Installing Japanese Rom

Dear all.

Just have a question would like to have your assistance. My friend has a unlocked x01ht with Chinese rom on it. But he wants to flash a japanese rom. What I'm thinking is to download the softbank rom from wiki, just extract the os portion, and flash to his machine, without altering the booloader, splash screen, and radio. Would that lock the phone again? He concern about the 3g video call, and internet, gprs setting. Would that affect by flashing the japanese os?
