Enable GPS in MDA vario II

Just found out that t-mobile disable the GPS functionality on the vario II unless you cough up for their "co-pilot" software... Anyone know how they did this and/or a workaround?

The vario II has a GPS chip in it but no antenna. T-mobile could enable the chip but it would still not work. IT is more likely they bundle a bluetooth gps unit when you pay the added ammount for the sat nav software.
