Signal Strength

I was using my XDA2 with a Quinn professional car kit. It was working fine. However, a few days ago it developed two problems:
1) while in the car kit's craddle the battery instead of charging it was draining rapidly. The charging light was on. The phone charges ok with an external supply.
2)Signal strength now is basically non-existent. In some locations it shows full signal but as soon as a phone call is attempted it just drops out altogether.

I have had exactly the same problem with my xda11 running windows mobile 5. It's only ever seemed to trickle charge in the quinn car kit but after leaving it in it for a few hours on a long journey it now has the same signal problem in AND out of the car kit. Took it apart, cleaned & checked all antenna connections with no joy. strange.
