View Full Version : AT&T (Cingular) ROM Officially released!

I noticed tonight HTC changed the carrier name to AT&T, so I figured hmmm... And there it is, the official release!
HTC's download page (http://www.htcamerica.net/support/8525/software-downloads.html)
It appears to be the same as previously posted from the Device Info screenshot, but the file name is slightly different. File size is a little smaller too.

I might have gotten excited a month ago.
But now, I couldn't care less.
(About the release that is, not this thread :D )

I certainly hope that they've fixed the bugs that were present in the 2.15 that shogun posted here earlier. I flashed that one on my phone, and it was very slow, and very buggy (taps taking seconds to register, applications not opening). And that damn startup sound was extremely annoying. The smaller file size suggests to me that maybe the ROM that shogun posted was a debug ROM, and this is the release one. (Just a guess, anyway.)
As for why people might want it, well, I'd be interested in it if it's relatively bug-free. I've tried the WM6 ROMs, and ended up flashing back to the Cingular 1.34 ROM (and applying CABs to customize it). The Cingular ROM has a look that I like (I like blue), and it's official, which means that even if they won't help you out, they at least won't look at you funny for running it.
(Time to update my sig, as I'm running Cingy 1.34 with SPL-2.10-Oli and radio 1.41.)

One would think that HTC would be screaming this from the tops of rooftops, but I see no such declaration...
Is this new ROM Windows Mobile 6 or is it Windows Mobile 5? I suspect 5, but I can hope.
I'm running Black 2.5 and couldn't be happier. See no sign of the strange bluetooth problems others have been reporting. Stereo Bluetooth is not perfect, but it isn't bad (the brain is a very wonderful thing at getting used to substandard sound, like when I used to listen to cassettes for a while and then listen to CD's ... I thought the cassettes sounded fine until I spun up that disk).
It would be nice to get on the straight and narrow again, just in case there is a real Cingular problem that they need to troubleshoot.
I would be a pain to downgrade the phone just to take it to them, then have to upgrade again later.

They pulled it from HTC, I only see the old ROM on HTC America.

Thanks.

It's there, but the link points to a different file name.
Last night I downloaded 2.15.502.1 but the link today says 2.15.502.3. Maybe they're changing it?
Ok, now the link works. Downloading 2.15.502.3, file size is even smaller than the 502.1 from last night.

There seems to be a difference in the size of the download from these two sites. The .com one is 56.xxMB, and the .net one is 51.9 MB. Any thoughts? Perhaps people could post which one they load onto their machine.

Oite, i just flashed mine. It's got ROM version 2.15.502.3 and radio 1.40.30.00 as listed in my settings. It also has a VERY annoying startup animation complete with jet engine sounds... don't soft reset your phone in a quiet environment with this ROM... I have no clue on the changes. I just flashed blindly because I am nothing more than a NOOB looking for a reason to change my phone ; )

the older radio ver. likt the one you where using never showed G-gprs or E-edge changes in coverage area. thats why u have the E now not sure about the bouncing from 1 to 0 bars... you might want to flash with the 1.41 thats floating around see if that makes a diff. i am running 1.40 now and it seems ok gonna run it for a few days then switch to 1.41 and see if there is a diff. unless someone beats me to it ;)

I have flashed previous versions(beta?) and on 1.41 Radio, which seems to be very good for my case, even though signal bars show as either 0 or 1; but in call quality is very good compared to previous radio's.
Can anyone who has 1.41 Radio and this official ROM tell about their experiences?

The first attempt to install the upgrade app onto a 8525 Demo device (not gonna try this first on my personal 8525) failed via USB so I decided to see if I can update it via the storage card and the BootLoader.
First, I downloaded the file LMaxwell posted: http://www.htcamerica.net/support/docs/RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00 _108_Ship.exe
Then I cleaned out my temporary files directory on my PC. I ran the EXE that downloaded and it put my 8525 device into bootloader mode and then executed another EXE file to perform the actual upgrade.
At this point, browse the subdirectories in your temp folder looking for the following file: RUU_signed.nbh
Copy this file to another location on your computer and then cancel the update process and reset your 8525 device.
Rename the RUU_signed.nbh file to HERMIMG.nbh and copy it onto your storage card (will take awhile). You do not need to purge/format your SD card.
Shut down the 8525 device. While holding down the OK and Comm Manager buttons, power on the device. You should see the screen display "Checking" and after a few moments, the following:
HERMIMG.nbh -
IPL -
BOOTLOADER -
SPLASH1 -
SPLASH2 -
EXTROM -
GSM -
OS -
Press power button
to start update image
The process took 24 minutes from pressing the power button to start the flash until it displayed that the upgrade was complete. It seems to hang when it gets to "GSM" so be patient. It took 10 minutes before I saw the status bar move on the GSM install and around 20 minutes before the GSM flash was complete.
Once the upgrade is complete, press the reset button with your stylus.

My upgrade took 10 minutes (probably less actually) and went off without a hitch. My 8500 is a vanilla phone. Haven't had any other ROMS on it. To install this one, i just double clicked the .exe file and away I went.
There is a LOT more crap on this one though. I had the stock one before. now I have probably 6 new icons in my programs and settings folders. Some are cool (such as HTC X-button), some are useless (such as cellular video, I'll never use it). overall the phone has taken a hit in speed. Its probably 10-15% slower than it was pre-flash AND my signal seems worse (based on bars)... haven't tried using the phone, but kept getting disconnected trying to sync express mail. We'll see after work how the reception REALLY is. I'm not holding my breath though. overall I'd say I'm less than enthused about switching... perhaps this will be the kicker for getting me to install a cooked ROM... we'll see...

You could just open the .exe with winzip or winrar, extract RUU_Inside.exe, open that with winzip or winrar and extract RUU_Signed.nbh

Tried that first, renaming to a .zip file and letting XP try to open it. It failed. So I went with the method I described.

Turn off hard coded proxy into IE
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings]
The default setting (that uses the proxy) is:
"EnableAutoDetect"=dword:00000000
Change it to:
"EnableAutoDetect"=dword:00000001
Or simply delete it. It's more of the fact that if it's there and =0 it's used. if it's missing it's not used. But changing it to =1 will also make it disable. This way you can simply change the value back without re-adding the seting back in.
For some reason, the registry entry above will occasionally revert from =1 to =0, causing IE's proxy to be active again. Deleting the registry entry prevents this from happening.

some feedback after use this rom for about 12 hours
- I downloaded .3 from .net ( .com I downloaded .1 very slow)
- Flash 2.15....3 took me 10 minutes only compare to 25 minutes for Rom version 1.34
- To disable annoy startup pls read wiki as shogunmark mention
(link http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry)
sorry for repost here if someone lazy to read
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation
Enabled - change from 1 to 0 to turn everything off and permanently fix the volume issue
- disable proxy now you dont need hack registry that will come back to the default value, the program was built into ROM
go to program-> Proxy Manager->Disable Proxy (Bravo AT&T for this software they might read from our forum)
- I dont have any problem with the speed ( as X-button close all program so open it will take little more time but it will save you more power, you have your choice to disable X-Button as well)
So far Radio 1.40 didnt drop any call from me yet, I made like 7 calls so far each 15-30 min. Wireless work fine, didnt
test other function yet.
*Theme At& T has problem in this ROM
Change theme to Guava Bubbles and apply it.
Then change it back to AT&T Theme Red bar persist even after soft reset or power down and up.
(this is small buggy I think)
So far I am happy with new ROM.
I am waiting for others feedback about new Rom as well.

Thanks for the info on removing the boot sound, Shigeo. Shogunmark, I understand about reading the Wiki, but you didn't have to bash me like that. I read this board several times a month, and it can take hours to find something, even in the Wiki. I figured since the official ROM just came out (from cing/htc, that is), this hadn't been thoroughly researched and might be a 'new' problem. I apologize for waisting your time with 'useless crap'.
FYI, it took Shigeo less time/text to answer the question than it did for you to bash me for asking it...
Thanks again.

well, from the time of your post to the time of Shigeo's reply, you could have easily found the answer in the Herme's Registry Tweaks (http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry) section of the wiki. Just scroll through it and glance at the BOLD font and you would of found it!
Disable/change the startup animation or sound
HKLM\SOFTWARE\HTC\StartupAnimation
Enabled - change from 1 to 0 to turn everything off and permanently fix the volume issue.
You can also customize the animated boot up by deleting or changing 2 keys. (Doing this does not fix the volume issue)
Delete the WAVFile Key to remove the sound only.
Delete the GIFFile Key to remove the animation only.
Put your own .GIF file or .WAV file on the phone and rewrite the 2 keys (WAVFile GIFFile) to the new file location. i.e. \My Documents\Files\CustomAnimation.gif

First we have had roms with the animated splash months before this official release, so the reg tweak has been there for a while. 2nd searching the wiki for this info wouldnt have taken hours, a quick google search on the wiki would have yielded the results immediately

I've found many helpful things on this site without asking. I ask one question that has been previously answered and get slammed. I think you guys just get a thrill out of telling people that they're stupid because they haven't searched and read the wiki. I've seen you guys do it to other people, and never thought I'd get flamed because I am usually pretty good about reading / searching first.
I understand that you don't want to continuously answer questions that have been answered before, but you could at least be polite; you know, "You can find that answer here: <weblink>". Short, to the point, and points the person to where you want them to go without being an asshole about it. We're all human; even you geniuses with all the answers. I'm sure you don't like getting shit on any more than I do, so why do it to others?

No, apparently you don't understand because you immediately go on to equate politeness with answering the question. How is giving you the weblink NOT "continuously answering questions that have been answered before"????
You learned several useful things (wiki, specific answer, etc). Your feelings got bruised. Get over it.

no actually i dont think you understand.. When people post redundant questions it becomes harder for other people to search the forum to find the answer. It also gives example to newer members that they dont need to search or read the wiki just post a question and someone will just give them the answer, this also clutters up the board. All in all, redundant questions do more harm then good...
We are done hijacking this thread, no more replies needed on the lack of searching problem... searching is a rule of the board, we can either follow the few rules xda has or go elsewhere. ;) its that simple.

That giving a link answers a question that has already been asked. So what? If this site is truly to help people, and not just to stroke your own enorous egos, then answering a question that has been previously answered should not be a fucking tragic occurance.
I do support for a living. Answering questions that have been answered before and where plenty of documentation already exists is part of the job. So is curtesy and politeness.
"I'm not doing this for a living". I know you aren't, and with the attitude and tone generally displayed by you geniuses, you could not. But again, if this site is to help people and not just to stroke your own egos, then you should expect that sometimes you will have to answer a question that you've answered before, and that is well documented. That's a part of helping people.
I am a person, and all of the people who have been flamed for asking a previously asked question are people. We are not computers, we are not inanimate objects. Not everyone blogs every day, nor searches blogs, or the internet for that matter.
Just one more thing. Being smart is not about what you know; it is about how you share what you know. Interacting with people is different from interacting with computers/machines. 'RTFW' is not sharing; it is being an asshole. "Find the answer here:<weblink>" is sharing, without being an asshole. If being an asshole is something you take pride in, so be it. But I would contend that being an asshole is not something to be proud of.
For the site moderators who do this regularly, if you would truly like to help people, and are in any way concerned about the PEOPLE that you are helping (not just the people's response and adulation of you for your achievements here), might I simply suggest a notepad text file that contains one line boilerplates, where you can copy/paste pointers, instead of flaming the hell out of people because they didn't 'RTFW'.
That would be a curteous thing to do, and wouldn't hurt you a bit.
And for those of you who prefer to flame rather than to help, FU2.

Odd thing just happened. I docked my 8525 with the new ROM so I could copy the PHM Registry editor cab onto the SD card to disable the startup animation and when I browsed to the storage card in Explorer, all the subdirectories were empty.
Odd.
I browsed it on the device itself and they were still empty. I reset the device and everything's back.

Man seriously he was a little on the harsher side of giving info but you are definitely too easily hurt to be on a tech forum on the net. RTFW & RTFM are standard answers on these type of forums and not to be taken as rude, get some tougher skin bud.
Now back to the TOPIC:
Anyone installed this that actually likes it on their 8525?

Anyone installed this that actually likes it on their 8525?The internet connection program seems to be a hell of a lot easier to use than the previous modem app.
From inital use - you enable Internet sharing, plug your USB cable into the phone (assuming it's also plugged into the laptop), and surf away.
The geek in you will miss the activity "LED's" though.

... or do a more thorough search for "disappearing Storage Cards". This is/was a known problem with this and other WM5 Roms (usually associated with 2GB SD Cards).
Although the aforementioned thread talks about a "fix", the only fix that worked for me was WM6 ;)
Hope this helps,

if no one gives a definitive answer i will flash it later today and give the answer... I can say that the .1 rom that was accidentally released was actually faster than .3, but some of the apps werent working, like the xm stuff... hmmm makes me wonder if that specific bloatware is slowing the current release down....
I'm pretty sure it is the same file. I dug into both as far as I could yesterday, down to extracting the NBH files, and everything looked identical. Not knowing enough to dig any deeper, I wouldn't know what else to look at.

Yes, this will work. I used the leaked version weeks ago. Not much improvement, if any, over the stock ROM. Several new and interesting bugs to get used to as well.
I've since upgraded to WM6, and find it a definite improvement, FWIW.

No. I simply accept this since I rarely put the phone on vibrate for anything more than to shut it up in a quiet environment. As soon as you take it off vibrate, the icon in the tray disappears, so it's really not a biggie for me.

the vibrate icon is a new feature, which is something we had integrated into most of the cooked wm6 roms... this new feature will allow you to hold the comm manager button for a few seconds and it will put the phone into vibrate.. if you dont want to utilize this new feature you can go into windows\startup and delete the link for TrayIcon_mannermode, this will keep the icon from showing up, and also disable the press and hold comm manager for vibrate.

Cool, Thanks for the info shogunmark. I have been using the .1 rom for the last day or so and was thinking it was going very quickly. I haven't used .3 so I have no real reference. I know you have used both and I was wondering if you have had the same experience? Also, I did notice that when I go to phone under settings it locks my phone completely. Are you experiencing the same thing?
Thanks again for the info.

wow i go to a meeting off island and am gone for 24 hours and look what i find.
anywho on to the task at hand i have been running the 502.1 hard since i flashed it and although it does seem faster then 502.3 i found tons of bugs in almost all the att installed aps (mobitv, cellular vid etc.) they either don't run at all or crash just as you get it going...
so to 502.3 i go or maybe to one of the wm6 roms... have to see how the night goes after waking up at 4am to catch a flight our and having my flight delayed for nearly an hour for the ride home and finally landing at 830p i am beat.
did find out the cingular had no plans for the near future for wm6 as we all expected, we can still all hope.
i did also find that the 1.41 works better then the 1.40 at least for us non 3g area att peps. battery life and over all signal definite improvement. oh and using opendns settings works great.
going to reflash my phone with something and test it at wrk.

i miss the option of being able to select a network band
for example on the other roms- i can go into phone > menue >option > network tab > then there will option to select BAND either GSM or CDMA
If you slect GSM then youl only get the GSM part of the network (no 3g services)
i know the first question will be WHY WOULD YOU WANT THAT OPTION?
simple answer is where my office i located I have really poor 3g recpeption on the three (uk) network, on GSM band i get full network bars on 3g its only 1 bart, i know in an ideal world the network is suppose to switch between 3g and normal gsm when the reception is low ( 1 bar) but hey in an ideal world we wouldnt be spending billions on a war effort when people are starving on the streets (but hey thats another subject for another topic)
So does anyone know of a reg hack i can use to stop it using 3g?

I have wiped or cleaned out my 8525 so that I am back to day one. I have tried this on 2 separate computers and I get same error messages on both computers. I have searched the "FW" so please help.

Has anyone else noticed That both the internet sharing, and regular data connections seem to be performing iregularly? I seem to be experiencing wide variations in connection speed on both proxy and non proxy connections connecting via wap.cingular. I can no longer access isp.cingular as they do not provision it on my current data plan(pdapersunl1500). The internet sharing utility is also erratic, in that it will randomly not allow me to make an initial connection. This can be overcome by repeatedly trying to load a page, or, strangely, usually by loading the cingular olam page.
I wonder if the wap.cingular apn is currently overloaded with multiple hermes users trying to access with newly upgraded phone.

I can say with certainty that where i am there is no slow down in any of the internet connections I use on my 8525. I consistently run between 350-450kbps/sec around here and it's still running that speed, so I wouldn't think it's their servers.

I have noticed with this ROM that I am constantly having to run ProxyDisable. What is reenabling the proxy so that my internet connection won't work until I run proxy disable? It seems like just connecting my Edge/3G connection is enabling the proxy. I am using mMode unlimited, so I don't have anything that uses the Cingular proxy.
I have also noticed that the Edge/3G connection is not auto-disconnecting. I had noticed poor battery life, and when I clicked the 3G connected icon on the top it said that it was online for 13 hours overnight.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Internet Settings] The default setting (that uses the proxy) is:

"EnableAutoDetect"=dword:00000001 Or simply delete it. It's more of the fact that if it's there and =0 it's used. if it's missing it's not used. But changing it to =1 will also make it disable. This way you can simply change the value back without re-adding the seting back in.

While working with the WM5 emulator, I've noticed that whenever I connect via ActiveSync it enables the Proxy. The device mimics this behavior.
The proxy settings aren't being reset to the pre-docked state. That could be what's enabling your proxy.

1. Is there a way to change the user agent with the included version of pie so that web sites will not see me as a wap browser. By my data plan, I am forced to go through wap.cingular. So, I am wondering if it is my browser, or the apn which forces sites to see me as wap device? This is only an issue with a few sites, unfortunately, this one is included. Since the rom update, my device sees this bb in a wap format, and tries to compress it into about 70-50% of the viewable area on the screen. Original rom did not do this. I accessed through wap.cingular for quite a while, and it was just like accessing through my laptop, only with a smaller screen.
2. I completely eliminated the hard proxy reg enry per the wiki a few days ago, then noticed some problems viewing a site, went to registry, and it was back again. Is it possible that there is something which reinstals it to the registry? I do not think that I activated the included enable proxy cab.
I played around with the enable proxy cab, and it will add the auto detect reg entry back in if you run it. Thus reenabling the hard proxy.
Any help appreciated.

The following is based on several extensive conversations with csr's and my experieces in the past week:
data connect plans are provisioned for isp.cingular and wap.cingular. These include all the plans for laptop cards, and pda unlimited plan. They may also include some of the limited pda plans, but I did not investigate. Bottom line is that you gotta pay to play with isp.
Media max plans are not provisioned for isp.cingular, only for wap.cingular. The new plan called pda max, or pda personal unlimited, is essentialy a media max 1500 message plan and as such does not include isp.cingular.
Provisioned means that your plan has a 'switch' for that apn turned on. If your plan is refreshed by a CSR or automaticly, it will set to whatever defaults have been programmed into it. You may be able to talk a CSR into turning isp on, I was able to twice. However, you may also end up getting charged for all data that passes through unauthorized apn.
I think that resetting the rom and registering on the network resets your data plan to whatever it is 'supposed' to be. I think this is why so many have suddenly lost the isp apn. I think that during periodic system maintenance a reset also occurs. Both of the above have happened to me as far as I can tell. Although you can talk a csr into changing your settings, I think this could get them into trouble, and a hefty bill for you.
My theory is that cing/att is trying to regulate bandwidth usage. I think they want to force most low volume users to wap.cingular, where wap formatted pages will be displayed and less bandwidth is required. This will free up bandwidth in isp.cingular. The new pda max plan is essentialy what many have been using already, but for a higher fee. (this last paragraph is a bit editorial in nature)

Remove the PTT Fix
Any work around for this?

6th May 2007, 06:08 AM
no i dont think there is a work round ive been looking at the request of one of my team members and havnt found it. i think this is due to the PTT being hard coded to the OS so the PTT fix conflicts with the hard coded PTT program.
if i am wrong i am sorry i am just guessing as i dont know how the programing side of the fix works.
PTT is probably the main reason if not the only reason to use this rom, my opinion of course =).
i have ptt provisioning on my account but dont like using it all that much i have been switching between WM6 and this one to see if there are any worth while advantages to this rom. i do how ever suggest upgrading to the 1.41 radio we have found it to be better in testing thus far.

im trying to recall this out of memory so i hope that someone can either confirm or deny this... but i read on here, maybe it was this thread or another thread as i cant find it at the moment.. but somewhere on here someone reported that in april cingular had made a provisioning change and isp.cingular wont work if you have the media net plans.. however if you want it to work you have to call cingular and have them provision isp.cingular on your account! .......... man i wish i could find this thread..
Called cingular/at&t yesterday and said ok what's up with the isp? Female data tech says you must go through wap. I asked why and she says because all pda connect unlimited plans go through wap and laptop tethering goes through isp.cingular. So after she said that I told her to put me on the medianet max plan cause I dont tether and of course she says no sir, we cant do that you have a pda.....I knew she was gonna say this so I was ready for her. Simply stated to her that if I am going through wap and using the medianet profile that she insisted I stayed on for the cv and mms then why have pda unlimited and not the medianet max? They are like a robot, programmed to say the same thing over and over....(in a mono tone voice) sir, you have a pda. Lmao....I really dont care either way but they really need to work with the public that has high end devices and provision their data plans better.

Flashed the ROM last night. Everything is working great it seems, but I though I had read some where getting CV to work, but all I get is your account can't do this choose an account blah blah. Did I miss a step in my 60 pages of reading between this ROM and the leaked one's threads?
PTT fix is working fine for me as well. Pocket Plus and Weather work fine (although I need to find another weather app as SPB's seems to be wrong more then local stations). Loaded the Sirius app but haven't tried it. I really just want CV to work and might see if I can knock my service from the PDA unlimited to Media max since I don't teather anyway. I just want unlimited internet and to be able to get my emails.

I'm new here so bear with me. First off thank you for all the great info, tips, and tricks.
Now to the point, I was running a stock 8525 on Cingular/at&t. I like everyone else upgraded(if you want to call it that) to the new rom 5 days ago. The process went very smooth(Thanks again to all the great info here on flashing ROMs) but I have noticed that the tasks from my outlook load and list on the 8525 but they are not in order and are not repopulating(re-occuring) as they did on the old ROM.
Now just like everyone else thats new here I read the Wiki, read the cingular forums and the HTC USA forums. Only acouple of other people on the cingular forum reported the same prob. What I would like to know if anyone else here has noticed or heard of this problem, and what the fix is.

I bet you are having the same problem that I am having. Whenever my phone connects its data connection, it is not disconnecting after sitting idle. So if you have your phone checking your email it will connect, and stay connected. Check your connection icon at the top middle of your home screen. If you single click on it, it will show you how long it has been connected, as well as give you the option of disconnecting. I haven't got any answers on how to fix this though. I am surprised more people aren't seeing this also.

I switched over to the media max plan for $20 from their insane PDA connect plan a few months back online and havent had any problems. i use alot of data between email, browsing, slingplayer and tethering.
I can agree that it seems very unfair that "phone" or even "smartphone" owners only have to pay $20 a month while those with a "PDA" have to pay $40. But I can also tell you the rationale behind it, and it's true. Those of us with PDAs are likely to use more than twice as much data usage as those with standard phones. That's why we opted for phones with a full keyboard so we can type our emails and with Internet Explorer built right in.
That being said, it is true that you can probably switch your plan online to any of the Media Max plans without anyone in Cingular being any the wiser. But remember that you then will only be able to connect through wap.cingular and not through isp.cingular. So if you don't need to use isp.cingular, then that's certainly a possible way to get unlimited data for less money. I will say that I've known people that have suddenly lost their ability to tether, even on the PDA Connect plans, without any warning. I don't know how Cingular catches on (maybe it's related to what method you connect, i.e. dial-up network/Cingular connection manager/the newer and better internet connection sharing/etc...), but I think they can if you tether a lot. If you only do it a couple times a month for short periods, I think you're good.
Lastly, everyone should know that Cingular also just rolled out new PDA Unlimited Connect plans that include 1500 text/pic/vid/im messages for the same $39.99 that you're paying now. So basically, you're getting 1500 messages for free, but you need to stop into a retail store or call customer care to make the change. Same price, more features. That's a no brainer.

You must work in marketing ;) Last I checked "Unlimited" was the same as "Unlimited" - this would be like charging $6 for the "All you can eat buffet" for women and $12 for the "All you can eat buffet" for men. Same idea right, men are "likely to eat more than twice as much" as women - no proof, no accounting for individuals or history, nothing. Try that at the local Chew-N-Choke and let us know how it works out for ya.

Anybody else notice a glitch with Messaging (ie: txt messages) that when you open up the message, the window is pre-scrolled a page down so you have to scroll up to read your message?
A co-worker who hasn't upgraded yet says that while the Internet Sharing is damned easy to get working, he gets 1.5 mbs over his dialup and hasn't seen even half that on the new ROM testing with an upgrated 8525.
I'm having serious thoughts of downgrading back to the stock ROM. This version is too buggy for my tastes.

If at all this is true( i.e. tethering a lot and being disabled by cingular ), What the HECK is the meaning of UNLIMITED data plan? I know cingular will invoke a rule explaining conditions when UNLIMITED data plan holds true -- i.e. a cloud should be up in the sky, with a particular shape in a random latitude & longitude and only then UNLIMITED data plan applies to subscribed customers.

The EnableAutoDetect registry entry continuing to return may be related to the default Media Net connection. I created a new connection called "Media Net - No Proxy" and deleted EnableAutoDetect. It has not reappeared yet.
Edit:
Nevermind - EnableAutoDetect reappears after enabling WLAN. I also noticed that WLAN-On disables the proxy, and WLAN-Off enables the proxy. PIE doesn't want to load web pages after turning WLAN-Off and reconnecting via cellular 3G (Activesync connects fine). Connection manager seems more buggy than the old ROM.

I loaded this ROM in hopes of better signal strength, but my bars are now showing less service then before the upgrade (from 1.34 radio to 1.40 radio). I also notice that I can have two bars of 3G service and in the middle of being online (sitting still in one place) it will drop over to E and then using it for the net becomes useless. I find mainly that I get less 3G coverage then I had before.
I do find it strange that it will show no bars sometimes, but I will still get phone calls fine, but won't get any connection on the net, even if it says 3G.
The leaked rom had rave reviews for signal quality with the same Radio, did something change going from the leaked version to this one? If so, I will probably go back to the leaked one (never loaded it), or the stock one.
Yesterday I dropped my PDA plan and went down to Media Max 200. I now get cingular video and the same speed connecting (if the above problems don't come into play) where before I couldn't get CV to work. I don't tether my phone to anything, so I don't see any reason for me to need ISP.cingular when I would rather watch videos and use my phone for entertainment. I did notice some extra Media Max and PDA plans on cingulars site under rate plans when I was changing. Looks like you need to go in and change to a new PDA plan to get CV and keep tethering abilities. It is listed at the same price as the old PDA plan.

I found the registry key responsible for making EnableAutoDetect reappear when changing WLAN-On/WLAN-Off.
Change:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\Operator\On_Detection_with_WLan
From 1 to 0
Connection manager is still buggy after changing from WLAN to 3G. Third party apps like Google Maps and Netfront appear to have problems reconnecting. I think the 1.34 ROM was much better with changing between 3G and WLAN.

So is anyone using PTT with this new rom. It seems to be working when I PTT one of my contacts but when they try to PTT me it comes in as a phone call with an added 33 at the end. In order to hear it I have to answer it like a phone call and I cannot respond. I searched to find this answer but I could not find anything. Has anyone else had this issue? I know that Cingular/ATT uses 33 to initiate the call, or at least I think that I have heard this. But my phone is not recognizing it correctly. Also when I initiate the PTT we can talk back and forth just fine. If anyone has any ideas that would be helpful. Thanks.

from my months of trialing the PTT i have found there could be several causes of this.. any dialer changes, 3rd party software etc.. when i ran the rom stock with nothing on it then i could never duplicate this problem.... but if you have installed a dialer i would start there first..

I've been using my Blue SIM with the older ROM and I have been able to do everything I need...Tethering, browsing, Mail. I have the old Unlimited PDA option. I understand that CV may not work, but I am curious if I will have any other problems. For instance the new way of tethering (Internet Sharing) will that cause me problems? It sounds like I can remove the proxy settings so I should not have problems getting Internet access.

I have noticed after this upgrade that if I don't use PIE for a while it hangs on locating... for about a minute before it opens the page. I also noticed this when I switch from isp to Media net it will hang there for a long period of time. I turn off hard coded proxy into IE to get the real isp to work. Is there settings that I am missing? I searched the wiki and couldn't find anything.

Before I updated with the ATT Rom, if I turned the wheel up on phone mode (keypad on screen), it would show call history. Now that feature has disappeared.
Any idea about how to bring it back?

Check the setting for your USB connection. Try different options for "Enable Advanced Networking Option" or whatever it is called.

Here an official sms I received from Cingular/ATT a few minutes ago:
Free Cingular msg: New 8525 SW upgrade for download - adds Push to Talk, music, & video. From PC go to www.america.htc.com/products/8525/default.html for info.
When I go there it advertises 8525 with wm 5.0 so I don't know what SW upgrade they're talkng abut, althogh they say to go there from PC. i'll try that when I get home.

After applying the new AT&T ROM, the special character key mappings seem to be screwed up on the slide-out keypad.
Has anybody else had this issue? I've flashed the ROM with some other roms and it seems to still be occurring.
I'm still a noob when it comes to this stuff, so any quick advice would be helpful.
Thanks!

If you got the phone from Cingular, then there is a file in the ExtROM that is a cab file ans has "shortstring" in the name. Run that and it will remap your keyboard properly. Otherwise, google search the forum (using the link in my sig) for "keyboard map fix" or something like that.

Hey Y'all,
I just installed the new cingular ROM yesterday for PTT functionality. And I have read the WIKI and this entire thread for all the great hacks, but I have one problem that persists. In my previous ROM I had followed the WIKI to setup Voice Command 1.5 and it worked great. Now I try to install on my new ROM and it tells me that it can't run because it gets errors. Anyone else having this issue or know of a resolution? Thanks.

I just installed the new AT&T ROM and it solved my BMW car bluetooh problems!
With the original ROM (9/21/06) I would not be able to connect to my 2005 BMW 545i's built-in bluetooth if my phone was in standby mode. I would also lose connection if I put my phone on standby manually after it was connected. It was frustrating to constantly turn off and on the bluetooth connection on the phone to get it to connect and stay connected to my car.
Now, so long bluetooth is enabled on my phone, my 8525 will automatically connect without further interaction (just like my Moto Razr used to do).
This bluetooth fix is reason enough to upgrade. I wish I knew sooner that this problem was fixed. I would have upgraded sooner.

I would be a pain to downgrade the phone just to take it to them, then have to upgrade again later.
it is wm 5

I upgraded to the new ROM and SpbPocket plus seems to lock thedevice up at times, especially if it is being charged and an incoming message or call come in. It looses the call in history and there isno record of the text message when you reboot.
It looks like it is simply very, very slow because some of the keys or actove areas worl a little; llike a menu will pop up but thne nothing.
as a small not the AT&R ringer seems about 5 times the old cingular ring tone. will make a nice trash can item for more mem.

Although it is wm 5 it did fix bt connectivity prblems ppl were having with cooked wm 6. HTC's webste also promises free upgrade to wm 6 in the FALL for att customers and I think this will b the optimal solution after great cooks remove all the extra software from it.

Hey I'm a noob to all this stuff. I have an AT&T 8525. I downloaded and installed the new ROM from the HTC website. Before I did all that a friend of mine installed some cool programs on my phone that worked great. But when I took them off and reapplied after the install of the new ROM they don't work as well. The programs are as follow: jimm98y_vista dialer.cab, livesearch.cab, palm_threaded_SMS.cab, weatherpanel-trial.CAB
Is there anything I can do? The Palm Threaded SMS program is tight and was awesome before the new ROM was installed but since then it kept screwing up in such that it would re-send messages that had already been sent. Any help would be greatly appreciated

I just got one of the premier 8525's and it came with the new AT&T ROM. It works with Voice Command the same way that my Cingular 8525 did. You can push the button on the headset, but the sounds come through the phone until the call is connected.
On the Cingular 8525, I installed the .09f xda fix, that worked great. Will that fix work on the AT&T 8525 ROM?
Question Two: I'm not very "techie", but I read the Wiki and the above posts about the animated volume fix. It's hard to believe a company would do that to a phone on purpose! I haven't done a fix to a registry like that before.
I see the first line, and then it shows to put 1 or 0, something like that, but it doesn't say exactly where. Is it real obvious when I have the registry open? I'll go back & read it again, plus I'll have everything right in front of me when I try apply the hack, but I'm trying to be as clear as possible before I start.
Thanks for your help. This forum is wonderful. I've been reading for a couple of hours. I read for days before I got brave enough to try the Voice Command fix the on my other phone. My husband is going to use that one now. I haven't upgraded the ROM on it, mainly because I'm afraid to!

I'm using the new ROM 2.15. Works fine except the addition of Internet Sharing vs. Wireless Modem. Internet Sharing is bandwidth throttling, which cuts the previous speed from 800kbs to 300kbs. Does anyone know how to fix this problem or at the very least is there a CAB I could use to install wireless modem?

For what it is worth:
First, I have read this entire thread.
I had a Cingular 8525. Worked great except tapping stopped functioning (ie, I couln't tap even after hard and soft re-boots). I returned it and got a new ATT 8525 (as I was still in the 30 day period).
New ATT8525 same as Cingular but rebranded as ATT. Also loaded already with new ATT ROM (2.15.502.3 and radio 1.40.30.00). Previous 8525 loaded with 1.34.502.1 and 1.16.00.00.
I have several of the problems reported in this thread that I did not have before, most notably -- internet access is hugely slooooooow.
New ATT 8525 came with WAP.Cingular as default (as did my Cingular 8525). For no reason I can discern internet access is so slugish compared to just yesterday (with Cingular 8525). So, I am comparing these two phones. One fast, the other slow. The only difference, I believe, is the new ROM. Also, when I was able to connect to Mobi TV once -- seemed to work fine -- now it doesn't connect to Mobi TV.
I haven't seen a definitive answer as to remedy for this unacceptably slow internet performance. Will going back to an earlier ROM help here? Thoughts anyone?
________
UPDATE -- PROBLEM RESOLVED:
A soft reboot solved this for me. I was alarmed that my new 8525 was underperforming my previous one and I did not take the obvious first step in analyzing the problem: a reboot. I did not need to do a hard reboot. JB

I'll go ahead and post a fix here, since it looks like all 8525 owners will be affected.
To fix the keyboard map for the hardware keyboard, go into the registry, HKLM\Software\OEM\Qwerty and change the value from "132105" to "263177".
