??? I've never had a problem with it before??? I've been using spb backup flawlessly since the early MB and Underground releases.

am i the only one when it comes to backing up wm6 taking 15-20 minutes to do? i just updated to the new one to support wm6 and it just took 16 minutes to complete...i've read that it should usually take 5-6 minutes tops...i didn't get any error messages...anyone know whats going on?

I haven't tried it yet with black 3.+

I've seen a lot of ppl complaining that spb backup is slower on black 3.0+. But i haven't heard if it compromised the backup or not.

I too can confirm that SPB Backup 1.5.5 runs mad slow (around 15-20 min for full backup) on Black 3.0 and 3.0.1. I also get one error message about some file being locked by NK.exe. However, restoring the backup runs fine but also takes a while. I don't think this is a WM6 thing but rather a Black 3x thing since whenever I run SPB Backup on LVSW and Black 2x WM6 Roms, all is good taking less than 10 min.

Version 1.6 is still taking a full 30 minutes to perform a backup with Black 3.01...

Incidentally, it took about 5 minutes under WM5... Strange!

But for sure I had a lot of issues with 1.5.5 with WM6. like not being able to activesync after a restore...
Let's hope this one will work better.
Anybody into hard-reset to try it ...

I started using Sprite Backup when I went to WM6, and it backs up in less than 2 minutes (about 4-5 if you include the resets involved). I haven't tried SPB Backup on mine since WM5 but it worked well there.

Hi

Always I had the problem with the recovering data using SPB backup concerning MMS messages recovering. After the recovering work, it appeared the MMS titles but not the inside MMS information.
It seems that with this new release the problem is solved.
Please confirm.

Thanks

Cribeiro

I've run 1.5.5. on WM5 and WM6. On WM5 it ran in about 2-3 minutes and for my Apps/ ROM configuration required about 11-12 MB for full back-ups.

When running 1.5.5 on WM6 the backup started taking a lot longer, about 20 minutes, but the backup file dropped to about 6 MBs for a somewhat leaner application configuration. I got the compimet.0409.dat error but after applying the registry hack posted in several threads, the error went away. The backup still ran long, and the hack apparently does not solve scheduled backup problems that some users were experiencing.

On WM6 and 1.6, no registry hack needed to avoid the compimet error, but the backup still runs long, about 16 minutes (a little faster than 1.5.5 but still not as quick as on WM5). Not sure about the scheduled backup functionality, but I bet that too is fixed. Maybe the extra time is needed to compress down the backup file to a smaller footprint than for WM5??

Can 1.6 be able to do upgrade restores to help when I upgrade firmware? Read that Sprite supports it.

I too switched from SPB due to the excessive time it took to make a backup. Sprite takes ~5 minutes as someone else has said.

I have Sprite Backup v5.1.1447

Hmm. I am running SPB Backup 1.6 on my Pro Black 2.0 Vanilla and it only takes 4-5 min.

SPB Mobile Shell was giving me problems.

I guess ill just have to wait for them to release a support for wm6.

6mn 15s for a 20Mb backup with version 1.6 of SPB Backup

I will move to the lite version of my LVSW rom and try a restore...
We will see if this works!

hmmm... v1.61 doesn't work in scheduled mode on my ROM. Dies immediately when starting backup leaving my TyTN with all services disabled.

Normal full backups have no issues and only take a few minutes.

I've never had a problem and backups are always quick. I don't use scheduled backup feature but will test it both before and after upgrading SPB backup.

I am reporting too an excessive time of more than 20 min. to backup Hermes with any of WM6 cooked ROMs. I'm using SPB Backup 1.51.

That didnot happen with my earlier HTC Wizard with WM5 or WM6 in it.

Had the same schedule backup problem with your variant of LSVWs ROM. However, after rerunning the scheduled backup wizard I've had no problems.

NB. If you're using the BT Explorer, you may need to exclude the file %Windows%\btdisk.tmp

I find it quite slow on Black3.5 for some reason, can take up to half hour. Used to take about 7 mins

Can i use it to make backup prior of flashing a new rom and then restore eeverything or the differences between rom can break something?

spb backup is not good for restoring after changing roms.

I am using 1.6.1
It seems can't work 100% smooth
If I tick "stop all processing before backup", the scheduled backup pops then...... stop all processing......included spb backupo itself =.="

if I don't tick "stop all processing before backup", it works fine

I use the 'ol "list of apps" with a folder named "cabs" that contains everything. Takes me about 30 minutes to get back up and running again after a re-flash.

I agree, I have a folder on my memory card especially for my usual apps and fixes in, including TomTom, this makes it so easy to have the new rom exactly as you want it.

Ok. I'll try this way but for the other contents (sms, mms, email and pim in general) what do you do?

spb backup is not good for restoring after changing roms.

Why is that Sleuth? And this maybe a stupid question, but does SPB Backup and / or Sprite backups the entire ROM? Or is it only the apps and settings that it backs up?

I made a full SPB Backup before upgrading to Black Shadow. I restored the backup and it looks like it restored to Black Dymond. My intentions were just to restore the apps and settings to the new ROM. Do these programs work this way or not?

Thanks.

The key is that they back up/restore the registry whose settings often change drastically in different ROM versions.

So is Sprite stable nowadays? I used to read complaints about it before...

I am not sure about "before", but I have never swayed from Sprite. As I transitioned from WM5 to WM6 I used Sprite on my Wizard and later my Hermes with no troubles. I alway set it to auto backup during the wee hours and have made and restored many backups with no trouble. They now offer a free trial so take them up on it and test it out for yourself. FYI: I am not affiliated with Sprite other than the role of satisfied consumer.

Prerna

Thanks for that. Tried Sprite and got a backup done in 50 seconds, with the usual error for a couple of files that could not be read or so.

In the Sprite settings there is an exclusion list. If you place *.tmp and *.dat into that list the error ends. They are temp files that serve no significant purpose.
