All,

I understand that the Herald does not support TomTom Nav 6. In your expert opinion, will the application ever run on the Herald, given the lower processor clock speed on this device?

How about other navigation software?

I'm seriously considering buying a Herald, but some time in the next 12 months, would really like GPS with Navigation software as well.

Many thanks to all who reply.

James.

Not regarding TomTom but "Other Navigator Apps":

My experience with Navigon MN6 (6.15) was reaaally bad. It was so slow that you could not use it.

Screen refresh rate was about 1 fps, although voice commands were almost in time. I had a few other apps installed, but not many (phoneAlarm, SPB Mobile Shell, Pocket Informant 7).

Can anyone confirm if MN6 is generally so slow on the P4350? My ROM version is 5.4.407.1 GER, which I think is one of the latest (apart from WM6).

iGo Myway 2006 works fine, no problems at all.

MN6 is a heavy application. Other apps as spb mobile shell en pocket informant are to. Used them and uninstalled them. The herald is a 200mhz thingie ;-) TomTom Nav 6 is ok. Overclocked to 247mhz and everything works fine. Apart from the "I start myself actions from TomTom" ;-)

Yes, MN6 is quite heavy as all the previous versions of Navigon have been.

But I can't see how PI7 or Mobile Shell can make it slower, when they are not running. As long as they are not running they should not consume any CPU time, right? And memory was not the issue with MN6, I checked available mem before starting MN6 and it was well over 25 MB free (data+program store), which should be sufficient - at least it was on my MDA Pro.

But for me that was the only disappointing experience with the Herald so far.

I just compared MN5 and TomTom6 with my P4350.
I liked the highly detailed Maps of MN5 better than TomToms BUT TomTom has the better features:

MN5 does not turn on bluetooth for GPS automaticaly.
Very annonyingly, MN5 does not disable hibernate and sleepmodes of WindowsMobile automaticaly. The usage of the PDA-Pen ist mandatory to mess with MN5. Menues and UI-Layout is a whole lot better in TomTom. TomTom reacts faster to userinput and needs less resources.

The only negative thing about TomTom are the voice commands of the german version. They are confusing most of the time. Sometimes you need to retranslate and interpret them. The voicecommands of MN5 are vastly clearer and more accurate.

In my view, iGO Myway 2006 plus is currently the best compromise between Navigon and Tomtom.

High performance, very good usability, even more features than Tomtom, quality of the voice commands is almost on the standard of MN.

Also highly recommendable is Medion GoPal 2.x AE/PE. Not quite as nice graphics, but with the text-to-speech engine voice commands are even more precise than Navigon without TTS.

I have run TT6 on my Herald without any issues at all, the device is overclocked to 240MHz but other than that no mods are required.

Cheers

I have tomtom but i having issues with answer calls which i am unable to do so.
after running some tests on this it seems that when receiving a call and using tomtom u can't answer it because the application for some reason doesn't give control to the phone app. You have press the start menu key and then u can answer the call or hang up. nothing to do with the ram its more so that tomtom needs to update there application for WM6
