Noobs beware!
As a number have been flashing their devices with various roms not from their own carrier or country or cooked roms and bricking their device - I put up this sticky. Your device must be cid unlocked first before you do this. This applies to the coming wm6 roms to - if the rom is not specific to your device - i.e. if you try to flash the upcoming htc 3300 wm6 rom on O2 orbit - you must cid unlock first - with imei check or you will end up with a BRICK!

This does not apply if you are only updating the os http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299154 or radio.

cid = country id i.e. locked to that country/language/vendor

If you have flashed your device and not cid unlocked it, your device maybe salvagable if you can get it into bootloader mode.

Hold down the voice speed dial button and soft reset - you should then enter bootloader mode 'multicolored' screen'

If you do, attach device to pc via usb cable (a small usb will appear bottom left of screen) and flash factory rom. (run rom executable or RUU updater from pc) You do not need to be activesynced to do this.

You do need the factory rom for your device and then flash it from bootloader mode. Contact the dealer you bought your phone from or htc denmark.

Its only truely bricked if the bootloader is damaged - if you can get into bootloader mode you can salvage with the factory rom.

Well you need the factory rom from o2 - o2 have not released it so there is a problem. I have not found any links to download this rom or a link to a dumped rom. I will ask others in the team if they know a link and let you know.

Yeah the device goes into the bootloader mode. If you could find out where i can get the factory rom from that would be great. Also if i could have instructions how to upload the rom in the bootloader mode i would really appreciate it.

Yes if you have a uk o2 orbit and you flash the uk wm6 orbit rom it will be fine as long as you can still get into bootloader mode.

Which version of German Rom?

The Version needed is the shiped German WM5 Rom for an unbranded HTC Device in any Version which allows to reflash the device so it can be unlocked with IMEI-Check.

I need an O2 ROM which you can't get for some reason. I have a dumped .BIN file of the ROM but don't know what to do with it.

I am about to contact O2 and see if they can repair it. As this is my fault i am expecting to have to pay for this. Don't know how much though.

I´m new here and I have updated my HTC p3300 withou unlock. Now, I try to flash with the ROM from the link posted on this site but it stops at 2%.
I heard about the UPL and SPL version. I guess that I have a hope at end of the tunnel. Because I can enter on bootloader.
Anybody know where I can find the original ROM ? Or another way to flash with ROMs informed on this forum ?
My IPL and SPL are 1.140000 and 1.140001.
The worst, I´m from Brazil and we don´t have HTC to repair! :(

As far as I know - it is wwe. Yes, i have downloded the factory rom, but when starting it ends to 2%. May be it is just better to see the position my pda blocks. i put the image to this. But i am sure that the rom is in english, doesn't matter that in the start there the letters you can see.
i would be grateful if you see and write your opinion.

the device was bought from china. till now i haven't upgrade the rom so you are probably right.... and it doesn't matter that the software i worked on was in english right ?

Try chinese dopod website or your supplier - not a rom we commonly deal with.

It's not an instantaneous process, it will take about 30-45 minutes.

How do I find ut if my o2 XDA Orbit is CID unlocked?? It is SIM Unlocked since I moved to Fiji Last year and have been using it on the local Vodafone Network.
The reason being, I'm thinking of upgrading it WM6 and don't want a brick in the process.

CID unlock has nothing to do with SIM unlocking.
When your device is CID unlocked you'll see it when you soft reset your device - SPL is 1.11 = you're CID unlocked.

hey, wenever i try to cid unlock my Artemis, i open the file but i always get the error 260. it says it cannot connect however the usb cable is connected properly. i think the phone goes into some kind of mode where the screen goes blank and the only way to get out of that mode is by soft reseting. the active sync stops connecting when this happens and i don't know what to do to make this stop.

Please Help!

Yes it does not work, i tried with the original rom and appears "Checking SD Contents" for 2 minutes and then go to bootloader screen. I'm using a 2gb Kingston MicroSD card, it can be the problem?. Thanks for your help.

If you do, attach device to pc via usb cable (a small usb will appear bottom left of screen) and flash factory rom. (run rom executable or RUU updater from pc) You do not need to be activesynced to do this.....


i have as i stated in other treads a problem my phone suddle couldnt be turned on, only get into boot mode. someone told me that i need original rom that was shipped with my device but i cant find the cd i found the empty paper case for it (like that would help me)

I downloaded original wm 6 and upgrade from offical homepage but it says wrong vendor id or something like that. does anybody know if my device will take the original wm5 rom? (if i would find my cd or the rom another way (tried for many days now)

i flashed my P3300 with AJE rom then i wanted to flash it back with official wm6 rom. At 9% the connection is broken.
RUU asked me to remove the battery and return it again, i do and after that nothing. The P3300 don't want to go on. I press power button, i do soft/hard reset and nothing happened.
I think the phone is bricked.
Can you help me having the phone working again ?

I'm having problems with my 3300 (Arte100). it turns off suddendly and I must restart it over and over. I've tried a Rom upgrade, but when it goes at 2%, it crashes and return me an error like "the device model is wrong".
Could anyone advise me the correct one running WM6?

I have HTC P3300 and it came with WM6 with the following config.

ROM : 3.7.701.1 WWE
ROM date : 6/21/07
Radio : 02.69.90
Protocol : 4.1.13.30
ext Rom : 3.6.707.101

Now i want to upgrade it to WM6.1

I SEARCHED THRU MANY POSTS. i got so many answers to my questions but i have some fundamental questions and if anybody can answer that i will be really obliged.

1) I have vodafone India. Can i flash a ROM which is for another carrier. For eg. when I searched the thread "Artemis_Upgrades" I could not find any HTC WWE factory ROM which matched the above specs. BUT when i saw the factory ROM of DOPOD WM6. It matched the above specs perfectly.
so the basic question is if anything goes wrong in my upgrade then can I flash the DOPOD rom on my HTC

2) I have searched the forums but i could not find a valid factory WM6.1 ROM. If anybody can provide a link then it would be a great help to me. Please also specify which ROM (dopod or any other) is compatible to my HTC.

3) Once i get both the above factory ROMs (WM6 and WM6.1) i will be flashing my HTC and the steps that i would follow is as mentioned in this post

I am new on this system...
I am in possession of an HTC P3300 called Artemis too.
Last week I tried to install a new rom cooked but probably the CID was looked and I didn’t know.
I read that there is a new tool from Mr. POF "Artemis_USPL.zip" but I cannot run because this says to establish a connection with AS but in bootloader mode AS doesn’t see my PDA.
Please help me! I am distraught!

I couldn't run start_uspl.exe in Windows 7 X64 because it said 'unsupported 16 bit application'.

How could I run uspl? or any other way to unlock CID?

I have a T-mobile MDA Compact III model and once I have updated my OS to Artemis Touch 4.0. Since then I cannot install any other ROM. Whenever I try to install, RGB screen appears and after a couple of seconds Update aborts with error code 260 (don't know what is that). My SPL is 1.11.0000. Does anyone know what is the problem and how can it be fixed? Thanks in advance.

When I start the phone, I got the Bootloader mode.
The screen reads

IPL 3.07.0001
SPL 3.07.0000

When I connect the phone via USB Cable to PC, i got the following

The bottom line says 'USB'
The top right corner says 'RUU'

I tried to flash the Original ROM using SDCard, But after fave minute got "SD FAT Update Failed!!!

When I try to run the original 'ROM' using the 'ROM Update Utility', I got the 'Error[226]:FLASH WRITE ERROR

Tell me please... WHAT I DO?

I have finally found a solution for my problem. I found this ROM which helped me solve my problem. This is the only ROM which I was able to install on my T-Mobile MDA Compact III:

I have a bricked device, well sort off I can get into bootloader, but that's all. I managed to borough an identical P3300 from a friend. So I could dump his original ROM and upload into mine.

Could someone please explain how to dump the original ROM for further use?
Or point me to a threat where this is explained since I could not find anything.
