In different threads I see different meaning about SPB software and their performance on WM6 especially about the memory consuming.

I think it a good idea to discuss the sbp software in this thread in stead of the other treads. In the other treads this thread can be referenced when needed.

Can you reply to in this thread which SPB software you are using in WM6 without any troubled?

Thanx!

John

Yes, I use SPB Diary & SPB Backup as well. I used to have problem with the SPB Backup (v1.5) but the latest version 1.6 Built 2753 is ok, I do not have issue with Full Backup. According to the change log, this version is designed to work with WM6. So if you have problem, try using the latest version..

It's a temporary file, I'm not an expert but I doubt you'd need it.

I think its not the problem that it don't work well in the front, but the problem is the mem. leak after a couple of hours my mem. schrinks with 10 mb after a soft reset it is ok again.

Have you check the Task Manager to see if there are any 'open' program? By default WM6 does not 'close' the application rather keeps it in the background. If you have a lot of application in the background, of course this will take up memory as well.

So far I do not experience any 'out of memory' problem. To me it doesn't matter if after a few hours of usage I have less memory (it might be WM6's way of keeping some portion of the application cached in the memory for faster recall??). Memory is there to be utilized. As long as WM6 knows how to free them up when I start a big application, then I am fine.

Memory being utilized is good memory, A lot of free memory but not being utilized is not good memory. At the end of the day it's the user experience that matters. If this is WM6's way of making the whole PDA more 'responsive', I'm happy to have this than to have a machine that is sluggish with a lots of free memory.

Sorry for double post (also in Tips & Tricks) but:

With regard to SpB Mobile Shell, it may be worth leaving it to settle down a little.

I use SpB Diary, Phone Suite and Mobile Shell.

Due to the possible memory leak, I removed Mobile Shell for 3 days, but couldn't live without its functionality.

I reinstalled it on Monday evening, at which point, Memory was 22MB. By 8am it was down to 17.5MB, so I thought 'here we go again'; however, by 11am it was back to 18.5MB, and has stayed pretty much the same since, so I'm happy!

SpB Time still wont work- seems to create 2 alarms for the same time, so one activated with no sound; shutting that activates the 2nd with sound.

Chronos works fine (and much smaller footprint, if not so nice interface)

Without the infamous memory-leak you mean ?

Cause i've found the leak to be not that annoying, apart from one thing i experienced yesterday: the Bluetooth of Trinity simply doesn't want to turn on if memory is below 20 Megs....

Mobile Shell is known to kill battery and memory, but I know they released a newer version and I haven't heard any reviews on it and if they fixed those issues.

I use SPB Weather & Full Keyboard with no issues on WM6.

I also use spb mobile shell and I usually have 21 - 22 free memory, so I don't see any leak at all

Can someone please post their registry entry for the GPRS Monitor Today plugin? I have installed GPRS Monitor, and only the actual application is working. The Today plugin is not anywhere to be seen, not even in the today item settings. I have checked the registry and there is an entry there but it doesnt seem complete.

Thanks guys.

using:
time
shell
phone suite
diary

I've had problems with the alarm function of spb time. in the morning it wont ring, need to do a softreset and the battery lost about 30-40% per night. this problem was only when the pda wasn't connected to the charger.

Probably one solution: (alarm works fine this morning, battery at 90%!! <- thats even after unplug from charger and playing around for some minutes...)
deactivate in the "Today"-options, that after 4h go back to Today-Screen... it seems to have a prob with the spb shell screen...

SPB is good but cause so much instability.
I use:
Mobile Shell
Pocket Plus
Diary
Time

I don't really know which program drains the memory but when I have them installed, i have to restart my phone like a few times a day for sure... or else, the reception to my phone just dies... (this is with WM5)
With WM6 (Ausdim's), it hangs my phone every now and then. PocketPlus also don't work properly sometime. Very unstable.

I was so frustrated that I reflashed my phone with WM5 rom without installing any SPB products in. So far so good I have to say. Don't have to restart at all, receptions always good.

Yet I have to say... I really really like SPB products

Mobile Shell Tools: sometimes after device goes to sleep (screen is off), i can't wake it up by pressing power button :( need to do a soft reset. uninstalled MST, problem fixed.

Pocket Plus: slowed down things considerably :(

I use WM6 "official" beta

I completely agree. I have installed mobile shell, phone suite and pocket plus, and I from time to time device can't wake up. Moreover I have some problems activating bluetooth that I believe could be related to phone suite.

Very good software, with no competence, but quite unstable... really a pitty!

I have to second rodalfa and chunga168. SPB products are cool and useful, but they cause tons of problems on my Trinity. I used SPB Mobile Shell and SPB Phonesuite.

I had to reset 3 or 4 times a day (due to hanging of the phone) and I don't really use my phone that much. Anyway, reflashed to AX3L v2.0.8 without the ExtROM and SPB stuff and I've not had a soft reset for 1.5 weeks. Hope this will last.

BTW, not too sure if you guys notice the same thing, but I tried opening the windows folder in my SPB loaded state and it took 15 seconds. Opening it in my non-SPB loaded state takes 3 seconds. It should have something to do with the memory usage. Anyway, AX3L has solved my problems by including a profiles manager in his latest ROM (which was my main use for SPB Phonesuite).

I am using this official WM6 ROM with SPB Weather and SPB Insight and neither has caused any issues. I was previously using AXEL's ROM and didn't have problems either as I stated earlier.

I really don't have any issues with SPB products besides Mobile Shell.

I have a brand new Mogul with WM6 and I am experiencing a memory leak as well. I am trying to track it down and I have discovered that the culprit might be MS Voice Command v1.6. I have it and I notice when it's active, my memory slowly goes down from 13.5MB to about 2MB. But when I deactivate it and reboot, my memory only drops to around 11.5MB. I think that since I have a huge contact list of over 2,000 names, it is somehow scanning and indexing them for a later time when I need to use VC. Try it and let me know if anyone has noticed the same thing. :D
