I have been in poland for 10 days and had wanted to use my phone internationally but as soon as I left USA to Europe. I had no service. I was under the assumption that the BA was a Tri-band phone. Is there anyone that has had the same problem using Xplodes new rom and trying to use this phone in europe.? I have the SX66 version and My wife has the i-mate version of the BA. Both have the same problem. I also tried to download several phone band changing cabs somewhere on the forums and they just redered my phone useless and I had to hard reset. I also saw on the forums that someone had written that the change of the GSM frequency was automatic but it does not work as the local carrier would be "ERA-GSM" and i have "No Service". This has ticked me off my whole vacation. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thank You
Rich.
PS. :D I hope people can use this thread to perhaps put any patches or files that may allow our BA's to work in europe. That would be cool as this is my first thread.

thats a very weird problem.
have you done a soft-reset, and then, enabled the phone in the connectivity manager?
i am in europe too, my BA come imported from USA and it is working nicely here.
Or the most probably stuff is:
You forgot to activate the roaming service with your operator, and since you have no roaming service active, you are unable to use your phone outside USA with your USA card, because no network allow it to be registered.

I am back from vacation. I love poland and hope to retire from there. Anyway yes it is true about no roaming service which i do not have. And i thought about that but i tried using a polish sim card also and nothing. Is there a way to change frequencies anyway?

This device is quad-band, it is mandatory for it to work in the entire world...

Nice to hear from a foreigner, that you like Poland :)
About SIM card: you might still have simlock in your BA. I don't think band change is an issue. This must be something more basic. Have you tried to make list of available networks (without logging in) - there should be 3 of them all over Poland (BTW:where have you been in Poland?): Era GSM, Plus GSM and Orange (on older list of operators int might be Idea), and in very rare cases Play Mobile (for sure in case of this one you could see only number, no name, just 260-06).
2nd idea I have is that after switch to WM5 you forgot about soft reset after first boot and GSM module was not yet up.

my blue angel works in europe, both on 900 and 1800Mhz, and of course there was no problem with 1900Mhz...the issue, i think, which was said over, is that you didn't have roaming enabled...

I think you are right jakubd. It may be a sim card issue. But the phone does not say it. Maybe things have changed such because I know I used to use Era GSM Sim cards but it was a new card i bought. If it is a simlock problem how can I use that card in my BA? I am sure I was able to use my mom's T-Mobile card I don't remember but I will check it out and get back. Also My family lives in Bielany, Warszawa. I have been to Zakopane I love it. Next time I go me and my family will go to the seaside.

Since when???? Get your facts straight.
The device is NOT quad band - but it should work in Europe no problems. It could just be a roaming problem like people say. Can you call your provider and ask or are they out of reach?
BTW: You can find out how to unlock the BA in the wiki for free.

Actually the device is quad band - 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900. You can check the spec page for the individual unit.
Here is the link for the PDA2k : http://www.clubimate.com/t-DETAILS_PDA2K.aspx
Here is the link for the SX66 : http://www.mobiledia.com/phones/siemens/sx66.html
Back when I had wm2003 on it, I had built cab that allowed me to change the band setting on the 1.13.00 radio rom.
As for not being able to use it abroad, I had the same issue when I went to aruba. Didn't call to get international roaming enabled and the unit refused to see any cell network. Now that I have it enabled, my SX66 works just about everywhere I go.
