View Full Version : FARIA-HTC WIZARD FINAL ROM WITH Pro Rom Kitchen...build the rom as you like!

Ok, I've been trying to build a ROM but the cabs I want to add extract to multiple folders (e.g. "Program Files" and "Windows"). The "Program Files" folder has multiple sub-directories. Some of the sub-directories have files with the same names but they are different files so I can't just copy them all into the root folder of my package. Any ideas on how to deal with the multiple folders and duplicate files?
If they are the same names in different folders, are they for different languages? Try installing the cab on your phone and see how it looks after it installs. a few of the ones I've worked with have multiple copies for languages or certain setups. So to build it into a rom, you are going to have to just choose a specific language or setup as you can't have duplicate files.
I basically gave up on WeatherPanel for this reason (partly) as the setup it has in the cab is fairly complex, and I found it would really limit the program trying to force it in just one direction. Easier for someone to just inastall the cab and leave it out of the ROM... I take the approach that not everything is "rom-able"... :)

The files with the same names are used for different purposes and are not language files - for example different images based on different options selected in the program.
From my limited understanding I think the initflashfiles.txt or dat needs to be updated to have statements that copy the files from the folders to their destination location.
Maybe someone can come up with a clever tool to do this or the inf file with copy instructions could be processed.

Hi, I am totally new to this, unlocked the CID on my 3G but still am sticking to 2.26 from Tmobile USA. I would love to customize a rom for me with things I need and dropping what I dont use. But I see there are several updates over these 50 Pages. Is there a new Kitchen where u don have to do all these one by one. If there is an easy way to get a custom rom with all or most of the fixes plz let me kno. I hope all the pros here dont get offended by basic questions like these.
Thanks everyone for helping.

Maybe I've forgotten, but all of the updates were put into the V2 version which is what is on the first post now. Then there is the options.xml file that you replace (also in the first or second post). Thats it. Its good to go at that point. You can then download whatever OEM Packages you want over in the Share your packages thread if you want those. But this package (in the first post) is good to go with a single options.xml fix.

Has anyone had problems with activsynce with this rom!!!
When i first flash it it is ok the after that it does pick up that it is connected for sync!!!
Does someone know if this is reg related? Cus i have tried everything! I have just hard reset and it works great!!! hmmm
And i lose my extended rom everytime aswell!
update: Ok, i just thought that i need to put this, that i have not looked at the whole yet, just want to see if if its just the rom or something different, as i have not had this problem before!!!
update2: I think ic ould be somthing to do with use check notifications v.2.3 or using check notifications (check_notify_ in the startup folder. Is anyone using these? As apart from them i dont know what it could be, testing deleting the check_notify so will see if it stop working again!
update3: Well I have not had any more problems at the mo, but i have just gone the web site and found this!!!
Note: The ClearNotify utility is designed for the original Pocket PC 2003 OS, and is not required for any other OS version. So maybe this is my problem!!! I should not be using it!!!

First, have you read the PDF file that funman wrote for this? Its very good and may answer all your questions.
Second, here's a first swing I did at writing this into a Wiki entry. I think I covered your questions about nb2nbf in there. If not, let me know what to add to help make it clearer:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=FPRK_Cooking_Instructions
And yes, just cooking the included stuff is really just that easy... :)

After cooking the ROM and following the directions my 8125 started updating and at 3% stopped and the updated popped up a communication error message. I followed the recover steps on the screen (unplugging, battery removal, etc) and restarted the updated and now get a message that this version of the updater can't be used and that I should get a newer version. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like you are not CID Unlocked. If you haven't done those steps then you need to do that before you can upgrade to any custom rom.

2nd the PDF is in the download package and is linked in the first post!!! Sorry if this sounds bad, but things like this is just waste our time and taking up space!!! As i have just gone from page 1 to here and i can see that the address are said about 5-7 times!!!! What should I say!
Sorry I am just fedup with poeple just dont read!!! Please everyone, PLEASE READ ALOT of work has gone in to the ROM by Faria, a couple of people have help along the way. Please show them that it was not in vain, that all this is falling on closed ears!!!
This is at 13 pages now!!! and like i said i found the address said 5-7 times, how much information is said over and over again? The whole point of this place is to share information, so can we all work together to keep it clean.!!!

Is there a way to update the Com manager without having to do a ROM install. I'm looking for the Com Manager that has the flight control button. Would be nice to have that without having to always try and click the tiny link from the network popup message.

Sorry mate but there is no way, as when you cook a rom all the files you put in get a read only status. So you cant over ride it! The only way is putting the new one in a different place and changing the reg keys to the new location and soft reset the phone!

Actually thats not completely accurate. Yes, the files are there in the rom and can't be removed, but you can put new versions of the files on top of them (Windows Mobile will use the one in regular Storage intead of the ones in the rom). If you delete the ones in regular storage, then you are back to the ones in the rom (and you can't get rid of those, which sometimes can cause conflicts).
As ariebart said, just install the 10 button CommManager cab and you will be fine. Or you can just do the registry entry change if you don't need the black theme one.

Cool. thanks. Also has anyone also been having trouble sending MMS from their 8125? I have gone through Cingular and setup the phone exactly has they say. I've been on the phone with them for lik 4 hours and they couldn't solve it. I've tried going back to the original cingular rom and that still didn't work. Am I missing something? The message just try's to send and then says it will try again later and eventually fails. I don't know what else to do or why it's not sending. Everything is perfect. Suggestions anyone?

Doesn't V2 support the "Flight" control? At least mine seems to work... My phone, bt and wifi buttons would become disabled when I hit the Flight button.
All I did was edit the registry...

V2??? What is V2. I just installed this custom faria Wm6 Rom but I don't have a 10 button com manager. Is there a new Rom out, and where?
Also Does anyone know if there is a better MMS Composer out in the market rather than Acrosoft? The MMS that comes on the 8125 is crap and there has got to be another one. Anyone know of any and where to get it?

If you have downloaded the link fro the first post, you should have the 10 button by default.

OK I finally got the 10 Comm manager to work. It didn't show by default at first so I had to edit the whole comm manager registry and now i have the flight button.
Also has anyone noticed that when you modify what is show on the today screen that it doesn't refresh the show the changes and that a soft reset has to be done for the changes to take affect. Like if you want to remove the Windows live search bar from the today screen and you click ok and go back to the today the search bar is still there. Like it doesn't refresh. Only after a soft reset do the changes then show.

Sounds to me like you have a third party ap causing the issue with the Today screen. I haven't had issues like that, and Crossbow Reloaded is built off of this. If you are running X-Button 1.5 there are issues like this with updating the Today screen
Ebrecht

Ya I kinda figured it had to have been a third party app so I checked them one by one and it was X-Button 1.5. So i just uninstalled it and kept the default v1.0

Hello all,
After cooking and installing my " Faria ROM " accordingly with the procedures in first post everything went ok.
EXCEPT the "Battery Meter" and/or USB charging. I'll explain:
Handheld "thinks" that its USB conneted, meaning that the "charging icon" is always present even when I plug out the usb cable.
In Start > Settings > System tab > Power
Main batery: Unknown
Batery power remaining bar: no info / white
I have A G4 Prophet
Please note: I've been browsing in wiki and forum, made some searches, couldnt find anyone with this issue.
Any ideas?

Hi Luis. You are in the wrong thread. This one is for the WIZARD, and so it is the FARIA ROM found in the first posts. So DO NOT install any ROM that hasn´t been designed for your device because you can BRICK it. Check this one out : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308266 .Regards

Check out the Wiki entry I've started for this kitchen, it has the addresses and pretty much step by step instructions for basic running of the kitchen (I haven't had time to do more detail yet, too busy with work, home, and Crossbow Reloaded)...

Yes, the Faria rom in this kitchen is REALLY good and stable. I give all credit to Faria for overall how stable my cooked rom is due to the fantastic base its built of of...
BTW: I highly recommend taking this rom from this kitchen and using the tools in the rompacker kitchen. I haven't figured out how much it saved for sure, but I know I'm gettng close to 2MB more stuff into my rom now, purely with those tools. You have to do a little more than just move this rom over and I can provide instructions if others are interested. But I use that method now.

Need i say more!!! It is not hard.
It really bugs me when people ask the same thing and then some one comes along ans say

The actual AKU of this ROM is non-existent. This ROM release is Dogfood which is M$ codespeak for a ROM that is on a device which was not designed for it. It is an original WWE ROM no doubt, but the AKU number is found in the x-faria settings package in the kitchen and not in the core of the ROM. AKU's (Adaptation kit upgrades) are only found on official manufacturer ROM's.
As for the 2.18.0.0, that is only changed by hex editing the nk.nbf or the os.nb. My guess is that the ROM may have come with that number from the device mfr.

hey folks!
1) sms problem, it only occurs when my sms is gonna be more than 2 seperated sms, after I have exceeded 1 sms it is stated (2 messages), now the issue: after I have exceeded 2 sms it is shown (5 messages) ??? that wouldnt be a problem, but sms drafted like this never reach the addressee!
2) i am using the RK version of Faria's WM6, but nevertheless i have switched the regional settings to German, but dates e.g. in the file explorer etc. are still in the wrong format 5.31.07 instead of 31.5.07
3) I have been trying to install an individual keyboard layout for a couple of hours. Well, I read that the msim.96.dll.0409.mui has to be replaced but there is not such a file (yes, i can see even all hidden files etc.) - therefore I simply copied the file in the directory but assumingly nothing has changed anything. The only files i've got are msim.96.dll and msim.dll - and of course they are in the ROM, means no overwriting or deleting possible. Probably I gotta add anything to the registry to refer the keyboard to the new file msim.96.dll.0409.mui
Maybe (2) and (3) are linked?
Thanks a lot in advance!

Is it worth the hassle of upgrading again?

The rom in this kitchen is a Vanilla version of "the real thing" rom that he released before this. The plus of this rom is that it has fixes in it that were found in "the real thing", and with it in an easy to use kitchen you can "roll your own" pretty easily.
So overall, they are the same base. "the real thing" is loaded with apps already, but has some bugs (if you are running it and have those tweaked out, then I don't know if there is that much difference to this "fixed" version).

Hey guys has anybody noticed this? In the OEMDrivers folder if you look at the rgu you'll find this entry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Drivers\BuiltIn\Camera
under that entry you'll find a key called "SensorType" which has a value of "0" right next to the key there's an explanation "0 indicate no camera, 1 indicate 1.3MPixel sensor, 2 indicate 2MPixel sensor" so I said well the wizard has a 1.3mp camera so let me change it; personally I haven't really used the camera much, but I remember the pictures were really bad no matter the lighting or whatever. After changing that, however, I notice my pictures are coming out fairly better which is a good thing. Now don't me wrong it's not a world of difference, but there is definitely some improvement.
I was thinking of trying out the wing's camera driver and changing that option to see if it will work on the wizard, if I get around to it I'll let everyone now how I fared.

also when i go into memory settings it always has bluetooth selected even if i check the card and it sees it but if i exit and then go back it again shows bluetooth (may not be a problem, i just thought it was weird)
i am sure it was not like that on wm5 tho
so is there a way to save m pics to the storage card by default ?

You've played with (and turned on) the Bluetooth Explorer. The Camera app can't handle that there is more than one option for places to store the files (it assumes only Storage Card would be available so Bluetooth shows up since its first and not your Storage Card). You need to turn off BT Explorer (done through the comm manager) and then you can choose Storage Card. After you choose it, you can turn the BT Explorer back on if you want. There are a few other apps that have this problem too (don't remember which though)

Thanks again Faria,
Downloaded the kitchen, unzipped it to root. Was able to follow the directions ok. For those of you who try it, the package pretty much forces you all the way through to flash, so be ready! If you get confused about the flash screen and logo screen part you don't have to do that (I couldn't find the tutorial mentioned in the directions.), just do the os part. Tick in the box, browse to the file. Then go to the drop down on the right and select OS again. Then click in the file start address field and it will fill itself in for you. Then hit the Translate button, and away you go!
I just left everything on its defaults in terms of picking packages. The result is a nice plain jane vanilla WM6 rom, ready for loading with your favorite programs. I got 43 meg free storage memory, and 27 meg free program memory. There are none of the cool Faria stuff preinstalled except x-button, task manager, bluetooth explorer, adobe reader, pim backup, voice command.
I haven't had a chance to check everything out. But likely everything will be fine.
Question for Faria: How much "slack" is left in ROM for our own packages in the default setup?
Thanks again for all you've done Faria, I look forward to tinkering with this, until the next version of "Real Thing" comes!
Regards,
Hi, I did the same as mentioned above...all default...Installed Successfully...msg shown...but device do not start...just hang on after first scree and a white screen is displayed...what i need to do...i am worried ...is it recoverable...i can enter boot loader mode...
Thanks

Wow, great find!!. Im gonna change mine and see if there is a difference in the pics I take.

I installed the kitchen. Updated the options.xml. Then I installed the mum keyboard in the oem directory. And changed the CID in the options.xml in the mum keyboard directory.
Then I build the ROM. Still in the there is some confusion how to fill in the nb2nbf utility. In the pdf is stated fill in what you like to be included in your rom. What should be included? OS, Extension ROM, IPL etc etc..
If you check them all the translate process complains that you have to fill in the filename. What is the file name for the GSM part or the CID or .....
In the pdf file is only mentioned to use flash.nb0 for OS. What for Extention Rom etc..
Once I have the ROM I start flashing. After between 3 and 17% I get an communication error.
Then I have to reboot the PC and I am able to flash an original t-mobile rom.
Please help!

The other options or there if you want to add other *.nb files such as GSM, splash screens etc. (which are outside the scope of this thread). For the time being, all you need to do is select the OS option and leave all the others unchecked.
Also, if you haven't already, please read the Wizard flashing tutorial that's stickied in this subforum.

Thank you so much FARIA for your great posts and releases. I'm using your Kitchen, and I have nothing but all the good to say.
Though, i have a few questions. I understand that making the Rom by using the CreateROM.bat file makes it so much easier. But, I would like to know what exactly hapens when we execute CreateROM.bat.
why do we have many seprate folders like SYS, ROM, flashrom, Tools?
i know that we can use the OEM folder for adding packages.
i also know that the Tools folder has all the programs ndded to make the rom.
What is the SYS folder? what does it do?
What is the ROM folder? what does it do? Can we change the file Flash.nbo? if we can, how is the final ROM affected?
Thanks again for all your support.

I unlocked my G3 8125 yesterday and used this utility to make a WM6 ROM for it. I successfully flashed it to my phone and it does boot and function, but now I have a few issues:
1) Contacts doesn't open.
2) I can't get it to sync with anything. I've tried my vista ultimate machine, my winxp machine with activesync 4.5 (stuck in guest mode), and the alpha 3 version of the missing sync for windows mobile on my mac.
3) I can't flash it again. every time I try it either can't see the device, can't write to it, or says the version of the flash utility is too low.
Any ideas?

Turn ON and OFF IR Beam button without reflashing it
I have V2 with the new option.zip but I can't turn IR Beam ON, so I used Donkey IR.cab
After running Donkey IR I can turn IR beam ON but can't turn it off.
I found that at this moment, the only way to turn IR off is turning WiFi ON, wait for some secs (about 5 secs), turn WiFi OFF and immediatly press IR button; if you do this the IR Beam button will go OFF.

Your cell phone provider should have links to your official rom. IF you are CID unlocked (sorry, haven't been following this) then you can flash any official rom (like the Tmobile 2.26) or even the Wizard Love rom. There are links for these in the Sticky at the top of this forum on how to flash a rom.

Dude, you should not be flashing custom roms if you want something simple and just a single push of a button and it magically works again. You should NEVER flash a rom until you understand what you are doing becuase you can get in a situation like you are in now, and then you have no clue what to do (which obviously you don't).
So, what you still haven't said is if you have a G3 or G4 and whether your phone is CID Unlocked or not. Hard to help you without that information. Also, what is your IPL/SPL?
Please read and follow this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=298613
It will step you through the process. If you don't know what your official rom is, then try the Wizard Love rom.

So it's a G3 i think?

25th July 2007, 10:54 PM
To my knowledge there has never been a 1.72 or 2.72 for the Wizard. You need to give us exactly what your phone says, not guesses or instructions given to you could likely brick your device (ie: it will be an expensive paperweight that won't take calls or do anything else since it won't turn back on).
I will not GUESS if its a G3 or G4. You need to know...
Follow the thread I gave you. It will help. It has all of the steps and has the links to download the various roms needed to recover your device.

2.) the usb modem over activesync works great (never could get it to run under 5.0) but is there a way to use wifi, if its available instead of gprs?
3.) i am trying to find a panorama software for the the camera like the 8525 has, i think it is htc camera 3.3 and i see you have it bundled in the new version i found your files but I dont know where to and what to put into the registry

This is a great RK and I'm having a ton of fun tweaking it. One problem has me stuck though. Its not a real big deal but I'm obsessing over it enough I thought I'd try this post. I was hoping to change the default locale from English UK (dword 809) to English US (409). I've tried forcing the registry to use locale 409 in a .rgu in HKLM\Securit\ColdInit\Locale but it appears that gets overwritten on boot by coldinit.exe. Also tried HKLM\nls\DefaultLCID to 409, but it doesn't stick. Anybody know how to fix this without manually changing it after install?
Also another problem is the default timezone. On install it defaults to Indiana (GMT-5). Anyone know how to change this in the registry prior to install? When I set this manually I get registry changes in HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Clock\GMT_OFFSET and \AppInfo as well as HKLM\System\State\DateTime\Time, but when I put these edits in a .rgu dont' make the appropriate change after ROM build.
Again, these are minor issues, but they're bugging me--Thanks in advance!

I'm about to boldly go where no noob has gone or should probably go. I am about to atempt to build my own rom using(hopefully)the touch/cube ROM basics. refer to thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=1447867#post1447867 . I got some experience in program design during my courses but i'm mostly an IT and networking guy.

Hi all,
I've been messing with this RK for a while now and today realised that one of my programs wasn't the right version vs the version details Faria posted in the third or fourth post...
So I checked all the progs for version against Faria's details and I found this:
Build aku 15341 aku.4.0.0.01 WWE (mine is aku.4.0.01)
SIM card manager v 5.30 (mine is 5.22)
latest adobe reader LE (I can't find it anywhere, at least a shortcut)
Camera 3.3 (mine is 3.0 build 25498)
MMS arc-soft 3.5.1.22c (mine is 3.5.1.17)
Java v11.1.7.1023 (can't find it also)
Before I posted here I re-downloaded the RK from the first link http://rapidshare.com/files/27366246/DEV_WIZcrossbow_CLEAN-V2.rar and reflashed one of my wizards to check if I really had the V2 RK.
Is there any new version that I didn't see in these 615 posts or were these apps downgraded for compatilibity issues?
Either way, I'm having lots of fun building my own packages (except for moving files to other folders (just can't get it)). My wizard has been already flashed like 10 times since I got my hands on this RK.
Awsome work done with this by Faria and great line of support funman and mfrazzz (among others) are to this community!
Regards to all.

OK I finally got the 10 Comm manager to work. It didn't show by default at first so I had to edit the whole comm manager registry and now i have the flight button.
Can you write down your registry edits?
I think that anybody find a fix should post the solution...
Thank you very much

In addition to them being in the picture of Funman's pdf, I have them listed in the Wiki:

Hi.
I'm trying to put some stuff as PCMKeyboard, SPB MobileShell and SPBPhoneSuite in the OEM Package and I followed every steps of this guides using also CabWuz (i read, read, read and read [every line of this thread and all the guides posted in this thread... :) ]), but I wasn't able to execute successfully BuildOS.exe.
Can u help me, please?
I've got essentially 2 problems:
1) For all my programs, CabWuz doesn't extract registry entries (but i think that software like phoneSuite should have some registry entry, of course), so I don't know how to fill the .rgu file
2) An example (easier than explain it): the extraction of phoneSuite creates the dir Windows with some files inside it...I don't have the [InstallDir] dir. Evene if I ignore this and I create the file .rgu and .dsm as described in the guide, the BuildOS fails with the error "Could not find file 'C:\DEV_WIZcrossbow CLEAN-V2\temp\dump\Windows\imageinfo.bin" processing "OEM\Spb phone suite".
I like this "base" ROM very much but I'd like to add simply a few stuff as
- Asukal Voice Dialer
- Spb Mobile Shell
- Spb Phone Suite
- PCMKeyboard
- PocketAlarm
if they'll not fill my ROM space... :)
Thank you very much for your help.

Hello Faria.
I have tried to install your ROM (Faria-HTC wizard) and everything seemed to work properly during the installation process. However, when everything was installed and it was the turn for the device to prompt me to align the screen it did not. When I reach the Today screen (it took a while) some items were blinking. As I could not use the stylus (the screen did not understand the orders) I tried to open the windows menu from the keyboard. Only the Today item was in the menu. ActiveSync conection was not operative, so that I could not reload the ROM. Soft reset, hard reset and bootloader did not reverse the situation. Although the phone works for calling and receiving calls (without rings), everyting else is not working. Could you give me some hint about what to do?. Thanks in advance

Hi, I have been using the Faria rom for about 2 weeks now, and I absolutely love it!! I'd like to thank everyone who worked on it for a great product!
I only have one problem. I dont know if it has been addressed in the other 63 pages of this thread, but every time I press the end call button, it kills my data connection. This is extremely annoying.
Is there a fix for this?
Thanks!!
EDIT: Nevermind, found it by searching the thread. Here is the solution reposted for anyone having the same trouble:
Re: Hangup button terminates GPRS/Edge:
Solved by setting AlwaysOn bit for the connection to 1:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 8-5FF7-4bc1-80F6-5DA7870BB1AA}\Connections\YOUR CONNECTION NAME HERE]

Ok, on more question. When my phone sits for a while, it seems like it gets stuck where it wont turn on again. The green light is still flashing, so I assume its still connected to the cell network, but no matter what I do with the power button or other buttons, I cant get the screen to light up. The phone also makes no noises.
I have to reboot it to get it to work again.

Erm... Just flashed my G4 Wizard and all went fine except upon rebooting the device I can't do anything. The OS loads, screen rotated when opened, etc but touch screen and buttons don't do anything as if it has crashed.
Secondly I have no radio version come up on the initial screen. I'm sure I've done something wrong, although seemingly minor as it is not what I'd consider anywhere near bricked.
EDIT: I can get in the bootloader, I guess I'll just flash the original ROM back...
EDIT 2: Anyone know what ROM I can get other than this one which is just a basic WM6 rom (don't need the kitchen as I'll install applications afterwards)?

Try newbie1221's roms. I've found them to be great. The latest is at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=386668 and you can see links to his older ones in there. I can highliy recommend the 3.0 Lite version if you don't want too many add ons.

Not sure But, this is the right thread if your using TNT's kitchen?
Anyhoo,
Check for double Same Named DSM files to start and recheck if the DSM numbers correspond correctly in each and every Oem package option.xml file.
Do the regular Excluding of Packages to find the double ones.
(taker out half, then again etc, max 5 steps if done correctly;)
But post to a thread that corresponds with your kitchen please.
Or join my Cooking Class ;)
