I managed to install Adobe's Flash 7 player for PPC on S710.
The steps are:
1. Install Flash 7 in PPC emulator
2. Export 4 registry keys from HKLM\software\ and register them manually (or import with a registry editor)
3. Download Adobe Flash 6 player and extract flash.dll and copy it to S710
4. Register flash.dll with regsvrce.exe
5. Copy /Windows/Macromedia/flash.dll from PPC emulator and overwrite the Flash 6 version with it on your S710
6. Install Opera 8.65beta for smartphone
Now you can view YouTube. For acceptable quality you have to overclock to 240MHz

Okay, everything you need is in the attachment.
The steps are:
1. Import 4 registry keys from HKLM\software\.. and register them manually (I used MobileRegistryEditor on PC) or import with a registry editor. See screenshots.
2. Copy Windows directory to your smartphone (answer yes to overwrite all)
3. Copy flash.dll from Flash 6 to \Windows\Macromedia on your smartphone
4. Register it with regsvrce.exe (\Windows\Macromedia\flash.dll). Run regsvrce again to see immediately the success "alert"
5. Copy flash.dll from Flash 7 to \Windows\Macromedia and overwrite the Flash 6 version
6. Install Opera 8.65beta for smartphone
7. Soft reset your smartphone (power cycle)

No, after you registered flash 6 it should be sufficient to overwrite it with the flash 7 dll. When and where exactly do you get this error?

I get this error in opera, when trying to view a youtube video....
I also noticed you had the cab file listed in one of the registry entries, do I need to have that in the My Documents directory?
I double checked all my steps, for some reason Opera doesn't know I have the flashplayer installed, maybe thats the problem?

It is essential that flash.dll is correctly registered. Look for the key ".swf" in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT. If it exists after registering, then your okay. Also, after registering the dll check if the version number still is correct:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer]
"CurrentVersion"="7,0,70,0"
My HTC S710 ("VOX") is running WM6 and it registers just fine. You can test and save some typing by putting regsrvce and flash.dll both in "My Documents", then run regsrvce and type "flash.dll".
I fear that on smartphones with WM5 it doesn't work :(
I just tried to register flash.dll in M$ 's WM5 smartphone emulator and it failed. Although regsrvce says it registered flash.dll the registry keys are not created.
What mobile device are you using and what OS is on it?

@sting0r: I'm pretty sure you're doing something wrong. Did you check whether the .swf key is there and whether the version value is still 7,0,70,0 ?
To answer your question, registering the flash7 dll will fail. Registering flash6 works. In fact with flash6 you can already play yourtube.
@kusnier: I'm glad it works for you :)

In Opera I open the keyboard and resize the display down to 25% or 50%.
I can overclock to 254MHz. The default clock of OMAP on Vox is 186MHz.
Glad you got it to work on S710. I'll try to figure out what prevents it to work on other systems.

Yes, most of the Youtube videos are too heavy for PDA/Smartphones. The framerate, bitrate and resolution are too high. But don't worry, there will be plenty of flash video sites for mobile platforms in the near future.
You can improve performance by reducing the display size to 25% or 50%.

ok got it working on the q also. Had to create the registry entries manually because I did not see an import feature. It was too slow playing video from youtube but maybe there is a way to run the Q at its full 312mhz clock. I'm not sure if the cpu scales to demand or not but the included omap.exe app does not work on my Q (maybe because im running wm5). If anyone has any suggestions on how to overclock im all ears.

How do you setup VLC player to stream to your phone? Been trying but it's not working.
Read up on VLC streaming here: http://www.videolan.org/doc/streaming-howto/en/streaming-howto-en.html
I use these params for streaming anything in qood quality to Coreplayer:
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=300,width=320,heig ht=240,fps=15,venc=x264{me=dia,subme=1,analyse=non e,bframes=0,b-adapt=none,chroma-me=none,merange=1},acodec=mp3,ab=32,channels=1}:st d{access=http,mux=ts,url=0.0.0.0:1234}
or even better, and puts less transcoding load on your pc
:sout=#transcode{vcodec=DIV3,vb=350,width=320,heig ht=240,fps=15,acodec=mp3,ab=48,channels=1,samplera te=44100}:std{access=http,mux=ogg,url=0.0.0.0:1234 }
In Coreplayer access the stream with: http://ip_of_your_pc:1234
(streaming via internet works also ofcourse, just open up port 1234 on your fw and forward it to your vlc server and use dyndns or so)

Anyhow, my instructions apply to the case where registering flash.dll causes automatic creation of a large number of keys and where only a few keys need to be entered manually. In your case registering flash.dll doesn't create these keys and you have to find all of them after registering flash.dll in the WM5 PPC emulator. I have never verified if it can be done this way, but I'm pretty sure it will work. It's just a bit more work :)

I actually got this working on my Motorola Q running wm5.
Hi, followed all of jocky's directions and still having issue with Moto Q. Getting a need to update to latest flash/no flash available message from websites. Only step i couldnt figure out was getting the fp7_ppc_en.cab file to run on the moto - is this necessary? I get an error saying that the file was not intended for the device. Do i need a ppc emulator for this? Were there any other steps/tricks with the Q? Was able to register all the files in the other steps and verified w/resco registry. Fairly new to this.

Wonderful :)
I've put a link to it in my top posting.
Thanks!
BTW, in the meantime, I've added a section on installing the DLL on a storage card (as opposed to the built-in memory), along with a new registry import file.

Sorry I took so long, but for some reason it started working! I had all the registry values listed so I don't know what it was. Thanks, though!

Nice that you got it to work. If your intention is to only play YT and Google videos then this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320972) is a much better solution.

I like being able to play games and watch generic flash videos. Yay for overclocking. If I do that solution also, will it interfere with videos from other sites like break or albinoblacksheep?
One more thing...My dash is running at 186mhz instead of 200. Is this normal?
Thanks again man.

Download the file, unzip it and then perform these steps:
0. Copy regsvrc.exe to your smartphone (e.g in My Documents)
1. Import 4 registry keys from HKLM\software\.. and register them manually (I used MobileRegistryEditor on PC) or import with a registry editor. See screenshots.
2. Copy Windows directory to your smartphone (answer yes to overwrite all)
3. Register \Windows\Macromedia\flash.dll with regsvrce.exe . Run regsvrce again to see immediately the success "alert"
4. Copy flash.dll from Flash 7 to \Windows\Macromedia and overwrite the Flash 6 version
5. Install Opera 8.65beta for smartphone
6. Soft reset your smartphone (power cycle)
Can't help you if this is not clear enough.

Now you can view YouTube. For acceptable quality you have to overclock to 240MHz
Have fun,
JockyW

okay i have an orange e650 version of the htc vox.
i did exactly like it is described, step by step and succeedeed BUT since i did that, on youtube or some other page with flash elements, my web browser (ie or opera) begins to load and display the page, but hangs quickly, and becomes unusable when it begins to load the flash elements : i cannot scroll down or up, i can't click on anything. the browser stops to respond. and even in the task manager the browser is invisible and unkillable (but i see it is running because of its memory usage). and my phone is very slow to respond also.
only solution = remove/replace the battery :(
so please give me a step by step solution to make it work or at least to revert all this and make my browsers run normally even if it means not displaying the flash objects.
thank you
edit :
after writing this above, i unregistred the flash dll and rebooted my phone. now the problem is still here with youtube (loads 10Ko on youtube startpage and then hangs :( and becomes unusable/unstoppable) but on http://www.anim-fx.com/ for example, all is fine, i can navigate, scroll, and view the flash animations. strange but what is wrong with youtube on my "vox" ?

1, welcome to xda-dev :)
2, do NOT use the flash plug-in for YouTube playback. See my related YouTube articles (for example http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=320962 ) for a much better way of playing back YouTube video.

1, did you follow my tutorial at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=323651 ?
2, for YouTube, do NOT use the plug-in, but standalone solutions.

I was reading earlier posts, sounds like moderate success. Is the process similar for the WM6 Q9h? Thanks! I don't want to go ahead and start changing registry keys to find the OS difference Bricks the phone.....:)

What does regsvrce.exe do? Does it create a reg key? I need to know, because if, I could add it to a ROM via OEM-Package! Thanks :)
