Yea, So I have an 8525 on Cing... er AT&T's PDA Connect Unlimited plan, however, even though i have UMTS available in my area, it will only use GPRS (occasionaly it will try and connect to UMTS but fail, and i will lose service temporarily). I called them up and they said this is because my phone is unlocked. I have 3 quesions
1. Is what At&T said true "Deborah_W: Whisper to *-BATOSI
okay. that is why the umts does not work. umts is cingular's technology and won't work on an unlocked device. Sorry about that." ?
2. Is there anyway to relock my pda?
3. Is there anyway for me to disable the phones ability to use UMTS from the phone side?

1. Cingular is obviously full of shit. UMTS works just fine on a device that isn't broken
2. No
3. Yes, use htweakc to change it

It probably is my PDA, when I upgrade to newer radio roms, I get serious problems such as no service and the pda not recognizining a sim being in

Change it online yourself - remove the PDAConnect, then re-add the MediaMax200 for $19.99

Disconnect from the idiot.. Then, go to your local cingy store and get the phone replaced after you flash the RELEASED cingy rom (the new one).
Oh, and you should do the MediaMax Unlimited plan IMHO...

to bad, the device has been opened up, and you can no longer change standalone data plans online

yea, anyways, I told the guy my pda was screwed and I told him I was gonna use a qtek 8500 (I wish) and asked him to change it to smartphone connect. He said he will blah blah blah, something about not going to see change untill next billing cycle i was too excited about getting it changed to pay attention ;)

how would I disable UMTS form HTweak, disable HSPDA?
edit: I disabled HSPDA but it still tries to connect to UMTS

huh? Go to the online customer manager, delete pda connect, and add the 39.99 mediamax unlimited.. Then, just make sure you never use isp.cingular!
It's perfectly fine to use. Even their own rebate submission forms allow 'any personal plan at 39.99 or more' to get their $50 mail in rebate!

the PDA Connect unlimited is not an add on feature to a voice plan, it is a stand-alone plan

You are flat-out wrong. I have it. Have you even looked at the online plan options?

OK, I worded it wrong. PDA connect can be an added feature, but it can also be a stand alone plan for $44.99 as PDAConnectUnit
