Heya,

I've been trying to ask some one in T-mobile tech support about why usb hosting doesnt seem to work with my Ameo ( i bought the 4 in 1 cable from expansys ) and after getting a few i dunno's they passed it up the chain to their tech support.

The voice mail i got from them went like, oh so i hear you want to plug your usb flash drive into your phone, well usb needs to have a master and slave device and computers are usb masters and flash drives are slave devices, and well so is your phone so you cant plug them in together, and even if you did well a phone cant have all the drivers needed for all those different usb drives, so no it cant do it.

I rang back to query that, and they wouldnt put me through. Seeing I'm a fellow t-mobile staff member and all, i thought it wasn't a very good effort.

Has any one else had any issues with T-mobile and their understanding of the Ameo?

edit... (toned down my rant)

*end rant* on the flip side of it iv'e had amamazingly good help from technical support regarding other issues with Vario's etc. i just found it a little strange some one wasn't as awear of the capabilities of the device as i wuld have hoped.

Hi,

I have the HTC 4 in 1 cable for the T-Mobile Ameo (HTC Advantage 7500) and the ability to access a USB thumbdrive or stick appears to depend on the device.

The following devices worked without a hitch:
- Kingston DataTraveler 1GB
- Q motion 1 GB
- SanDisk MobileMate SD+ (This a SD card reader in a USB stick format, very handy to coy data from a SD/miniSD/microSD card to your 7500 without going through Activesync)

Another noname USB stick that I have did not work.

So the trick is to find a low powered USB stick.

The response from T-Mobile is the typical CYA (cover your ...) answer of let's first say that it's not possible so that we don't have to be bothered with researching what is possible.

Cheers,
Tim

I bought the Sandisk SD+ and tried to connect to the 4-1 cable USB port... I could not find my inserted SD card anywhere in the X7500. How and where can you see your files on the SD card??? Please help!

Are you running WM6?

You cannot blame T-Mobile for this: The 4-in-1 is an optional extra which has no bearing on the out-of-box functionality of the device.

T-Mobile neither PRODUCE NOR SELL the 4-in-1 cable. For this reason you cannot expect them to help you with it unless you're lucky enough to get someone on the line at C.S. who has one. Sure they sell the device, but they only need to know enough to get over customer connection and software issues.

It's a bit like me ringing Dell and asking them to help me with my computer desk.

Try Expansys or HTC themselves, you'll get nowhere with your network provider.

Agree with leoni's argument, unless you bought the 4 in 1 cable from T-mobile, they should not be made to support it.

Personally I have found T-Mobile UK's suport for the Ameo to be total pants... remember it was no more than a month or two ago that they said (and i copied their email to me onto this forum) that there will be 'NO WM6 UPDATE FOR THE AMEO AS IT WORKS PERFECTLY WELL WITH WM5' - then they change their mind (or simply didnt realise it was coming out).

If as a company you are going to stock a convergence device (let's face it the Ameo is certainly no phone - it's a very good PDA that happens to have phone functionality!) they should be able to suport all it's features - especially if the support needed involves an OFFICIAL accessory manufactured by the maker of the device! At the very least they should be able to point you in the right direction for support, plus they shoudl never LIE which is basically what they did above - the device DOES suport host usb - and they just said 'a PC can but a phone can't' - what bull that is! It clearly shows they do not know what they are talking about and should not be on second line support!

Especially since HTC will not support a T-Mobile branded device. They just tell you to go to.... T-Mobile, as it's an Ameo, not an Athena!

This is ridiculous. If you have any experience of customer services you will realise that it is hit and miss. There is no customer services department in the world that's perfect: they all have trainees and incompetent staff lurking somewhere. This problem is not exclusive to T-Mobile, but in this situation I wouldn't have expected ANYONE to have the information you sought.

The 4-in-1 cable is an accessory. It might well be official but it is NOT SUPPLIED WITH THE PHONE, nor sold by T-Mobile. Even the best company in the world does not have every detail about everything that can be bought for every product they sell.

Your arguments are absurd and make you seem like the sort of person who just likes to moan about corporations, despite that fact that you are in the full knowledge of where to find help and information about a product.

I bought the 4-in-1 myself from Expansys, had I had any problems with it my first port of call would have been google or HERE followed by Expansys - I really can't understand what possessed you to try and glean information from your network supplier about an accessory you hadn't even bought from them.

And then posted a thread moaning about them.
