I'm running Custel's Cingular 2.5 ROM on my 8525 and was looking for low-tech options to have as a backup in case the bluetooth headset goes (say... battery runs down). I ordered a wried adapter and wired headset from a company that claimed that they were for the 8525. They do fit into the mini-usb like plug on my 8525, but no audio comes out. When I try a phone call with the headset, the "Turn Hands-free on" option is greyed out.

Is there anything on the phone I need to set to engage them? Or a registry tweak, etc.? Or did the company selling these (cellphoneshop.net) misrepresent them?

Thanks!

Ill give you an example, I bought my father an i tunes razor phone for Christmas and it seemed to fit my 8525 but same thing happened. They didn't work. Just because it fits doesn't mean its compatible but It could just me.

yeah. seems that way. It was listed as:

Handsfree For Cingular 8525
This handsfree is compatible with Cingular 8525.

Funny that I thought it would actually then work on the phone :-(

I wouldn't feel bad for two reasons, they clearly state that it is compatible with your device and two, it was like $5. Lesson learned move on and maybe just pick up a cheap bluetooth for a back up.

Yeah, I guess so. I liked the idea of just stuffing the wired headset in my travel kit and then I'd have it as a backup should the headset go out. Anything bluetooth means keeping it charged.

I was hoping someone would say... "Just go to this setting and do this..." and I'd be in business ;-)!

I've seen the HTC headsets for the 8525, but had one of their's on my 8125 and hated it. The buds didn't fit my ears at all.
