Noobs beware!
As a number have been flashing their devices with various roms not from their own carrier or country or cooked roms and bricking their device - I put up this sticky. Your device must be cid unlocked first before you do this. This applies to the coming wm6 roms to - if the rom is not specific to your device - i.e. if you try to flash the upcoming htc 3300 wm6 rom on O2 orbit - you must cid unlock first - with imei check or you will end up with a BRICK!

This does not apply if you are only updating the os http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=299154 or radio.

cid = country id i.e. locked to that country/language/vendor

Bricked devices

If you have flashed your device and not cid unlocked it, your device maybe salvagable if you can get it into bootloader mode.

Hold down the voice speed dial button and soft reset - you should then enter bootloader mode 'multicolored' screen'

If you do, attach device to pc via usb cable (a small usb will appear bottom left of screen) and flash factory rom. (run rom executable or RUU updater from pc) You do not need to be activesynced to do this.

Hi Folks,

Firstly many thanks for everyone's freely given time! Great Forum!

There seems to be a lot of confusion about who and what can be flashed with the German official ROM and then with Bepe's creation.

Can we try to clear some of the ambiguity for us simple folk? Might stop some of the repeated questions littering threads in both related artemis sections.

So, many thanks to anyone who can clarify the situation by providing definitive answers to the following questions!

(1) Can an 02 Orbit from, say, the UK or Holland be flashed with either the German and/or Bepe's ROM, even if it is CID Locked (i.e. same devcie and carrier, different country).

(2) Can a non-Orbit O2 device be flashed with either the German or bepe's ROM, even if it is CID Locked (i.e. different devcie but same carrier).

(3) Is there a fall back Rom available for non-German O2 Orbits should the upgrade fail?

cid = country id i.e. locked to that country/language/vendor thats why cid needs unlocking before flashing diff any of aboves roms.

My HTC has no vendor since I can use all SIMs from different vendors, now I upgraded from HTC Spanish version to HTC WWE version, so Vendor and Language (plus location?) locks are disabled?

Hello,
I would like to Upgrade my O2 XDA Mini S with Windows Mobile 6 (localized / German version). I hardly searched for such a WM6 Upgrade but there seems to be no final version for my device and german language.

I figured out that there is an WM6 OS Upgrade for the XDA Orbit and XDA Trion (coming soon). Might it be possible to flash only an OS-ROM for WM6 extracted from one of these O2 ROM updates? I was able to extract the OS-Image and I already backed up my current ROM using aWizard. aWizard also supports flashing a single OS-ROM only.

Some people in this forum already said I might brick my device. Is it possible or not to flash the OS ROM? Is it risky to give it a try?

Do you know a final working German Upgrade for the XDA Mini S (Qtek 9100)?

Hello

I am in Bootloader mode right now and I started the updater but it says it can't connect. I see the device in Windows and my Artemis says it sees a USB connection (it says "USB" on the bottom of the screen in the white stripe).

What do I have to do for it to start working for a change?

I think I found the problem: First, it would be wise to close mtty ;). Then it is important to reboot and after entering Bootloader mode to connect USB not while booting. After trying it a dozen times it suddenly worked.

Please, could someone explain how I can unlock the CID with USPL? It starts the batch, when it's done I have a black screen with the Linux penguin and it says loaded. When the RUU tries to connect, though, the device doesn't respond. So I take it the process doesn't actually get finished...

Just to inform you guys that i tried the USPL Method 3 times and always got an error message UPDATE ERROR (i think it was error number 270 ??).

Well, that was because after the DOS mode went until 100, and the dialog box for the ROM Update Utility appeared, this dialog box ask to wait for the PDA to be activesynced before presing the "UPDATE", so i was waiting for the PDA to reconnect to activesync (while in a black screen mode) before pressing update . THAT was the mistake. Don't wait for it to RE connect to activesync (strange right ?) and just press the NEXT and UPDATE without waiting anything.
THEN it worked i just upgrade to WM6 without VENDOR ID error anymore thanks to the USPL method :)

Fucked up my artemis with this rom by upgrading stucks in loading mode WM6 screen. Can access bootloader but it always tell me upgrading again that i have the wrong rru....

Last night I flash my Dopod M700 to WM6 but after reboot it only enter to the boot flash screen showing IPL SPL 1.11 OS 3.7 etc......

I did unlock the CID but the flashing of WM6 seems not ok.

Then I enter to the bootloader mood and flash the WWE WM5.0 of HTC M700 rom. It did turn the M700 back to WM5.0 and then I flash it with WM 6.0 again.

However, I forgot to unlock CID again before flashing. Then now the device stuck in the boot screen with SPL 1.28 OS 3.7 etc......

I still can enter to bootloader mood, but I have tried to heal the device by flashing it with the WWE WM 5.0 rom of HTC M700 again. But it cannot be flashed again!!!! Error message came out that the rom is not for my device!!

Help!!!!!!!!!

the WWE rom of WM5 is a factory rom for dopod M700 but my device is taiwan version (traditional Chinese) WM 5.0 (since I have searched for the traditional chinese wm5 factory rom for two days, but no luck).

Now my dopod M700 is dead!!!!

It stuck on the boot screen showing IPL 1.28.001, SPL 1.25.0000, GSM 02.69.90, OS 3.7.0.0

Help! How can I heal my M700???

I want to ask something about the unlocking of CID, is it possible to make a micro-SD flashing version for that? since the unlocking of CID procedure need the help of ActiveSync, but now my dopod M700 cannot boot into wm and so it cannot be detected by ActiveSync. is there someone can write a micro-SD card to flash the device so that the CID can be unlocked??

That is why it will not flash then - different country code and your device is cid locked. You need the factory rom or send your device back to where you bought it for reflashing or send it to imei check. I do not think uspl can be carried out via sd card but pof would be the one to contact for the definitive awnser. Is not dopod releasing a wm6 rom for your device in your country code soon? If yes wait for that - it should restore your device.

my htc is brick now
i can not update his original rom because i have the wrong one (i need the one with the german languaghe for the t-mobile mda)
when i try to update it with the rom givven to me here he begins the prosses of rom updateding and cant pass the 2% by saying "ERROR 294: INVILED VENDOR ID"
at that point the htc restarts and got stuck again at the begining in the white screen with the t-mobile logo by writing:

You're right -only thing you can do now is flash with original rom or return to dealer. If wm6 released for your device you can flash that as well.

Did you flash uspl? - from your spl nos it looks like you did. If so you can flash via bootloader - connect device to pc via usb cable - a 'usb' should appear bottom left of screen - start rom update utility. If you are cid unlocked then flash any rom if not it has to be factory rom. Some bootloaders dont allow flashing from sd card.

Hi, i am pretty clueless when it comes to upgrading. (now we have got that out of the way)
I am trying to understand this though.

i have a htc P3300 Uk version rom 1.14.405.1 WWE (i hope this is enough info) wm5

I would like to upgrade it to wm6 but on the htc site is saw no such upgrade.

here is saw this; is this an upgrade to wm6 if so is this official and can i just upgrade it without any other things first?? and if it is official why is it not yet on HTC.com

I'm bit confused from this thread. I managed to upgrade my Czech O2 XDA Orbit WM5 with official O2 UK WM6 rom downloaded from their pages without any CID unlocking. But from what i read in this thread it shouldn't be possible. Could anybody explain me how is it possible? The WM6 ROM is working fine with my phone, only problem which i have is that sometimes i don't see shortcuts on today screen properly or icons in start menu disapear and there is just small blank window like when u don't have assigned icon, but i think this is bug in ROM.

It was likely your cid from your old wm5 rom was the same as uk one - unusual but only explanation.
If you upgrade to cooked rom you still must uspl did unlock.
I used offical uk wm6 rom - did not have those issues you describe - so try reflashing it.

Can you get into bootloader mode and do you get usb bottom left? Which rom are you trying to flash? Is it the factory rom for your device ?

Try uspl cid unlocking again - your spl needs to be 1.11.0000 before you can flash a cooked rom.

Try uspl cid unlocking again - your spl needs to be 1.11.0000 before you can flash a cooked rom.

I have the same problem . I does uspl cid unlocking again.
but it does not work . I have artemis touch 1.0 wwe rom. at this moment. I want upgrade to touch 2.1 wwe!

I have the same problem . I does uspl cid unlocking again.
but it does not work . I have artemis touch 1.0 wwe rom. at this moment. I want upgrade to touch 2.1 wwe!
Please help me?

Did you try downloading uspl from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=311403

use instead of my step 1 sometimes helps

disable firewall and antiviral as well, make sure activesync is 4.5

have tried many times w/o success it shows 270 image file corrupted during updating. But it works w/ cid uspl.
Any help please.

I have the above specs for my HTC P3300 and tried to install the unlock (uspl, I still need help on this it would very welcomed to point me to the right direction) , anyway I have put by “mistake” the version p3300_WM6_0.4.2.1_GR_Version.exe, fatal mistake my phone become “brick” it keeps going in circles, up until the boot windows screen the message above and restart again, I couldn’t even got into the boot loader screen, I was desperate but by good fortune I ve tried everything (I cant really help you on this but try to hold the power button + the voice button + reset , probably hold the first two and the press and release the soft reset (try for many times it happens).
Anyway after some attempts to put the original rom in (ART_HTCWWE_11240501_026790_WWE_Ship.exe) to no avail then I put the .nbh file from the original to the rar extracted folder of the p3300_WM6_0.4.2.1_GR_Version.exe and change the .nbh file of the original to the name that had the GR version , it worked I have saved some serious euros, the reason that I am posting this is in case I can help someone with the same problem.

Can anyone help me with the unlock matter ? please if you can send some directions to my mail Manollis@gmail.com

Application is 16bit, Vista has no support anymore for 16bits applications, just 32 en 64

Hi,
i have this O2 orbit wm6 (originaly updated with o2 wm6 without doing CID unlock).
IPL 3.04.0000
SPL 3.04.0001
GSM 02.67.90
OS 3.4.0.0

so i flashed this USPL and it went 100% fine and phone went blackscreen and gave me some "log file error .... int completed". on my pc the rom update wizard came up and after 5 mins it gave me error "device not connected".

i reset the device and disconnect it from pc. phone is OK. but im bit scared to continue with USPL.

please tell me wot went wrong. if i run the startuspl.exe again will it be alright?

please help

PS i want to unlock cid to flash the touchflow wm6

I have just got the MDA from T-Mobile and would like to know if there is a specific ROM file that I can flash for T-Mobile Germany that will give me english on my phone? right now my wife is pissed that it is only german and will not switch to english.

Before you flash again with a non-factory rom, your device MUST be cid unlocked.

If you cannot enter bootloader mode your bootloader has been damaged and your device will need to be sent away for repair.

Hi thx for the thread for save the bricked Artemis, I have only 2 days with my XDA Orbit, its unlocked because i`m using it with a sim card from Claro Peru, but I want to flash with another rom.
I download the factory rom of O2 Orbit WM5 but the link of O2 Orbit WM6 is dead, can you reupload please.

I'm a little confused.

If I flash my rom with an official O2 rom upgade through activesync everything works ok. However If I try tocid unlock I loose my active sync connection then get a connection error.

I have a Orbit O2 with wm6 Uk (WWE) can I just flash with any other WWE rom?

I tried that but still no go.....please help ... I cant get out of the HTC logo screen which says OS 3.13.0.0 in RED (((( Hi All... I didnt notice and i tried to run (([9/4/08] ARTEMIS TOUCH 4.02 WM6.1 WWE ROM, 5.2.19199 SDHC (Full, Lite and Vanilla) )) this ROM on HTC touch and its got stuck on HTC logo screen and says OS 3.13.0.0 .... Please help me... i have tried to restart and tried what ever possible but nothing is working it comes back to same screen...Please help ...please))))

I actually impress myself that I actually understand the language of 'cooking ROMs' etc

Just to make it simple for us mear mortals would it be a good idea to do a guide to what phones can be upgraded with what ROMs?

As in an 'O2 XDA Orbit bought in the UK' can be upgraded with ****ROM

Or is this a too simple way of looking at it?

hi people,

For those with problems regarding 2nd stage of USPL, just connect you phone by active sync in guest mode.
this worked for me.

Guys i have successfully BRICKED my htc 3300.i bought it here in italy 2 months ago,its italian language.i wanted to change it to english,so i tried using arte uspl first,but after reaching 100% in dos, i soft reset my device,thought it was done already.voila! it goes directly to BOOTLOADER showing:
IPL 1.12.0001
SPL 1.12.0000
thats it....i tried flashing it with a lot of roms but it never got past 3%,then it shows error like, INVALID VENDOR ID.prior to this i have wm5 italian.any chance you have an original rom for this or ideas to fix this,PLEASE I NEED YOU HELP.GOD BLESS
