The FINAL ABSOLUTE NO BUGS HTC Universal WM6 ROM
Sorry - had to split it into 3 parts - webserver has a bit of a bug...
Here are the parts:
http://vidmes.com/Uni/final/part1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/announcement.php?f=357)
http://vidmes.com/Uni/final/part2 (http://wiki.xda-developers.com)

Now that you have opened the links in the above post you will have the 3 most important pages\tools in the Xda Dev Forums..
In case you don't know what they are, the links go to:
Midget_1990's announcement (on the top of this section of the forum) <<< Read the announcement carefully
The Wiki (Click on the picture of the Universal to go to the Universal section)
Searching Xda Dev via Google (a bit better than the forum's search tool)
(and if you didn't click on the links - do so!)
How to's
Installing a ROM
Grab the ROM. Usual places are:
Xda Dev FTP's Uploads (Username:xda Password:xda) (ftp://xda:xda@ftp.xda-developers.com/Uploads/Universal/)
TehPenguin's Mirror (http://vidmes.com/Uni)
RapidShare
WM-Gurus (You need to be a member - DO NOT sign up unless you ARE a guru...)
Read the ROM's ReadMe file (if it has one)
Install the latest version of ActiveSync on your computer
Disconnect your Universal
Get your Universal into Bootloader mode (I'll let you search the wiki for that...)
Connect your Universal (and allow new drivers to install (XP will complain, but just hit 'Continue'))
Follow the instructions that came with the ROM (you don't need to Soft Reset or get into bootloader - we've already done that)
Submitting a Bug Report
Ensure that you have tested every possible fix (Remember: This is a DEVELOPMENT community...)
Search for other fixes or tweaks that you could try (on the wiki, in other sections of the forum)
Find the correct thread (for the ROM version you are using, or the type of bug)
Give as much details as possible. Such as:
Type of Universal (JasJar, Exec, Dopod, etc)
The nature of the bug - being descriptive (ask yourself: "Will people understand what I am saying?")
Any software on your Universal that may be cause the error (or you believe is involved)
If the bug involves your PC (eg syncing issues) - The OS (XP, Vista, Linux(??)) that the PC is running and any software that may be involved (eg ActiveSync Version xx, Office 2003, etc)
Exceptions: If it is a common bug, over different ROMs, then you are permitted to create a new thread (eg for the Bluetooth headsets malfunctioning...)
Dealing with n00bs
BE POLITE (they may, one day, grow into contributing members... or even developers!)
Find the correct answer to their question (keep reading... it gets better)
DO NOT GIVE THEM DIRECT LINKS
Give them the link to the search page with the results. Why?
They will learn how to spot a relevant result
They will learn correct search terms
It prevents them from becoming lazy
If the result is hard to spot, give them a clue (eg it contains the words "Attachements: bubblefixV2.cab")
Encourage them to learn and share their knowledge (such that they will learn the pain of n00b questions)
Insert a link to this thread, shouting the praises of the "Ultimate, Bug Free" Rom you found...
Extra information / FAQ
Will this ROM work on my iPaq x2932/Asus 454323/Nokia 5110 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nokia_5110)/etc...
NO! This is the forum for the HTC Universal - rebranded as the O2 Xda Exec, I-Mate JasJar, Dopod 900, QTek 9000, etc - The ROMs are specific for these devices and will not work (without serious hacking) on any other device!
I tried flashing - now my Universal doesn't work!!
Reset it in bootloader (hold power + backlight button, now press the reset button), try to resinstall the ROM with my instructions above. If this fails, try a different ROM, if that fails - search the forums
I are tri instl bt hedset 4 mms... no work... fail!... plz help? not work? k thnx
WHAT???? Firstly, SPEAK ENGLISH! Exceptions are made for those who don't speak english as a first language - but this is a forum, not MSN or IRC, so t-a-k-e y-o-u-r t-i-m-e and construct logical sentences. This gives a good impression on those who may help you and makes it easier for non-english speakers (and sometimes those that do speak english) to understand what is going on
My installation of Obscure-Pocket-App-Noone-Has-Heard-Of-Before(TM) doesn't work!
Welcome to the world of upgrading. Try to see if the company has produced a new version, or if there is an alternative. Otherwise downgrade back to WM5...
Finally - if you read nothing else, at least read this:
This a forum of Developers - all things on here are Betas and are (no offence to the find people that make them) full of bugs
If you require a stable device stick to the latest WM5 official release from your provider
Also, upgrading the firmware to a non-official version voids the warranty - SO BEWARE THE RISKS AND USE ROMS CAREFULLY
- And one last thing: Welcome to the Xda-Developers forum!!
(ps. I make no apologise - those that are experienced enough not to need to read this should be happy to see it exists, those that are inexperienced need to read this anyhow)
(pps. Just some stats: at the time of posting Midget's announcement had just over 800 views, whereas the ROM threads had (much) more than 20 000 each - this is just one justification for this post)

"Cruel" is some of the n00b questions that we have to put up with (just have a look at THIS thread - the number of people that believe that the ROM is real!)
Can you explain:

No, I will not explain - but you're welcome to PM me with your guesses :P

Are you in advertising ?
As I understand, most if not all rom makers enjoy the attention and maybe even adoration they receive.
This, to me is proven by "handing" out their work and asking for replies, in an open forum community.
Therefore they could / should also expect some very silly noob questions.
(I think even the rommakers were ones Noobs themselves)
Don't get me wrong, I really appreciate the marvelous work they do, and they deserve every praise they get for that.
But please don't wine.

Dear Sir, I think that he is simply trying to highlight the extensive amount of knowledge and tools available to anyone, including those of us who have a lot of experience.
What is frustrating the devs is that people new to the forums simply don't use this info, it covers everything.
I appreciate this little bit of humour even if for a minute I really thought that there might be something new to play with this evening ....

I am IN any one of the threads and click the "Search this thread" and get a little search box for entering the search parameter or "Advanced Search".
No matter what I put in this text field, I NEVER get a result. EVER. Even if I go to the top navigation bar and try to search all forums I never ever get a result.
Is there a special trick to making this stupid thing work!?!?!

When you say you never get a result, I assume you mean you don't find what you were looking for.
In which case, you are not searching for the right thing. Try searching for a different term someone else may use to describe the same thing.
Either that, or you're simply crap at the internet, or computers.
Sometimes it's the latter, and people should just get a Mac and a Palm.
This forum is for developers, and technically minded people, most have not got the time, or will to baby step complete novices through the most simple of processes simply because people have no ambition to learn how to do something by reading the wiki themselves, and through trial and error.
Then there's the non-english speaking members, and while they are welcome, they should understand this is an english speaking site, and all the help posts, and documentation is in english. Perhaps they should find someone that they know who can speak it to help them, rather than post hundreds of cryptic questions that appear to be stupid to the more astute members.
Either way, I get the feeling this thread has been totally lost on most people.
It's not a joke, it's not a fake, it's simply a headline to grab people's attention, and make them read the info already on this site to stop dumbass people from asking dumbass questions.

Try something else on your search.
eg.
Try searching for "Universal". If you still don't get a result (which is impossible).. then it could be your browser, browser settings.. or something. I never had a problem with the "Search" feature.

Either way, I get the feeling this thread has been totally lost on most people.
Then, it failed to achieve whatever goal it was meant to achieve. It did p!ss people off, though.
It's not a joke, it's not a fake, it's simply a headline to grab people's attention, and make them read the info already on this site to stop dumbass people from asking dumbass questions.
Comprende?
With all due respect,
* fake is something that is not what it says on the tin, so this thread is a fake.
* joke is something you make on people so you can laugh. The "more astute" members took the p!ss on the "less astute", so this thread is a joke.
As I mentioned before, it just grabbed people's attention to thoroughly p*ss them off (yes I can search for my topics, but this p*ssed me off as well, because I've been waiting for a new ROM to fix a non-working Wi-Fi and push e-mail, and this fake & joke thread just cried wolf and didn't bring any relief).
The intended goal - which seems to be "to force people to use the search and read the wiki" - failed miserably: those who already play by the book were insulted by "forcing them to read" things they already know, those who did not -- did not even close get to the idea.
The technique used is akin to what the universally hated spammers use -- grab your attention with a headline, then inside you find the same old Viagra and Cialis, or pump-and-dump stocks.
Why not just put a sticky thread instead next time that will bring the rules clear & well to the point. And instead of playing "1337" when next novice asks the questions, just refer them quietly by a link to that thread.
Elitist approaches are moronic and despicable. The forum is not for just the "1337" ones, it's for everybody. Wake up, smell the coffee.

Because it doesn't work, and people are too lazy to read the info already provided, and post loads of pointless threads asking the same questions week after week.

Urm... no, it's a forum for developers that started to be used more and more by average joe who just wanted to flash his device with something better than the stock builds. Like myself, and many other seasoned users, but the difference is we at least try to understand, and will search for our own answers first.
It's goal has always been to be a place where developers could share knowledge, and develop great things.
It's fast reaching a point where the noise and chatter created by the n00bs is drowning out the useful posts though.
If you have taken offense to the general feeling on here, then by all means feel free to start your own forum for the purpose of helping the useless and clueless people who can't even follow simple instructions on how to enter the bootloader 10 times a week.

People are energy saving by default. They will try to find a shortcut. If you quietly respond with a link to wiki, this will give a message that they should search it. If you rant then search for them, you never get the message through.
It originally was a forum made by developers and for developers. But developers need quality advanced testers for their ROMs to be worthy. It's beyond the possibilities of one and even a small group of men to find most of the bugs. And not-so-advanced testers are needed, too, -- because they will find more ROM bugs, doing more stupid things the advanced testers would not even try...
As such, the "Average Joe" of various levels is needed by the developers, as much as Joe needs developers work results. It's a symbiosis here. So it's for everyone because the masters chose so. And so let's push aside the arrogant attitude here and help each other.
Cheers.

sigh.... Lame.
I have the universal because its good for busy people, I dont have time for 'examples' of irony or jokes, I come to this forum for new roms, everyone is a 'noob' at first no matter how 'l33t' they are at other areas of life, humour included. People who have been around the block should, by course, expect every tech forum to have its fair share of newbies asking dumb or obvious questions or posting in the wrong section, after all there 'noobs' and are still learning how things work in the forums choosen field (sometimes learning also how forums work). RTFM or the odd helpful but funny remark is fine and the done thing mostly, but creating a post which makes everyone open it with interest isn't something i personally find 'cool' or worth applauding, in fact i rarely comment on forums but this if left unchecked will bring the overall quality of the site down,as some users will decide if this kinda 'humour' recieves great praise to repeat it in ever more funny ways. Everytime i log on i see the post and think 'Ohh' then i realise 'oh' its our resident comedian and self appointed newbie educators 'funny' post....sigh... please lets stick to tech issues here no more trying to be the forum funny guy, its lame...
Its been said for and against on this. cant the mods just delete this cr*p thread now or retitle it joke or something

Dear Developer friends, fellow users and not so advanced users.
"Knowledge is humility"
The more you know, the more you understand how less we know of more..
Confusing
Well for linguists this is easy
for a mathematician maths is easy and likewise for computer users ....
Making it short
If the questions of novice users offend u, dont answer em.
Someone will
So relax
The novice the experienced user the developer the techie all are a requirement.. for a forum of this dimensions
Lets shake hands and keep it that a ways.
My statements are aimed at pleasing all and displeasing none.
Lets stand united in smaller teams of interest

I echo this, you really wont get any results if you search for 'the' etc..
Try universal..

am presently an IT Manager.
Well, there's your problem....
but seriously - have you tried google search: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=304582
Additionally, were you logged in? (as being logged out will cause the forum to redirect you to the "Advanced Search" page and it will ask for one of those "CAPTCHA" things...)
Either way, if you can't figure out searching on a forum - why do you believe that you can flash your PDA to a different version of WM and be able to fix the bugs that arise out of that?

sigh....

If you still don't *get it* I really think you should take a step back, and take another look at this thread.
It simply proves people are too stupid, and lazy to read what is right in front of them, the very reason the thread was started in the first place.
It's beyond irony.

Yes, some forum regulars needed the message too. I can think of 3 off the bat that are lazy, and ask the same questions every time there's a new ROM rather than just reading the thread.
I'm sure there are many more.
Basic crux of this is, you don't think it's funny or warranted, along with some others, yet some of us do.
Welcome to nature of opinions, enjoy your stay.

Please don't post things like this.
I have learning difficulties and have worked very hard for the last five years.
I find reading very confusing and can not understand things easily most of the time.
I have a serious problem concentrating and find I have to ask because I can't search for things.
It's hard to explain my problems so please don't make things impossible for me.

Personally if you put this in your sig and asked a 'noobie' type question, you would not get treated like an idiot by me.
The problem we have is people who are just lazy and want answers on a plate rather than involving them using a bit of sense and a search or just reading through a thread (often a thread is very long and some just can't be bothered to read or search so post stupid questions which compound the length!)

"Socrates" is correct in English, but in Russian Socrates is called "Socrat", which has implications with "sokraschat'" -- to shorten, reduce or abbreviate. I'm multilingual so I can make pun of certain things :)
Plus, "Sock-rat", doesn't that sound lovely? :)

If this thread were on a board I moderate, it'd be closed down by now. It's rude, uninformative, purposely deceiving and contains foul language. I understand the intention behind starting it, and indeed why the mods let it run and even sticky it - but I disagree completely. I'd like to petition for it to be deleted immediately.

I regularry read this forum to see the progress of the ROM's.
One thing I need to get of my chest here. I'm getting sick and tired loosing soo much time in reading these unneeded so called 'funny posts' like this one.
This is the forum were you have the most info, and sorry to say, but the arrogant tone I read lately is making this forum very bad and unprofessional at the moment.
Why are many of us, not having much experience, asking the same questions:
- First of all there are many ROm's. So we noobs are really confused.
- The forum in my opinion needs more sub items. There are soo many posts into one directory, you need hours to find something.
- Because of this yes we noobs do want to search, but I don't know why but this forum search engine compared to others seriously has problems.
- and last but not least: Many of us need the PDA/Phone daily as a working tool and have no time to just try out all these possible ROM's.
We are all geeks here wanting the latest and coolest stuff. So please use this forum to help each other, other then lowering this forum into two groups: the experienced and the unexperienced.

I'm "unexperienced" myself, so oops! This forum (What I use it for anyway) gives you a view of what can be done. I myself have to use my PDA daily, but the attraction of what these guys do is just to big to ignore. So try them all (The ROM's), untill you find one that works for you, try them over a weekend, whatever, life would be dull without threads like this!

Well U said more than I can but let me add my opinion on this site's search Engine and with PDA's tht I am having problems.
First of all I joined this site as a noob in ROM updating, at first it was like  ....what is this ROM thing and all. the reason was my first PDA was an ORBIT and some wanna be took it dor upgrading since I wasn't new in the software side of a phone, even though I am a qualified hardware technician. So this guy bricked my Orbit..and I luved this phone. Now my phone was completely dead. And he couldn't fix it (all of his great talks about updating magician's went down the drain).
So to make a long story short I googled around and came upon this site. Which I browsed for 4 days in and out. I was totally glued to my PC. I donated to Tom codon's hard work. Which was by his ROM's tht I managed to revive my Orbit. And I am totally in his dept. I donate to tom every time I use his new ROM's.
So secondly a friend of mine brought a locked O2 exec. been a coulple of months now and yet I can't seem to unlock the network. No matter what method I try.
So now I am looking for old rom's and ways to down grade the boot loader but I can't seem to get any where with the search engine and even most of the O2 exec's WM5 rom's tht was there couple of months back aren't available, even O2 Uk does not have these. Even fro this site I can't seem to find a solution.
even at this moment I came upon this thread with WM6 and no bugs, but where is the link, or is this another funny thread with no links
I have been reading through post's for hours and all I get is the same thing throughout..Even all in one sim unlocking for universal they claim tht works and even those who tried said it works but I am the only one tht doesn't seem the damn PDA unlocked.
And I am tired of reading through pages and pages of post's tht leads me to no where.
I do agree this forum has helped a lot of ppl and the guy's behind this are totally the best, but still useless thread's always waste our time. And we are working for living.
