Phonecall Audio Quality

Anyone notice a difference in audio quality while upgrading and downgrading between ROMS and Radios? I could swear that on Black 2.0 with a 1.4x.xx radio I had better audio quality in calls than I do now with Black 2.5 with a 1.38.x.x radio. I'm on Cingular / ATT in the U.S.

The audio codec used in the phone is most like GSM-AMR. GSM-AMR has several bit-rates -- anyone know if the bit-rates are tied to radio ROM or to Phone ROM?

Not sure about the actual quality of the audio, but it feels like radio 1.4x / Black 2.5 may have a lower volume setting - or at least the StartCall volume, than the earlier releases.
