View Full Version : 'T-Mobile Wing' WM6 OS dump

Here's a PRODUCTION 'T-Mobile Wing' WM6 OS dump in it's imgfs_raw_data form.

I recommend using ImgfsTools2rc2b to reconstruct the NB, which you may then be able to flash on a P4350 using the awizard tools... until such time as someone produces a Hermes / Trinity style custom bootloader / RUU.

I don't have a P4350 here to test unfortunately.

Hey,
This is really cool that we've finally got some progress on the wm6 scene for the herald. Anyways i own an HTC P4350 (herald) so could you like tell me how to flash this onto my device by converting your data to OS.nb etc etc.

Thanks

ImgfsTools2rc2b:

How to create the NB:

- Get a regular P4350 RUU, extract using WinRAR, find RUU-signed.nbh
- Use NBHextract to get the OS NB file
- Use NBsplit to split this file
- Use IMGFStoNB to create the new payload file
- Use NBmerge to create the new NB

How to flash a NB to the P4350 using awizard:

YOU DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. It might work, it might not. You should be able to flash the regular P4350 RUU back on if all else fails (hopefully).

I can cook a NB, no problem, but is there a way to flash unsigned files on the Herald?

Since only the OS partition is being flashed, there shouldn't be a bricking danger.

I am prepared to be a tester, i dont know much about ROM cooking though but I know enough to test....

When cooking the ROM will you be using the extRom from T-mobile or just the OS?

Presumably you will not include any IPL or SPL?

Also worth noting is I have 5.04.0001 IPL and 5.04.0000 SPL from the latest ROM.

What is the IPL & SPL of the Wing?

sorry, just downloaded the zip, what is in there is only a part of what you need for wm6 to boot.

the imgfs partition (which is there) contains all the files and registry etc

the XIP partition (which is missing) contains the kernel and information on how to boot to the OS.

whithout the XIP (found in .nb and .nbh's) this thing will never boot.

and no the WM5 xip wont work.

Flashing an unsigned ROM / Backup didnīt work for my German P4350.

Mine is stuck at the Bootloader for now, so please be sure of how you get things done. I Donīt want anyone to be in that **itty situaton of having to wait for the official Romupdate. ( There is no published German one by now )

Maybe this is different with WWE roms ? I dont know exactly...

Is there somewhere I can read up on all of this? I've been looking all over this site but I can't really seem to find any kind of "faq" into all of this. I just dont know where to get started on it...?

So please wait until the official WM6 release in June. You can read in wizard forum for example - nearly same device. BUT herald forum is just growing in the moment when Tmob-wing was released. So please wait a little bit.

Daniel, i wouldn't suggest this for you !

I think that someone with WM5 should try first ...who knows what G4-like preotections they put on the Terra

It's easy to translate. Just use the XIP from papamopps and the bin from the WWE.
I got it working on the Wizard .. just now...still got changes to do but hey, it started..

Hehe - that is the problem. There is no real dump from an G4 Wm6 herad rom. It only dumps OS - no SPL/IPL no Radio nothing - jsut an OS.
And btw - the os.nba in awizard/rom isn´t recognized - i cannot flash because i cannot choose the rom to write.

aWizard (http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=26038&d=1138056282)

2) Copy the OS.nb to awizard ROM folder and rename it to.nba
3) From the Lib folder of awizard, transfer enable rapi and certsps cabs to yr device and install them.
4)Now run the batch file and select "e" to enable rapi.
5) Then you can directly choose the option "w".This will give you the option to choose the ROM u want.Select and wait till awizard finishes.

BTW remember - the last extended rom of an official t-mobile rom from wizard had 9mb - and now o2 and tmob only have 2mb. it is not much. For example the O2 branding for GPRS is included in rom. even if you donīt let the extrom install.

i dont know if this has been said before, but you should know that some versions of branded roms, lack certain features.
for example many operators prefer that you download ringtones through their network instead of using mp3 ringtones. therefore, mp3 ringtones are disabled sometimes.

the o2 terra has the wm6 sip client removed for similar reasons. o2 wants their customers to use their gsm network, instead of wifi.

i will certainly wait until HTC releases an official unbranded version of wm6, since i dont want to miss out on any features.

Hello Midget
The reasn why one cannot see the Rom in awizard is due to the size of the rom, os.nb u need to have os.nb with size exactly that of a wizaed os.nb and i guess this os.nb is some short of 100 mb.
So if u can rethink on this and make os.nb I can try.
I also tried the exisitng os.nb with shell tool.It flashes but herald doesn't show even the rom vrsion while booting(of course it didn't boot)

i believe the .ink links to an .htm file. which does nothing but gives directions on how to operate the myfaves app. so far i extracted all files starting with 'myfaves' and 'my5' and put it in the /windows folder and ran the .exe file. the error said it needed a service to run. so i ran the my5service.exe file and then tried to run the .exe for myfaves and got the same error.

Yes the rom i was talking over - which i wanted to cook was produced with this kitchen.

It is a fantastic work. you can use the .bin from wing dump or the os.nb from terra dump and put the xip to it.

it worked for me - until i forgot to put the boot.rgu into hv files folder. after that my device got bricked - because the boot.rgu wasnīt converted.

It's actually not all the difficult to do. I dumped the bin file from the first post and then created a new os.nb by merging that dumped bin with Aserg's os.nb. I'm new to all of this as well so I can't really explain why but it just seemed the most logical way to do it. After all that I have a new os.nb that is as close to the t-mobile wing as I suppose you can get at this point without an official rom. I'm now in the process of poking through the oem folders to see what I can take out as I don't really want all that extra stuff t-mobile puts in there. Hope that helps.

No it wasn´t corrupted - but there wasn´t a safe way to flash and after someone bricked the device by using my dump i deleted it - so just use it. It has 62MB.

You used ImgfsToDump to dump the Wing bin file from the first post?
For the rest of the operation, you used the Pro ROM Kitchen?

Any more details you can provide on the process will save us poor souls many hours of experimenting and perhaps even from bricking our little devices!

I'll try to detail out exactly what I did. The rom kitchen was used for every single step. The directions provided with the program are not comprehensive but done well enough that you can figure most of it out.

1). Use the extract tool and choose "dump from bin" and dump the wing os bin posted on the first page. This dumped the contents to a directory in xdump.
2). After this "pkgtool" will run to separate out the sys and oem folders.
3). Move the contents of "xdump" (which should be the sys and oem folders and maybe a couple other files) into the "kitchen" folder.
4). Place the XIP folder and Aserg's os.nb, both of which are found in this thread, into the "ROM" folder. Aserg's os.nb will have to be renamed, check for details in the rom kitchen help file.
5). This is the step where cooks can delete/add stuff but I wouldn't recommend it your first time through.
6). Run "Build" and it should automatically create your new os.nb. We don't need to do any of the conversion afterwards because we can just put this os.nb in place of Aserg's os.nb and use his method to flash.

Please read through the rom kitchen's help manual as well as Aserg's help file for flashing the herald and make sure you understand exactly what you have to do. If you don't have an unbranded Herald it may be difficult to recover from a bricked device. I bricked my device several times before getting it but luckily I have an unbranded Herald so I could just flash an official WM5 WWE back on. Lastly, do this at your own risk, this worked for me but may not work for others.

On another note. It seems I've managed to take out most of T-mobile's branded things using the rom kitchen. The resulting os.nb is about 7 mb smaller then Aserg's os.nb. However the weird thing is when I load it on I don't see that extra 7 mb of free storage space. It doesn't look like the storage space changed at all. Is the amount of space coded somewhere that I need to change? Thanks.

Asergs WWE is not a real good work. Sorry - haven´t done it better. But there are many missing files and so on.

So please share the cooked Wing ROM - for all others.

ANd teh kitchen uses Tadzios for compressing - therefore it is better compressed and smaller.

Alright here is the OS.nb generated from the Wing OS and Aserg OS. Note to others, please don't use this unless you know what you are doing and have a way to recover from a bricked device. This worked for me but may not work for others.

Also, I know why the os.nb is smaller and like I said, the cooked rom I produced is about 7 mb smaller then the original. What I don't understand is why that extra 7 mb does not show up in my free storage space. It still shows that I only have 30mb free storage. Looking at the offsets and distances compared to the Hermes WM6 rom it looks like the pagepool from this os.nb is at 37B55A. Any cooks want to confirm this? I'll give it a shot later and see what comes up. If that is indeed the address then we have a 12 mb pagepool which sounds about right for the amount of program memory we have.

We don't need to do any of the conversion afterwards because we can just put this os.nb in place of Aserg's os.nb and use his method to flash.

i know someone might not know the exact answer but since my device isn't CID Unlocked and I'm using the wing dump (extracted the OEM & Sys folders out of it) , would this allow me to still flash back to my WIng since I used the original wing dump without having my device CID Unlocked? I'm also going to post this in the development thread for the kitchen, my rom is just about done, i didn't cook anything, just followed xander's exact directions and its coming out good, imma package it up soon with some programs , etc.

So I've managed to change the pagepool size to 4mb (the address posted earlier is correct) and I'm not so sure this is the best thing to do. Here are the numbers upon reset with no today plugins:

Total: 51.90
Free: 27.74

The amount of free memory is nice but I've noticed some strange behavior such as the today screen plugins not refreshing and phone intermittently losing signal. I'll test it a little bit more or perhaps bump it up to 6 or 8.

Do all the files belong in the \Windows directory (other the *.lnk files which belong in \Windows\Start Menu\Programs)?

Are you able to see if there are in registry entries that have my5 or myfaves in them?

Thanks.

i believe the .ink links to an .htm file. which does nothing but gives directions on how to operate the myfaves app. so far i extracted all files starting with 'myfaves' and 'my5' and put it in the /windows folder and ran the .exe file. the error said it needed a service to run. so i ran the my5service.exe file and then tried to run the .exe for myfaves and got the same error.

But when I flash back to Shiped-ROM, everything is OK.

How to flash (Start @ step 2)

I would help, when i know an aswer. BUT sorry - i donīt have an idea.

For wizard user - all Radiorom work with WM6. Donīt know why it doesnīt work for herald.

And - no - until now there is no way flashing the radiorom only.

Normally all .nb files are integrated in the RUU_signed.nbh - OS.nb, SPL.nb, Radio.nb - but we only can flash a OS.nb with Asergs way.

WHen there once will be a modified Bootloader - like on Hermes and the modRUU - we can flash radio also.

Letīs cross fingers for the futer.

SOorry.

Try to go back with official WM5 and wait until official WM6 upgrade.

After that and a new Radiorom and a new IPL/SPL you can start cooking WM6 again. But then all other is upgraded by official way

But Herald_HTC_RUS_5.4.411.2, O2 Tera ROM-Dump and ASerg's ROM make C800 GSM error (Data crash or IOCLT..LOCK... not found).

And, I think the problem isn't related to Radio.

I can confirm that the problem is most definitely due to the Radio version. I unlocked my Dopod C800 which didn't work with WM6 earlier (same Radio searching forever problem) with IMEI-check.co.uk and upgraded the Radio to 2.79 using the HTC updater and lo and behold, WM6 works on my Herald!

Yes, I used the WWE_5.4.405 ROM and did a complete upgrade using the RUU. That's the only known way from what I have checked in the forums to flash the Radio.

I had no difficulty unlocking using imei-check but I was mindful of your previous post that the CID unlock didn't work for you. I only took a chance because the unlock program was named ver 2! Perhaps you should download the program from imei-check again and see if this is the version you originally used.

Have you tried to flash other ROMs??

The unlocking process worked fine for me udner vista - but i cannot flash another ROM than the German because of Vendor-ID and this should NOT be when the unlock process really works.

And i have a TERRA - WM6. Not a HTC P4350 or Herald. Perhaps that is the problem with Imei.check.

Yes, I did flash other ROMs. I have a Dopod C800 and I flashed a HTC ROM onto it without problems. If there's a Wing or Terra RUU that comes out, I am sure, I'd be able to flash that.

Incidentally, I tried to unlock using the imei-check program on Vista but the phone just stayed in the intermediate white screen stage so I tried it on a XP system and it worked.

I think the problem with your unlock might have been the older version of the unlock program. Since you have paid for the unlocking, I'm sure you can again try to unlock once you get your phone back from service.

since some users here had a Dopod c800 and flashed there device, and it worked besides the fact that the radio kept searching, does this mean, Aserg's method works on any device, CID Unlocked or not? Yes, Aserg's method will work on any Herald, CID unlocked or not - It will successfully upgrade the OS. However, WM6 won't work with an older Radio so it will keep searching if you upgrade the OS. And there is no known way to upgrade the Radio without using an official RUU... and to use an official RUU other than from your device manufacturer, you need to unlock CID through IMEI-check in the UK.

So you're saying that I could flash my T-mobile Wing with another, possibly upgraded OS? Because with my wizard, I could cook my own rom and only install what I wanted, change out the boot screen, removed all the unneeded extras, etc. Let me ask you this too. With T-Mobile, I can call up and get my phone unlocked after a certain amount of time. Now, if it's sim unlocked, what do I have to do to CID unlock? Does the one code take care of everything?

No- CID unlock is an method that will kill any garuanty. It is not really legal. But when it is CID-unlocked you can flash ANY rom. like on wizard. But it is dangarous for wing and terra user - because for unbricking you need teh official WING RUU. And till now there is no.

You can call up T-Mobile and get your unlock code for free. Since i've had T-Mobile in July, i've unlocked about 4 phones including the T-Mobile Dash. This weekend, i'm going to get the code for the Wing.

And be sure to read up before you try loading the rom. It would be nice to have a Wing tester though if you don't mind the high risk of you bricking your device but it would be appreciated by the community as the tester lol. Your decision.
