I remember when the PSP first came out there was talk about how many times you could flash it before it would kill the ROM you were writing to. Off the top of my head the answer was 80 odd.

This then leads to the next question, how many flashes will a Hermes survive through?

I know the answer way be a simple case of it's a different form of memory so will last much longer, but still a question worth asking with many of us flashing multiple times (sometimes in one day).

So is there an answer? OR has no-one managed to flash their unit to death ??

From the Samsung NAND datasheet:

Even the write-intensive systems can take advantage of FLASH extended reliability of 100K program/erase cycles with real time mapping-out algorithm. These algorithms have been implemented in many mass storage applications.

So until you flash it 100000 times, you are safe :P

At the speed that these guys are spitting out rom updates around here, just about every other day is accurate.

G-D help us all!
