It doesnot look like there is. unless the application can be "launched" with a switch. Creating a shortcut to the app with the switch in the command would work.
Does anyone know if this is this or the previous version of the software can do this?

As for the exculsive list. There is a reg key called "StopExclusive" in HKCU/Software/HTC/TaskManager
But im not sure what to put in there to add a program to the Exclusive list.

Figured out the exclusive list
Need to add some registry settings in
HKCU/Software/HTC/TaskManager/StopExclusive/
Add a String with
Name=(the executable)
String=Program Name
Eg:
Name: MobileCalculator
String:Calculator
This then adds Calculator to the exclusive list and off the running programs list.

Sorry, but i have installed over Black 3.0.1 without any modification over time indicator on the top bar, and works fine.
I suppose you have modify the clock on the top bar and this are given you the issue.

i actually didnt modify the clock, etc, just installed this cab... i did finally make it go away though... after i un-installed the cab it was still there.. which is when i checked the registry and everything was cool, even soft reset 3 times... so finally, i went into the settings menu, went to clock&alarms, i unchecked the "display clock in title bar", then powered the phone off using the power button, after i powered it back on the battery meter was gone, i went back in and checked to show the clock and all is fine now...

Hi All,
It's very easy to add programs to the exclusive list.
Start the program you want te exclude
Go to X-Button options (trough today-icon, or Settings => System => X-Button
Go to the Running tab
Tap on the name of the program you want te exclude
Choose Add Exclusive
Very easy!
Enjoy!

I've found that when running, it interferes with Spb Weather: it actually prevents the city names from showing up. Disabling it immediately resolves the problem.
I've removed it from my TyTN, and I'm sticking with the Pocket Plus Close Button.

Sorry folks, but i need a lil help. This has been driving me crazy. I'm assuming that in the X-button options, the "exclusive programs list" are the programs that will stay open after you press the x button (an exception list if u will)
I want to set it so when i click x, it will close the programs immediately. I was able to do that, but i want to add "exceptions" to this rule. For example, i want the text msg/e-mail program to stay open at all times, cuz it takes bout 3 seconds or so to load up every time if it is completely closed.
My question is, how do you add programs to the exclusive list? I have been trying to figure this out for some time now...

I've had this issue through several ROM's since installing this (or if it came with the ROM): Changes to the Today screen require a soft reset to register: change in the order of apps or removing/adding a today plug in. Seen in Black 2.5 and 3.0; Custel 1.3, 2.5 and Elf's (LVSW) ROM.
Anybody else having this issue

In the Sleuth255 LVSW version here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308019 he says:
Here are the known issues:
* when you delete the last note in OneNote it doesn't refresh the list and the note appears to not be deleted until you restart OneNote again.
* On the Today screen, X-Box changes the font on SPB weather and SPB Time to Black (only happens if "Enable Today X button" is selected). SPB has posted a fix for SPBWeather here
* Unable to add programs to the X-Box exclusive list without reghacks.
* If only the "Enable the X button to end running programs" option is checked int X-Button, the today screen won't refresh when you change the items unless you SR. The today items work normally if any other combination is selected in the button tab.
The last issue can be the solution for the XButton issue with Today Themes...

Well, if anyone is still having problems with the HTC app, here is an alternative I am using (also mentioned in an earlier post, but no CAB).
This is the old freeware version of InClose (no longer available, I believe)
It's got everything the HTC app has, but also adds screen rotate and reset functions in the drop-down task list menu.
I've mapped it to the voice recorder button and it works very well. I've not tested it on the latest WM6 ROMs (still using one of the first ones - works for me...).
I would post screenshots but no time right now. Anyway, just something to try for those of you with the today screen and SPB weather issues.

If problem below you are running Version 1.0
TO fix go to start ?? setting >> system >> X-button and make sure all the buttons are unchecked.
then install/reinstalled New x-button 1.5 it worked with me.
Does not work with 2.15.502.3 where HTC X Button version 1.0 build 2766 is already installed. Cab install fine but it does not change version number after succefull installtion. Any one have any idea how get version 1.0 out?

I've found that when running, it interferes with Spb Weather: it actually prevents the city names from showing up. Disabling it immediately resolves the problem.
I've removed it from my TyTN, and I'm sticking with the Pocket Plus Close Button.
I have Spb Weather and this does not cause a problem. I am using both just fine.

If your country code is 0409:
1. Before install X-Button, use Resco Explorer to change \windows\taskmgrres.dll.0409.mui to taskmgrres.dll.0409.mui.bak
2. Install X-Button, restart
If your country code is not 0409 (0404 for example):
1. Install X-Button , DO NOT restart yet!
2. Use Resco Explorer to change \windows\taskmgrres.dll.0404.mui to taskmgrres.dll.0404.mui.bak
3. Use Resco Explorer to change \windows\taskmgrres.dll.0409.mui to taskmgrres.dll.0404.mui
4. Restart
43682 43683 43684
And X-Button version 1.5 should be fine.
If you dunno what's your country code, just go check \windows\WLanMgr.exe.****.mui
That **** will be your country code then.

Partly solved, it draws the screen properly, but it still soft resets. If you use stop all, somehow x-button 1.51 dies and you get the standard x, then if attempt to kill a running program you get an error that leads to soft reset.

Hey, I have been using X-Button for awhile now but stumbled and switched to this new app...called SmallMenuPlus. This acts as a task manager with animated menus, cascading menus, you can keeps your regular start menu as well, power off button function, and also can be mapped to a hardware button so that it can be called up anytime. The best thing about is it takes up only 59.5kb.
I don't think I can live without this app anymore....SOOO GOOD! Give it a try!!!

I have been using this app for years. The problem is, it does not automatically close an application when you hit the X - unless I have not been using it properly.

I use it in conjunction with X-Button. I don't enable the X-Button menu icon but I set it so that it closes programs when I tap and hold down "X". Along with SmallMenuPlus it works wonders.
Or you can set it just in SmallMenuPlus to only allow any number of programs to run at any given time, otherwise it will close them.

Each of these tends to point toward missing registry entries with the 1.51 version, however it's hard to say for sure without knowing the build numbers.

I have tried numerous "X" button programs, and I have the same problem with all of them, including the last one 2 version, even after after hard reset. The X button has either an extremely hard time closing down the Phone Dial pad app. (the one that comes up when you press the green talk button), or minimum, if it does manage to close, you still see the Phone app. in the X button menu that is still there, but no X beside it. You don't really know if it is still using resources by sitting there. I use Schaps 3.54C now, and as I said, have great difficulty closing down the dial pad. The OK button does a more reliable job in actually making the Dialpad screen go away, but the menu item showing phone still is showing up.. Sometimes, you can see , after hitting the X button, by either way, hold or tick, you can see the Xbutton appl over and over again trying to shut down the phone, sometimes 10 or more times, before the phone pad screen is taken off to show the Today screen. I would like to know if anyone else has similar problem, and what corrective measure they might have taken. Thx

I use X Button 1.51, an excellent utility, but I have noticed an apparent anomaly.
Using X Button, I can close down all of my running programs, or so I think, so that none show on the X Button drop down menu. But, if I go to System, Running Programs, I see that Comm Manager is still running! I can only close down the Comm Manager through Running Programs as it never appears as an active program on X Button.
There are no programs in my Exclusive List.
Any ideas guys?

Thanks, vp3g, but this doesn't appear to be the answer.
I have edited the exclusion list in the registry, in my case Item 8, Comm Manager. After a soft reset, Comm Manager still does not appear in the X Button menu, but does in Running Programs. I have confirmed that it no longer exists in HKCU\Software\HTC\TaskManager\APPS.

I am somewhat amazed at the attention given to this app when it seems, at best, to be a second rate task switcher.
Why would anyone bother with this? Other than being able to set [X] to close instead of minimise it seems to be a fairly useless app.
It is only functional as a task manager when you are at the Today screen, and inaccessible when you are in any other app (unless I have missed something).
Why would you use this when you could use any of the other free task managers, that have far more functionality? e.g:
PBar - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=284952
TMan - http://pda.jasnapaka.com/tman/releases/0.9.8.php
SmartTask - http://www.fraganestis.com/chthon/software/SmartTask/
WKTask - http://soft.photoracer.net/docs/wktask_en.html
Given the time and commitment these authors have given to their apps they would seem to be far more worthy of the attention being shown here than HTC X-Button is.
Just thoughts, please do not read this as flame bait as that is not the intention. I do want to know if I have seriously missed something.

You are quite right. PBar is a superior task manager in every respect, but X-Button is in most ROMs released by the chefs, and cannot easily be removed. For us poor 'users' rather than 'developers', we are stuck with X-Button, and are trying to make it work.

So several people have asked but I see no answer. Can you map this to a hardware button? Not the full task manager with the check boxes, but the small upper right hand corner list.
I used to use Inclose on WM5, and it works great, but with WM6, it seems this is included in the ROM and conflicts with Inclose.

If all you really want to do is make the X button close, then just unzip the attached file anywhere and execute smclose.exe (click on it again to close it). If you want to set and forget, then create a shortcut to smclose.exe in the Windows\StartUp folder.
At only 8kb, the exe doesn't take up much space or resources and your system doesn't slow down a bit. This puts the HTC app to shame (a 243kb cab that does such a simple thing is a pretty extreme example of bloat if you ask me).
All the credit goes to Y. Nagamidori of GSPlayer fame.

I also think X-Button is a bit overrated. I think another good one missing in jcrayon's overview is the Close Button in Spb Pocket plus, it does about the same, but it allows you to use hold or guestures to show the task manager or minimize the app.

Yes you can. go to start/settings/personal tab/ buttons/ set wahtever button you desire to <OK/Close> it is almost at the top of the list uder Assign Program.
As far as using anything but X-Button1.51: most other programs take up space and reasourses... and ram... and startup time... and etc.
The way you make today screen button active to stop certain programs is:
Start/Today - - - - You now have acces to the taskmanager on your today screen without having quit any programs.
Hope that helps. Have a nice day:)
