you dont load up again I would say go back to 2.19, get it working then try the flashing the radio again

Hi faria

I know it'll work flawless and i could flash OS.nb only by pdocwrite not by Prophets RUU( in past my device could never booted with custom roms, however it flashed 100% with RUU)

But thats not the prob for me.
Major concern r:

1)how can i change default Rom in RK ?

2)if i use Faria's default , what changes to be made to work on prophet
BTW i flash Faria's one on my prophet and hence i encountered
a)camera not working
b)battery unknown, hence no charging, no usb charging.
c) No sound, everywhere silent.
d)buttons not wrking properly
e)i could not got in Bootloader(

Hi,

After resetting to T-Mobile 2.26 RRU and reinstalling Latest Faria's cooked rom now my phone is stucking at crosbow splash screen, when i reset to factory default it start working but at reboot stuck again, It looks it is due to radio rom or ipl-spl or what please suggest.

My procedure, I installed 3.08 ipl/spl and then radio rom 2.69.11 in T-mobile RRU ROM (2.26) and then installed Faria's rom but with same result, after number of tries i m totally lost now :(

Whats the correct procedure ? after installing RRU version what steps are needed to install custom ROM ?

My hardware is G3, CPU OMAP 850, 195 Mhz.
IPL/SPL 3.08, Radio ROM 2.69.11

Sorry bud, I tried it,!!! I made a cab file but it does not like it!!! The .dll is not a just drop it in the windows folder type of file!!!

It has to be put in the rom by flashing

Here is the cab file but it did not work for me!

It worked for me....

After my tenth or so flash, I forgot to change the "option.xml" file everything was fine except the Irda. So I left it (have never used it). But it started bugging me. SO I used the regkeys (for the ten button Comm Manager) from the PDF and created a reg file, and then imported it. So I got a ten button Comm Manager, but still no IrDA. Installed the Donkey.cab (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=37877&d=1177549089) and presto IT WORKS!! If you want to use reg key, DON'T FORGET TO DELETE THE ".TXT" FROM THE END OF THE NAME.

I read this on the Window Mobile Team blog:

How is Internet Sharing better?

ICS is superior to the modem link technology in several ways.

1) Usability: With Modem Link, users need to enter dial strings (e.g. *99#) to connect their PC to the Internet. This is not necessary with Internet Sharing.

2) Uninterrupted connectivity: ICS can continue to be connected when you get an incoming voice call. Modem Link will give up the cellular radio for the phone to answer the voice call. Internet Sharing will stay connected in this scenario. On some cellular networks it is not able to send or receive data. The cellular network needs to support simultaneous voice/data to provide the best user experience. This is supported on 3G networks.

3) Full connectivity: When you are connected over ICS, the applications on your device (e.g. ActiveSync) remain connected to the Internet. This is not the case with Modem Link.

This sounds suspiciously to me like what is happening with wm6 and all the missed calls on Cingular. I have tried every rom and every radio and my calls go to voicemail if gprs is connected to get email, pocketweather updates, ie sessions etc. I know that Cingular Edge does not support simultaneous connections of voice calls and data. With the old roms, the voice call would take precedence and the data would resume after the call.
The reason I post this in this thread is my question. I used this kitchen before and it is awesome. However, I'm a little unclear about one thing: Can I just delete the internet sharing files from oem/oemmisc to flash a rom clean of internet sharing to test my theory?

Thanks

Is that what you are talking about. If so, yeah I have an issue with the wifi. It wont turn on. I press it and it just goes for like half a second then does nothing.

Ok, I thought I was getting pretty good at this ROM game, read every page, printed the PDF (great job by the way), etc etc. So I cooked up the ROM, backed down my Wizard to T-Moble 2.26 and Flashed in the new Faria. Now let me make a point here, I DIDNT WANT to do this! I really like the Real Thing ROM, but I need one fix from this verison, the DRM stuff. And I'm hopping that my BT issues will go away as well, but I digress... The ROM flashed fine no 99% issues, so after restart I restore my back up file and get a message that one of the systray apps cant load, then i noticed that the battery status icon doesnt work either. So.. I suspect that the ver of OMAP in this build is not the same as the Real Thing or I didnt select the correct package from the BuildOS table.
Any of you super talented people have any advise for me?
My Wizard just finished reflashing Real Thing...

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Define "back up file"... Are you talking like a Spb backup, or SKtools backup (or similar)??? NEVER (let me say that again... NEVER) restore a backup from one rom to another. You are asking for nothing but problems when you do this. Most of the backup utilities backup system settings (so registry and more) and each rom is a little different in what is and isn't there. When you put in registry settings (or take out settings that are in the new rom that weren't in the old) you have no guarentee that anything will work.

I see two choices for you... 1) Hard Reset and start over. 2) Reflash and start over. Either way, do NOT use your backup from "the real thing" rom (you can use the selective or custom restore on the backup by choosing not to restore system information since this is WM6 to WM6, but this is why I now mainly just use PIM Backup to get most of the files I want / need, and I keep all of my My Documents and stuff on my storage card (so it isn't wiped).

So now that my toy has rebooted on RT, I noticed something else; the telco configuration script isn't in the kitchen version either. Again, I am not being critical or looking for the perfect ROM, I know I must have missed something in the build process so I am looking for a little advice to get me on track.

thanks

Yes, I'm using Sbpback up, I was thinking that since they are both Faria and both WM6 and both based on the same ROM that a full reg backup would work. I guess not.

I will try backing up my apps only and re-flash with a kitchen ROM.

So, to my original question... is the Ver of OMAP the same in both Faria ROMs?

BTW... is there a way to save the kitchen ROM after cooking or should I cook a new one each time?

Nope, I know people that did this between Xplore 1.0 and Xplore 1.1 and it caused all sorts of problems for them (weird stuff that nobody else had issues with).

No idea (sorry) I never used "the real thing" much.

Under your devwiz directory there is a directory called flashrom. That is your new rom flashing area. You can make a copy of that (if you want to save it) or just go directly to it and run the rom upgrade utility exe found in there to flash your rom. You do NOT have to re-cook each time (only do that if you are going to make changes, IMO).

Yeah, this can be done with a cab file, it just won't be "built-in" to the rom. You have to recook it if you want it built-in. Otherwise, just run the cab file. For instance I run the mUn Keyboard file after I reflash my cooked rom so I get that skinned keyboard. I now see the XPlore 2.0 has a new keyboard skin also (but I think I still prefer the mUn one with the green keys that stand out to me).

I don't have a list off hand. The 4th post of this thread, Faria lists everything in the rom / kitchen. You can open up the various folders under the OEM directory and see the executables that will be moved to your phone and get an idea of what apps are included with each "package".

Cool. FWIW: I just deleted your .dsm fiile and created a blank file called 'package.rgu'. Then ran the buildos.exe by hand and clicked on the green arrow to have it process. When it finishes, I have a new .rgu and .dsm with unique GUID (very simple :). I also created another package for the XPlore keyboard too. The buildos.exe doesn't like that there are two packages that have the same filename in them though, but it still created the GUID for each.

Ok I figured this out. I shouldn't have created a package.rgu since there are no registry entries for this, but a package.dsm. The .rgu was messing it up. I removed the .rgu file and now the buildos.exe is happy. Very, very cool.

BTW: Funman, I'm going through your PDF doc now. EXCELLENT work! Is the one in the one located at: ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/WIZARD/ROMS/Faria%20WM6%20ROM%20Kitchen.pdf the latest one? Has a date of 26-Apr on it.

Ya the copy that is on the FTP is the newest copy out, but i am updating all the time! So if you think something could be wrote better and something to be added just ket me know!

Ok, I've updated the Share your OEM packages thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304721 ) with packages for GSFinder, NoData, XPlore Keyboard Skin, and mUn Keyboard Skin (thanks funman for showing me how easy this was ;)).

There will be more coming. If any of you have packages made up, feel free to add them to that thread.

Faria if you see this, can you add a link in one of the first posts pointing over to that thread since it will be a place for people to share packages for this kitchen?

I'll start working on some more complex packages (ones with reg entries) tomorrow.

Ok guys, check this out, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304842, as you can see in the first post, i have already got my own. But this guys in the hermes one is really good on the coreldraw, so if you would like a 1st, 2nd or 3rd splash screen, if you ask him really nice, you may make you one. Bring it back here and I will show you how to install it on your PPC or build the file for you. (1st and 2nd, you will need to make a RRU file, 3rd can be put on to you Phone and in a package)

Hi Faria, Waiting eagerly for any directions on how to use the RK for prophet.
Thanks for the RK

I dont know if WM6 ported to the prophet, and I dont know that much about it so i dont think you can port the RK to the prophet.

But I will stand corrected if I am wrong!

Edit :

Post 63

this RK IS ALSO COMPATIBLE WITH THE PROPHET.

I am using a Wm6 rom on my prophet, which was ported from Wizard.. Am keeping my fingers crossed..

Yeah yeah, I started the Wiki but then didn't go further with it. Let me see about getting those pages into shape over the next few days. Only issue is that I don't think I can store files in the Wiki but will ahve to have someplace to upload the files and then point the wiki entries to it. I guess I could create an area in the ftp site here for these in the Upload area and then use that. Or use the forum entry and point the Wiki directly to each entry.

I'll play around with this and see what I can come up with. IF anyone else has suggestions for this, let me know... I'm hoping some of you will help contribute some packages to this.

Your phone has to be CID Unlocked. If you flash a new rom and the rom doesn't change then you aren't CID Unlocked. Read this:

Is there a way to flash the rom without going back through all the rebuilding steps. Basically I think my computer just decided to close some USB connections right before the flash so it obviously didn't take. I have the complete verison of the ROM nk.nkb and all now how to I just have that flash instead of rebuilding the entire thing again?
As so far, when the bat file or I load the romupdate it says update From Version 1.2 too blank.

That might have been two questions but...yes well...thanks in advance.

(BTW yes its unlocked, i have a WM5 Mr. Clean on it now...)

Hi. Thanks for your help. Yes, I have a g4 CID Locked wizard, and I have succesfully instaled the 2.26 ROM of T-Mobile. THe Tutorial you pointed out is really good thanks. But is it not that ROM the real thing? I would like to install the revised version of FARIA´s crossbow and I can´t see the way of doing it following those steps. Is there an EXE file for the latest Faria ROM? Thanks

By the way thanks for your work FARIA

Is there a way to flash the rom without going back through all the rebuilding steps.
Yeah, the way it works is that it builds everything into the flashrom directory and then just runs the rom update utility there. So you can just go to the flashrom directory and run the rom update utility. You just need to make sure the nk.nbf file is legit. If not it will be a bad flash (but should be recoverable with a clean rom flash).

The 2.26 rom is not "the real thing" but a WM5 rom. What you will need to do is similar to my reply above but you have to do it the way a G4 does it (which I don't know those steps). Use the files in the flashrom directory and use shell tool on that (I think I'm saying that right). Does that make sense? Someone familiar with G4's may be able to answer this better, but basically your flashrom directory is the same as a regular rom update exe file that has been unarchived.

Just to restate mfrazz's advice: Run the kitchen to set up the rom the way you like it. After you get to the screen where you fill in the flash rom and the logo and startup screens, do that and let it run. After it finishes it will try to go right into flashing your wizard, but don't. Exit out of all the kitchen programs. Now look in the C:\Dev_WIZcrossbow Clean-V2 directory. Then in the flashrom subdirectory. You will find an nk.nbf file in there. Now follow the directions in the link mfrazz gave you and which you started using. But instead of using the original nk.nbf file from Faria's original rom, use the one in the flashrom directory above. Hope this helps.

When I run romupdateutility.exe, it get to the progress bar than the phone turns off. I have to pull the bat restart and it works fine just not updated.

First off I want to say thanks!

The whole concept of using this thing has been smooth, simple and straight forward. I do have a few odities and questions that I wanted to share with people to see if they are having the same kinds of problems I am with WM6

Within the Builder:

1. How do I set the builder to move files to certain locations... I know how to copy them its in the PDF, but why waste the space twice over? I'd much rather install the packages manually than waste memory space or leave them in the windows folder.

Within the OS:

1. The device seems to randomly reset once a day. I do have it slightly overclocked, but even when I dont it still seems to do it
2. The battery meter does not appear to be completely unreliable. My battery used to go down about 40%/day but all day yesterday it was at 100%, then suddenly it started dropping about 1% for every 5 minutes.
3. The O/S doesnt seem to remember my today screen settings. Sometimes after a soft reset my today screen font colors dont stay. so I have to go and apply a different today theme, put the other one back, and then re apply my backaground....
4. The battery status application will no longer show the second information bar (temp, power drain, etc..) even if I deselect and reselect the options...

any thoughts on any of this stuff??

I did take the file out of the kitchen (delete)!
The file were already there!
After removal of the file and trying to run it again the app halted again, probably at the same position in the batch job.

I'll try to dl the kitchen again and process this another time.

Ok, here's the most complex package I've tried to put together so far. Anyone want to try building this into their rom and seeing if it works (I don't have time to do this tonight, but wanted to offer it up if anyone wants to try it)? This is a package for BatteryStatus 1.04.202 Beta 3 Build 0195 (latest version).

Just unzip this into your OEM folder and then go through the regular build. I left the GUID on it, so you shouldn't have to edit anything, it should just work as is and give you the option to add BatteryStatus to your rom.

Any and all feedback would be appreciated... If this works properly, I'll add it to the Package Sharing thread, but wanted to get it out for testing.

It has the reg keys built into the package, however one of them is wrong and although Adobe Reader is launched when you click a .pdf file it generates an error saying file not found. If you edit the line in the .rgu file and change the following line:

Once I deleted the battery status directory from the OEM directory I was back to normal. Bummer i really wanted to see this one work.

This worked for me after a bit of editing.....

In the .rgu file the "ThemeFile" and "DLL" entries need changing so they are double slashes:

From
"ThemeFile"="\Windows\BatteryStatus\default.xml"

To
"ThemeFile"="\\Windows\\BatteryStatus\\default.xml"

Also the 'initflashfiles.txt' has the wrong name - change 'initflashes.txt' to 'initflashfiles.txt' and save as Unicode instead of Ansi.

I also removed the two .exe's and their shortcuts as well as the .inf file and edited the 'initflashfiles.txt' to not include the removed files.

I have attached what I am currently using.

Thanks for editing this for me! I have some critical work going on today so can't flash my phone. I'll be flashing this weekend to test out some of the packages I built and then I'll add them to the share thread. But I knew some people were wanting BatteryStatus package so threw it out here untested.

In the .rgu file the "ThemeFile" and "DLL" entries need changing so they are double slashes:
Interesting. My registry dump had that but I didn't think it was right so I changed them to single backslashes.

Looks like you didn't select the HTC logo and Splash screen during the nb2nbf tool. You can create an nbf file just to flash those two items. Just go to flashrom folder and manually run the nb2nbf_wizard.exe, select only the HTC and Splash options, create the nbf then run the romupgradeutility.exe and you'll be good to go. Refer to pdf file by Funman for further details.

Hi Funman

Is there any ROM fixt with all the IR, Wifi and other problmes, so If I flash it I don't have to do any reg fix?

Thanks

The IR problem should already be fixed if you have V2 of the kitchen and replaced the option.xml file as outlined on the first page of this thread. Wifi seems to be a sporadic problem. If you don't delete the initwifi.lnk from startup and don't change anything related in the registry, it should work once you're done flashing.
If you still encounter problems, here's something I found that normally fixes it:
1. Change the following registry keys, wait a minute, then reset:
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadwifi -->0
HKLM\Comm\Tnetwln1\Parms\HTCPreloadstatus -->0
2. Change the above registry keys both to 1, wait a minute, then reset.

Your first question regarding the builder has been asked several times in this thread but never truly answered. It doesn't seem to be a straightforward task. Some ideas were to use xml to do the task.

Your remaining three questions are more related to BatteryStatus than this ROM. Your second question regarding the battery indicator is a known problem of BS. I have it myself and have no problems. Did you remember to flash to T-mo 2.26 prior to upgrading to WM6? Not doing so often causes weird glitches... If you have any further problems on BS, I would suggest posting it in Ikarus' thread.

You can edit this file, that is found in the OEM\Window Live folder,

But it is alot of work, to edit it for each and every file! But it is up to you! Take off the .txt for it to work! I have just deleted the top part as i did not need to delete anything but it will work in that way, just change the file names!!! As far as i know, (which is not much, still learning myself) there is no other way of doing it!

Something i dont think you are understanding is that by default, everything is put in the windows folder then moved by by the iniflashfiles file!!!

Another example of this is in sys\Office

I will do some tests this weekend to see if this would work!!! As far as i can see it would be easy to tell it to move example.lnk (Windows) to X (place you would like it), then delete example.lnk (Windows). If this is the case you would not have to use a iniflashfiles!!!

Update This does not work for me, so back to there we started!

I don't use these apps so I removed them. Battery Status works just fine without them, and with the need to save space......

Thanks! That makes perfect sense. I was thinking these were the actual workings of BS, but its just the DLLs that really do the work. Good catch.

For weeks working on a vanille that everybody is whining about. Then you decide to let us fight about what the best vanilla rom is ourselves, by giving us a very dangerous tool. Genius Faria. Now if Microsoft would give us some good Multi Button Support. And yes indeed we can start building our own GameBoy Advanced. I was able to run on 273 constantly on your Real Thing. I remember my device froze at 240. I'm now butting in skype just for fun, to see if i get it right. Hey, wow i got no errors! Yes it's gonna work. Now all i need to figure out is why i just don't seem to find any extracted .Reg files from most of the .cab.

And how to get the everything installed, more neatly into the windows folder.

And then bring in all my favourite tweaks into the Build.

When am i gonna sleep dammit?

Thank You Faria For letting people fight in a creative manner over what is the best vanilla.

I like mine with strawberries.

And thank you guys that gave me 30 pages of read first ask questions later.

Yes my device froze when i propably wrote the wrong codes for the splashe screen. My first cook wasn't the best no.

I had this weird idear of using the T-Mobile Update with Spl 2 again just to see if i could extract the new SPL from the german rom together with the German 2.69. So i could push them into the cook. Second cook was working fine. In the third it was also going fine. Fourth gave me no service on radio.

Now flashing 5th Version.

Oh Yes i got my T-Mobile Flashed only when i plugged in USB first then went to Bootscreen with Talk Button Camera Button After Soft Reset, while staying plugged. And it only worked with the T-Mobile Rom. Believe me i tried. I stopped the updating before it began and tried it again. I could only flash back a rom using this weird method.

The things we think of!

Still flashing 90 %

Yes i'm going to make this, one mean and lean Super Punch and Castlevania machine.

What do you guys think is making your own extended rom better than doing it this way?

Who cares about total commander if you have got everything where you want it.

Tomorow i try installing battery status.
Shit no signal.

On another note, I have used the kitchen to cook a few different roms, and sometimes after flashing, instead of getting the welcome screen and screen to calbricate the screen i just get the taskbar at the top, and the wm6 spash screen and can do nothing with the device, this forces me to rebuild / reflash - anyone else had this?

Ya, press the reset and holder the voice button, then cornect the phone to the computer, you should then get a usb at the bottom of the screen, how flash a operator rom to get you going again! Once that is on your phone, you are free to start cooking again!

Do you mean this key?

Hide/Show Screen orientation icon

If you wish to hide the Screen orientation icon, shown in the task bar on some devices, you can set:

HKLM\Services\? (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=ScreenRotate&action=create)ScreenRotate\ShowIcon = 0 (DWORD decimal)

HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\HideOrientationUI = 1 (DWORD decimal)

And to show it again:

HKLM\Services\? (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=ScreenRotate&action=create)ScreenRotate\ShowIcon = 1 (DWORD decimal)

HKLM\System\GDI\Rotation\HideOrientationUI = 0 (DWORD decimal)

If this doesn't work, you can try:

HKLM\Services\screenrotate = 0 (DWORD decimal)

And to show it again:

HKLM\Services\screenrotate = 1 (DWORD decimal)

Note that this icon and its feature may not be available on your device at all.

Or do you mean how to map it to a button?

\HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Shell\Keys\40C1\=button1
\40c2\=button2
\40c3\=button3
....etc

SqlCe

Instead of making a webservice call each time certain data was needed, the data was stored in the SqlCe database on the Pocket PC, to retrieve when needed. This allowed quickly displaying data after having retrieved it once, while still giving the possibility to retrieve the latest data, and update the local cache with it as well.

To implement this, a Db class was used with the Singleton pattern to provide database access to the local SqlCe engine. A database on the Pocket PC is simply a file on the file system, MediaService.sdf in this case.

In the CheckDb method, the database was created in case it did not exist. This was done with normal SQL queries defining Create Table commands.

- this is the caching method for the mobile phone
and it should not be left out as it functions as a speeding cache for the
phone itself.. things like music playlists and drm and filecaching are hold here

edit: java also seems to have need of this

edit :
In addition to the improved user, deployment, and support experience, having .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 and SQL Server Compact Edition installed in device ROM also provides for a better runtime environment for your application. With .NET Compact Framework 2.0 SP1 and SQL Server Compact Edition installed in device ROM, they do not occupy device RAM. Less software installed into RAM leaves more RAM space for your application to use for data storage.

Ya File export, Export to Reg, then just change the file extention to RGU, and it will work no problem. And when you do it that way, it also fomats it right for you. With the regedit4 at the top and a blank line at the bottom! Then you just have to chnage the file name to what you need.

update: Added to PDF file

am i missing something here coz i dont see any export to reg in this CabWuz
just export to .inf

I couldn't find it either. I'd just export to .inf and then grab the registy entries that are in there and convert them to the right format for the .rgu file.

Excuse me for being a dunce, but I have a quick question for Faria's rom.

I'm a very inexperienced flasher, and I just want a barebones, simple, but fully working Windows Mobile 6 rom. I'm assuming that Faria's build is just right. Unfortunantly, I'd like to stay away from the whole kitchen aspect, as - simply - I'm afraid to screw things up. So can I simply install his rom, and boom, bam presto - instant Windows Mobile 6? Because that is exactly what I'm looking for. If not, what rom do I need?

And . . . again, total dunce - where exactly do I get his file from?

The one in the kitchen is Vanilla (ie: nothing really in it but mainly a base rom). Its a good rom to start with but you may actually want something with more to it. I cooked a version of this base rom and added some programs. Its called Crossbow Reloaded. You could try that. Or another rom that has apps in it is the Windows Mobile 6 Business Edition. Also the NBD one.

There are links to all of these in the Wiki:

Ok, this is driving me crazy and makes me question some of my understanding of this ROM Kitchen now... Included with the ROM is the HTC X-Close taskmanager app (\Windows\TaskManagerApp.exe is the actual file). I've looked and looked and I can't find where this is at in the kitchen files. Anyone know? I have a newer version of this from Zoki and want to put it in my rom, but I can't find where its at so I can replace it :(.

I think the X-Button is a (commandline) function of Task Manager. Like adding an extension to a task manager shortcut. Tried to check the shortcut that is in the MMS folder but couldn't actually determine if this was it.

And while we are in the MMS folder, is there any way to separate the apps in here to separate packages? So we could pick the ones we want. I have no use for MMS but have to install it to get the rest of the apps in this folder...

As for seperating stuff in here, you'd just need to make sure you cleaned up any references to whatever you are seperating out in the .rgu and initflashfiles stuff.

This is the problem I started running into with my Crossbow Reloaded. Basically if you choose all of the options, it appears it will not cook. What it appears to me is it takes up too much memory (maxes the rom space) so it fails. IF you leave out Voice Command or other large pieces then it works fine. But if you choose everything it fails. I thought it was some bad setups I had done so I setup a fresh install of the kitchen in a seperate area and found the same issue there (so its not custom packages).

Crossbow Reloaded is pretty much a stock build of this rom (except where I changed it to the black 10 button commManager and added some apps). Only thing I left out is the Transcriber and SQLCEMobile options. I'm looking at rebuilding to get SQLCE back in, but now may have to leave out VoiceCommand and have people install that seperately.

So try out Crossbow Reloaded if you want. Or if you want to build your own, then play around with leaving out some of the larger pieces and I think you will find the rom will then build.

This is the same as mfrazzz's ROM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=305903)that you posted on your FTP here (ftp://xda:xda@minftp.myftp.org/wizard/roms/Crossbow-Reloaded.zip) only minus the packages he created...are you wanting Faria's Vanilla ROM...because that comes in the RK as mfrazzz said in post #170

The rom is in the kitchen. If you download the rom kitchen (in the first post) and extract everything, there is a directory under the main devwiz one called flashrom. Just go into that directory and flash the default rom that comes with this. You don't have to use the kitchen if you don't want to...

Can someone break the tutorial down into smaller parts? Most things just dont make sense to me, and i dont want to try anything and nearly brick my phone like I did last time.

How to create a rom package?
All the custom packages must go into the oem folder.
Create a new folder in the oem folder name it as your rom package, Open the folder and create a new text document call it “ package.rgu”
Note-.rgu files can be edited with notepad.
Save as Unicode, open the package.rgu file and add the following;
“REGEDIT4” ,make sure you leave a blank line after that entry. Now save it. Now you can add the reg keys required for you package if any. Also create a new file called initflashfiles.txt, save as Unicode, this is where you should put the shortcut entries and such if needed for the relevant package.
Use this format to add entries to initflashfiles.txt;

I've done this much.

;================================================= =========================
; START faria my app- MASD customization settings
;================================================= =========================
Directory("\Windows\StartMenu\Programs"):-File("yourshorcut-name.lnk","\Windows\yourshorcut-name.lnk")

;================================================= =========================
; END faria my app- MASD customization settings
;================================================= =========================

But what is this for?

Let say you package is total commander;
put all the files from total commander inside the package and add the required reg keys to the .rgu file and save it ,make sure there’s is always an empty line after the last reg key before saving.
Now we need to add the shortcut to programs, you can copy an existing shortcut from you device and put it inside the package, or make one.
To add the shortcut to programs we need to make an entry in the initflashes.
Create a new text file inside you package rename it to; initflashfiles.txt save it as Unicode.
Open the file and add the following entry.

The packages, do they need their own separate folders inside of my ROM folder (i.e., bens ROM)?
And how exactly do I put the files into the package, depending on if the files are from an .exe or .cab?

How to make a shortcut?
Create a new text file, open and add the following; [#"\Windows\your-app-name.exe"]
Save the file with the name of the app like this; [your-app-name.lnk]
Shortcut done!

Save the file….that’s it you created your own package!

You can delete packages you don’t want from OEM only, the custom ones.do not delete x-faria settings package.

how to restore default extended rom?
replace the current entrys in the OEMOPERATORS package .rgu wit this ones;

then copy the contents of the OEMOPERATORS package to the extended rom minus the rgu and dsm files, edit the extended rom accordingly with the new requires settings.
the config text that goes now to the extended rom has to be modified as this;

SHOW:\Extended_ROM\WallPaper.bmp
LOCK:Enabled
CAB: \Extended_ROM\my-cab.cab
XML: \Extended_ROM\my-xml.xml
LOCK:Disabled
RST: Reset

How to change the page pool?
Coming……

i will update as a can.....allot more to come.

credit AND a huge THANKS to BEPE [THE MATSERMIND] MAIMAICH AND DR.P...AND ALL THE BETA TESTERS

...and I dont think i need to mess with the ext. ROM yet, way too confusing :)

Thanks for any help.

I seem to be having a problem with file manager. For some reason now, I can't delete, cut or move any file when using File Manager. I get an error that says:

Cannot delete "filename":
Access is denied

Be certain that the file is not write-protected and is not currently in use.

This happens no matter if it's in RAM or on an SD card.

I can do all these things through total commander, but not file manager.

Also I can't seem to run active sync anymore either. I get an error message that sync can't be completed. I think the two things are releated...

Any ideas?

Have you tried hard reseting? If it is the same after doing that, you may have a problem with the rom, and i would say re flashing your Phone.

Ya i have been going and doing this, and it is not worth it!!! It is more work then you would want to do!!!

But if anyone is intrested, I found this in one of the other parts on here, You just need the dump folder of a rom and this tool should sort out most of the files fro you in to package folders.

And if you dont know how to get a rom dump from a rom file go here

Hey all,

How can I change the default Today theme? I'd like for my rom to default to a certain .tsk file that is included. I found the registry entry HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Today\Skin and set this to point to the .tsk, but after a rom flash, while I see this is set on the Today settings, the theme is still the default rom them and not this. I then have to choose another .tsk then switch back to this one to get it to change. So I'm missing something someplace else to complete the theme switch.

Wow, this worked great. I followed the instructions. (which seem to be key - haha) and cooked up a rather clean install. Everything worked on first run through.

I'm surprised at how responsive the T-mo MDA is now, without overclocking. (Overclocking to 228 makes it really snappy)

A friend gave me his never used generic T-Mo MDA yesterday and later that evening, I had unlocked and cooked it. I'll have to cook up my other MDA now as well. (Nothing beats having an extra one as a guinea pig)

FARIA-HTC WIZARD FINAL ROM WITH Pro Rom Kitchen...build the rom as you like!

Thank you very much for so fine tools explanations e.t.c.

You did Great job

I tried to use your BuildOS tool is working fine , but I did not understand some things about nb2nbf_wizard , sorry if my questions are stupid:

1 If there is no choise of my operator or other things in the upper cells marked
(max lenght=15 bytes) how can I choose it.
For example can I write operator name or operator ID?

What I should to write in the "CID" cell and for what purpose?

I tried to find answer about explanations about all cells marked
(max lenght=15 bytes) in this forum, but did find. I think there are these answers but I can't find only. Maybe you can help me?

2 How I can to know start addresses of NB files in cells placed lower?
IPL , SPL, GSM , OS and SPLASH screen I choose image name and after click on the "Start Address" cell this address launches automaticly. However I do not know ExtROM, HTC logo and CID addresses...

Can I leave empty "Image name" cells if I wrote exactly address in the "Start address cell?

3. I was succesfully installed T-Mobile 2.26 and 3.08 IPL/SPL.
I likes T-Mobile concerning T-zone , instant messaging and some features else.

But this your BuildOS tool have already integrated so good features.

I think I should to choose T-Mobile 2.26 ROM in the nb2nbf_wizard and collect all things what I need to one, but I do not know in which cell I should to choose T-Mobile 2.26 ROM as OS or as Ext ROM ?

Also I have T-Mobile 2.26 only as automatic *.exe installation file and do not have *.nbf version.
I tried to search *.nbf file in the my PC temp folder after *.exe file is unpacked, but I did not find it.
How I can extract *.nbf from this *.exe?

I would be very thankful for an answer.

First, have you read the PDF file that funman wrote for this? Its very good and may answer all your questions.

Second, here's a first swing I did at writing this into a Wiki entry. I think I covered your questions about nb2nbf in there. If not, let me know what to add to help make it clearer:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=FPRK_Cooking_Instructions

And yes, just cooking the included stuff is really just that easy... :)

Ok, I've been trying to build a ROM but the cabs I want to add extract to multiple folders (e.g. "Program Files" and "Windows"). The "Program Files" folder has multiple sub-directories. Some of the sub-directories have files with the same names but they are different files so I can't just copy them all into the root folder of my package. Any ideas on how to deal with the multiple folders and duplicate files?

Anyone having problem sync with window live? Me and one other is having problem with it says synchronization failed?

I did for the first few days and then it magically started syncing fine. I wish I could tell you that I did something but I did not. Here is what I do know though. It is not something to do with the device, but with your Live account. I flashed two t-mobile mda's the exact same way and one sync'ed with my brothers live account and mine did not for the first couple of days.
