View Full Version : Charging/Accessing Atom Exec w/o installing the driver

I've found that my atom exec doesn't charge when the computer doesn't recognize the device. The problem is, while I'm surfing the net in the computer lab during breaks, my phone won't charge when connecting through usb. Of course, the admin had blocked everything from installing hardware/software, registry editing, to blocking every port except 80 and whatever port for MSN Messenger (I have to use proxy through port 80 as a workaround).

Is there a way to force my phone to charge? (If it denies to charge) Or is there a way to force the pc to supply power through the usb cable (If the pc doesn't, because it doesn't recognize the device).

And is there anyway to access my Atom Exec just like a flash drive that doesn't require any driver installation? (I think it is possible in Zinc with a few taps since it supports card reader mode natively.)

Thanks in advance.

The USB port has a direct power supply from the MB has nothing to do with drivers. Its a safe bet that the USB port has been disconnected on th inside. Sorry mate no software workarounds for this

I think you'll find that an atom will not charge on a windows PC without drivers.

Plug an atom in without activesync... it does bugger all. Install activesync and hey presto it begins charging.

Windows will not turn on the power on USB port until some driver is installed.

There is a kind of workaround for this - install software such as WM5torage or CardExport to make PocketPC act as "generic USB disk device". If USB flash disk usage is allowed, your atom will connect as disk and charge without activesync.

OMG. WM5torage is what I was looking for. Thank you so much.
